CONGRATULATIONS roban05 (part 2)
NOTE: When Evan is talking, it reminds me of Mr. Potter from It's A Wonderful Life, lol. I didn't intend that, it just happened that way!
TRIVIA: There is another Jennifer in the original show. Who is she?
?-?
"Wow." Sue whispered once inside. If she thought their suite was fancy, it looks like a dump compared to the mansion. There were what looked like originals of famous paintings lining the hallway, and they weren't even into the main part of the house yet. They followed everyone else, ending up in a great big ballroom filled with people. They looked around, dumbfounded.
"This is way fancier than I imagined." Jack replied to himself, then looked at Sue. They looked at each other with wide eyes.
"Jack!"
He looked around, hearing his name being called, yet had no idea where from. He finally spotted Evan walking up the grand stairway to greet them.
"Wow, this is amazing." Jack replied when Evan got closer.
"Yeah, it is, isn't it?" he replied.
Sue looked around to find everyone wearing masks, as they should. She did, however, see that a few of the women had clear masks on, probably because they were too vain to not be shown in public without a mouth or nose. She would try to socialize near there to see if she could catch any one-sided conversation. Luckily, it was near the elaborate buffet.
"ME GO-TO FOOD, OK?" she signed to Jack. He nodded, and she walked down the stairs.
"And I said, no, I need a mani and pedi, pronto, not in a month! Really! The nerve of people. Just because of a silly little bug, people are going crazy." Sue read while she was waiting in line.
"Remind me to not go near her." She quietly whispered to herself. Soon, it was her turn in the line for food. She started taking a few of each, then she got to something she wasn't quite sure what it was. She frowned and looked at it, deciding on if she should take it or not.
"It's squid. Not my favorite, but for some people," A woman said behind her. Sue continued to stare, not realizing someone was talking to her. "Ma'am?" she asked, walking a bit closer.
Sue saw the movement in her peripheral vision. She saw the woman looking at her questioningly. "SORRY ME DEAF." She signed, knowing that she wouldn't know what she said, but it indicated that she couldn't understand.
"COOL! ME KNOW SOME SIGN." The woman replied.
Sue looked at her, surprised. She then gained her composure. "MY NAME SUE." She signed, then gave her namesign.
"MY NAME JENNIFER." The woman signed, then gave her namesign as well.
"NICE MEET YOU"
"NICE MEET YOU."
"YOU HERE HOW?" Jennifer asked as they finished picking through the buffet.
"MY HUSBAND HORSE INVEST. US-TWO MEET MAN, HIS NAME EVAN. HE INVITE US-TWO." Sue explained.
"ME-TOO." Jennifer replied laughing a bit. "MY HUSBAND, US-TWO LOVE HORSE HE LOVE RACING, ME DON'T. ME GO-TO DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT PARTY, WHY? FOR HIM."
"YOU DON'T LIKE RACING WHY?" Sue asked as they sat down at a table nearby.
Jennifer looked away to create her sentence. "HORSE STRUGGLE, STRUGGLE, STRUGGLE. JOCKEY PUSH WHEN HORSE CAN'T CONTINUE. MANY, MANY HOSRE DIE WHY? THIS."
Sue sadly looked at her new friend. She had no idea about this aspect of the racehorse industry.
"WHEN HORSE RUN, JOCKEY PUSH, PUSH. HAPPENS WHAT? HORSE HEART BURST." She continued.
Sue looked at her with wide eyes. "THIS NOT HAPPEN ALWAYS, RIGHT?"
Jennifer shook her head. "NO. IF JOCKEY LISTEN, NICE, KNOW HORSE, THIS HAPPENS NOT. BUT, IF JOCKEY PUSH, PUSH, NOT LISTEN, HAPPEN WILL." She sadly replied.
Sue looked away, shocked. She had no idea. But she was sure Manny wouldn't push their horse, even if it means losing the race. That was better than losing a life.
?-?
"Nice, huh?" Evan said to Jack, who was still looking around.
Jack nodded. "Yeah."
"And I got it all from horse racing." He gloated.
"Really?" Jack played into it.
He nodded. "I take it you and your little wife have invested, and sustained a nice life, right? Nice home, nice cars, nice vacation home, a vacation twice a year,"
Jack nodded. "Pretty close, yeah. We have a nice life."
"But you want more, don't you?"
Jack looked like he was open to the idea.
"How would you like a home like this? In fact, how about three homes like this? Two in the states, and one in Europe? And a few other vacation cabins around? How about your choice of fancy cars, five for each home? How about a vacation once a month to an exotic place? Buying your wife whatever she fancied at that minute, even if it means throwing it out after 15 minutes? Whoever said money wasn't everything was wrong. It is. And I know how to get your hands on loads of it."
"Oh?" Jack asked, very interested.
"There's one catch; to make money, you need to give some up." Evan said, reeling in his prey. "What? You think I'm just going to give you money?" he asked, seeing Jack's slightly skeptical look.
"No, I've got a little bit that I can play with."
"How much?" Evan asked.
"How much do I need?"
"How much do you have?"
"5 thou?" Jack suggested.
Evan laughed. "If you want to peddle pennies the rest of your life, go ahead."
"How much do you suggest?" Jack asked.
"If you want that vacation a month, you need to put in a mil at the minimum."
"A million dollars," Jack said, knowing that the Bureau would probably not give them that much to play with. "I'll see what I can scrounge up."
Evan smiled. "Good. Now, I have someone for you to meet."
