Donna screamed the moment she saw Sophie. She ran to hug her daughter and Sky, "I'm so glad you're home. Did you both have fun?"
"We had a blast and saw so many amazing places," Sophie said.
"It was really great to get away from responsibilities and have some fun. Well some fun for a really long time," Sky said.
"That's wonderful," Donna smiled, "I remember when I decided to travel. It led me here, but I loved everywhere I went. This place just happened to be my favorite."
"So Donna, where are my parents?" Sky asked.
Donna's face fell, "they're on the mainland. Honey, your mom got really sick and had to be hospitalized. They are trying to find her a bone marrow donor."
"Wait, so if they can't find a donor, that's it?"
"I'm so sorry," Donna told him.
"I have to get to the mainland."
Bill took Sky to the mainland so he could get to his mother.
"Sky," Tanya's voice was barely a whisper.
"Mum," Sky hugged and kissed his mother as she lay in bed. "Donna told me everything. How are you?"
"I'm alright, but I am tired. I just want to go home," Tanya whispered.
"Well, you really need to stay so that you can get the help you need," Sky gently told his mother.
"That's what I said," Harry added.
"I know, but I don't have to like it. In fact, I really hate it," Tanya griped.
"Evening Mrs. Bright, how are you feeling?" Tanya's doctor said as he entered the room.
"Tired," Tanya whispered.
"Doctor this is our son Sky," Harry introduced the two.
"Are you here to get tested to be your mother's donor?" the doctor asked.
"No, absolutely not," Tanya argued. "It's not my son's job to save my life when I was so reckless with it. I won't let him do it."
Harry gave the doctor a look that he often gave to signal that he would talk to his wife or figure out a solution. After Tanya fell asleep, Harry and Sky started talking.
"I want to get tested," Sky whispered.
"That's your decision. Not the doctors, not mine, and not even your mothers," Harry smiled and winked at his son.
Sky was tested without his mother's knowledge and was a match. "Mrs. Bright, we have found you a donor," the doctor said as he entered the room. "We will be able to do the transplant later in the week or next week."
"Really?" Tanya barely got that out.
"Yep, I'll have a nurse come in with all of the paperwork. Your husband can probably complete it for you. We will need to do conditioning beforehand, and make sure the cancer is gone. We're going to give you a higher dose of chemotherapy to accomplish that."
"Can I go home?"
"I don't recommend it and in fact, I think it is too dangerous. Your husband can stay with you, but you really should stay here. There's very little help for you on the island. Once I release you, I can send a copy of your file with you. You can take it with you to the hospital on Kalokari and they can do all the tests that we would be doing here. I'll make sure to provide them with all the information they will need."
"Thank you, doctor," Harry said as the man left.
Over the next two weeks, Tanya felt even worse from the new chemo dose. She had lost her hair and any fat or muscle she once had.
"Harry," Tanya rasped, "I don't know if I can do this much longer."
"I know darling, but I bet you will be done with it pretty soon."
Sky, Sophie, Donna, and Rosie started staying on the mainland. Sam and Bill took care of things at the hotel. They all hated to see Tanya like this, especially Sky and Harry.
Harry and Tanya had four children in addition to Sky. They had another son, Flynn who was the oldest at 22. They also had three daughters, Daphne who was 20, Eloise who was 19, and Aurora who was 18. Sky called his siblings to tell them about their mother.
"Okay, I have to warn you all, mum looks really bad. She's frail and looks like a skeleton, and she's lost her hair. She's very self-conscious about that, but she wears a scarf most of the time," Sky told his siblings before entering their mother's room. "I'll go in first and make sure she's awake." Sky walked in and saw his mother in her bed, awake, and the bed angled to help her sit up. "Hey, mum," Sky walked over to kiss his mother on the cheek. "Are you up for some visitors because there are a few people who would like to see you."
Tanya looked absolutely exhausted, "sure," she said quietly. Everyone had started standing more closely to Tanya so that they could hear her because she didn't have much of a voice from being exhausted and vomiting so much. Sky walked over to the door, opened it, and waved his siblings in. "Oh my God," Tanya whispered as she began to tear up. All of her children went and hugged their mother. Each one just as shocked as the others by how ill she looked. "What are you all doing here?"
"Seriously?" Eloise asked.
"Mum, Sky called and told us everything. We are here to see you and help you get through this," Daphne said.
"I've missed you all so much, and I'm sorry."
"Why are you sorry?" Flynn asked.
"I wasn't a very good mother, and I lost you because of that."
"Mum, you were a great mother. We were selfish and honestly, we don't even know why we haven't been in touch," Aurora added.
Tanya was becoming more uncomfortable, physically. He back constantly hurt from her cancer and she would get sore from being in bed so much. In fact, she was sore no matter what position she was in. "Tanya, you okay?" Harry asked.
"My back," Tanya winced and tried not to cry.
"Do you want to get out of bed?" Harry took his wife's hand. Tanya nodded and Harry lowered the bed and the railing, "let me know when you're ready." Tanya nodded and Harry lifted his wife, placing her in the recliner next to her bed. He took one of the blankets to cover her up with. Tanya couldn't really retain any body heat.
"Thank you," Tanya whispered.
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. It opened and revealed Tanya's doctor, "Mrs. Bright, we got it all."
"What?" Tanya was speechless.
"Your cancer is gone and so we will be doing the transplant tomorrow."
Tanya began to cry and Harry sat in a chair next to hers to hold her hand and kiss her cheek. After explaining everything Tanya needed to know before the transplant, the doctor left so that the Bright family could have some time alone. Tanya would remain in the hospital for at least a few weeks and all visitors would have to scrub up to enter her room. Harry couldn't stay in her room with her anymore after the transplant.
Once the transplant was over, Harry scrubbed up and went into his wife's room. "Hey, how do you feel?"
"Tired," Tanya answered.
"Go to sleep and I'll stay here with you."
Tanya slept a lot the first two days and stayed for three weeks before finally being discharged. Bill had brought his boat to retrieve the Brights. Harry and Tanya's children were already on Kalokari, and Tanya still didn't know the identity of her donor. Tanya was relieved to finally be home. She was still quite weak, but she could use her walker now.
"Careful darling," Harry said as he helped his wife into their home. "Bedroom or living room?"
"Living room," Harry helped get Tanya settled on the couch. He went to get his wife some water, her phone, and her walker.
"Do you need anything else love?"
"For you to sit with me," Harry sat on the couch next to his wife taking her into his arms. "You are the most wonderful husband."
"You are an even more wonderful wife," Harry kissed his wife's temple. The couple heard a knock at the door, "come in!" Harry yelled from the couch and all five Bright children walked in. They ran to welcome their mother home and took seats in the living room.
"How long are you all staying?" Tanya asked her children.
"You mean today or in general?" Daphne asked.
"Well, both I guess," Tanya chuckled.
"We'll stay today until you turn in for the night unless you need or want us to leave sooner," Flynn said.
"We don't have any plans to leave anytime soon," Eloise stated.
"Yeah, we said we'd help get you through this and last I checked, you still aren't through this yet," Aurora added.
"I just don't want you all putting your lives on hold for me," Tanya said.
"Don't worry about us because we're all fine," Sky told his mother.
