Chapter 4
Jaune was again lost for words and this time he couldn't completely blame Nora for that, after all he was talking to the Headmaster of the most famous Huntsman academy of all kingdoms. So again the only thing that got out from his mouth was a "Huh?" that made Ozpin chuckle.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, you must be thinking how do I know about you" That definitely was on Jaune's mind and now that his brain was working overtime he was a little freak out "Fret not I just know about you because the camera on the scroll of Mr. Lie Ren, you see, when the aura of a hunter in training drop to a certain percentage, their scroll send an alert and start recording in case the worst happens"
Jaune thought about that and decided to give the headmaster the benefit of the doubt, but he'll have an eye open if he sees something creepier that it should be.
"Yeah right, it's a pleasure to meet you too Headmaster, what can I do to help you?" Jaune have to admit that he was really curious about what the headmaster of "The" school could possibly want with him
"Actually i'm glad you asked that, but first I have to ask, are you the one that been helping outside settlements for the last 2 years?" That got Jaune's attention, he understood that the headmaster was a very well connected man but to know about him, helping the outside settlements was a complete surprise "By the look on your face I can tell that you're the one, first of all please allow me to thank you for everything you've done to help people Mr. Arc" Ozpin said while bowing a little his head
"Please don't thank me, I was just doing what any person should" said Jaune while scratching his head, Ozpin just smiled
"Well then, Mr. Arc I must ask for your help" Ozpin face turned more serious "a few miles away from your position another team have encountered a big pack of Grimm, in their own words, the biggest pack of Grimm they've ever seen, team PNR and other team stationed here on Beacon have been already informed about this and they're about to move to help the other team, I would like to request your help, after watching the surveillance camera of Mr. Lie I can tell that your help would be something invaluable"
After hearing that Jaune knew what his next step would be, if this pack of Grimm is as big as they said they would need all the help they could get
"Of course Headmaster, you got yourself another pair of hands" Jaune was happy maybe this was the closest he'll ever be to be an official huntsman "I just need to get my stuffs and we can move in a few minutes" he told team PNR who nodded in return
"I thank you again Mr. Arc, please get to the point as soon as possible" Jaune nodded and turned to run to the inn for his stuff "And Mr. Arc after this mission I would like to talk to you again, in person if possible" that make him stop and look over his shoulder, meet him in person that meant get inside Vale so he really didn't thought it would be possible but nether less he nodded and left.
They were on the bullhead provided by Beacon, preparing themselves for the battle that was about to start.
"I have 2 questions if you don't mind Pyrrha" Jaune said while checking his sword and pouches where he stored his dust for Umbra "Do you know who the other two teams that we're helping are? And isn't only three teams a little too risky if this Grimm pack is as big as they say?
"We know the team that requested is team RWBY, good friends of us actually, but we don't know what team was sent from Beacon" Pyrrha said while looking at the window of the airship "And about your second question-"the cheerful Nora interrupted Pyrrha
"We're like the top 2 teams of our Year Jaune-Jaune! We could be the number one but being only a three man team makes it really difficult; we keep wining in our eating pancakes battles but-"Now it was Nora's turn to be interrupted by a Hand, Ren's Hand
"What Nora is trying to say, is that we're really capable teams and with a third team on its way from Beacon we should be enough to eliminate the Grimm, but I'm glad to have your help Jaune, honestly that makes me feel more secure of our success" Ren said while smiling at Jaune who returned the smile and nod
"I don't like how close they're in so little time Pyrrha" whispered Nora after she freed herself from Ren's Hand "Is this the beginning of a bromance?" Pyrrha couldn't help bug giggle at his Teammate
"I don't know Nora But after 3 Years being surrounded by two teams of just women, I think Ren needs a male friend" Pyrrha said while watching Nora Pout, she was about to say something more when they heard an explosion in the distance "The battle has begun! Prepare to jump!" Pyrrha ordered
In a second the four of them were at the door of the bullhead ready to jump, Jaune could see the explosions know, it seems that they had heavy hitters on other team too "I'm going first! You three work as a unit and i'm accustomed to fight alone so we'll be a hindrance to each other, I'll start with the ones on the outside part of the pack, see you in a bit!" Receiving a nod and concerned looks from them he jumped.
