Abbess Vale led the three Dazzlings to a room with a triple bunk bed. "The three of you can sleep in here," she said. "I'll leave you to get settled in."
As soon as the Abbess left, Adagio, the mouse, leaped into the air, bounced off Sonata the otter's head, and landed on the top bunk.
"Hey, why do you get the top bunk?" Sonata complained, rubbing her head.
"Yeah, I want to sleep on top," said Aria, the squirrel.
"I'm the oldest of us all, so I get to pick first," Adagio said snottily.
"Okay," Aria grumbled. "But the bureau closest to the light is mine."
"I wanted that one!" Sonata cried. "But I'm going to choose my own dresser first."
She started toward one of the dressers in the room, but Adagio jumped down from the bed and reached it ahead of her. "Ha-ha!" she laughed. "Beat you!"
"No fair!" Sonata wailed. Then she looked over at the window. "I'm going to open that window!" she said.
"No, me!" said Aria.
"I want to!" said Adagio.
They all dived for the window and crashed into each other. They started wrestling on the floor. As they fought, their bodies began to change. They turned from a mouse, a squirrel, and an otter into their true forms. They looked something like ponies, but they had dragon-like wings and fishlike tails. They were Sirens, evil beasts that fed off the negative energy of other creatures.
Abbess Vale came back and started banging on the door. "Is everything all right in there?"
The Sirens turned back into animals and sat down on the bed just as she opened the door. They smiled sweetly at her. "Everything's fine," they said in unison.
"Okay. Just let me know if you need anything." The Abbess backed out of the room and closed the door behind her.
As soon as she was gone, they all started fighting again.
