It was Day 3 of the Battle of the Bands.
"Maybe I should be the one who sings this time," said Samkim.
"Why mess with a good thing?" Rainbow Dash asked. "I've always been the lead singer at all our performances."
"You play your flute so beautifully, Samkim," said Mara. "It helps the rest of us stay on the beat."
"Burr aye, ee band wouldn't be ee same without yore flute playin'," said Arula.
Samkim sighed. "Fine."
Joshy cleared his throat. "Ahem. Ladies an' gentlebeasts, I have composed a super song which I believe will win us the day, wot wot."
Rainbow Dash stared at him. "But we've already been practicing the song I wrote. We don't have time to learn a new one."
Mara could see that Joshy was upset. "It's okay, Joshy. Maybe we can do your song tomorrow."
"Oi hope they'm don't shine ee light on Oi again," Arula fretted.
Mara smiled. "Don't worry, Arula. If they do, just stand behind me."
First to take the stage that night were Faith Spinney and Sister Nasturtium. Faith played her hogalino as the Sister sang.
Then it was the Rainbooms' turn.
"I'm awesome!
Take caution!
Watch out for me,
I'm awesome as I wanna be!" Rainbow Dash sang over and over. After a few verses of that, she started jamming on her guitar. The crowd started to cheer.
Joshy was jealous of the attention Rainbow Dash was getting. He decided to put a magic spell on his drums to make them twice as big. Now his drums were louder than her guitar. Rainbow Dash didn't like that, so she held her guitar right up to her microphone, drowning out the sounds of the other instruments. Samkim also started playing his flute louder. The Rainbooms didn't sound as good now that they were trying to outdo each other.
But when they were done playing, Abbess Vale still pronounced them the winners.
There was only one other challenge that night. The Dazzlings competed against a band comprised of Friar Bellows and a few mice that worked with him in the kitchen. The Dazzlings won easily. Now the only bands left in the contest were the Dazzlings and the Rainbooms.