When he landed the first thing he saw after the dust cleared was a pair of Fangs attached to a big ass white snake "What an awful welcome" he dodged to the side and used an air dust infused slash to decapitate the monster, by just instinct he jumped the attack of the angry black snake that's at the other end "How that even work! Man I wish I could stayed on school, wait I shouldn't be asking this kind of questions in the middle of a fight" on his descend he plunged his sword on the head of the black snake
He looked in front of him and he could honestly say that it was the biggest pack he'd ever seen "They weren't joking, well lets the hunt start, I think I can let myself go wild a little" With that thought in mind he let the curse and his aura spread around him "Come on Jaune remember what Grandpa said, This power is yours, destiny be dammed, if you use that power for good, it doesn't matter where it comes from" Jaune opened his now Green eyes andin a flash the hunt begun.
Ruby Rose, Leader of the most powerful team on her year, youngest leader on the history of Beacon Academy, a prodigy in the art of the combat with a scythe and in her humble opinion one of the best weapon mechanics on Remnant, can and will gladly admit that she bitted more than she could chew
The orders of Ozpin were to wait for the helping teams but honestly she reluctantly could say that, their position of best team of her Year got on her head, and she decided to start the attack with only her team, yeah a pretty bad idea, now they were running around trying to get space from the gigantic Grimm pack
"How did I allowed you to start the attack on the pack is beyond me!" Her trusty partner and best friend Weiss yelled behind her while shooting fire dust bombs with her Glyphs.
"I'm sorry! I thought we could start reducing their numbers before our friends get here!" The reaper cried
"It's ok Rubes we just need to keep running and shooting" his Sister Yang said while discharging shotgun blasts
"Yeah, the other teams should be close we just need to keep moving!" the silent Faunus and resident Ninja of team RWBY yelled, Ruby was about to say something when three Boarbatusk appeared in front of them
"DODGE!" The leader yelled while dodging the powerful rolling attacks from the Grimm, but that moment was all the Grimm behind them needed to almost catch them "We need to scatter! We'll see each other on the dropping zone! I'll take the longest way, i'm the fastest here, now move!"
Not hearing the screams of complain of her team she used her semblance to take the right path "Ok I hope they find the other teams soon, why would I screw up like this why!" Ruby really felt bad about putting her team on this situation "I should have known better, but now it's not the time I need to regroup and end this mission" she kept using her semblance until she felt her aura dip under 50% "I should have enough distance know to reach them running"
She kept running at a steady pace when something caught her eye, she and her team haven't been on this part of the forest, "there is a lot of signs of battle here" around her threes with holes and slashes, some of them cut down completely "Just what the dust happened here, this is not even close to the dropping zone of the other teams!"
She was getting closer to the designated spot to meet her team and the sight around her was getting weirder, now the forest not only had signs of battle, dozens and dozens of Grimm were turning into black smoke! "Someone has being killing the Grimm of the farthest part of the pack!"
