As she ran, me and some of the Pokémon nearby decided to pay attention to her breaking the leaves and twigs in half while running at the same time. Some quick thinking happened and we decided to follow her, wondering why she was being here in the first place. After all, no human comes to this forest on purpose!
After a while, all of us stopped moving, as the girl found herself sitting down at a log. But when we looked closer, I suddenly realized that she was using a Pokémon move! How can a human use Fake Tears? It really looks like she's really—...
Oh.
"Hey!" After a few moments, all of us looked around trying to figure out where that cry came from. When we looked back at the girl, I saw an Eevee slowly approaching her, her cute head raised trying to reach the girl's height.
The female noticed the voice coming to her and raised her head to see the Eevee giving a soft smile. "Rosie..." The girl said moving closer to the Eevee to pet her. "I-I can't believe I forgot to return you to your Pokéball..."
After the moment of Rosie being petted—and clearly enjoying it—she looked up at her trainer's face and began talking the only way she could. "Why did you run?" she said tilting her head soon after. I don't think it took her too long for the human to understand what she was asking...
Wait, she ran? Who or what did she run from?
The female looked at the direction both of them came from, wondering how Rosie even found her in the first place. "I-I don't really know… It happened all so fast," The trainer said moving her head down to Rosie. "But from what happened a few minutes ago, it looked like I was—."
"Nervous?" All of us quickly turned to a teenager, blond-haired boy wearing a cap signaling the Pokémon League. The only people who would wear that here is if they got to the finals of that tournament…
"Champion Aaron!" The trainer said slowly backing away from him. "You're here, in the flesh!" I could hear the bits of snickering coming from my group.
Aaron chuckled instead, probably because everyone wanted to call him by his title name before his real name. "Please, just call me Aaron. What's your name, newbie?"
The girl for some reason took a deep breath and looked at Aaron with a determined face. "Madoka. My name is Madoka… How did you know that I was a new trainer?"
Aaron approached Rosie to kneel down and start petting her. "The annual 'Champion to New Trainer Speech' is a good way to recognize new faces. I guess I got lucky with you being in the front row!"
While Aaron and Madoka were having a laugh, Rosie was still feeling the amazing rubbing coming from the Champion. But when he stopped, she decided to hop on Madoka's shoulders, and give a grin to him. "...How much did you see?"
"Not much." He said, standing and shrugging after. "I saw you about to enter the gym when you froze up and started running a few seconds later."
Judging from Madoka drooping her head down, Aaron probably saw everything that happened. "I just don't know why I can't go and battle my first gym…"
"From the looks of it, you just have your partner Rosie, don't you?" Aaron asked as Rosie jumped on top of Madoka's head. "And you probably haven't met any other trainers…"
I meanwhile decided to jump to lower branches to get a better view of things. It wasn't enough for me to be spotted, but my tail stuck out when I peeked. "Yeah…" She responded while Rosie nodded as a response. "Why are you asking that?"
Aaron started laughing knowing what he had to do. "Madoka, I think it's time we give you your first Pokémon trainer battle!"
"Wait," I said to myself and looked at the other Pokémon with me. "How can you not have any experience with battles and get to the gym in the first place?!" I turned around, and my best friend—a female Shinx—was peeking at the humans on the same branch.
"Don't know… I don't think we should worry about that now," she simply responded.
While we were talking, Madoka's eyes widened and she took a step back before falling. "Me? V-Versus You?!" She yelled while her partner pushed her back to sit up.
"Come on! It'll be fun!" Aaron said before grabbing her hand to pull her up from the ground. Both me and Shinx peeked at the same time and wondered how a Pokémon battle even worked.
"...Alright. Let's do it!"
Both of us cheered as the other Pokémon higher in the trees decided to move away before they got spotted. But me and Shinx decided to follow the three since they were moving deeper into the forest anyway. As we were hopping the branches, I looked at Shinx. "I wonder why are they going to the epicenter of the forest..."
I think Aaron might have heard me talking, as he turned his head toward us. "There's a reason, Riolu and Shinx." He said, which made me look at the two humans. I could see Rosie's head turn to look at the two of us and she gave a wave with her paw.
