Hi!
So this starts when Dazai leaves the Mafia, he meets Fyodor not too long after that, a few things that are changed:
*The guild work alone, and getting rid of them follows canon (or well, they get forgotten about after the Moby Dick battle for plot reasons)
*Fyodor doesn't do little bitty things to find the book, there is just one big battle for it
*The birth is mentioned but not detailed, in my universe's omega pregnancies last 6 months, the first look scan is at 8 weeks (instead of 12) and the gender scan is at 4 months (rather than 6 months), Omega's tend to pass out after birth for about 2 hours per baby to sort of reset their body so the baby weight etc is gone by the time they wake up - in the past omega's were mainly used for breeding and would be pregnant again within a few months so their bodies needed to be in the best health for it.
*I've only just met Gogol and don't really know what's going on with those working for Fyodor, so I've gone vague as to who he's working with
*Cwtch/Cwtched/Cwtching - It's a Welsh word, here it's meaning a cuddle or hug (but like nicer, cosier and more personal than a hug if that makes any sense?) The word can also mean a small cupboard/cubbyhole
Dazai had been in hiding for a month, it was winter. He had been housed in an apartment block in the city, it was slightly run down, but that just meant fewer prying eyes. Much to his surprise he had been allowed to go outside whenever he wanted as long as he went out with a mask on and his hair covered and didn't cause a nuisance.
He had just finished buying ingredients for his dinner that day when he saw him. He was sat reading a book with two women in colourful kimonos on the cover, Dazai was drawn in by his shoulder length har that sparkled in the afternoon sun. Dazai knew he should just go home, new friendships when you were hiding from the Mafia probably wasn't his best idea, but he just had to talk to him. He quietly sat next to the man,
"That book is full of twists and turns isn't?" Dazai greeted the man, who jumped at his voice. Now he was closer to the man, Dazai caught the alpha scent, he hadn't smelt something so delightful before.
"Ye…Yes, it's not my usual sort of book but the bookseller suggested, I've found it hard to put down" a pause, "I'm Fyodor by the way," he smiled
"Dazai" he paused, "If you don't have any plans this afternoon, how do you feel about joining me for a hot drink and some pastries? I'd love to know what you think about what you've read so far and I know a lovely little café just down the road."
"Sure," Fyodor smiled, packing his book into the bag at his feet
They walked side by side, a wind ruffled Dazai's hair, and Fyodor paused, sniffing.
"You're an omega?"
Dazai nodded
"Wouldn't it be strange for an omega and alpha to sit together? It is frowned upon in my homeland"
"It's not too bad here, most people mistake me for an Alpha. Sorry if my scent is making you uncomfortable, I could've sworn I put scent blockers on this morning"
"It's fine, it just threw me for a moment."
They walked in silence until they reached the café, they hung their thick winter coats on the hook by the door and took a seat next to the window. Once their orders had been brought to their table, Fyodor removed his gloves, placing them next to his cup. They spent the next few hours talking about everything from books to music to niche interests no one else had ever paid interest to. As they talked Dazai found himself falling more and more in love with the man, he may not even know his last name, but he had never found an intellectual equal his own age, let alone one so pretty. Fyodor's voice cut through Dazai's daydreams, just as the sun started to set,
"I didn't notice the time, I'm going to have to leave I'm afraid," he said as he started gathering his things
"That's fine," Dazai smiled, "I hope we can do this again sometime?"
Before Fyodor could reply Dazai had placed his hand on Fyodors, and placed a light kiss on his lips. The tingle of No Longer Human activating, was quickly replaced by the pain of a slap. Fyodor grabbed his gloves, and coat and was gone before Dazai could utter sorry. He wanted to follow Fyodor but the man had blended in with the night, so Dazai grabbed his coat, left an extra tip and left.
He almost made it home before the tears started falling. Much to everyone's surprise he had always been a hopeless romantic, and would act before thinking it through. He had left many broken hearts in his wake that way, but no one had ever made him feel like this. He felt like he had lost a piece of himself to that man. The strange surge of emotions had thrown him off that much, he'd forgotten that the simple touch had activated his ability.
It was a month before he saw Fyodor again, he was sat on the same bench, but had no book with him this time. Dazai was torn, Fyodor had been in his thoughts every night and the memory of his scent had kept Dazai company through his heat, but a slap to the face was a really clear way of saying no. He took too long deciding and Fyodor noticed him.
"Dazai!" he almost leapt off the bench and made his way to Dazai.
"What?"
"I'm sorry about how I ended our last meeting, it took me by surprise. If you're willing, maybe we could take a walk and I can explain myself?"
"I think I owe you an apology also, I can get a little ahead of myself sometimes. There's a nice park nearby if you want to go there?"
Fyodor nodded, and followed as Dazai led the way. The park had a big lake in the centre, so they started to walk around it.
"As you may have guessed I have an ability like yourself."
"Ability?" Dazai had learnt to play dumb when strangers mentioned abilities, as it was an underhanded tactic some organisations used for kidnapping. Fyodor sighed, pulled his glove off and touched Dazai's bare cheek, No Longer Human activated in its dramatic way. As soon as he removed his hand, they continued walking.
