August 10-16

August 10, 1999

Our journey begins tomorrow, on the 11th. My sister, Aidyn's, fourteenth birthday. I promised her that we'd battle the Gyms and League together, as siblings, so I waited. I'm 18 now, and I have a job that I've just quit so I can go with my sister just as I promised. We'll be going to Professor Elm's lab early in the morning to receive our first partner. She's already decided on Cyndaquil, as for me, I'm going to claim a Totodile. I have always liked Water-types anyway. It's getting late though, and I've gotta sleep, but I want to record our journey to the Indigo Plateau and beyond from start to finish. -Ethan

It was exciting today! We've just arrived in Cherrygrove after a day's walk from New Bark. Aidyn and her Cyndaquil, she named him Lava, have become fast friends, Lava is just as rambunctious as his trainer. My Totodile, Dundee, is a quiet little guy, in fact he's asleep next to me as I write. I also captured a Spearow, who I named Kooka, due to a sound he makes when mad. Kooka's real feisty, and has only just now settled down and dozed off. Aidyn wants to spend more one-on-one time with Lava, so she isn't going to catch another Pokemon for a little longer. Though we did spot an odd-colored Phanpy fleeing the scene of where I caught Kooka. Maybe it's one of those "Shiny" Pokemon my boss was telling me about. He said his cousin had found a green Zubat so who knows. Anyway, we're going to spend the night in this Pokemon Center then go on to Mr. Pokemon's house to finish Elm's errand before heading on to Violet City to take on the Gym Leader nearest to us, Falkner. -Ethan

Man I can't wait to get a bike! All this walking just saps the life outta you. I envy Kooka, he can just sit on my shoulder the whole way. Oh yeah, I've gained his trust now, so that's nice. Dundee is being his usual shy self, and likes to stay in his PokeBall as much as possible. I couldn't have gotten a more polar opposite from Aidyn's partner. Lava just loves to run around and play. Likes to battle too, he outright attacked a poor Metapod that was just leaning on a tree. I shook the little rat off though, so the Metapod will be fine (i hope). Luckily the walk to Mr. Pokemon's house wasn't near as long as the one from New Bark to Cherrygrove, we were able to get there and back in only a few hours. There was a big surprise in Professor Oak himself just happening to be visiting! He said he "saw our potential" and noted how quickly Kooka had grown to trust me! We were both given Pokedexes for our journey! As for what Elm needed us to get, it was some kind of Pokemon Egg for a species that hasn't been seen before. Aidyn and I are going to head back to Elm's lab tomorrow morning and find out more. We want to stick around in Cherrygrove for the rest of the day to train our Pokemon. I think Dundee has gotten a little more comfortable with me, so that's good. -Ethan

Had to get out of Cherrygrove and back to New Bark in a mad hurry! Still didn't get there before sunset because of all the Furret being extra territorial today. I got a phone call from Elm, and learned that the Chikorita who wasn't picked by either of us got stolen! In fact, we ran into a rather mean kid with a Chikorita, who seems to be the suspect described by Elm. I mean red hair like that is kinda hard to forget. He challenged me to a battle but Kooka and Dundee made short work of his Grass-type. Kid told me his name is "Silver". Kind of a dumb name if you ask me. He went on about becoming the strongest trainer but he's got some work ahead of him if he lost to my weak team. We're spending the night at home before heading back out for real this time. Hopefully it's the last time we have to double-back across that damn, Furret-infested road. Can't even catch them because they're too high level. Not gonna sign it tonight or anymore because by this point you should know who's journal you're reading.

I was honestly too tired to write anything about the 14th down, and nothing interesting happened that day anyway. We're finally in Violet City! First thing I did was check out Sprout Tower, I found a Gastly, so that was neat. I named her "Nin'' as I honestly kinda blanked my mind there. Oh, and Aidyn caught a Spinarak, which she promptly traded for my Gastly. Little buy is cute, likes riding on my backpack. Unfortunately Aidyn didn't bother naming it so it only responds to "Spinarak''. I'm gonna call it "Boris'' anyway, I don't know what gender it is, but I'll figure that out sooner or later. Either way, they're a welcome addition to my party, and Dundee gets along well with them, so that's a bonus. Oh right, Sprout Tower. Aidyn and I went up together, and found that Silver kid again. He's still an ass, but whatever. We challenged the head Sage to a Double Battle and won! Boris proved itself here, so I'm glad to have them. We're going to challenge Falkner tomorrow, but one at a time. Hopefully everything goes well and we come out on top!

We beat Falkner! I let Aidyn do the first challenge against the Gym, and her team knocked it out of the park! Nin couldn't actually be offensive against Falkner's Pokemon as they're both part Normal and she only knows Lick, but she was able to use Confuse Ray on Pidgeotto before getting KO'd by Mud Slap. Lava managed to take out both his Pidgey and Pidgeotto himself, and learned Ember after defeating the former. After Aidyn completed her challenge it was my turn to face off against Falkner. While I may have outnumbered his team, he certainly outskilled me. I forgot about Boris' weakness to Flying and it was knocked out in one hit by Gust, leaving Kooka and Dundee to finish the fight. Kooka took on Pidgey and managed to outmaneuver his opponent and make the KO with peck, though when Pidgeotto came in Kooka stood no chance. Dundee entered the field and took various attacks from Pidgeotto, so we could power up Rage. When Dundee finally unleashed his anger it was an onslaught of blows and bites that disoriented the bird and it eventually bit the dust (not for real, just fainted). All in all, things are going well. This adventure won't be one to forget!
