Placing: Ten years after Chapter 55
O-o-O-o-O-o-O-o-O Remembrance O-o-O-o-O-o-O-o-O
Blue eyes grazed the auditorium slowly. She wasn't sure why but it suddenly looked bigger than all those years ago. She eyed the stage wearily remembering the last time her eyes had been set on it, the day she had been denied her crown. In a way she supposed she could have also called that the day of her downfall. The day of her biggest mistake.
Sure she hadn't been the most popular girl anymore that day, but she thought she had it all. Her loving boyfriend was still at her side along with her friends, didn't they say those were the bonds that mattered.
What a fool she was. What people said was true, the popular people in high school fool themselves into thinking they were always going to be important. That they were always going to matter. That they were always going to have the things they wanted.
The vibration from her phone made her look away from the stage and she dug into her jumpsuits pocket to read the message that had come through. When she looked back up she headed towards the refreshment table. She looked down at the drink offered to her and took a sip, looking up in the process. What she saw made the drink spill out of her mouth.
Ten years and he hadn't changed at all. The auburn locks were a little shorter, no longer kissing his shoulders but his dark brown eyes were the same. Oddly enough so was his build. His jeans hugged him just right, hard edges protruded from his black shirt and his blue jacket hid lean arms that had formed when he was known as the mvp.
He still seemed like a god among their classmates. Much like the first time she had noticed his charm and knew he would be the perfect pawn to get here where she wanted to be their senior year.
She couldn't look away from him, finding him even more handsome as he smiled, threw back his head and laughed. This caught her attention and her eyes went to the spot besides him to see who was bringing him that much joy.
It was a blond with shoulders broader than she remembered. She eyed Warren Worthington carefully following his form which eventually merged into another figure. She had dark raven hair that went way past her waist, petite in size except for a protruding belly. It wasn't until the woman turned that she recognized her. It seemed Elizabeth ended up getting what she wanted.
Other than them he was alone. This made her heart give a slight flutter. Maybe...
Maybe...
Maybe...
Her mind kept repeating the word. She looked away from the trio and looked down at herself making sure she looked presentable as she made up her mind. Maybe...that day hadn't been the end of everything. Or maybe it was but today, today could be the day when everything is set right.
Her thoughts were suddenly broken when someone who she hadn't noticed was standing besides her, spoke.
"That's unfortunate...how did that happen?"
Her eyes widened at hearing the accent. She had not been expecting to ever hear that accent again. Her head quickly turned to the side, the woman besides her was looking at a different direction from where Remy LeBeau stood. The emerald green eyes gazed at an overdressed duo hiding at a far corner.
The woman of the pair was in a white dress, a huge fur coat draped around her shoulders, white knee high boots finishing her over the top for the event asamble. Her golden hair glistened in the light. The male had an arm wrapped around her waist holding her close. He wore a blue dress jacket, matching pants and the stupid red shades he had long ago made his trademark.
"What are you doing here?" She found herself asking, doing her best to ignore the couple she was watching.
Without turning to her she answered, "Ah'm the plus one."
She eyed the two toned woman wearily. She wore a revealing burgundy blazer jacket that made it obvious she was not wearing anything under and dark jeans that hugged her curves nicely. The light above them shone on them brightly making the accessory on her finger momentarily blind her. After eyeing the golden band her eyes darted back to the Auburn haired man across the room. Her eyes found his hand finding that she had indeed missed the ring the first time she had looked him over.
Her lips parted to speak, even though she had no idea what she was planning to say but before any words could be uttered her phone vibrated again making her look down at her hand. The phone recognized her face immediately unlocking and bringing up the picture that has just been sent to her.
The dread and dismay that has momentarily washed over her became lighter and she allowed herself a small smile.
"She's beautiful."
She glanced back at her unexpected drink mate who was looking at her phone too.
"Thank you." She answered and turned back to the picture of a small red haired girl hugging a beat up teddy bear. "She's my world..." she heard herself mumble.
"Yeah, ah know the feeling. How old?"
"...eight."
There was a whistle, "Yah guys didn't waste any tiahme did yah? She's his?"
She watched the girl turn and give a quick glance back towards the far corner of the room and not knowing why she was even entertaining this conversation with this certain individual nonetheless she answered with a whispered yes.
"Guess that goes tah show that somethang beautiful can come out of somethang ugly."
Her eyes narrowed and her mouth opened to retort the comment but she was interrupted.
"Ah'm talking about yah're failed relationship not yahr looks. Yah actually look really good considering it's been ten years..."
Her mouth opened like a fish out of water. She had been the brightest student in her grade, she knew she was a smart educated woman even now but words we're failing her at the moment at the unexpected compliment from her former enemy.
"Can't say the same forh him if yah want me tah be honest," she watched Anna turn back across the room to look at Scott Summers, her ex husband, her ex best friend, her ex everything.
The southern girl then shook her head after witnessing their ex lover hugging her ex best friend and turned to her instead.
"Ah wouldn't worry about it. He did it to meh, he did it yah, he'll eventually do it tah her."
"Yeag, you're probably right," she had finally found her voice.
Anna nodded in agreement before starting to step away from her, "Well, ah hope yah a good night." And with that she made her way back to her party.
She followed her until she reached Remy Lebeau. He had already seemed happy enough but the moment his eyes found her they brightened even more. The smirk he had been throwing at Warren widened and when she finally reached them his arms wrapped around her and brought her close. As he looked at her she knew that at the moment they didn't see anyone else around them, it was only them.
His head dipped down towards her and Jean finally looked away before contact was made. Her eyes found the stage again.
'No, their prom night hadn't been the day everything went wrong,' she thought to herself and turned back to the duo she had been avoiding all night. Her eyes meet the deep red colored shades facing her way. Scott quickly looked away being the coward that he was and she gave a bitter smile before throwing what was left of her drink in a trash can nearby.
'It was the day I fell for you,' she thought to herself looking away from the pair and making her way out of the auditorium.
O-o-O-o-O-o-O-o-O End O-o-O-o-O-o-O-o-O
I really like the idea that Anna is just the bigger person after all that time. So it doesn't bother her to go talk to Jean and even compliment her. In the end there's no point in holding a grudge with her, after all she got everything she could have wanted and in reality it's all thanks to Jean and Scott's affair. Haha I was kinda sad to make Scott cheat cause even though I made them hella jerky in this fic I am a Jott shipper, but I felt that it was fitting.
Also none of the others are here cause I wanted it to be Remy's reunion since it had to be in Jean's pov and of course everyone else was in a different grade so It wouldn't have made sense. I did have a moment where I envisioned Pietro and John wanting to crash the party but then it took an angsty dramatic turn and I didn't think that was appropriate anymore XD
Anyhoo, thanks for reading and hope this was ok. Let me know what you think and if you'd like feel free to drop a prompt :) Stay safe you guys!