"An ability. Crime and Punishment have been the end of many, many people with a simple touch, but with you, Poof! Gone."
The name tugged at Dazai's memories; Mori had mentioned that ability before
"Dostoevsky? You're Fyodor Dostoevsky? The man whose touch can kill?"
"I didn't know my reputation preceded me, although talk of Osamu Dazai, youngest executive in Port Mafia history, demon prodi-"
"Enough. That's who I was."
"Ahh yes, the death of a great man has pushed you to the light."
"Did you wait for me just to tell me you know who I am?"
"No, I'm… I'm lonely. That afternoon was the happiest few hours of my life so far. I don't have much experience of friendship, especially with an omega, but my grand plan is a few years away from fruition and –"
"Friendship? That's all you want? No access to the knowledge I picked up in the Mafia or.."
"No, no, no" Fyodor interrupted him, "I don't care about your past, or your knowledge or your turn to the light. I just want friendship. I know you have to hide for two years and my err colleagues are all back in Russia." Fyodor stopped walking and turned to Dazai, "So, what do you say? Friends?"
"Sure," Dazai smiled, "Friends"
And for a year, that's all they were – friends. It turned out they lived in the same apartment building, and would alternate whose apartment they would spend the day in. They talked, watched TV, spent afternoons making elaborate meals from scratch. They taught each other their language, and one snowy week, made up their own.
The more time they spent together, the more Dazai fell for Fyodor. He knew because of his ability Fyodor had never seen a relationship as a possibility, and Dazai was content to squish his feelings and just enjoy their friendship. He had also been helping Fyodor and his fear of touch, whilst many of the deaths at his hands had been on purpose, many had been accidental, and he hated his hands, covering them in gloves whenever he was around others. He could control his ability better now, but he liked the sense of security they gave him.
But then, a year after their first meeting, Fyodor made a move. A small one, but it was enough for Dazai to hand his heart over to the man.
They held hands.
They were sat on the settee watching a Ghibli Film, a blanket shared between them. Dazai hadn't seen him remove his gloves, or sneak his arm over to Dazai's side of the settee. Dazai jumped at the first touch as Fyodor's hands were cold, he went to remove it but Dazai gripped it tighter.
"Well done," he turned to Fyodor, smiling.
"This feels nice," Fyodor smiled back. They continued to watch the movie, hand in hand.
After that day, Fyodor became bolder in his exploration, wanting to touch every available bit of skin on Dazai. More importantly he wanted to return the favour to Dazai – because of him, he was no longer scared to touch, he wanted to do the same for Dazai and his ever-covered scars. After three months, Fyodor had managed to unravel an arms worth of bandages, and place a light kiss on Dazai's lips. It took him six months to unravel all the bandages and to touch every part of Dazai, well almost every part of Dazai. Dazai's heats were unpredictable and as Fyodor was reluctant to take the Alpha pill, sex was off the table for now.
For their second anniversary, Fyodor surprised Dazai again. They had been seeing less of each other as Dazai had started his job at the Detective Agency and Fyodor was starting the next stage of his plans. They had decided to celebrate with a meal and a movie at Fyodor's apartment. Dazai was running late due to work, but Fyodor still greeted him at the door with a big kiss, the meal already on the table. Dazai had brought dessert in the form of pastries from the café the had gone to, that very first meeting.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, work ran over. This smell's amazing Fedya," Dazai was grinning as he sat down,
"Thank you, it was the first meal we made together, so it seemed fitting."
They ate the meal in a happy silence, clearing up together, Fyodor went back to the table as Dazai sorted the dessert
"I went to the doctor yesterday," Fyodor said.
"Oh? Is everything okay?" Dazai asked, concerned his partner hadn't said anything.
"Yeah," he placed a medication box on the table as Dazai came back to the table with the desserts. He put the plates down, and sat down before picking up the medication box,
"Alphabegone?" he read out the medication name, confused.
"My other conditions mean I can't take a continuous pill, which would be better with your unpredictable heats, but this is a good alternative. I take it when your heat starts, it takes about thirty minutes to kick in but then we're safe for about three days."
"Safe?" Dazai asked confused
"Awww working full days doesn't suit you, does it my love?" Fyodor asked, smirking
"Shush," Dazai yawned
"Safe as in we can have sex during your heat without the possibility of a baby"
"Oh…Ohhhh!" realisation dawned on Dazai, he took Fyodor's hand, "you're ready to have sex?"
"Yes, I have been for a few months, but I wanted to get our plan for your heats sorted. I've got the things we need too…" he trailed off blushing. Dazai lent over the table and kissed him.
"How about I put these away and we make our way to the bedroom?" Dazai voice was low,
"Yes… wait your heats not due yet is it?"
"Two weeks" Dazai answered as he put the pastries away, eager for them to get to the bedroom. It was Fyodor's first time and Dazai was looking forward to showing him just how good it could be.
