This idea came to me and I just had to do it because I love Cofagrigus! :) Plus the idea of Buneary needing a ghost Pokémon to help with a fear of the dark just wouldn't quit bugging me. :)

Pokémon belongs to its respective owners. I only own Rachel.

A/N: This Rachel is a different one from my other stories. :)

Not A Scary Pokémon After All

Rachel placed Buneary in the bed that Trevenant had created for the little one, tucking her in. "There we go," the trainer said softly, smiling at the young one she and the elder tree Pokémon had rescued from an abusive trainer a few days ago. Having just started on her journey at the age of twelve, the young girl had a soft spot for young Pokémon and liked to work with them so that they could get stronger and evolve into their next forms.

The little rabbit Pokémon trembled a bit in fear. "I'm scared," she whimpered.

Thanks to her gift of telepathy, Rachel understood her. "It's okay," she said soothingly.

Trevenant came in and brushed a hand gently over Buneary's head, to which the young one leaned her head trustingly into his hand. "Don't be frightened, young one," he cooed soothingly to her.

Buneary blinked sleepily before closing her eyes, falling asleep. Rachel and Trevenant headed out of the room before closing the door, neither of them noticing a little ghost go into the room.

But moments later, they heard Buneary scream in terror and they rushed to the little rabbit's room, finding Dusknoir outside and he was holding Duskull by the scruff of the neck. "What happened?" Trevenant asked.

"I caught this one in Buneary's room," Dusknoir said, not looking happy.

Rachel went into the room and looked around, not finding Buneary. She came out and looked at Duskull. "Where's Buneary?" She asked in a firm voice.

The little ghost Pokémon looked down in shame before pointing to the window, which gave Rachel her answer. "Oh, no," she said in worry, about to run outside when Trevenant gently grabbed her shoulder.

"Wait, let me come with you," he said.

She nodded, grabbing a large flashlight and they headed outside, hoping to find the little rabbit soon as it was very dark out. "She's got to be so terrified, Trev," the young woman said.

"We'll find her," he said reassuringly.

Feeling better that her Pokémon had faith in her, Rachel began looking around, moving the flashlight carefully as she did. "Buneary!" She called out, her voice echoing as she listened carefully for the little one's cry.

Buneary was hopping as fast as she could, wanting to get far away from the Duskull that had popped up in her room. Tears fell down her face as she continued running before tripping on a tree root and falling down, but instead of falling down to the ground, she kept going. Screaming as she seemed to be falling down a tunnel, she tried to stop her fall, only to land on something soft and she suddenly heard something slam down as it grew dark quickly. Gasping, she reached up, only to find there was a lid of sorts over her and she tried to push it, but couldn't. Now really scared, she began crying harder, curling up in a tight ball, wishing her new master was there.

Her old master had mistreated her badly with making her sleep in a dark place and constantly having his Misdreavus scare Buneary. It had gotten so bad that in desperation, she had grabbed the Pokéball that had housed her and held it up when Misdreavus used Shadow Ball. The attack hit the Pokéball and shattered it into four pieces from how strong it was. Her master was shocked and Buneary took the chance, jumping out the open window and running fast before he could catch her again.

But now, she was stuck and she knew her current master didn't know where she was. Her tears soaked the already-wet fur around her face as she continued crying, not nothing that someone was watching her.

Cofagrigus woke up suddenly when he felt his lid slam down and he blinked, rather dazed before sighing, thinking he'd have to deal with another thief when he heard crying. Curious, he gazed inside himself and was surprised to see a Buneary bawling her eyes out as she looked very scared, curled up in a ball and shivering like she was cold. Blinking, he sighed and moved two hands inside the cavity, one hand resting gently on the smaller Pokémon's back and the other resting gently on her head. "Shh," he said soothingly. "Calm down, young one."

Hearing the ghostly voice, Buneary curled up tighter, but was curious as she felt a hand rubbing her back. "It's alright, little one," the voice said again. "You don't like the dark, do you?"

She shook her head and he sighed gently. "Hold on," he said, his lid opening before two of his hands lifted her out, the lid closing again as he gently set her down on his chest.

Buneary opened her eyes to see she was in a room lit by torches, which gave off a strong light thankfully. She felt relief before she looked down to see she was sitting on something.

Or rather, a Pokémon's chest.

Her eyes widened in fear as she looked up into the red eyes of Cofagrigus and let out a shriek that nearly shook the walls as she squirmed to escape. "Let me go!" She pleaded.

"Whoa! Whoa! Easy, little one," he said, two hands grasping her around the middle and holding her securely, not letting her escape, though she did try. "Calm down now. I'm not going to hurt you."

Buneary kept squirming. "M-Master! Help!" She cried out, sobbing harder as she couldn't get free. "Master!"

Cofagrigus focused, but didn't sense anyone. Sighing, he pulled the rabbit Pokemon into a hug. "Shh," he soothed. "Easy, little one. Calm down."

She trembled, no longer fighting to get away, but still terrified. "Oh, you poor thing," she heard him say before she felt something gently wipe away her tears and something else gently rubbed her ears, even her rolled-up ear. The gentle touches surprised her, but she began calming down. "There we go," Cofagrigus said with a smile. "I won't hurt you."

She sniffled and looked up at him with teary eyes, seeing him smile gently before he wiped away the last of her tears, one hand still gently rubbing her ears. Buneary looked at him in confusion. "Why are you...being so nice to me?" She asked. "You're a ghost Pokémon."

