Kaito once again places me on his fluffy head. He puts his hands in his pockets and walks to the pet store. He has such good balance, but I wonder why he can't skate...
The bells on the pet store jingle when Kaito opens the door. We are greeted by a variety of supplies for cats, dogs, aquatic creatures, etc. Kaito walks down the cat aisle and heads towards the beautiful set of collars and tags. Kaito picks out a black collar with a bell attached to it. When he's about to tie it onto me, I swat it away with my tiny white paw.
"meow. (No) meow. (Looks ugly) meow. (too noisy)."
"Shiro should be called picky kitty instead. First the milk, now the collar. Fine, you pick." Kaito holds me up so I can reach. I point my paws to an aqua blue one with black clover designs on it. Although 'Kuroba' doesn't mean clover, it sounds like clover. I also choose a silver circle tag for writing the address so I can go back to Kaito even if I'm lost. Kaito then picks a blue bowl for me.
"Seems like you like the color blue. Am I right?"
"meow (yup!)"
Kaito pays at the cashier and pushes the door open to go home. His head is just so fluffy and warm. I can't get enough of the smell of his shampoo. I sound like a pervert right now. But I have to admit, I am one when it comes to Kaito.
Surprisingly, he did not head home yet. He enters the supermarket. A cool breeze from the air conditioner hits me when we walked in. A question hits me at the same time. Are cats allowed in supermarkets? When no one seems to care about my appearance in the supermarket, I made a safe assumption that pets are allowed in this supermarket.
"So, what do you want for lunch, picky kitty?" Kaito questions.
What's the point of asking when you don't understand my meows? Even so, I still answer him, "meow! (pork ribs)" and I lick my lips. Can't wait to taste Kaito's cooking. HE'S THE PERFECT HUSBAND!
"I hope that doesn't mean fish..."
No, it means pork ribs. Kaito seems really nervous about me having fish for lunch. I point to the fish aisle and crosses my little arms forming an X, meaning no.
Again, Kaito is surprised. I wonder where his poker face went all this time.
"You are one smart and picky kitty"
"meow! (yup)"
Kaito's nervousness went away as he starts picking out snacks, sliced bread, lettuce, tomato, eggs, and ham. Sandwich? I also pointed out some of my favorite snacks when we were shopping in the snack aisle. Kaito paid and we are on our way home.
Kaito suddenly interrupts the peaceful silence between us, "I won't be home tonight. I have a job to do. Shiro can stay home."
I meow in objection.
"Shiro want to come along?"
"meow! (yes!) meow? (Is that okay?)"
Kaito pauses for a moment. "Shiro, do you know why I named you Shiro?"
"meow? (no, why?)"
"Because you are untainted by the crimes. I don't want to drag you into this. It's dangerous."
"meeeeow (But "Kuro" and "Shiro" are meant to be together. There is white because there is black)" I'm here because there is you.
When we arrive home, we ate lunch in silence. I understand you don't want me to get hurt but I don't want you to get hurt either. Side note, Kaito's sandwich is really good. Kaito cleans up the dishes when we are done. He comes over to me when he's done and puts me onto the dinner table. He sits down in the chair and comes face to face with me.
"Shiro, don't look so down."
I look away and meows. I know exactly what's going to happen in Kaito's heists. I just want to be there for him in times of danger. I know I can't do much but there are advantages to being a cat.
"Man, Shiro, cheer up!" Kaito says with a big smile as he makes a tiny mouse plush appear in his hands.
I suddenly see the downside to this drug. A downside worse than being not able to reach things and eat the things I want. Kaito will never see me as a human. Forget about being his lover. There would only be owner and pet relationship between us. This atmosphere is going downhill, fast. I don't even know when he got hold of that mouse toy.
Noticing my frown Kaito makes the collar I chose appear in his hands, "Now we loop the tag through the collar and huala! Shiro's collar!"
Seeing how my frown did not go away, Kaito scratches his head, "Aww. come on. Are you sure you want to come with me? You don't even know what's this job I'm talking about."
"meow (But I just want to go)" I say with a pout.
"You are one persistent, smart, picky kitty," Kaito says with a sweat drop.
"Fine. I guess you can come along then. But do not tell this to your kitten friends" he warns with his index finger doing the no.
He's treating me like a newborn baby now. Not to do this, not to do that. Sigh.
"meow (okay...)"
After talking to me, Kaito brings down his laptop to do research while I sit next to his laptop on the dinner table. Kaito seems to be researching about the Imperial Easter Egg from Russia. It is a gift from the Russian king to the queen to honor Easter. It was created by a gem-craftsman, Faberge... My eyelids start to grow heavy so I curl up into a ball, hug my tail, and fall asleep. There goes the perfect sleeping pill, history.