"Great, they know we're here…" I said to myself as I didn't pay attention to the next branch. My body would hit the branch and groan in pain as my grip loosened, making me fall to the ground. As I almost braced for injury, I could feel Madoka jumping towards me and catching before I reached the ground. We landed luckily on a pile of leaves, making a soft landing and a sigh of relief on me… Wait, I could be caught now! I don't want that happening!
My body started squirming trying to get out Madoka's arms, but I couldn't move anywhere. After a quick moment of getting up, Madoka lifted me up in the air to reach the branch I was in. "There you go!" She said, giving a grin soon after. I don't think she was thinking of catching me at all…
Shinx jumped next to me and placed her paw on my shoulder. "You alright?" she asked while Madoka got back with her partner and Aaron.
"Yeah… I guess humans aren't that one-sided as I originally thought."
Rosie jumped back to Madoka's shoulders and laughed. "You did amazing, Madoka!" The Eevee shouted as everyone started moving again. Her trainer simply laughed as my friend focused on me.
"Aaron's kinda weird…" Shinx said to me while jumping to the next branch. "For some reason, I think I saw his ear twitch before Madoka ran to grab you from falling."
I looked at her confused. "Humans can't do that, right?" It was something along the lines of people evolving themselves.
Shinx shook her head as all of us reached our destination… Wait, that's weird.
We were currently in the epicenter of the forest, where a small grass plain was supposed to be there swaying side to side. Instead the grass plain was bigger, as a huge rectangular battlefield was placed in the smack middle of it. "What the?" I shouted at the branch, Shinx right next to me. "We were here yesterday and this wasn't there!"
Aaron and Madoka weren't worried about that, as she placed Rosie on the concrete floor and kneeled down. "So…" she said looking at Aaron when he moved to the other side of the field. "How exactly does this work?"
"It's quite simple—at least in my opinion." On his right side of his belt he took out a Pokéball and sighed. "Leon, let's go!" He yelled as the ball was lifted toward the air.
A bright light flashes on the ground, startling me and Shinx. As we went higher up the ground, we could feel the air getting slightly hotter, confusing us both. When we looked back at the battlefield, an Arcanine was staring right at Rosie, which made her completely frightened, to put it simply. She ended up running behind her trainer, and Madoka went to look at her. "You're gonna be great, Rosie." She said kneeling down. "Don't give up."
Meanwhile, the Arcanine called Leon decided to turn to Aaron and talk to him. "What's going on?" He asked.
"I'm giving Madoka and Rosie here their very first battle against someone, Leon. It just so happened I picked you for it!" Leon laughed a bit after moving closer to the new trainer and partner.
I meanwhile decided to yell. "Aaron! How are you talking to him normally?" Shinx was about to ask the same question, but she shut her mouth to hear the answer.
"The same way I hear you talking now…" Aaron responded before moving his head back to Leon. "Rosie's the Eevee!" He yelled.
"Yeah, yeah," He said, moving to Rosie who got startled again. "Haven't done a battle yet? We can share each other's moves if you want."
Rosie quickly shuddered before stepping outside Madoka's bubble. "I have Quick Attack, Growl, Swift, and S-Shadow Ball…" she said, moving closer to look up at Leon.
The Arcanine placed his huge paw on top of Rosie's head and gave a quick rub. "I don't usually do this, but Flamethrower, Roar, Extreme Speed, and Reversal are my moves… I wish you luck!" Leon went to his side of the battlefield and gave a grin when he turned around.
"Okay. I can do this," Rosie mumbled to herself moving forward. "Let's do this!"
Madoka smiled with Rosie's readiness, but looked back at Aaron for something. "I know you can talk to Leon with your bonding of each other, but how can I do that with Rosie?"
Aaron paused himself before talking. "There's multiple ways, but we are going to battle…" he moved toward the middle of the battlefield to take in the surroundings. "I want you to close your eyes and imagine you're in Rosie's eyes during this fight. Rosie, do the same, but try and look at Madoka's eyes."
It made both of them a bit gullible, because she and Rosie closed their eyes immediately after Aaron finished his sentence. Maybe it was because they thought the Champion knew everything, but what Aaron did next startled me. With a snap of Aaron's fingers, and a call to open their eyes, Rosie's eyes glowed blue, making me and Shinx jump back.