She entered a small clearing and her eyes widened at the sight in front of her, someone was moving fast, like Ruby Rose using her semblance fast, and that someone was cutting Grimm down like hot knife on butter! An enormous Beringel appeared out of nowhere, punching through Grimm and trees trying to reach the person
"What is a Beringel doing here!? I need to help" she was about to use her semblance to help the person killing all the Grimm, but she was too late the Beringel was already with its fist on the air just above the person, she closed her eyes not wanting to see the person getting punched
A big wave of force made her stumble a little and when she opened her eyes again she couldn't help but gawk at what she was witnessing, first of all now that she was closer she now could see that the person was indeed a boy and secondly he was stopping the punch of the Beringel with one hand! "He must be as strong as Yang with her semblance fully charged!" Then this boy pulled the Beringel and plunged his sword directly on its face killing it instantly, suddenly he was on his knees gasping for air
"H-hey are you ok?" she got closer to the boy and took a better look at him, he was wearing white armor chest plate, pauldrons and gauntlets over a black shirt, combat pants and boots, on his hand was a big sword, a claymore! "What kind of things his sword could do! Maybe- No focus Ruby!" she got a look at his face he looked rugged for lack of a better word, stubble, mud and a little blood, long hair put on a pony tail but what intrigued Ruby the most were his eyes, for a split second they looked Green, a terrifying green that made her stop on her tracks, only for him to blink and then look at her with the most mesmerizing blue eyes she have ever seen
"Hi are you from team RWBY? I came with another team of Beacon PNR to help with your Grimm problem" He said smiling at her like he wasn't surrounded by dozens of decaying Grimm "I'm sorry Miss are you ok?" he asked while extending a hesitant hand
"YES I'M FINE!" Ruby winced why she was yelling "Yes I'm Ruby Rose leader of team RWBY we're friends with Pyrrha, Ren and Nora!"
"Ruby Rose leader of team RWBY that must be confusing" he said smirking at her
"It is, sometimes I got really confused because I don't know if they are scolding me or all of us and then Miss Goodwitch-" she stopped herself from rambling any more "Sorry i'm not good with new people" she said looking down
"Don't worry about it, between you and me, neither I am, honestly I suck at meeting new people" he smiled at her "It's been a pleasure to meet you Miss Rose, I'm Jaune Arc I would gladly continue our conversation but we should move to help the rest of your friends" he said while dusting himself, she nodded at him and they started running at the dropping zone where the rest of her friends should be
"By the way, just call me Ruby and I would like to call you Jaune" Ruby said a little meekly "I mean only if you want, I could call you Mr. Arc or something" Jaune couldn't help but laugh
"That's fine Ruby all my friends call Jaune after all" after a moment Jaune added "Well only if you want to be friends if not I don't have any problem keeping this very professional!" Ruby just looked at him and a moment later she started to giggle
"I would love to be your friend Jaune!" Chirped Ruby "Take That Yang! I made a friend by myself and he is totally as socially awkward as me!"
"That's nice! Well Ruby we should hurry there's a lot of Grimm yet to kill, think you could keep with my speed" Ruby normally wouldn't accept that kind of challenge, at least not on this situation, not after she screw up and put her team on danger, but something in Jaune's tone made her smirk
"Oh now it's on!" and in a flurry of petals she dashed in front of him she could hear a laugh and fast running steps beside her the entire way to her friends
Team PNR and team WBY were running low on everything Ammo, energy and aura, they have eliminated a lot of Grimm but kept coming, It was wave after wave of darkness that didn't seem have end, they just needed a few more minutes the team from Beacon was about to reach them
"Come on guys keep pushing we can't give up now!" Pyrrha shouted while shooting her last clip of bullets
"I don't have any more magazines!" shouted Ren while plunging the blades of his sub machine guns on the head of a Boarbatusk "Nora where are you? Are you ok?!"
"I'm fine! But I just have 4 more grenades on stock! Don't worry about it too much I'll just have to start swatting them like flies with Magnhild!" she said with her unending positivity
"Blake is out too, i'm on my last shells, the only one with enough ammo is Weiss and I still don't think she have enough!" Yang shouted behind Pyrrha
"It seems we will have to engage in full melee soon don't give up now!" Pyrrha shouted again "I hope Jaune or Ruby are close, we really need help here, the ETA from the third team is around 15 minutes but i'm really scared that we don't have that much time"
She plunged her spear on the head of an Alpha Beowolf and flipped to avoid the paw of an Ursa that received a powerful hit from Ember Celica, she was about to throw her shield when her eyes caught something at her side, two blurs appeared out of nowhere, one red the other a bright white, the former one she recognized as Ruby using her semblance and her weapon to cut down any Grimm on her path, the later doing exactly the same, she felt the aura that radiated from the blur and smiled knowing that Ruby and Jaune entered the fray
The two blurs stopped in front of them with their weapons ready, Ruby was the first to talk
"Sorry i'm late guys it seems that even I can't run that much so fast!" she was suddenly enveloped in a deadly hug courtesy of her sister
"RUBY thank god you're ok! I was so worried you took too much time!" as much as Ruby wanted to answer she couldn't without air on her lungs
"As beautiful this reencounter is we still have a lot of Grimm in front of us!" Snarked a much stressed Weiss, while pulling Yang from her ear freeing Ruby
"Yang please never do that again" she gasped for air and took a moment "Well let's see how we are, how much ammo we have?" Blake shook her head, that's bad "Ok how much aura you guys have left?"
