Chapter 3:
"Over here!" Ginny yelled across the crowded dining hall, waving Hermione over. Hermione waved and tried to ignore all the looks she was getting as she walked around the tables.
"What is everyone drinking? They just keep staring." Hermione hissed as she sat down next to Ginny.
"You got hot over the summer! Of course people are going to stare!"
"I did not….well maybe." Hermione blushed at the idea that people were finally looking at her but not for being part of the Golden Trio.
"Oh my god, don't look now but Draco is staring at you." Ginny squeaked, blushing enough for the two of them.
"When did he get so fucking hot too?" Ginny said, fake fanning herself. Hermione looked up through her eyelashes at the Slytherin table. Draco was leaning one shoulder against the wall, eating an apple and holding eye contact with her. A little first year was talking his ear off but it was clear that Draco wasn't listening to a word that was being said.
Hermione looked down his body, taking in the sights of his robes being open to show a white t-shirt that was tight enough to show that he was pure muscle. His black jeans were fitted so perfectly that she could have sworn that they were sewn around his body.
Careful, you are starting to drool over there
Hermione suddenly sat up straighter and took a drink of her coffee, while flipping him off that only he could see
Get out of my head.
You know the rules. Now what were you saying about my jeans?
They make you look like you belong in a boy band.
She watched him chuckle and shake his head. He pushed off from the wall and sat down at the table, not even acknowledging the first year that hadn't taken a break from his speech. He sat so he was directly across Hermione, with two tables of students in between them so no one would know that he was still holding eye contact.
You look good today, Granger.
Did I just get a compliment from thee Draco Malfoy? I will have to write home to my mother that I have a new suitor.
Draco couldn't help but let a big laugh out so some people turned to see what he was laughing about. Hermione let out a small smile but immediately went back to a straight face before anyone would stare at her as well.
Granger, you have quite the tongue on you. I wonder what else that tongue can do.
Before Hermione could give a smart ass response to him, Ginny grabbed her arm.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." Ginny repeated over and over, looking into her friend's eyes with panic and fear. Hermione opened her mouth to see what had gotten into her but then she saw.
"Ron! Welcome back buddy!" A third year yelled, greeting Ron as he moved closer to Hermione. She felt her throat closing and her heart started beating faster. She hadn't seen him since he walked out on her at the beginning of summer, to be with Lavender.
She stood up to run towards the nearest exit but it was too late. A freckled covered arm reached out and grabbed her arm, spinning her towards his chest.
"Love, where are you running off to?"
Draco watched as the Weasel grabbed Hermione and he was shocked that he was shut out of her mind. He figured he would still have access because of her anger towards him. His eyes narrowed as he tried to focus on killing Ron in the middle of the dinning hall.
Hermione clutched her chest, she couldn't breathe. She stared into Ron's eyes but she couldn't hear anything past her pounding heart. She could see his mouth moving but nothing was coming out.
DRACO
Draco completely jumped out of his skin at the sudden yelling in his head. He started immediately walking towards Hermione, holding his wand.
What's wrong, love?
I can't breathe, I can't breathe.
Ok love. Hold on. Focus. What did you do on the train?
WHAT?
Draco almost grabbed his head from the pounding headache that she was creating. Why didn't this spell have a volume button?
Darling, you have to stop yelling so I can help you. On the train, you got rid of my voice. What did you do?
I practiced spells in my mind.
Do that love. Focus on the spells. Focus on what homework you are excited to have this year. You are having a panic attack so you need to distract yourself.
Hermione closed her eyes and focused on what Draco had said. Slowly, her heart started to relax and she could start to hear the world around her again.
"...and that's why I decided to come back." Suddenly she could hear Ron again. He was still holding her and she could see Draco coming up behind him.
"Weasel!" Draco yelled, wand was drawn. Ron let go of Hermione and spun around.
"What the fuck do you want?" Ron said, reaching for his wand. "I have been here for two seconds!"
"Do I need a reason to hurt you?" Draco hissed, he watched as Hermione ran out of the dining hall while Ron was distracted. "You just breathing the same air as me is enough of a reason."
"Do you have anything better to do?"
"Nah, but it's only the first day." As they got ready to duel, Professor McGonagall came into the dining hall. They both immediately lowered their wands and the dining hall resumed their usual volume level.
Hermione ran down the hall to where her first class was scheduled to be but she was too early. She slid down the wall to sit on the floor outside the room.
She couldn't believe it. She had just asked Draco for help, except it was more like yelled for help.
"There you are!" Harry said, throwing his hands up as he rushed towards Hermione. "Ginny told me to find you after you ran from Ron."
"I'm fine. Thank you." She whispered, focused on her hands as Harry slid down next to her on the floor. Before she could stop herself, she started to think of how nice it was that Harry was with her alone.
Seriously, does he have a golden dick or something?
Draco's voice immediately came through her mind but she tried to focus on what Harry was saying.
"I didn't know he was coming, cross my heart!" Harry promised, mimicking a cross over his heart to show her.
As if he is a trustworthy person, aren't they like best mates? Love, where are you?
"I know you would have told me, Harry." Hermione said, it was more directed to the voice in her head but it worked both ways.
"Are you going to be ok?" Harry asked, worried about his best friend.
