Every day, Harry would drive Tanya to the local hospital for a check-up and to test her levels. Her levels had started to slightly go up but weren't nearly where they needed to be yet. There was still time for Tanya's body to accept the bone marrow. Tanya was grateful her children stayed on the island. She really enjoyed having this time with them, but she also needed more help than she thought she would. Harry would have worn himself out taking care of her. It had been two and a half months since the transplant, and Tanya was becoming stronger. She still needed her walker because her leg muscles weren't strong enough yet.
On this day, Harry decided to take his wife to the hotel to hang out with Rosie and Donna. Harry helped Tanya into the jeep, "Darling, what should I bring?"
"The wheelchair, just in case I get tired," Harry collapsed the chair and sat it in the back. Once they arrived at the hotel, Harry set up the chair and then helped his wife into it. He wheeled her to the hotel's outdoor cafe where her best friends were.
"You know considering you have wheels," Rosie said pointing to the chair, "you'd think you would have arrived sooner."
"Very funny," Tanya remarked. Harry went to help Sam and Bill while Tanya stayed with Donna and Rosie.
"Mom," Sophie yelled as she came over with Daphne, Aurora, and Eloise, "we're going to the beach. Do you guys want to come?"
"You know I really need to tell my daughters to get over here. I mean it's just not fair," Rosie said.
"You really want to get into mother-daughter relationships?" Donna asked as she and Tanya glared at Rosie.
"No, I was just thinking out loud."
"Girls, go on ahead and we might join you later," Donna said. Once the girls were gone Donna turned to Tanya, "do you want to go to the beach?"
"I'm sure it's crowded and it would be a pain to go with my chair. Plus it's hard to watch everyone have fun while you sit on the sidelines. You two can go if you want," Tanya said.
"I have no desire to put on a swimsuit or go look at young perfect female bodies," Rosie said.
"Ditto," Donna agreed.
"You guys are the best," Tanya smiled knowing they said all that for her benefit. "Rosie, call your daughters and tell them to get their asses over here."
"Should I call my son too?"
"Sure," Tanya said, "Donna you too."
"What are you trying to get all of our kids over here for? This is supposed to be a peaceful island."
"Because life is too short," Tanya guilted her friends.
"Since we're hanging out, I'm just going to send them texts," Rosie said.
"Same," Donna agreed.
"I should call Harry," Tanya said.
"Why? What's wrong?" Donna panicked.
"Nothing, calm down. I just need to take a nap and I need him to take me home."
"You do realize we're at a hotel right?" Donna asked.
"Do you have a vacant room on the first floor?"
"Let me go check," Donna got up, "Rosie stay here."
"Where the hell else would I go?" Rosie yelled.
Donna found a room on the ground floor and took it's key. She made a note in the book and returned to her friends. "Got a key, let's go," Donna unlocked her friend's chair and pushed her towards the room. "Do you need us to help you get into bed?"
"Probably," Tanya said as they entered the room. Donna pushed the chair close to the bed. Rosie pulled down the covers and Donna went to help Tanya, "you both may have to each take an arm. I'm pretty tired." Rosie and Donna each took a side and helped Tanya to her feet. Once she felt okay to move, they help her move to lay down in the bed. Donna covered her up and joined Rosie on the other bed. Donna had texted Harry to let him know where they were so he wouldn't worry.
"Donna, my children have all told me they're coming here," Rosie whispered.
"My sons did too. You know I don't think we have to whisper. I mean she's out."
"Why don't you want your sons coming here?"
"It's not that I don't want them to visit because I do. It's just that one of my sons is dating one of Tanya's daughters."
"Let me guess, she doesn't know."
"Bingo! And I was hoping her daughter would tell her but she hasn't."
"Does your son know that Tanya doesn't know?"
"Yeah, but guess who does know."
"How does Harry know and not Tanya?"
"Well, the kids haven't really included Tanya in their lives over the past three years. It's not right, but it's what happened."
"So Tanya will be the last to know."
"Bill doesn't know."
"He will when I tell him tonight." Donna glared at Rosie, "glare all you want, but I'm telling him. Oh, this isn't the son who's dating my daughter is it?"
"No, it's the other one," Donna laughed.
Tanya slept for two hours but woke up still tired. "Should we get Harry?" Donna asked.
"No, can you just help me kind of shift from the bed to the chair?"
"Sure," Rosie said. It was difficult but they managed to transfer Tanya.
"How am I still exhausted after a two-hour nap?"
"Your body has been through more than a two-hour nap can fix," Donna said.
"Donna's right," Rosie said, "give your body some more time." Donna left Rosie and Tanya at the table they sat at before while she returned the key.
"Mum," Tanya turned to find Sky coming towards her. He bent down to kiss her cheek, "dad asked me to take you home if you wanted to go. I guess Bill and Sam really need him to help them with some finance things."
"I actually would like to go home," Tanya said. "You can just wheel me to the house. It's not that far and that way your dad isn't without a car." Sky started to wheel his mother towards her home. He helped his mother to her feet, and she held onto her son for dear life.
"You okay? You're pretty shakey."
"It's because I'm tired. I think," Sky held on tightly to his mother as they made their way to the door. "I'm sorry I'm moving so slowly," Tanya said.
"Don't apologize for something you can't control," Sky told her as they reached the door. Sky unlocked the door and helped his mother inside and to the kitchen chair. He went back to retrieve her wheelchair. The doorway wasn't really wide enough to fit the chair through unless it was collapsed. Sky helped his mother back into her chair, "bedroom?"
"Please," Sky wheeled his mother to her bedroom. "Sweetheart, I was wondering if you could push me to the bathroom?"
Sky could tell his mother felt bad, "of course," Tanya was surprised when Sky not only stayed with her but even helped her. "Would you like to change?"
"Your father can help me later."
"I don't mind," Tanya nodded and Sky retrieved her pajamas from earlier that were on the bed. He didn't react out loud, but he was devastated by the state his mother's body was in. "You all settled and comfortable?" Sky asked once Tanya was in bed.
"Yes, thank you," Tanya began to cough and Sky ran to get a glass of water. He handed it to his mother but had to hold her hand to steady it. "Thank you, my throat was dry."
"It's no problem. Do you want me to take your wig off?"
"Yeah, I have a scarf next to my bed I think. Can you help me with it?"
"Sure," Sky took his mother's wig and put it back on the styrofoam head. He took her scarf and tied it around her head. Sky stayed with his mother while she slept and waited for his father to return. Tanya stayed in bed the next day, and only left to go to her doctor's appointment or the bathroom. The same thing happened the next day. The hospital said that everything looked great and her numbers were up. Most likely it's her body adjusting to the new bone marrow or overexertion because she was still so frail.
