That night, Jennyanydots and Jellyorum observed the two kittens as they slept in the spare bed they had in the back room of the den. Skimbleshanks and Asparagus were on watch duty, so it was just the queens and the two new found kittens that night. In the coming week, the tribe's leader Old Dueteromnomy was going to be going on a long trip to visit other tribes, and was going to leave his sons, Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap with them while he was away. Both of the queens thought that the interaction with other kittens would probably be good for bringing Bombalurina and Demeter out of their shell. Just then, Demeter stirred and began crying in her sleep. Without hesitation, Jellyorum went over and scooped the tiny kitten up.

"It's alright darling, it's just a dream " she soothed as she rocked her from side to side "just a bad bad dream." Bombalurina suddenly began to stir. With her eyes still closed, she began feeling around the bed for her

"Demi?"she called, her voice touching on panic She sat up and her eyes shot open

"Demi!" she cried

"Shhh, she's right there dear"Jennyanydots said quietly as she sat down on the bed next to the scarlet kitten and motioned to where Jellyorum stood cradling Demeter, who was still upset from her nightmare

"She's alright, she just had a nightmare" Jellyorum explained hugging the black and gold kitten closer.

"Would you like her back darling?" Bombalurina nodded and Jellyorum made her way back to the bed and gently placed the Demeter into her sister's arms. She then took a seat on the side of the bed opposite from Jenny. She observed the way Bombalurina protectively embraced her younger sister and whispered words of comfort to her, just like a mother would.

"You are such a wonderful big sister." Jellyorum stated fondly.

Bombalurina gave a small shy smiled and nuzzled into Demeter's head fur.

"She's been having lots of nightmares ever since mummy left"

Jelly and Jenny exchanged sad looks

"How long ago was that dearie?" Jenny asked, placing a gentle paw on her back

"A few weeks I think" Bombalurina said not totally sure. Time began to blur together for her, as all her thoughts and energy were put towards her and her sister's survival

"We just woke up one morning and she was gone" on the word gone her voice cracked.

Jelly and Jenny exchanged sad looks again, this time Jenny closed her eyes and shook her head with despair

"What did we do?!" Bombalurina asked before her small body was racked with sobs

"Mummy" Demeter murmured sadly before sobs escaped her as well.

"Oh darling..." Jellyorum started, crushed by the sad state of the two innocent kittens. Before the queens could do anything else, Bombalurina fell into Jenny's arms, desperate for any affection that could resemble her mother's. The queens were surprised by this as the kitten had been so defensive and reserved before. Nevertheless, Jenny wrapped her arms around the depressed kitten and pulled her close. Demeter who was no longer wrapped up in her sister's arms, began crying equally as hard. Jellyorum followed suit and once again took Demeter into her arms and began to rock her. Jenny now had Bombalurina in her lap facing inwards. Bombalurina's arms wrapped around the queens sternum and burried her face in her chest. Jenny held her tightly and used a paw to gently rub her back

"It's not your fault dear one" she said softly "not your fault at all".

Demeter's sobs turned into near screams, muffled by her face being burried in the crook of Jelly's neck. Jelly stood up and began to walk around hoping it would serve to be calming for the now hysterical kit. She began to bounce her and hum as she strolled around the main room of the den. A little time went on and both kittens calmed down to the point where their screams and sobs were mainly just sniffles and an occasional whimper

"How about something more to eat?" Jenny suggested gently to Bombalurina. The kitten shook her head. Her stomach was queezy from all the crying

"What about some warm milk" the gumbie cat suggested again

"Yes I think some warm milk would be good" Jellyorum said standing up from where sh was sitting with Demeter.

Now that the black and gold kitten was no longer screaming, she pulled her around and propped her on her hip so she could have a paw free to work in their make shift kitchen filled with appliances abandoned in the junkyard by humans. She lit a match and used it to light the old stove. She placed a pot on the burner and poured milk from a jar she pulled out of a cooler. While she waited for the milk to heat, she looked down at the kitten in her arms who was looking back at her with her large hazel eyes. The queen smiled and tickled Demeter under the chin. The kitten giggled and moved her shoulder up to where her chin had been tickled. Jelly chuckled and hoisted Demeter higher up on her waist to prevent her from slipping. When the milk was throughly heated, Jellyorum poured it into two cups she pulled from a milk create used as a cupboard. She sat one of the cups aside and brought the other over Bombalurina, who was still curled up in Jenny's lap

"Here you go love" the queen said gently as she handed the kitten the cup. Bombalurina took it gratefully and brought it to her lips. Jellyorum then walked back over to where she left the other cup. She picked it up and moved to an old sofa with Demeter and helped her hold the cup so it wouldn't spill. After both kittens finished their milk, Jenny and Jelly placed both back in the bed in the back room.

"Let's get some more sleep now my dears" Jenny cooed pulling a large heavy-duty comforter over them. Without so much as a whine in protest, the kittens curled up together and closed their eyes. Within moments both were sound asleep. Jenny and Jelly looked at each other with both satisfaction and sadness.

"Tragic" Jenny muttered shaking her head. Jelly nodded and suggested that they too get some rest before their mates returned from patrol in the morning wanting something to eat. They bid each other good night and went into their separate rooms
