This oneshot is based on the song and music video 'Mosh Ananeya' by Myriam Fares. It means 'not selfish', hence the name of this story! Check out the video and my Pinterest moodboard (username: Haunted Veela) for my inspiration and what my OC Claudia looks like. AU I guess, as my main story about this pairing does not involve any cheating!

Fred Weasley had received an owl, not an unusual occurrence, but it made Claudia Yassine Itani's heart sink. She had the strongest suspicion who it was from, and it wasn't Mrs Weasley.

He wasn't paying any attention as he was joking and bantering with George, Lee and one of the Ravenclaw boys on the table behind. The owl, a beautiful grey creature with long ears, was obviously getting bored, for it dropped the little letter into the cornflakes bowl and flew off.

Claudia looked up at Fred with sad eyes; he still hadn't noticed. Then her kohl-lined eyes dropped to the parchment. With quick, deft fingers, she pulled the parchment out of the bowl and put it on her lap. She looked around, but nobody had noticed. She was all alone in her feelings of melancholy.

He hadn't even noticed what she was wearing. It was Saturday, so everyone was wearing their own clothes, and she had dressed up specially, to see what reaction she could get out of him. Claudia wore the prettiest dress she owned, a slightly daring low-cut garment with an assortment of different floral and paisley prints.

But, Claudia thought as tears sprang to her eyes, it was almost a waste of time getting ready this morning. She might as well have put on joggers and a hoodie, with not a scrap of makeup.

"Claudia?" a voice asked timidly. Claudia looked up, blinking away tears; it was Hermione, smiling kindly. "Are you alright?"

Claudia nodded, smiling even though it pained her to do so. "Yeah, just had a bad night's sleep. That's all."

She kept the false smile on her face until Hermione turned back to Ron and Harry, then quickly turned over the parchment. The outer layer had a lilac ribbon across it and Fred written in untidy black handwriting. The other side only had a few sentences, but told Claudia everything she needed to know.

To my dearest Fred,

Hope you're still around tonight. I'll be there waiting.

Love, Pansy

X

Just as she looked up, her eyes locked with the girl causing her so much misery. Pansy Parkinson, with her black bobbed hair and bubble-gum pink pout, had stolen Fred's affections. He had one heart, and currently it was torn between two girls. And now, Claudia wanted him to pick just one of them.

Not one for confrontation, Claudia dropped her eyes and sighed. How could she face spending the day with Fred when she'd just read his private note? Knowing that he'd be running off to visit her at the end of the day. She pushed away her plate as the fried tomatoes, mushrooms and bread looked less appealing now.

For the whole day, she was like a zombie; going through the motions without feeling anything at all but numbness. She laughed when everyone else laughed, walked with everyone else and made mindless responses to the general chatter. Almost the whole time, Claudia kept watching Fred. He was louder and more exuberant than ever, and more attractive too. No wonder Pansy was so taken with him.

After dinner, he got up, stretching casually. Everyone looked up at him.

"I'm just off to the library. Bit of last minute work to do, you know," Fred said in a completely normal tone. Claudia marvelled inwardly at how well he could act, especially with the levels of deceit he was now reaching.

"Alright," Angelina said without even looking up from her dinner.

"We'll see you later, yeah?" Lee asked.

"Yep, I won't be too long. Bye, all. Goodbye, Claudia." Fred gave her a lingering glance before walking off with his hands in his pockets. Claudia's gaze followed him all the way out of the hall. With a quick scan of the Slytherin table, she concluded that Pansy had already left.

"Fred choosing to go to the library, eh?" Alicia said, pulling a daft expression of surprise. "What's happened to him?"

