A/N: more little Eda and Lilith fluff (ish) to help recover from that last one shot lol. I'll usually try to make up for the angst ones, I care about my readers!
"Pssst! Eda!"
Eda's tired eyes reluctantly opened, seeing the top half of her little sister's head popping up from the edge of her bed. It was probably midnight, or three in the morning for all she cared. But whenever Lilith needed something that required disturbing sleep, Eda was more than willing to oblige. "Yeah?" She asked with a yawn, shifting to lay on her side.
The younger witch crawled up onto Eda's bed, holding her nightgown so it wouldn't cause her to trip and fall on her way up. "Mother and Father finally went to bed." She said in a whispered tone, a small, knowing smile creeping up on her lips. "You know what that means..."
"I can go to sleep?" Eda asked playfully.
Lilith rolled her eyes, "No, silly! We can go play now!"
The older sister sighed, sitting up from her comfortable position. "Look, I want to go play as much as you do, trust me." She began, holding Lilith's shoulder. "But Mother said if we do it again, we'll be in big trouble."
"Since when do you care about getting in trouble?" Lilith asked, crossing her arms. "I thought you were a bad girl?"
"I am." Eda said proudly, raising a brow.
"Sooo?"
Eda thought for a moment. As confident and fearless as she was, she did have her doubts. Especially having strict parents. But what harm would come from just playing with her sister? Besides, how big of a punishment could they possibly get? They weren't even 8-years-old, it wasn't like they had many privileges anyway.
Lilith noticed her sister pondering the offer, so she decided to say something she knew would convince her. She leaned in closer to Eda's face, smirking. "Hoot, hoot."
The older witch smirked as well, shaking her head. She couldn't resist the 'secret call' they had. It was only really used when one of them really wanted something from the other, or to get secrets out of each other.
"Ca-caw." She responded.
Lilith giggled and took her sister's hand, dragging her out of the bed. They both ran as fast as their tiny legs could carry them, down the dimly lit hallway and out into the backyard. It was relatively spacious, plenty of room to play. And thankfully, their neighbors were spread out from them, so they didn't have to worry about making too much noise.
As they stood in the center of their yard, they giggled triumphantly, surprised they hadn't awoken their light-sleeping parents. "Come on, do your magic!" Lilith encouraged, eager to see her older sister's skills.
Eda laughed, "Only if you do yours, too!"
"Okay, okay, we'll do it together." Lilith nodded, "How about...a light spell!" She suggested. It was a simple, easy spell that children younger than them could master. But Lilith loved creating light, especially since it was the first spell she learned from her sister.
Eda nodded as well. They both held up their index fingers, beginning to trace small circles in the air. The circles then transformed into orbs of light, to which looking at made Lilith's eyes twinkle in awe. "It's so pretty." She grinned as she watched the orbs float upward.
But she took notice to how much brighter and larger Eda's was, which made her slightly envious. "Aw, I wish I was as powerful as you." She admitted.
Eda snorted and rubbed her sister's head affectionately. "Someday, Lily." She said assuringly. "But for now, let's play a little game." She suggested, then drew another circle in the air, creating another spell. "Watch this!"
From the circle, a large flame emitted and blasted up into the open air. Luckily, it faded quickly before causing any destruction, only leaving small flakes of ash on the ground. Lilith gasped in awe, "Fire?!"
"Yup." Eda said proudly, "Don't tell Father, but I read some of his books and creating elemental spells is actually pretty easy."
"Can you teach me?!" The younger sister asked, grabbing and tugging on Eda's arm in a pleading manner, "Please, please, please?!"
"Alright, alright," She rolled her eyes.
Half an hour passed, and by now both sisters were creating balls of water and blasting fire into the sky, attempting to make fireworks of some sort. Eda was able to control the wind, so she used that to her advantage in keeping the flames in place. Both of them attempted at creating structures of their favorite creatures from wood and stone, but every time they tried, it would only fall apart or come out distorted.
Eda was determined to succeed at it, though. She decided that maybe she wasn't trying hard enough, or maybe the spell circles were too small. While her sister suggested something that she tuned out, she put her finger onto the ground and began to draw a shape.
"What are you doing?" Lilith asked.
She ignored the question and continued to trace a large, yellow circle onto the grass, having to walk around in order to fully complete it. Once it was finished, the ground inside the circle lit up and caused the grass to die out. Lilith gasped, her jaw dropping as her eyes fixated on a large, circular figure rising from the ground.
Both of them raised their heads, watching a wooden structure grow and face them, revealing itself to be an owl-like being. It hooted deeply, and that was all it seemed to do. "Wow! How did you do that?!" Lilith asked, holding her sister's shoulder, smiling in awe and amusement.
"I...have no idea." Eda chuckled, "But dang! I'm so awesome at this!" She pumped her fists.
The owl structure rose up a bit, then began to lower its head down to their level, facing them in some way. "Well, hello." Eda smiled, putting her palm up against its head, specifically between its 'eyes'. She turned to Lilith and smirked, "You know, we could have some fun with this."
—
"WOOOHOOO!!" Eda exclaimed, raising her arms up in the air.
Lilith squeezed her eyes shut as her arms wrapped tightly around her sister's torso. As fun as it was riding on the back of an owl made of wood that Eda had created and was somehow controlling, it was also terrifying. They were extremely high up in the air, and the owl was traveling faster than she would've preferred. She knew Eda was doing this, though, so as long as she had control over its movements, they would be fine.
"E-Eda, I'm not sure we should be doing this." She said uncertainly, gripping onto her sister tighter if possible.
