When they got back to the gates of Redwall, they could hear music playing and the crowd making a lot of noise.
"They must have started without us," said Mara.
"But how can that be? We're the mane event," said Rainbow Dash.
"There's no time to lose," said Twilight. "We've gotta get in there."
Samkim knocked on the door. Tudd Spinney opened it. "Samkim? What are you and your friends doing out here? You almost would've had to forfeit the contest."
"Never mind," said Samkim. "We need to get inside and get our instruments."
"You better hurry," said Tudd as they all raced past him.
They caught a glimpse of the stage as they rushed toward the main Abbey building. The Dazzlings were up there, playing electric guitars that were all hooked up to one big amplifier. The Rainbooms raced inside to get their instruments.
The Dazzlings sang:
"Welcome to the show
We're here to let you know
Our time is now
Your time is running out
Feel the wave of sound
As it crashes down
You can't turn away
We'll make you wanna sta-a-a-ay
We will be adored
Tell us that you want us
We won't be ignored
It's time for our reward
Now you need us
Come and heed us
Nothing can stop us now!"
The Abbeybeasts hung on their every word. The Dazzlings smirked to each other as they played. They knew they had all of Redwall under their control.
All of a sudden, they were interrupted by another song playing. It was the Rainbooms! They were standing behind the audience, and they had a new lead singer: Twilight Sparkle. The animals all turned to watch the new band.
Twilight sang:
"Don't need to hear a crowd
Cheering out my name
I didn't come here seeking
Infamy or fame
The one and only thing
That I am here to bring
Is music, is the music
Is the music in my soul
Gonna break out (Out!)
Set myself free, yeah
Let it all go (Go!)
Just let it be, yeah
Find the music in your heart
Let the music make you start
To set yourself apart."
Everybeast started cheering for the Rainbooms. But the Dazzlings weren't going down without a fight. They played even louder.
"What we have in store
All we want and more
We will break on through
Now it's time to finish you!"
The Sirens turned back into their monster forms. Everybeast was frozen in place, even the Rainbooms! Thunderclouds rumbled across the sky as a storm began. It looked like the Dazzlings were truly about to win the Battle of the Bands.
Then suddenly a bolt of lightning struck the highest tower of the Abbey and a sword came flying down from the sky. It buried itself in the Dazzlings' amplifier, and the amplifier instantly short-circuited!
The Sirens immediately turned back into regular animals again. They tried to keep playing their guitars, but playing an unamplified electric guitar is like strumming on a picnic table. They didn't sound nearly as good and their spell over the inhabitants of Redwall was broken.
"Hey, you're not animals at all!" Thrugg cried. "You're monsters!"
"You've been controlling us all this whole time!" said Abbess Vale. "You're the evil Martin the Warrior warned us about!"
Adagio put on her most winning smile. "Us? We're not evil."
"We saw what you turned into," said Faith Spinney. "You can't fool us again."
Twilight flew over the heads of the crowd and flapped over to them. "When will you learn? Your magic always fails against the magic of friendship!"
"Curse you, Twilight Sparkle!" the Sirens all roared together. Then they all disappeared.
"I don't think they'll come back to Redwall anytime soon," Twilight said confidently.
Abbess Vale went over to the Rainbooms. "You have saved us all. You are true heroes of Redwall."
"That's what I always wanted to be," said Samkim.
Brother Hal, the mouse who was Abbey Recorder, asked, "What was it that crashed into their infernal machine?"
Rainbow Dash flew over to the stage and pulled the sword out of the amplifier. "Looks like a big sword."
"That's the sword of Martin the Warrior!" gasped Brother Hal.
Joshy said, "It's almost as if it was Martin himself who delivered the final thrust against the Sirens, wot wot."
Twilight turned to Rainbow Dash. "Well, I think our work here is done."
"I think you're right," said Rainbow Dash.
"Hurr, don't go!" Arula sobbed. "Oi hate goodbyes!"
Rainbow Dash flew over to her and put a hoof on her shoulder. "It's not goodbye forever, kid. Just goodbye for now."
"You're the best friend a badger could have, Rainbow Dash," said Mara.
"Thanks," said Rainbow Dash. "I'm glad you found a home, Mara."
She and Twilight flew off into the night, as the Redwallers waved goodbye to them.
THE END
