The Hilltop - a mindscape

mmm how i love the piano soundtracks of season 1. I love the vibe so much!

September 17th 2009

Woodcrest Hill, Maryland

It had been 4 years since the Freeman's moved in to the white suburban area. They had met more people on the way, like a certain mulatto and her parents that had moved in across the street from DC not long after they had. The family were like polar opposites to their own but both quickly became close, huey gaining friendship in the honey-blonde haired mulatto daughter of the family.

When they first met, huey instantly knew that she was somewhat black but unfortunately she didn't; she was always in doubt and just wanted to be referred to as a person, much like one of hueys mixed friends back in chicago. She said she didn't want to pick one, that she wanted to embrace both but ended up favouring her white side as her mum, her idol at the time, was white. She wanted to permanently straighten her hair much to hueys dismay.

Being a black activist, he hated when people of colour put themselves down to fit the European beauty standards when they could just embrace their African heritage, so he talked her out of it. Over time, she has been embracing it more thanks to the help of the afro headed boy, but she still had a lot to work on with her insecurities as she really was treated differently. Huey was always by her side though, teasing her when he thought it was funny yet standing up for her when someone else tried to upset her.

As much as huey didn't want to admit, they are very best friends, her talking about her insecurities and him talking about his revolutionary ways. But they would always listen, help and learn from each other no matter how eherm, blunt they would come across (yea i'm talking to you huey).

A few months after she had moved in, his now current male best friend Michael Caesar also came to join the crew. He was a dark skinned jamaican boy with shoulder length dreads and a whole lotta charm; oh and yo mamma jokes. Now, caesar is a goofball, he finds the optimistic things out of bad situations and jokes about them. He can be anyone's friend, he's very social and puts smiles on anyone's faces, much like Jazmine. He's practically a mix of her and Huey as he also likes to talk about world issues and do revolutionary stuff like his fellow friend. Huey suprisingly appreciates him very much, he's just a simple young boy from brooklyn waiting on fufilling a life long dream, he's got big plans for the bars he spits.

Now, this makes them The Golden Trio, as jazmine and caesar agreed to call it, huey not bothering to have an input as he unsurprisingly found it rather stupid. Their main hub was a tall hill with a breathtaking view of the city below. This hill harboured many memories of the trio, being a spot to relax and clear your mind, to think, to vent, to cry or to simply just chill.

It was perfect for them as the view provided a calm vibe and the old oak tree was a rare part of the city sir wuncler hadn't touched, and hopefully wasn't going to anytime soon. It was practically theirs, they claimed it with signatures, Caesar carving 'dreadz is ma thang ~ Caez', riley calling that gay and putting 'Young Reezy in dese streets! ~ R. Esco' below it followed by cindy putting 'C-Murph up in dis beezy, peace!' (she goes up there once in a blue moon along with riley) and Jazmine signing for both herself and huey as he didn't wanna do it 'Jazzy fresh with the afro puffs Big Hue, the afro-samurai' the names obviously requested by caesar.

Speaking of which, this hill is where the three we're currently located, U.N.I.T.Y by Queen Latifa softly playing in the background (courtesy to caesars boombox he brought up for some unknown reason)

"Will never know why riley put 'dese' instead of 'these' on his tag, I mean, it sounds okay when you say it but it just don't look right when you write it" Caesar spoke, tracing his finger across the words they carved a few years prior. "Neither, it was probably his dyslexia acting up, not that it's surprising."

Caesar looked back at his rather nonchalant friend and deadpanned "I don't even think dyslexia has got anything to do with it huey." The mocha skinned boy only shrugged and turned a page of his book "He is a spac though" he replied

"Hey that's rude Huey!" Jazmine, who was sitting on the other side of Huey swatted him in the arm. "He is just 'specially abled' that's all"

Huey snorted "If he heard you say that right now, you wouldn't hear the end of it."

"Yea that's true, i think 'Learning-deficient' is more suitable, even though he won't come to terms with it" Caesar added, deep in calving something on the bark. Huey rolled his eyes "Your just trying to sound word smart. And yea i guess, he likes to deny his disabilities Considering he has 2"

"What do you mean?" Jazmine sat up slightly, looking at her afro headed friend.

"Don't you remember? He has ADHD, along with your 'bestie' Cindy" He practically spat her name like it was some foreign venom off his tongue. That girl knew how to irk his nerves by pestering him about her fascination with black people all day. He wondered how Jazmine put up with her.

