Chapter 10: Fire In Our Hearts

Emma smiled as she watched her five-year-old daughter looking out the window, watching for her father to come back home. "Is it almost time, Mommy?" Lilly asked.

The young woman chuckled as she looked at the clock. "Almost, sweetie," she said before a cry sounded out. "Oh, and it sounds like your sister is awake. I'll go get her while you keep watching for Daddy."

Emma made her way down the hallway to a part of the house that had been renovated after she had discovered she was pregnant. Now, she entered the baby's room, smiling at the four-month-old baby in the crib before picking her up. "Shh," she soothed her daughter. "Mommy's here, Star."

The baby calmed down and opened her brown eyes. The mother smiled at her daughter and changed her diaper before taking her out to the kitchen, seeing Lilly was still watching for her father. "Daddy's going to be home soon," Emma said to her baby.

When she had learned that she was pregnant last year, she had been so thrilled that she had gone to Grillby's restaurant and told him and the fire elemental had had to sit down as shock hit him first before he let out a whoop that had startled many of the patrons as Emma laughed as Grillby had picked her up and spun her around. Sans had been surprised and chuckled.

"What's got you all fired up, Grillbz?" He asked.

The fire elemental grinned. "I'm going to be a father again," he said.

The skeleton had nearly fallen out of his seat as he looked at Emma. "For real? You're pregnant?" He asked.

She nodded and Sans grinned hugely. "Congratulations," he said. "How far along?"

"Three months," Emma said. "So we'll have our little one around Christmas time."

And she had been right. Little Star had been born two weeks before Christmas and it had been a wonderful Christmas. All the monsters and the children had accepted Star with open arms and were ecstatic to have a new little one in their lives.

The buzz of a new baby hadn't left the atmosphere in the following months and the monsters and humans who were for the monsters had been leaving gifts for the baby at Grillby's restaurant, gifts the parents were grateful for.

A happy squeal drew Emma from her musings, making her jump a little and hold Star more protectively before she saw her daughter jumping up and down happily, which made her smile as the little one quickly ran for the door. "Daddy's home!" She cried out in excitement.

Grillby, who had just unlocked the door, chuckled at hearing his oldest daughter's happy squeal and he opened the door with a smile. "There's my little candle," he said, scooping her up into his arms as he walked into the house.

Emma hugged him happily while laying her head on his shoulder. "I missed you, Daddy," she said.

He chuckled. "I was only gone for a little while," he said, playfully tickling her side, to which she giggled happily.

Grillby then looked up and smiled at seeing his lovely wife and their newest child in her arms. "My lovely flame," he said lovingly, going up to her and kissing her. She kissed him back before his gaze fell upon his youngest daughter. "Daddy's home, little one."

The baby opened her eyes and a big smile came to her face as she gave a happy coo and reached for her father. Setting Lilly down gently, Grillby accepted the baby from his wife, cradling Star in his arms and she snuggled against him, her eyes blinking sleepily. "Hmm, did someone skip their nap?" He asked teasingly.

Emma chuckled. "No, but it was a short nap," she said. "No doubt she was waiting for Daddy to come home."

The fire elemental chuckled. "How about I feed her?" He said, noticing a wonderful aroma in the air and knowing his wife was making dinner.

She smiled and got a bottle of goat's milk out of the fridge, handing it to her husband. Using his natural heat to warm the milk, Grillby saw his little daughter looking at the bottle with wide eyes. "Oh, now you're awake, huh?" He asked with a chuckle before giving her the bottle.

The baby settled down in his arms, happily drinking her milk while cooing. Lilly giggled. "She's happy to see you, Daddy," she said.

"And I'm happy to see my two little girls," he said with a smile. "Did you have a good day in school today, Lilly?"

She nodded. "That mean girl doesn't bother me anymore," she said. "A bigger boy came up and told her to back off."

"A boy?" Grillby asked in surprise.

Emma chuckled. "The sheriff's son," she clarified. "He didn't like that the girl was picking on Lilly, so he stood up to her."

The fire elemental smiled. "Perhaps you have a new friend, Lilly," he said.

"Yeah," she said with a giggle. "He's one of the nicer boys. The others are stinky."

