On hindsight, he shouldn't have been surprised. He really shouldn't. This is the kind of crap you'd expect to happen in Fairytail. But the truth is, he didn't expect it, no one did. In all his years at the guild he'd come to expect some things that are sure to happen.
Gray and Natsu fighting? Yea
The guild being pulled into the brawl? Sure
Erza's cake getting destroyed? Maybe
Erza bashing their heads? Definitely
Lucy drinking her strawberry smoothie? Of course
Lucy comforting a pair of twins who are clinging to her and calling her mom?
...
Hell no!
So now Laxus just stood there near the bar, frozen, wide-eyed, unblinking and trying to make sense of what he was seeing. This is not happening.
Shall we go back a few to understand what exactly happened?
One hour before
Laxus was enjoying his conversation with Lucy when suddenly the doors to the guild burst open with a loud thud. Everyone turned toward the door to see who had arrived only to blink in surprise and shock. Cause standing at the entrance to the guild were a pair of teenagers. Now normally, this wouldn't be cause for concern as they could very well just be new recruits. But what surprised everyone was that both of them were blonde and had brown eyes which were eerily similar to their resident celestial mage. And to add to the confusion, they both had the Fairytail insignia stamped on their hands. The girl had shoulder length hair which fell free, was wearing a white tank top, pink sleveless jacket and denim shorts with a pair of vans of her feet. She had a gold Fairytail stamp on her right hand.
The boy looked exactly like her(her brother maybe?) His hair was cut short at the sides with a little tuft pulled up into spikes in the center. He was wearing a graphic tee with a blue jacket and distressed jeans. With sneakers on his feet. On his left hand was a dark blue Fairytail stamp.
What was so eerie(and a bit disturbing If he was honest) was that they looked like they could be Lucy's twins (or was it triplets) if they were just a few years older. They looked to be around 15. Confused, he turned to look at Lucy who also looked very confused at the sight.
"someone you know?" he asked her
"No, I don't have any living relatives left" she muttered sadly and he could have kicked himself for his insensitive comment. Not knowing what to do he reached out to her "Lucy I…"
"Who are you?"
He turned back around to see Natsu – huh, wonder when he got here – had stepped forward to question them, looking at them with curiosity shining in his eyes.
The kids smirked at him and the boy replied "now that's just rude Natsu, after all we've been through, or more like going to go through I should say"
"Huh?" Natsu mumbled looking even more confused.
They just laughed and looked around, suddenly freezing when their eyes landed on me.. no wait! Lucy! They were looking at Lucy! I was starting to get a reall bad feeling about this when suddenly..
"MOM!!!"
The kids screamed and pounced – pounced!!! – on Lucy and started crying their eyes out.
It was extremely quiet for about 10 seconds – he counted – such that you could have heard a pin dropping to the floor, and the…
"WHAT!!!!!"
The entire guild erupted in shouts of astonishment and confusion. Everyone was shouting over each other and demanding answers while team Natsu were frozen in a corner looking on with confusion. He turned back to Lucy comforting the kids while looking incredibly flustered and confused.
So yea that's what happened. That's how we got here. Where he's seeing the love of his life comforting a couple of kids who couldn't be that much younger than her, calling her their mother.
Yea. This was so not what he expected from this day.
Lucy had not expected the day to turn out like this when she woke up this morning. She had planned to drink her smoothie, talk to Laxus for a bit and then spend the day with her crazy team. She did not expect to be comforting her kids – omg! Her kids!!! Can we think about that for a moment please? – who came from the future.
Yes, she understood what was going on. Yes, they were her kids – I mean, have you seen them? And yes, they're from the future. After seeing her future self die in her arms and being attacked by dragons from the past, seeing her kids from the future hardly seems that surprising. She looked around at her gawking guildmates and sighed. Looks like no one else understood what was happening. Well, no one else except one other person.
She looked up and her eyes locked with Natsu's. A silent communication passed between them and he nodded. Soon he was dispersing the crowd that had gathered around us. "Alright guys, nothing to see here. Give them some space. They'll explain when they're ready" soon the crowd started shifting back to their tables, though they were still throwing glances her way and discussing among themselves.
She looked down and smiled to herself while gliding her hand through the kids' hair. They had now stopped crying and we're snuggling into her chest. She always could count on Natsu to help her out. She's lost count of how many times he's saved her already. She wondered where she'd be right now if it weren't for him. Dead probably she thought wryly.
She looked back up to see him crouching down in front of her, his eyes on the kids. She was worry shining in his eyes which she knew were reflected in hers as well. He'd been there when her future self sacrificed her life in order to protect hers. He had been affected just as much, if not more than her. And he had only gotten more protective of her since that incident. He raised his head to look at her and she saw determination shining through his fiery gaze. They understood the implications of the kids being here in the past and based on their reactions, that all was not as it should be. And they understood what they had to do. Their jaws clenched and their eyes shone with their resolve.
They will protect their future. No matter what it takes.
AN: So I had finished writing Lucy's perspective on this chapter and just as I was about to save it, some glitch happened and the whole thing got erased. :'( Fortunately, I didn't get discouraged bu it and quickly rewrote the whole thing, though there are probably a few changes from my initial draft. But the gist is the same.
On another note, this is the last I have written up and my uploading schedule would probably slow down now. I'll try to update probably once a week.
This story is not going in the direction that I had first imagined it would. but I like what I have so far.
and for all those who commented and followed/favorited, thank you so much! your love for the story means a lot to me and I'll try to best to writing more often and upload chapters quickly.
Thank you for reading!