"All of us are below 25% Team PNR are the same, at least from what I see" answered Weiss while Pyrrha nodded in agreement
"I'm barely above 30%, Nora is at 23% and Ren is at 19%, the other team ETA is about 13 minutes, I don't like our odds Ruby" Pyrrha said frowning
"Don't worry we'll handle this we're the best teams on Beacon after all" Pyrrha could see the fear on the eyes of the young leader, even she was having doubts, a hand on her shoulder made her turn around to see Jaune smiling at her
"Hi guys it's good to see that you're safe now I heard that you have a little problem with low aura! I can help you guys with that!" the smile never left his face
"Of course his semblance, but-"Pyrrha looked at him "Jaune we couldn't ask you that you need all the aura you have for this fight" Pyrrha honestly didn't expect the laugh that came out of Jaune
"Pyrrha don't worry about me i'm almost at full tank" he said with a warm smile
"That's impossible Jaune you have more time fighting than us!" Pyrrha said, what he said was simply impossible even if his reserves were big; they needed to be gigantic to be almost full after all the fight he have been doing!
Jaune simply chuckled and reached on his back pocket for his scroll, after clicking a few buttons he showed her his aura reader on his scroll
"H-How are you at 94%, that's impossible" she said in almost a whisper
"I saw you kill dozens of Grimm Jaune, just how much aura you have!" The small reaper was in awe too his aura reserves must be the largest aura pools ever seen on remnant history!
"We can talk about it later now gather your teams you need to be around me!" he turned to Ruby "Ruby I know we just met but I can help you and your team I just need you to trust me and get your team around me!" Ruby looked at Jaune then at Pyrrha who nodded at her he turned at her team
"Ok everyone gather around Jaune! He'll help us, go!" Pyrrha shouted at her team, they knew what Jaune could do so they jumped straight at Jaune
"Ok guys my new friend Jaune said that he'll be able to help us we just need to gather around him!" her team looked at her at her with doubt
"And how is he going to be able to help us Ruby?" Weiss didn't trust easily and this new guy Jaune haven't do anything to earn her trust
"I don't know but Pyrrha, Ren and Nora trust him, and I trust him too! So I ask you to please trust me on this" her team looked at each other and sighed
"Ok lead the way Rubes hopefully he'll give us more ammo or who knows maybe he can teleport us out of here!" Yang said trying to ease the mood
After a few moments the seven of them were around Jaune team NPR looked ready and calm while team RWBY felt a little uneasy
"Ok introductions first my name is Jaune Arc! And you're about to get your aura charged up so get ready!" Team NPR nodded and team RWBY turned at him with wide eyes, a certain blonde brawler had her mouth open, she reached with her hand trying to grasp his shoulder when a surge of power make her stop.