Emma and Grillby chuckled at the five-year-old's words before the young woman turned back to the stove. "Emma, would you set the table, sweetie?" She asked.

"Yes, Mommy," the little one said, immediately doing so.

The fire elemental continued cradling his younger daughter as she drank her milk, the bottle nearly empty, he noticed. "Goodness, someone was hungry," he said with a chuckle, gently kissing his daughter's forehead. She snuggled against him and finished her milk, looking up at him as he set down the empty bottle and lifted her to his shoulder, gently patting her back. Moments later, Star let out a loud burp and rested her head on her father's shoulder. Smiling, he saw his wife was getting supper out of the oven. "Emma, our little one is ready for the dream star," he said to her. "I'll put her to bed."

"Okay, handsome," the young woman said. "Did she drink all her milk?"

"Yes, she did," he said, giving her the empty bottle. "She's growing fast."

"They do when they're little," she said, smiling as she remembered when Lilly was that little.

Carrying Star to her bedroom, Grillby smiled as he heard the baby coo. "Shh, it's alright, little one," he cooed before he began humming a lullaby. As he did so, he felt the baby lift her head up and rest it closer to his neck so that she could not only hear his humming, but feel the gentle vibrations from his voice too. Smiling, the fire elemental began rocking the baby too.

Within moments, little Star was sound asleep and Grillby placed her in her crib and gently covered her with her blanket. "Goodnight, my little one," he said, brushing a hand gently over his daughter's head and gently kissing her cheek. "Sweet dreams."

With that, he quietly left, closing the door softly before going out to the dining room, seeing his other daughter was trying to get into her booster seat, but was having some trouble. "Need a lift, pumpkin?" He asked.

She turned to him and nodded. "Please, Daddy?" She asked.

Smiling, he lifted her up and put her in her booster seat. "There we go," he said as Emma served them all supper and they soon sat down.

As they were eating, Grillby smiled and took his wife's hand. She smiled at him and squeezed his hand. "I never would have thought four years ago that I would have found a wife and be the father of two wonderful daughters," he said.

"I never would have thought I'd find a man that I could love and be safe with and who would be a good father to my daughter," the young woman said with a smile.

"Or I'd find a good Daddy," Lilly said. "And now I have a little sister."

"That's right, honey," Emma said with a smile.

Grillby smiled as they continued eating, finishing dinner and Emma got to work on the dishes while Grillby put the leftovers away. He then saw Lilly was nodding her head. "I think someone's ready for bed," he said with a chuckle, going over to pick up his daughter and carry her to her room. She snuggled into his hug before he put her to bed, tucking her in. "Sleep tight, my little candle."

"I will, Daddy," she said, giving him a daughterly kiss on the cheek. "I love you, Daddy."

"I love you too, little one," he said with a smile, kissing her forehead in affection. "I'll see you in the morning."

Lilly yawned and closed her eyes, snuggling down into the covers and falling asleep. Smiling, Grillby quietly headed out before finding his wife in the hallway and she beckoned him with a finger before turning to walk towards their room, swaying her hips side to side in a way that she knew her husband liked.

Seeing that, the fire elemental grinned. "Oh, yes," he said, quickly moving after his wife, who quietly giggled and slipped into their private bathroom, changing into something quickly before coming out, finding her husband waiting for her by the bed. She stepped out with one leg first, seeing Grillby's flames glow brighter. Giggling, she stepped out into view and his eyes widened. "Wow," he breathed softly.

Emma was wearing a two-piece dress, the top being a crop top and the bottom being a long, flowing skirt. Both were colored orange with splashes of white. Smiling as she saw his attention was on her, she began belly dancing for him.

Grillby smiled as he watched. After they had gotten married, she would sometimes belly dance for him just for fun and he loved it, especially that Emma wasn't forcing herself to dance that way for him. It was smooth and natural.

Going up to her now, he caught her as she twirled around and he leaned back. She followed his lead and it wasn't long before they were laying on the bed and cuddling. "Emma, my lovely flame," he said in her ear. "You are the fire of my heart."

Emma giggled and smiled up at him. "Grillby, my handsome fire elemental," she said. "You are the fire of my heart too."

Smiling, Grillby pulled Emma into a deep kiss, their minds only on each other throughout the whole wonderful, peaceful night.
