"Shiro, when would you listen to what I say and stay in the hotel room? You just had to come out. Do you know that there's a serial killer out there?" Says Kaito in a stern voice when we are a safe distance away from Ran's place.
"Meow... (I know that there is a serial killer and I even know who it is...) Meeeeeooooww (Furthermore, she kills people, not cats...)"
"Anyways, you are not allowed to follow me anywhere!"
"MEOW! (YOUV'E GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!)"
I CAN'T LIVE A SECOND WITHOUT YOU! FOR MY PASSION CAN BURN ME! I'LL MISS YOU SO MUCH THAT I CAN DIE ON THE SPOT!
"Meow. (Wait.) MEEEOOOOWWWW! (DOES THAT MEAN THAT I CAN'T FOLLOW YOU HOME EITHER!)"
NO THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING! I'M GOING TO BE ABANDONED! I CAN'T LET THIS HAPPEN!
I dig my claws into Kaito's hair, tightening my grip.
"OUCH! Shiro!" Kaito lifts me up by the back of my head and drops me on the floor. He picks up his pace and walks ahead...
*Back at the hotel room*
Kaito has not said a word since I scratched his head. He didn't even turn his head to face me once since he dropped me onto the ground and made me follow him on foot.
Is this over?
Kaito takes off his shirt and locks the door of the bathroom, preventing my entrance.
After struggling up the bed, I remembered how Kaito said he doesn't want to sleep with me anymore so I jump off and cuddle beside the bed. I realize it is a bed with no drawers which means it's empty underneath. I push my face into the sheets dangling down from the bed and observed. It is dark but my cat vision light up the space. There is nothing. Just darkness and loneliness. This is good enough for me, the cat who is abandoned. My face starts to burn and the edges of my mouth begin to twitch into a frown. Before I know it, my whiskers sense the salty droplet running down my cheeks and leaving behind a trail of wet fur. More follows after that.
Kaito is not talking to me...
Kaito is not looking at me...
Kaito is not caring about me...
Kaito is not going to let me stay...
"KAITO DOESN'T WANT ME ANYMORE!..."
The water in the bathroom comes to a stop and the door opens. Kaito comes out with dripping hair and pajamas.
He heads straight for the bed and sits down with a phone in his hands.
Kaito... He doesn't even ask: Where's Shiro?
It's been confirmed that he doesn't want me anymore...!
I open my mouth to scream out my cries but I made sure no sounds came out.
I rub my unstoppable tears and try to calm down.
If Kaito no longer wants me around, I should go back to Professor's house and tell him to help me find a way back home... This way, I can just admire him from afar on my laptop screen... I'm a hindrance anyways... ZZZzzzzzzzz...
*Next morning*
The sounds of packing wake me up. I quickly get out from the bottom of the bed and look up. Kaito already has his stuff ready in a backpack and is ready to leave. I open my mouth to say 'Good morning' but Kaito's voice echoing, don't follow me, stops my voice from getting out into the air.
He turns for the door.
He places his hands on the doorknob.
He turns the knob
"K-Meow! (Kaito!)"
He stops his movement for a second and says, "Quit following me."
He opens the door and leaves.
I stand there, trying to process what just came out of his lips.
"N... NOOOO!"
Tears once again start to flow as I rush to the balcony to see Kaito coming out of the hotel entrance. He gets into a car and drives away without looking back.
My heart drops. It feels like something has been scooped out...
I stood there until the cleaner lady tosses me out of the hotel's back doors along where the garbage belongs. Night falls in and more stray cats gather around to dig in the dumpster. They start tearing up bags and bags of garbage. Disgusted by the site, I stand and begin to walk wherever my little kitty feet would take me.
When I come to a realization, I stand outside a familiar gate with familiar writing to the side. Characters that I know by heart, Kuroba. Raindrops drop down one by one onto my tiny head. I stand in the rain for... can't quite tell how long.
A morning bright light strikes my eyes. I had to leave. Kaito is going to go to school soon. I get up to start wandering again.
I'm standing in front of Professor Agasa's house.
I ring the bell on my neck. Agasa picks up but when I open my mouth, only silence.
Agasa tracks my bell and rushes to his front door.
"Ao-kun! What hap..."
His voice becomes quieter and quieter... My sight becomes darker and darker...
When I wake up, there are papers and lab equipment all over the place. I'm back in my basket from Agasa's place, but this is more like Ai-chan's stuff.
I wasn't wrong. Ai-chan is in her lab coat and sitting in her chair typing away on her computer. She turns around in my direction and says, "are you feeling better now?"
I try to lift my head up but I plop back down instead.
"Feel... weak..." I mumble.
She walks over, avoiding all the papers on the ground, to feel the temperature on my forehead.
"I had to become a vet because of you. There's still a high fever but it's been lower than before. 106 degrees Fahrenheit is dangerous for a cat, do you know that? What do you think you are doing to yourself?"
"Maybe if I die... I can leave this place..." Kaito doesn't want me anyways.
"Baka. If you die, you obviously leave this world."
"That's right! Ai-chan! Before I die, I'll be your test subject for antidotes! This way, I can be of some use!"
"You won't work as a test subject because the systems of a human and a cat are different." She calmly speaks.
"Even you don't like me... Wuahaha..."
"Since you look like you are fine now, go play by yourself. I need some quiet space to do my research."
"Okay..."
Taking my time to crawl up the stairs to look for Agasa. He is also working away on his experiments.
I manage to climb up to his working table and he seems thrilled to see me.
"Ao-kun! How are you feeling? Any better? Are you still hurt?"
"Dad, can I trust you?"
"What do you mean, Ao-kun? Of course, you can!"
I lead him to the backside of the house before I question him, "As a scientist, do you believe in a Parallel Universe?"
"... I can't say for sure. There are just so many possibilities out there-"
"I'm from another world."
"..."
Professor and I just exchange glances for a minute or so before he comes to mind.
"What?!"
"That's why I know everythi- almost everything that is going to happen in this world."
This time, Professor Agasa looks at me with seriousness in his eyes. It was disbelief and interest at the same time.
"In my world, your world is considered as fiction. All the people here are nonexistent. For some reason, I'm stuck here. I wasn't afraid because there's nothing much to go back to and I had my favorite character here. I thought it would be interesting. I followed him around but... He has gotten tired of me. I... I want to go back to where I came from. Can you help me find out how?"
Before answering my question, Agasa kneels down and brings me around his arms.
"It's okay... You got me..."
I bring my little paws around his neck. It is warm... Maybe... I can stay for a bit longer and enjoy this warmth that doesn't belong to me...
