Tanya and Rosie boarded the ferry to Kalokari, "you doing alright Tanya?" Rosie asked.
"Yeah, I think I'm okay," Rosie held on tightly as she led Tanya to a seat.
"You feel nauseous at all?"
"Not yet, but I am dizzy. My back hurts too," Rosie helped Tanya to sit before taking a seat next to her.
"You really need to tell your family what's going on."
"I know, but this isn't something you tell someone over the phone. I will tell Sky after the wedding."
"What about Harry?"
"I'll tell him before we leave."
The women got situated in Donna's jeep after greeting one another. "I can't believe you screamed because of a dead fish?" Rosie scolded her friend.
"I screamed because it startled me," Tanya replied, "Plus I'm a bit on edge."
"You mean because your estranged son is getting married and your estranged husband will be there?"
"Yeah, something like that," Tanya glared at Rosie. "Donna! Stop!" Tanya yelled in the car before jumping out and vomiting.
"Shit!" Rosie yelled.
"Tanya, you should have stayed home," Donna told her friend.
Rosie and Donna helped Tanya back into the jeep, "my son hasn't spoken to me in years," Tanya rasped, "he invited me to his wedding. I had to come or risk losing him forever."
"He would have understood if you had just been honest with him and told him," Rosie said.
"Well, don't overdo it," Donna warned.
When Donna pulled up, Sky came out to help with the luggage, "Rosie!" Sky ran to hug the woman. He then turned his attention to Tanya, "mum?" Sky noticed his mother was pale and shaky. He held out a hand for her to help her out of the jeep. Tanya lost her balance, but Sky caught her, "whoa! You okay?"
"Yes," Tanya's voice was still raspy, "thank you."
As everyone made their way up the steps, Tanya began to feel exhausted and weak. She stopped and leaned against the stone wall. They reached the top and Sky noticed someone was missing, "where's my mum?" he asked. Everyone looked around and realized Tanya wasn't with them. Sky went back down the steps and found his mother halfway down, sitting on the ground with her knees pulled to her chest and her head down. "Mum," Sky noticed how slowly his mother raised her head. He crouched down before her, "Hey, what's wrong?"
Tanya didn't think this was the time to tell her son what was really going on, "nothing, I just was so nervous about seeing you again and I didn't eat."
"I was pretty shocked to see you too."
"Didn't you invite me?"
"No, but Sophie must have."
"Now I'm embarrassed. I can stay away if you want."
Sky stood and reached out both of his hands, "here I'll help you up and we'll find you something to eat." Tanya was surprised but grateful. Once Sky had pulled Tanya to her feet, he realized how weak she was. He knew she was keeping something from him, but if it was health-related then she probably kept it a secret for a reason. "Hold onto me and if you feel you can't make it tell me. I'll carry you if you need me to."
"Thank you," Tanya whispered.
Tanya was beat by the time she and Sky reached the top. Sky helped his mother to sit and Rosie sat next to Tanya to hold her up. Rosie and Donna were the only ones who knew the truth, along with their husbands. Donna got Rosie and Tanya settled before leaving so Tanya could rest. Rosie decided to stay in a room with Tanya because of her condition. Bill stayed on his boat for the time being because he understood.
"If I recall correctly, that's how you looked the first time I saw you," Tanya turned to find her estranged husband behind her.
"Harry," Tanya said softly before getting off the stool. Tanya stumbled and nearly fell to her knees, but Harry caught her, "thank you."
"How much have you had to drink?" Harry joked.
"Nothing, taste it," Harry did and sure enough there was no alcohol in the drink. "Can you help me back to my room please?"
"Sure," Harry wrapped an arm around his wife and helped her to slowly make her way to the room she was sharing with Rosie. "Would you like to sit down or lay down?"
"Bed, please," Harry helped her settle in bed before sitting on the edge next to her and taking her hand.
"What's going on Tanya?"
Tanya began to cry, "oh, Harry, I don't know if I can tell you."
"You can tell me anything."
Tanya took a deep breath, "I'm dying Harry."
Harry had a look of shock on his face, "what?"
"I have Leukemia and I'm dying."
"Did they not catch it in time?"
"They did, but I only did enough treatment to get me here. I won't be having anymore."
"Why the hell not?"
"What do I have to live for?"
"What about our children?"
"Sky doesn't want anything to do with me. Sophie invited me without telling him. I could tell by the look on his face when he saw me. Plus he told me. I don't have a clue where any of our other children are. I tried to contact them so I could tell them, but nothing."
"Does Sky know?"
"No, and I don't want him to. At least not until after the wedding."
"What about me?"
"You left me. What about you?"
"Tanya, I was kind of hoping when I heard you were here that maybe, just maybe, we could try again. I was wrong and I've missed you so much." Harry softly kissed Tanya's hand.
"I've missed you too," Tanya began to cry.
"I made a mistake. I thought I was gay, but I'm not. I haven't been able to get you out of my mind for three years. I should have called you, but I was afraid you had moved on."
"I'll never move one from you," Tanya started coughing as a result of her dry throat. Harry got Tanya a glass of water. He noticed her shaking hands as she held the glass.
"Is there anything else I can get you?" Harry tucked a strand of hair behind Tanya's ear.
"Actually, in my luggage, there's a cane, could you set it against the nightstand for me please?"
"Sure," Harry did as Tanya had asked, "you should get some rest. Here, I'll help you get under the covers." Once Tanya was tucked in and asleep, Harry waited for Rosie to return. He watched his wife sleep and her breathing. All he could think of was that he may have wasted the last three years of her life away from her.
"Harry?" Rosie walked into her room with Donna.
"Hey," Harry wiped the tears from his eyes.
"She told you didn't she?" Donna asked.
"Yeah, she almost fell when she got off the stool to greet me and needed my help getting back. I hope she changes her mind about treatment."
"Us too," Rosie said.
"Well, I'll leave you to it. If you or Tanya need anything don't hesitate to ask." Harry walked out feeling like he had been punched in the stomach. The love of his life was dying and he had to find a way to change her mind so she would fight. He knew how but had made a promise to Tanya. If he wanted her to fight to live then he may have to break that promise