"Yeah, I just have to get used to having him around again." She said, shrugging. Other students started to arrive and Professor Snape opened the classroom door.
Or, hear me out, I could kill him.
Harry stood up and reached down to Hermione to help her up. She took his hand and pushed herself off the ground. She started to dust herself off when Harry grabbed her hand and moved his head so their eyes were locked.
"Are you sure that you are ok?" When he asked that, all Hermione could think about was the tattoo and the spell.
"Yea I will be fine." She said and Harry kissed her forehead. He walked into the classroom and Hermione stopped to fix her hair. Right before she took a step forward, there was a chill that ran down her spine as she felt someone behind.
"Am I going to have to kill Harry and Ron to make it clear that you are mine?"
"Don't lay a spell on either of them." She said, trying to step forward but his arm wrapped around her waist, his mouth pressed against her ear.
"I protect what is mine."
"Ok class, pair up. I don't care who but work on the first potion in your workbook." Professor Snape announced. The class jumped to their feet and moved about, being partners. Hermione started to move towards Harry but was suddenly yanked down to an empty stool.
"Granger! How long has it been?!" Blaise grinned at her as she looked for Harry. He was talking to Neville as they collected the ingredients for the potion. She made sure to be extra careful not to think how disappointed she was about Harry, she was finally enjoying the silence in her mind.
"It's been at least a whole summer." Hermione said, looking at Blaise. She realized that she was surrounded by boys, mostly from Slytherin. They all looked at her as if they wished that they had x-ray vision glasses on to see through her robes.
"Wanna be partners?" Blaise asked, already getting the potion ready without waiting for an answer.
"Umm, excuse me?"
"What's up?" Blaise looked at her, confused by her own confused look.
"You have barely talked to me since we started school seven years ago plus aren't Slytherin supposed to stick to their own?" She crossed her arms but immediately uncrossed when some of the boys leaned closer to look down her robe.
"I'm sorry but if your name is Granger or Blaise, get fucking lost." A dark voice shouted, making the group scatter. Draco pulled up a stool, a pretty sixth year girl following him.
"Honey, how about you get started? If you have problems, ask literally anyone else for help?" He gave directions without even looking at her. The girl ran off to get the ingredients, probably just happy that Draco was even talking to her. Hermione just shook her head and looked over at Harry. He looked back at her and gave a small shrug, Draco stiffened at the interaction.
"Sooo?" Blaise asked again, waving the potion under her nose.
"Fine. But you need to learn how to ask like a gentleman." Hermione sighed and started working on the portion.
"I mean he only has to ask like a gentleman if he is talking to a lady." She bristled at Draco's response. Just because she asked him for help once did not mean they were conversation buddies.
"Can you even spell gentleman?" She hissed at him, making Blaise laugh.
"Honey, I am the definition of gentleman." Draco calmly responded back to her, ignoring his friend's head that was bouncing back and forth like a tennis match. He was annoyed that Blaise was here at all but he had to keep a reputation to keep up.
"Funny, I thought I saw Draco Malloy as the definition for Jackass."
"I'm sorry, darling, that's correct. Because I remember seeing Granger as the definition Smartass. But you looked good under me." He said, smirking at her small shudder at the reference to being under him. As soon as she stopped shuddering, he got access to her mind.
Watch it, love, you might get the floor wet with how wet you are getting.
Fuck off. I didn't even think of you!
Your mind says otherwise.
Hermione growled in her mind, she needed to do deeper research into how to get rid of this spell.
"So, Blaise, how was your summer?" Hermione tried to distract herself but Draco just chuckled and started slowly cutting the root that had been next him. She couldn't help but look over at him while Blaise talked on and on about his trip to America.
She watched as his arms slightly flexed with every movement of the knife, the veins in his arms showing just enough that made her mouth a little dry.
There is that drool again.
Hermione growled again but then she got an idea in her head. If she couldn't beat him, then she could just torture him.
Draco, I have a question.
Say my name with a small moan and we will talk.
She rolled her eyes and asked Blaise a vague question to keep him talking so she could focus on the more important conversation.
Can you read everything in my mind?
Only if it is about other men or myself. I think women as well will work but not 100% sure.
Hermione just smiled and stared at the potion as she started picturing Blaise fucking her from behind on Draco's bed. She wasn't attracted to Blaise but it started to do the trick.
Suddenly Draco's knife handle broke in half as he sat in anger. His partner tried to get his attention but all he could focus on was the sex story playing in his head. He couldn't believe that he was falling right into her trap but this was a negative effect of the spell, he couldn't leave her mind if he wanted to. She was extremely detailed and he was filled with such anger and jealousy that he didn't notice that his hand had started clutching around the blade.
"DRACO" Blaise yelled, finally breaking his friend's attention. The table was covered in blood and there was a long cut down his palm. Hermione stopped her sex daydreaming when she noticed that he was bleeding a lot.
You….fucking…...witch!
Hermione just laughed in her head at his yelling. That experiment was a complete success.
Don't read my thoughts and this wouldn't be a problem.
"Malfoy, go to the nurse! NOW!" Professor Snape yelled, making Draco jump up and hurry out the door. Snape waved his wand and the blood disappeared along with the destroyed knife.
"Literally one day. First day and we have an accident." He hissed to himself as the class resumed, still whispering about what had happened to the usually calm Draco Malfoy.