"What the…" I said with my mouth hanging open. Shinx had her mouth open, and was completely speechless.
Rosie blinks her eyes a couple of times before looking up at Aaron. "How am I?" Madoka said while Rosie turned to her. She could see her eyes also glowing blue, which made me jump down to the grass to get a better view.
Madoka couldn't fully understand Rosie, but she knew in her opinion what was going on. "It worked! Your advice worked!" Rosie said to Aaron, which he gave a smile back before moving to his spot.
Shinx jumped down and gave me a weird look. "This looks impossible," She said moving to a bush.
"It is impossible." I decided to sit down and close my eyes. Based on the aura readings, Rosie and Madoka still have control of their bodies, but their vision has been swapped to see each other's view. That, and Aaron has a Pokémon aura.
"Alright," He said while I opened my eyes again. "You wanna get started with this match?" Judging from Rosie jumping around, that was definitely a yes in his book. "Alright! Your move."
Madoka thought for a second before looking at the surroundings and taking a deep breath. "Rosie, use Quick Attack!" The Eevee glowed blue for a second before starting to run towards Leon. Leon didn't bother to dodge as he probably knew he wouldn't take that much damage from the he did get pushed hard enough to almost cross the battlefield line.
"Wow!" Aaron yelled surprised. "That was stronger than I originally thought! Leon, use Roar!" Leon's voice growl yelled right at Rosie, making me start rolling back toward the bush, where Shinx was.
"I can't believe you were actually willing to risk being caught." Shinx said to me as Rosie jumped into the air and fired a Swift at Leon.
"Dodge using Extreme Speed!" Aaron yelled, which made Leon pounce for a second before charging straight at Rosie when a tailwind appeared… I think Madoka caught on to a weakness of Extreme Speed little knew about.
"Rosie, wait there for a moment," Madoka said waiting for the right moment. With the battlefield being too huge for me to measure, it took about five seconds before Aaron knew what she was doing.
"Stop moving!" Aaron yelled. Leon looked back and started skidding, which made Madoka give a smirk.
"Jump and use Shadow Ball!" Rosie's mouth opened as she jumped to the side and made a Shadow Ball from her mouth. When she fired it, a black cloud appeared when it hit Leon's chest, making him groan.
I can see the excitement of both their faces, even though their perspectives are different. "You know…" I said pausing before looking at Shinx. "I think I kinda understand Pokémon Battles now." Shinx looked at me confused, wondering how I know this after an entire minute of battling. "I think if you look at their faces, you could tell."
Shinx looked at the two partners, and only saw both of them grinning. "The two of them being happy? What's that supposed to mean?"
I chuckled at her. "The point of a Pokemon battle is to have fun!"
Shinx stepped back a bit, very much thinking that I sounded crazy. "How exactly do you have fun in a Pokémon battle?"
We looked back at the battle where Leon was using Flamethrower on Rosie, and had to quickly stop, drop, and roll since she got burned. Everyone laughed, which made Rosie blush before using Growl quickly. Both trainers soon after called off Quick Attack and Extreme Speed, making Rosie and Leon charge at each other. When they started exchanging hits, I looked back at Shinx.
"If you take a look closer at their smiles, it shows what I think is called bonding with each other. And an old friend once told me that bonding with your Pokemon is the best way to win your battle…" I moved my head closer to the fight right now, where both fighters were exhausted, but still had the energy to start laughing. "My guess for Madoka and Rosie is they use laughter for their bonding."
As it turned out, Aaron got into the laughter the three of them were having as well! "This match is amazing…! But I think me and Leon haven't given it our all."
"Of course you haven't," I mumbled. "You haven't even used—… Oh, here it comes!"
"Leon!" Aaron yelled. "Use Reversal!" Leon's entire body glowed red for a few seconds before charging at Rosie. I sorta know that Reversal's power increases as his health goes down…
The attack hit Rosie with full force, creating a huge cloud of smoke. It blinded me and Shinx but we could see Rosie start rolling out the cloud. "Oh no…" Madoka said to her partner. "Do you think you can continue?"
Rosie shook herself back up and looked at Madoka. "I'm good!" She faced Leon. "I'm not gonna give up yet!" After the call of attack, she charged at Leon to go for another Quick Attack.