He smiled. "Let me guess, you've had some bad run-ins with ghost Pokémon, so you think all ghost Pokémon are bad, hmm?" He asked.

"Well...," she paused a moment. "My master's Trevenant and Dusknoir are okay, but...my old master...he made his Misdreavus chase after me, especially at night."

Cofagrigus was shocked. "How did you get away from him?" He asked.

"I grabbed my Pokéball and I held it up when Misdreavus launched a Shadow Ball and it destroyed the Pokéball."

The coffin Pokémon was impressed. "That was brave of you," he said. "Does your current master make her ghost Pokémon chase you?"

"No," Buneary said. "Trevenant is kind to me, as is Dusknoir. They and my master help me fall asleep at night."

"Sounds like a good trainer," Cofagrigus said. "But what are you doing out here, young one?"

She sniffled. "I saw a ghost come into my room and it scared me," she admitted. "I ran away."

He didn't blame her for running away. "Well, let's see about getting you home, but before we do that, there's something else that must be done," he said.

Buneary looked up at him. "What?" She asked.

Moments later, she was giggling as playful fingers wiggled into her feet as she was gently pinned to Cofagrigus' chest as he continued tickling her, one hand on her stomach, one hand at her feet, and one at her cute ears. "Well, well," he chuckled at hearing her giggles. "Cootchie, cootchie, coo."

That made the dam break and Buneary laughed as her feet and stomach were tickled all over and her ears were gently traced, the gentle fingers tickling like crazy as she tried to get away, but the arm holding her in place securely didn't let up. "Who's a cute little Buneary?" Cofagrigus cooed playfully.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" She laughed. "STOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOP!"

"In a little bit, young one," he said with a smile before grinning as he brought her up to his face and blew a big raspberry into her stomach, making her shriek with laughter and giggles. "Oh? Do raspberries make you squeal? You just love raspberries, don't you?"

Buneary laughed until her laughter went silent, to which Cofagrigus stopped the tickle torture, holding the small rabbit as she recovered. He then perked up as he heard something and smiled. "I believe I hear your master calling you," he said.

She perked up too and her face lit up as she heard Rachel's voice. "Master!" She called out happily.

Cofagrigus chuckled. "Hold on," he said, levitating and getting them out of the cave, landing before a young woman who yelped in surprise and the Trevenant with her quickly called up a Shadow Ball in defense, both relaxing at seeing Buneary in the coffin Pokémon's arms.

"Buneary!" Rachel said, going up to them.

"Master!" She said, jumping into the girl's arms.

"Are you okay?" The girl asked worriedly. "Dusknoir caught Duskull in your room."

Buneary nodded. "I'm okay," she said before pointing a paw to Cofagrigus. "He helped me. He's nice like Dusknoir and Trevenant."

Rachel looked at Cofagrigus, who was smiling. "She fell into my cave," he said. "I heard you calling for her."

She nodded. "Thank you for looking after her," she said in gratitude before Buneary hopped out of her arms and back over to Cofagrigus, hugging him. The coffin Pokémon chuckled and hugged her back.

"So long, little one," he said, gently rubbing her ears before turning away.

"Wait!" She said, making him turn back to her. She took his hand and turned to Rachel. "Master, can he stay with us?"

The girl smiled. "Well, if he wants to," she said while trying to keep her excitement within because she had been looking to add a Cofagrigus as one of her Pokémon partners.

He smiled as he knew what was going through her mind. "Buneary has told me good things about you and from the sounds of it, you are a good trainer, especially to have ghost Pokémon as your partners," he said.

"She's one of the best," Trevenant said proudly.

Dusknoir came out and he still had Duskull by the scruff of the neck. "Oh, there you are, little one," the larger ghost said in relief before looking at the smaller ghost in his hand. "I believe this little one has something to say to you."

Duskull looked ashamed as he faced Buneary. "I'm sorry," he said softly. "I didn't mean to scare you so badly."

Buneary, seeing he was really sorry, hugged him. "It's okay," she said forgivingly. "Just please knock before you come in again."

"Okay," he said.

Rachel smiled as seeing the two little ones make up before she saw Buneary yawn. "I think it's a little past someone's bedtime," she said gently.

Trevenant chuckled. "It's actually a good time for all of us to get some sleep," he said. "We've got that tournament tomorrow afternoon."

"That's right," Dusknoir said.

Cofagrigus perked up at the word 'tournament'. "Would you be willing to let me join you?" He asked.

Rachel smiled and pulled out a Pokéball. "Yes, if you want to," she said.

He nodded and reached out, gently slapping his palm against the button on the front of the ball, a bit surprised to see it was an Ultra Ball. Feeling himself beamed in, he settled down, to which Rachel smiled and pressed the button, opening it up to let him out and he smiled. "Buneary was right. You are a good trainer," he said.

Buneary giggled and went up to him, taking one of his hands. "Come on," she said before pausing as she let out a yawn.

Chuckling, Cofagrigus picked her up as they all headed inside, the small rabbit no longer afraid of Ghost Pokémon thanks to her new friend.

I just had to. And I'm hoping around Halloween, they'll have more Ghost Pokémon in Pokémon Go. I've only found Duskull, Haunter, and Gastly so far in the wild, but they've been few and far between right now. Hopefully they'll be popping up more in October. :)

Please leave a review, but no flames!
