Chapter 39: Charon the scientist

Running into the building was easier with Tank as the diversion and it all is going as planned. With myself being in contact with Glaceon and Sylveon, it makes finding the lake spirits much easier as we cover more ground. Glaceon was searching the 1st floor, the ground floor where storage is, while Sylveon was searching the 2nd floor, a floor that held data as storage units and has a hall for meetings. And I was searching on the 3rd floor where computers were to give imput into data. I put my hand to my ear as I hear Glaceon speaking "1st floor check out and the lake spirits are nowhere to be seen" I sighed as I wonder where they went. i wasn't having much luck on the 3rd floor and knowing my luck, Sylveon wouldn't have much luck either. As I thought that, Sylveon spoke "2nd floor checked out and theres no lake spirits here" it was as I thought but where else can they hide them? I headed to the 4th floor and it was the main room where the boss does his work and has a hall to give the other members order.
Looking around there were doors that lead into a larger room and I continued to look for another way in since something inside told me that going into that room wouldn't help. I noticed to the far side of the room was an elevator that had just 1 button that said basement. I called Glaceon and Sylveon to my side before pushing the button and the doors opened. Inside was yellow and in the shape of a cylinder, enough to fit 3 full grown adults with room to spare and the elevator dropped down to the basement. It opened up to a corridor and had some personal generators powering the basement. The corridor itself was narrower than the others, if I had to guess this place was to lead to the room for storage of small items not massive equipment. We ventured down the corridor as we heard the sound of machines working and as we entered the room at the end of the corridor there was a massive lab with a terminal right at the back. There were computers for analytical data, other equipment to more observational based data recording and 3 glass chambers filled with water. Inside the chamber were the Lake Spirits, unconscious and by the looks of the computer monitors still alive.
I rested my hands on the glass and looked into the chambers then rested my head. Glaceon and Sylveon looked toward me as I felt guilty for letting this happen. Sylveon nudges and tells me "this isn't your fault, you did what you could to protect them" Glaceon nodded in agreement, although they tell me it isn't I know that if I just did something then they wouldn't be here like this. Looking at the computers, I saw they were like the machines at the pokemon centres. They were an advanced life support machines and the glass chambers were filled with a liquid that sustained life while the chambers monitored their vital signs. All of this was high tech and someone smart had to be maintaining this, no matter how well funded they are. As I looked at the computer, we heard foot-steps and a guy in a lab coat and a grin walked past to the terminal speaking
"pretty aren't they? Said to embody the human emotions of emotion, free will and knowledge" I turned to him and watched him walk to the chambers as he continued "my apologies for startling you, my name is Charon the lead scientist here. They hold the essential parts that make living things stay away from primal instinct, wild as it were. But imagine what we could use their power, imagine if the right person used it right, imagine if that person was us here" I closed my eyes and he took that as a sign that I was thinking it over. He grinned "you see how it can benefit not us individually but everyone as a collective, you're one of the few good trainers who understand this" I thought and thought as he tried to convince me what they were doing was good. "instead of fighting us you should be doing everything in your power to help up. Just ignore the officials and GYM leaders and help us"
he stood there patiently as I thought while Glaceon and Sylveon were worried if id turn into a team galactic member. I opened my eyes and he had called out a Golispod and Slowking saying "Slowking, use psychic" the gem on the shell glowed and sent all 3 of use flying back into the narrow corridor. He grinned "I don't think you'd join willingly but it's always nice to have the offer" I got up and looked around before calling out Pikachu and Mimikyu. He was right, I wouldn't allow what he said to be done, for his plan to use such power to work then we'd have to take away the important parts that make us who we are. Having emotions, knowledge and free will is what makes up life and without it, there can be no life. I said to the scientist "I decline the offer and it doesn't matter how noble your cause is, this can't be for the collective when it's like this" I found my resolve and with what I have learnt, it has only fuelled my motivation more. Knowing the people who would help stop this, they'd feel the same way about stopping the greater evil.
Looks like getting Tank to play diversion wasn't fully successful, I'll have to talk to him about this since it was his plan but we did manage to get this far, I best not spoil my chances and lose here. If I do, I'll probably never hear the end of it, I giggle to myself lightly as Charon stared confused as my smile faded. I'm all ready for this battle, now to win.