"Leon, use Reversal again!" As luck would have it, Rosie made contact with Leon just as soon as Reversal was activated, making both Pokémon fly towards their trainer.
"...Stop!" I yelled while running the middle of the battlefield. I moved both my paws to both sides of the field and made everyone move their attention to me. Both Madoka and Rosie started blinking, making their vision go back to their respective bodies.
"What are you doing Riolu?" Shinx said moving out the bush.
"I'm stopping this fight! Both Pokémon have taken enough damage without them at some point falling down and fainting…" I said panting soon after. I think I talked too fast.
I assumed everyone but Madoka understood me, but she finally caught on when she looked at Rosie, who was extremely exhausted. She ended up moving towards me and kneeled down. "You really wanna end this battle so no one gets hurt anymore?" After my head turned to look at her blue eyes, I nodded. "Okay, I'll do it. On one condition."
Me and Shinx's head tilted in confusion as she started moving closer to the battlefield. "What's that?" me and her said at the same time.
"...I want you two to join my team!" She said with a grin soon after. Shinx could see me take a step back, and I decided to ask why for some reason. "With the two of you guys having little to no problem jumping from branch to branch, dodging attacks should be no problem!"
Shinx stepped up after a few moments of thinking. "I'm down! Riolu…?" She turned around and stared at me.
You just had to put me on the spot, didn't you?
"F-Fine." I said crossing my arms while nodding. "I'll join."
Rosie immediately charged at me and gave me a tackle which made Shinx and Madoka laugh. With her being on top of me, jumping around, I could barely hear Aaron and Leon approach us.
He could see Madoka thinking in Shinx's direction. "Is something wrong?"
She looked up and forgot Aaron was here. "S-Sorry! I made a commitment to my mom to name every Pokémon I officially catch…" Rosie got off me when Madoka picked up Shinx and noticed the blue hind paws. "Well, you're a female," she said, stating the obvious. "And my guess, you like staring at the skyline." That was completely true, because the last time I counted the times she looked at the sky, my paws lost count. "Then I guess your name should be Sky!"
I moved closer to Shinx where after a brief moment of thinking, she smiled and started wagging her tail like there's no tomorrow. "That's perfect!" Shinx—now Sky—started jumping up and down before Madoka bent down at my height.
"What do you know? My first male member…" Madoka mumbled to herself. Apparently, she found me very stubborn, but when I knew what I was doing, almost nothing would have stopped me… "Just like Jordan."
I didn't ask then, but Jordan was her younger brother, who I really assumed is like me, personality wise. "Jordan…" I said, trying my new name out. It's not starting with "R" but… It fit me automatically.
My face nodded, making Madoka know that it was the name I wanted. "Well," She said, getting back up. "I don't have any Pokeballs with me right now… Sky and Jordan, do you know how to get out of this forest?"
"We've been here all our lives!" Sky said to her while holding onto me. "Of course we can!" I only nodded in agreement.
Madoka smiled and looked at Aaron. "How can I ever thank you?"
Aaron chuckled and started rubbing Leon. "Just win your first gym battle… And I'll see you in the finals of the Pokémon League." Madoka laughed for a few moments before calling all of us to walk off the battlefield.
The other three just got into the forest when Aaron shouted at me. "Jordan!" I turned around, and to my surprise, the battlefield was completely gone! But Aaron and Leon weren't surprised. "Please take care of her," Aaron said before literally starting to float in the air.
And there's only one Pokémon that I know who does that. "See you later, old friend." I waved goodbye and started running to catch up to my new team.
Meanwhile, Aaron started laughing and glowing white in the air. A shiny Mew came out the light momentarily, and grinned. "That was so fun!" He said doing a few loop-de-loops after.
Leon's paw hit Aaron's head and he started pushing Aaron to his height. "Trying to reveal yourself in public is really bad, and you know that."
The Mew rolled his eyes. "Come on! At least Madoka's happy now." He moved outside Leon's paw and sat down on the grass. Right now, the grassy area in the forest shrank back to its regular size, and more trees surrounded the two.
"...You chose me because I'm too lazy to report this, didn't you?"
Aaron only grinned while staring at the sky, full of clouds. "Man," he said chuckling soon after, "I love my job."