Eda scoffed, blowing tuffs of her orange hair from her face. "Relax, Lil. We'll be fine!" She said nonchalantly, then lightly smacked the side of the owl's wood. "Faster, Hooty!"
Lilith gave a confused look, "You named this thing?!"
"Yup. Pretty cool, huh?" She asked.
The owl structure did as commanded, suddenly shifting through the air at a faster pace, which made Lilith yell out of fear. "Eda!" She hid her face on her sister's shoulder, "I-I'm getting kinda scared!"
Eda's pointy ears twitched, her enthusiastic demeanor completely fading. An overprotective instinct took over and replaced her excitement and carefreeness with concern and worry. Anytime her sister was scared or frightened, she had to be there to help her. But to hear that Lilith was scared because of her was alarming.
Reacting to her emotions, the owl structure stopped abruptly, but since they were so high in the air, it wasn't able to stay put, being how large it was. It hooted before it's head suddenly dropped and began diving down toward the ground. Both girls screamed, watching as they were getting closer to the earth at a rapid pace.
Lilith cried out and clung onto her sister for dear life, hiding her face beneath the blowing untamed hair, gripping the fabric of the nightgown, praying this would be over soon. "Eda!"
The older witch frowned, then furrowed her brows in determination. Lilith needed her to be her big sister right now, so that's what she intended to be. She pounded her fist against the owl structure's side, silently commanding it to slow down.
But her mind was elsewhere. She was too distracted, too torn between protecting Lilith while also having fun with her. So instead, the owl shifted in the upward direction, still moving at the same fast pace. She growled in frustration, now kicking it with her little foot. "Hey you! Take us down now!" She ordered.
It hooted, moving back down towards the ground again, but surprisingly faster. Lilith yelled again, feeling herself beginning to lose strength in her tiny arms, which was loosening her grip on her sister. "Eda, make it stop!" She begged.
"I'm trying!" She responded defensively. She knew it was reacting to her emotions and thoughts, which was the real reason it wasn't doing what Lilith wanted. But Eda couldn't tell her that.
"Try harder!" The little sister exclaimed angrily.
"Hey, gimme a break!" Eda scowled, "I'm doing my best!"
Eda was now more annoyed than concerned or focused. In fact, she was distracted now. And there wasn't a chance the owl was going to do what she intended, only to how she was feeling.
As it started plummeting downward, it hooted and began to twist around in a circle. The girls tried to hold onto it, but since it shifted so suddenly, they lost their grip and began to fall by themselves.
Lilith lost her grasp on Eda and started to fall away from her, screaming at the top of her lungs. Eda had her eyes closed at first, since she was too afraid to look at the ground. But then she heard Lilith's screams and cries. She gasped, now seeing the terror on her sister's face.
"Lilith!" She called out in desperation, beginning to reach her hand out.
Lilith dared to open her eyes and looked up at her, "Eda, help!"
Eda frowned softly, realizing that she would actually have to try harder. Her baby sister needed her to. She gritted her teeth and drew a circle in the air, creating a gust of wind to carry Lilith, but instead it just spun her around and delayed her fall.
"Oops." Eda murmured, then shook her head. She drew another circle, now conjuring up a ball of water beneath Lilith. She intended for it to hold her and safely take her to the ground, but instead, the younger witch fell right through it, now soaking wet.
Fire would definitely not help their situation, so the only elemental spell left would be earth. They were getting closer to the ground, and any second now they would be dead. Eda had to think fast, and she had to focus. Her emotions couldn't get the best of her this time.
Eda moved towards her sister, holding an arm out to her. "Lily, hold onto me!" She said above the wind. Lilith frowned, hesitant to do as she was told, which tore Eda's heart out. Never had her sister looked at her that way. Ever. They always trusted each other no matter what. But now Lilith was having second thoughts. Eda had broken her trust.
"Lilith, please!" She cried out, noticing how much closer the ground was. "Ca-caw!"
Lilith's eyes went wide. She then grabbed onto her sister, shaking in her embrace. "Hoot, hoot." She whimpered.
Eda held onto her with one arm, using the free one to draw a large circle. Out from the owl structure's side came yet another, smaller one. It hooted quietly and dashed right under them, just in time for then to land on it. Eda laughed in surprise, now directing it to take them down to the ground at a safer pace.
Once it was close enough, Eda hopped off of it onto her feet. "I did it! Did you see that?! I did it!" She said victoriously, jumping excitedly. "I saved our butts!"
Lilith stood next to her, eyeing her skeptically. "You also nearly killed us."
"But then I saved us!" She grinned in her sister's face. "Take that, Principal Buttface! I do have potential as a witch!"
The younger girl sighed, rubbing her nails through her hair. "Yeah, that was pretty cool." She chuckled.
"Pretty cool?" Eda scoffed, "It was epic!" She laughed, pulling her sister in for a hug. "You okay?"
"I am now." She nodded, nuzzling against Eda's chin. "Thanks for saving me."
"Don't mention it." Eda said nonchalantly.
"EDALYN CLAWTHORNE!"
Both girls flinched and widened their eyes, slowly turning towards the back door to their house. They gulped, seeing both their parents standing in the doorway. Furious didn't even begin to describe how they looked.
"Uh oh..." Eda murmured wearily.
"Inside, now!" Their father demanded, pointing towards the living room.
The sisters exchanged a nervous glance, slowly walking over to the patio as their mother snapped her fingers, making the owl structures disappear into thin air. Lilith held her sister's hand, staying right by her side as they entered the house, brushing past their angered parents.