As they all laughed and speculated, Claudia said nothing. Words couldn't express how she felt or what she wanted to tell them all.

~~~(O.O)~~~
Fred sauntered through the corridors after climbing the stairs, all completely empty and silent at this time. A few of the portraits eyed him curiously but many were content to just ignore him. Not that he noticed. His mind was only on the sultry female he was about to encounter in the old classroom on the second floor.
Claudia wandered back slowly to the Gryffindor common room. She'd deliberately let the others walk ahead of her, pretending she needed to talk to one of her Ravenclaw friends. But she'd avoided them too, even though she could hear Cho and Padma calling through the din in the Great Hall.
With each step she took, she could feel her heart breaking into more and more pieces. The mere thought of Fred and Pansy together was agony. How could he do this? How could he split his heart in two and hand out the pieces, rather than giving his whole heart to just one person.
'To me,' the voice in her head said. 'Not her.' Was it selfish to hope it would be her that he chose? Claudia wasn't a selfish person.
He pushed the old oak door cautiously, but although it creaked, no teacher leapt out, ready to catch him. Fred poked his head round, expecting to find his new fling sprawled across one of the tables, or sat provocatively on the edge of the teachers desk, with her green tartan skirt riding up her thigh… But she was nowhere to be seen.
Fred entered tentatively, slowly. He'd been in here before, with another girl…
And suddenly, a different girl entered the mind's eyes of Fred: Claudia. His girlfriend of over a year; sweet, gentle, tiny Claudia, with her incredible mass of ginger hair and beautiful Lebanese looks. The aspiring dancer and singer who was always dressed so elegantly and was the most supportive person he'd ever met. They'd seemed so perfect for each other, so what made him stray?
She went to sit alone, unable to face the common room full of happy, cheerful students. Pushing open a door to what she knew was a common hiding place for upset students, or anyone who needed time alone, Claudia tiptoed down the curved steps and sat on the bottom one.
Why was one girl not enough for Fred? Yes, he was popular with the girls, and had had his fair share flirting and trying it on with him, but for Claudia, loyalty was the most important thing. If there was no trust, she had nothing.
'Why can't my relationship be like my parents'? Or my beloved grandparents' and great-grandparents'?' Claudia thought as the first tear spilled down her face.
His head was resting in his hands, his elbows on the mahogany desk, when she walked in. The gentle tap of her stiletto heels instantly alerted him to the fact it was her. Fred still didn't look up, as the confident footsteps drew closer and stopped. He could hear her soft breathing behind him; apart from that, there was silence.
A hand gently touched his shoulder and stayed there. Pansy's touch weakened him, though it took a few moments for him to compose himself before raising his head.
As if the weather was deliberately matching her mood, Claudia watched the first few drops of rain fall against the lattice window.
The lashings of rain became more frequent, as a few tears gave way to full on sobbing, and she crossed the room to stare out of the window into the darkness of the grounds at night. The thought of Fred entwined with Pansy in an embrace, relying emotionally on each other, was physically painful.
'I'm not selfish.'
"Ana mosh ananeya," Claudia said aloud. "Je ne suis pas égoïste. I'm not selfish."
But no matter how many languages she said it in, her confidence was still severely lacking. Fred's cheating had destroyed her emotionally.
He had to stop before they went too far; it was too risky in a classroom, when anyone could just wander in and catch them in a compromising position. They already were in a compromising position; Fred was sat on the edge of the desk with Pansy on his lap, her plump thighs wrapped around him. His hands were wandering, her eyes were teasing and all he could think of was the swell of her generous breasts beneath her cheap top.
'So different to Claudia.'
Claudia was lithe and thin, not a typical build for a belly dance, but she managed to make every movement look graceful. Everything about her was tiny, delicate and completely adorable. She stood several inches shorter than Pansy at 4ft 10".
Then Pansy grabbed his face roughly and kissed him hungrily, forcing him to forget his girlfriend and making him will himself not to take things to the next level.
Watching the rain fall against the window calmed Claudia in a strange way. She'd cried every tear, and now it was time to face everyone again. But first, she decided, she would go for a walk.
'You just want to find Fred, make sure he isn't-'
"No I'm not," Claudia said firmly aloud, then wondered if she was completely losing her mind.
She said nothing before she left, simply walked out the room, leaving Fred feeling empty and like something was missing. It was hard to believe that he lived for these moments, these stolen moments of passion with a girl so unlike his girlfriend…
Then she turned back, looked straight into his eyes and said one word before strutting back out. "Upstairs."
Fred lay his head in his hands again. He didn't know if he had it in him or not to take things any further, and that scared him. Not knowing the level of weakness he could lower himself to.
Claudia walked slowly around the castle, not caring if she was caught or not. She needed time to empty her mind, think of nothing but mindless things, so she could return to her friends and paint a fake expression on her face.
As she walked down a flight of stairs, her heart constricted in her throat. There, in front of her, coming up the stairs, was Pansy. Claudia kept walking slowly, and Pansy's gaze flickered towards her for only a moment before she chose to ignore her love rival. Claudia did the same; she would not grace the girl with a moment's attention.
But she couldn't resist peering behind her when she'd almost reached the bottom. Pansy's hips were swaying as she strutted along, thankfully not noticing Claudia staring up at her.
Continuing on with a heavy heart, Claudia turned right at the bottom of the stairs and walked across the room towards a corridor. To her immense surprise, there was someone wandering towards her; a tall, well-built figure who didn't look like a teacher.
Fred.
Claudia stopped and stared. Fred stopped too, looking slightly horrified for a moment before composing himself.
"Claudia-"
She turned on her heel and fled back up the stairs. How could she bear to face him, now she knew for a fact that he'd been with her? The common room was a no-go area; Claudia didn't want to burst into tears in front of them all. The only place she could go was that sad little room she'd just left.
~~~(O.O)~~~