"Really? Huh, no wonder he's always hyper active" Jazmine shrugged then brought her knees up to her chest.

"Two...thousand...aaaand...fiivee. Done!" The dread head jumped up from his spot and put his hands on his hips in a non feminine way, admiring his work.

"Caesar, why are you acting like you just did sumn, all you put was 2005"

"Why'd you put 2005? it's 2009 right now" Jazmine asked curiously.

"It's the year we claimed this tree! Boondocks gang fo'eva!" Caesar replied, plonking down next to huey. Jazmine giggled and huey shook his head. He ain't wrong tho.

They really were living in the boondocks ;)

"Damn, this sunset never gets old" Caes put his elbows on his knees while his legs were arched in front of him for support and began bopping his head to the beat.

"Yea, it's beautiful, I wish i could just pack this whole hill in a bag and take it wherever i go. You can see the whole city! Shops, everyones houses- Ooo you guys heard about somebody new moving in just over there?" Jazmine pointed towards their side of the town. Huey and caesar snapped their heads towards her. It's not as if people don't move in, it's just people don't normally move in on their side of the town; for uhh...reasons-thefreemans-who said that? "For real?" "Word?" They simultaneously answered.

"Yea, word has been going round saying it's a black girl and her mom" Huey raised a brow "More black people? huh, neat."

Caesar smirked and rubbed his hands together slyly "Ooo, looks like imma swipe me a little sumn sumn ya dig?" Huey rolled his eyes "Calm yourself Caes, your 14. Whachu doin in a relationship?"

"Well i am quite the charm Huey, yeealready know nobody can resist me, not even my ex girlfriend alicia keys, she took it hard when i broke up with her" Jazmine laughed and huey snorted. Caesar plays too much, and is a drama queen when he wants to be. "Aand, if she a chocolate goddess like me- "like you?" Huey raised a brow and in return was lighty pushed by his friend "Man you know what i meant! I meant God, as in male- you know what whatever i call dibs doe"

Huey only shrugged, holding his hands up in the air almost like in defence "Nobody was fighting you anyway."

As much as huey did always imagine himself finding interest in a black girl, if her were to even ever focus on those kind of things, he became more lenient on his type, he no longer cared who he would potentially date. But still, it wasn't his main concern; he had more important things to do like uhh...be a revolutionary obviously?? duhh. Who the fuck cares about relationships right now, he's fucking four-teen! What relevance would a relationship add apart from the fact that it will be more awkward around your supposed 'other'. It's just a big waste of time.

"-but like yo-yo, ya don't hear me doe

you wear a rag around your head,

and you call yourself a gangsta-"

Caesar soon began rapping along to the song subconsciously

"Those saxophones really bring the song together" Jazmine thought aloud.

"Yea true. Wanna hear ma bars doe? they don't call me drizzy wit' da rhymes for nuthn" He boasted, pressing pause on the music playing.

"Who the fuck calls you that?" Huey stated Jazmine laughed in the background. Caesar shot him a glare "Shuddup Hater! just listen. eherm, Check it...

Ask somebody if you don't know,

that Caesars rocking mics like Huey rocks the afro,

and flow like a thug look mean,

you can't see Caesar with a quart of 'visine' or psychic dreams,

"BROOKLYN!! WHAT?! STILL the freestyle rhyme champion of Woodcrest!!" Caesar proclaimed throwing both his fists in the air to mark his victory.

"Caesar that wasn't a freestyle. But for what it's worth, it was pretty good" Huey said, rolling his eyes with a small smirk. Jazmine was giggling in the background "Yea Caes, you could go places with that"

"Yeaaa! in 10 years, you guys gonna hear me on the radio or even MTV!" Hueys face visibly cringed on hearing MTV "Cmon huey, you gotta admit, every big artist is on MTV"

"Yea but that doesn't mean i like it" Huey leant back on to the tree.

"Whatever, Riley would be proud you used that Nas guys style, isn't that the guy riley got Escobar from?" Jazmine asked.

"Yea, Riley would do anything to get on those 'streets'" They all laughed looking straight into the sunset.

Just like any other day.

I use many references to the boondocks comic strip. If you know, you know :)

I tried with the other half of caesars rap, but i'm no artist
