There are a lot of moments where you can't help but want to straight up murder your best friend. You wouldn't care if you went to juvie or jail for it. As he ignored Annabeth's laughter and tried to dry himself up because someone thought it would be a good idea to dump and entire bucket of freezing cold water on his head to wake him up, especially early on a December morning. Annabeth was incredibly lucky because her laugh made Percy's heart do the tango in his chest and so he let it go. She would've been six feet under by now had he not had this enormous crush on his best friend.

As Percy's luck would have it, this blonde goddess had a boyfriend. A tall blond with a scar running across his eyes that gave off an Anakin Skywalker vibe. On more than one occasion he had told Luke to "use the force" to grab a can of Coke from the vending machine to which he would get a punch on the shoulder and a "play nice" hissed from Annabeth.

Now, Annabeth. This wonderful, smart, witty girl was his best friend and Percy had a massive crush on her. But he didn't want to hurt her relationship with Luke and so said nothing. She had these intimidating grey eyes and, for the better part of elementary school, seemed unapproachable. That is, until she walked up to him one day in the fourth grade and said "Hi. I'm Annabeth Chase and I'm your new neighbour. I've seen you around school and I think you'd be a great friend." Thus, the friendship of Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase was born.

Whenever he brought this up with Piper, she would give him this exasperated look, pinch him and say "Just fucking tell her man, you're the captain of the fucking swim team, with two state trophies under your belt and another one well one the way. What've you got to lose?" Grover would support her sentence by rolling his eyes at him and pleading with him to "Grow a pair and ask her dude, you're almost an adult you can deal with feelings." But Percy in retaliation would snap at them, "I don't know if you two noticed, but she has a blond boyfriend-Blond, Piper that's your type as well, shut up and listen to me- If she does have a type, I'm clearly not it." At this Piper would sigh "I'm done Percy, I'm fucking done."

Anyway, it was just because Percy was so in love with her that he didn't kill her. "Annabeth what the absolute fuck dude, it's winter, there are better ways to wake me up than to give me hypothermia yeah?"

Annabeth laughed at him, "We're going to be late Percy, or did you forget?" In response to Percy's groan she ripped the blanket from his grasp, leading to a scream echoing throughout the house. Upon hearing this, Sally came running into the room, with a worried look on her face. When she saw who was there inside the room, she breathed a sigh of relief "Oh, thank god you're here Annabeth, he's been asleep since 6 in the evening yesterday."

As Percy let out an exclamation of protest at the sight of the two of them ganging up against him, Annabeth scowled at him. "Get your ass in the bathroom, Percy or I'll drag you." As he stomped away, Sally yelled after him," You're cleaning your room the moment you get back, Percy or so help me god, I will ground you for a month!"

So yeah, Percy had a cold start to the day. At least he got to see Annabeth and that was something. Dear Lord, you're more gone for her than I thought, said a voice sounding suspiciously like Piper's, in his minutes later, he stepped out of the bathroom, ready to drive Annabeth to school, but not entirely too happy about having to clean his room when he got back.

He saw Annabeth supressing a smile and glared at her some more. "Seriously was there no other way to wake me up, like I love the water and all but dear lord, I didn't need it."

"Well at least you did get up immediately didn't you? And you are wide awake now, and since you love the water so much, I thought you'd appreciate it."

"Why are we friends again?"

"Beats me."

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you, my best friend."

"Articulate."

"Oh, fuck off, will you?"

"Who'd scream your name at tournaments then?"

"I have plenty of friends, Beth."

"Love you too."

Bickering good-naturedly, they walked to Percy's car. As Annabeth got in, she pursed her lips and quietly muttered, "Luke hasn't texted me since yesterday evening."

Percy froze and as she motioned for him to continue driving, he waited for her to resume talking.

"I mean he always texts me before going to bed and after waking up, so I can't help but feel like something is off and that he's not texting me for a reason. And I know that he might be busy with college 'cause he was always complaining to me about how college is a pain in the ass and how much work he has, but he never fails to text me, Percy, never."

Percy wet his lips and cleared his throat. He couldn't help but feel jealous of Luke. Look, he loved that Annabeth was extremely happy with Luke. God knows she needed the happiness with the problems at her house with her family. But he knew that he could make Annabeth just as happy as Luke did, if not more so.

"Aren't you guys going on a date tonight?", asked Percy.

"We are, but I can't help but think…"

"Think what Annabeth? That he's cheating on you? C'mon Beth the two of you are so in love it's like watching Romeo and Juliet in the flesh."

"Um Percy, both of them ended up dead."

"Besides the point, dude, like he's been loyal for two years and he loves you." Just like I do. "What's to say that he would break your trust so suddenly?"

Annabeth sighed. "You're right. I'll wait till tonight. Maybe he has a surprise planned for me, who knows?"

Now, Percy had a hard time trying to pretend that this conversation was not driving a stake through his heart. But he wanted Annabeth to worry about him like that and not Luke. Oh, who was he kidding? He could rant about this all day long, but the truth was that Annabeth would never look at him like that and he was stuck in the friendzone.

So that's all for now. Stay safe and healthy and I will see you all next time!

Bye!