Knock. Knock. Knock.

The heavy knocks on the door could only be one person. Claudia didn't turn around, not even when the door opened and Fred stepped in tentatively. She was staring, dry-eyed, out of the window again. It was still raining.

She told herself 'stay strong. Don't give in to him. He has wronged you, and this probably isn't the first time.'

But somehow, when he gazed at her with sorrow-filled chocolate brown eyes, Claudia found she couldn't turn him away. She just couldn't.

They ended up huddled together, with Claudia sat upright and Fred laying across the steps, his head close to her lap. She resisted the urge to rest his head on her legs and stroke his hair; he didn't deserve that level of affection. Not just yet.

"I'm sorr-"

"No." Claudia's voice was strong. "Listen to me, Fred, because I'm only going to say this once."

This shocked him, she could tell. Claudia was rarely sharp with anyone, especially not towards Fred. He sat up a little, his eyes fixed on her, waiting for her verdict.

"I want you to be mine only. I'm not content with sharing; I cannot cope with you dividing your heart between me and her. Neither of us are going to accept half of your love. I'm not selfish, Fred, and I can leave you and go if you choose her." She took a deep breath. "I want you to try and choose, however hard it may be, because you can't satisfy both of us and keep us both happy, especially with the lies you keep telling."

Fred nodded mutely, having taken in every word. He gazed at his girlfriend and was instantly able to make up his mind. Pansy may be good for a temporary thrill, but he didn't love her and certainly couldn't risk losing Claudia now, not now she'd spoken so frankly. He'd believed every word she'd said about leaving him and not being able to cope with him dividing his time and affection between her and Pansy.

What a fool he'd been.

They sat for a while; Fred wasn't sure how long. They didn't speak, for they didn't need to. A mutual understanding had come between them, and he felt her slowly relax as she realised it was her he wanted most. It would take a while for Claudia to heal from his betrayal, but he was so determined to make it work that he would do almost anything for her.

After a while, Fred extended his hand to her and helped her up. Together, with their hands loosely intwined, they walked back to their common room in a more comfortable silence.

"Fred? Fre-eed?"

Claudia stiffened immediately at the shrill noise, but Fred clutched her hand tighter in a reassuring gesture. They kept walking, even as the Slytherin strode up towards them, scarcely able to believe her eyes.

Claudia climbed through the portrait hole without giving Pansy a backwards glance, but Fred stopped right before it was his turn to climb in. Turning slowly, he looked Pansy straight in the eye. For the first time, Pansy looked unsure of herself.

"Fred?"

With a slight shake of his head, Fred turned back to step in after his girlfriend. He wanted to spend the night with her, and her alone.

Hope you enjoyed the oneshot! I'm not sure I'd be able to go back to a cheater, but the music video showed a (similar) happy ending and I wanted to give Fred another chance! If you enjoyed this, please check out my other work 'Just Too Perfect For My Hands To Hold'!