Pyrrha only heard from Ren what he felt when Jaune amplified his aura to heal his leg, but no words could describe what she was feeling at the moment, she could feel her sore muscles getting better, like if all the tiredness and pain suddenly vanished, she could feel all the strength she spent fighting returning to her quickly, she looked around just to see the rest of her friends with the same expression
A few moments later the feeling stopped but she felt like she could take the world on her shoulders
"What… was that" Weiss asked a little dizzy, Ruby looked at her scroll
"That Weiss, was Jaune giving us a chance to survive this" Ruby said smiling showing Weiss her scroll that read that their auras now where at 100%, the seven of them were at full strength again
"That's my semblance Aura amplification, now everybody gets ready because the next wave is here!" Jaune got in stance with his sword at ready; he felt two hands touching his shoulders
"Jaune how much aura you have left, if you need to take a breath we understand" Pyrrha was very worried for him, he just refilled seven aura pools
"Yes Jaune, you have done a lot for us, if you need to take a break we can handle this!" Jaune couldn't help but smile seeing two friends being worried for him he was about to answer when another voice joined the conversation
"Are you kidding me? The Jaune Arc sitting down from a fight that's impossible, the Jaune Arc that I know jumps at the ring the very moment he is called no matter if his opponent is faster, stronger or more powerful he doesn't run from a fight" Yang said with a soft smile Looking at him, Pyrrha saw Jaune's eyes widen and a big smile appeared on his face
"Yang, oh god is so good to see you!" all of them saw him embrace the blonde girl, normally that would mean that someone was about to get punched, but they all got surprised when Yang returned the hug
"After this we need to catch up, and don't think you won't get a punch in the face, Maya and your gang were devastated when you left the school!" Pyrrha understood then, that they went to the same academy it seems, but Jaune left it, why? She wanted to know more about him but that'll have to wait
"Yeah we'll catch up don't worry" he said while stepping back from the hug "Pyrrha, Ruby don't worry as Yang said I don't like to run from a fight and my aura is still at 60% more than enough to fight for another Round"
Then they resumed the battle, now with their aura at 100% their odds were really good, Pyrrha looked at her friends carefully Ruby and Yang destroyed an elder Deathstalker, Using a combination of Weiss semblance and Blake agility they were cutting Boarbatusk and smaller Beowulfs fast, at her side Nora slammed the head of a king Taijitu and Ren cut down another wave of Beowulfs, she smiled with renewed vigor and turned to see a massive arachne dropping from a tree right at her, she prepared her spear to intercept it when an slash of wind cut the arachnid monster in half
"Sorry if you got that Pyrrha! I saw you spacing a little and decided to lend you hand" Jaune smiled at her, she turned and couldn't help but smile at him, "I know we're not accustomed to fight together but if you have my back I have yours" He send her a big toothy smile
Pyrrha blushed, hard, she would never say it out loud but she really envied her friends for having a partner, she knew that Ren and Nora would always have her back in case she need it, but she always wanted someone to have her back as a partner should
"That sounds Grand Jaune" she smiled warmly at him "Even if is a temporary partner, i'm glad is someone like Jaune" Pyrrha thought, after receiving a nod from Jaune they entered the battle again.
The battle was hard, but the Grimm numbers that seemed endless started to fade, they could do it, the sound of a bullhead made Pyrrha look at the sky the team from Beacon was there, she received a message in her earpiece and her eyes widened
"GUYS TAKE COVER IT'S TEAM CFVY!" she yelled and all her friends widened her eyes while Jaune just irked an eyebrow
"Who is Team CF-" Jaune was interrupted by Pyrrha grabbing him by the back of his shirt and pulling him with the rest of her friends that looked terrified, his questions were answered by the sound of two machine guns roaring, He saw Ruby picking her earpiece
"COCO AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL WE LEFT THE AREA!" Jaune couldn't help but laugh this Beacon guys were really something else
The battle didn't lasted much after the arrive of team CFVY, A very weird dressed girl and a rabbit Faunus were culling Grimm up and down with their miniguns, a dark skinned man was blowing Grimm with his punches "Aww man that looks amazing! Maybe he can give some pointers to do that!" At his side a mountain of a man was swatting Grimm with his sword "That sword is bigger than umbra…" was the only thought on Jaune's mind, he turned at Pyrrha
"So who are they again?" Pyrrha had her face between her palms
"Those are Team CFVY Jaune, they're a fourth Year team, almost full-fledged hunters and they are known from their extremely good capacity of clearing big hordes of Grimm"
"Yeah I can definitely see that, they really seem like a team for this kind of situation" Jaune deadpanned, a clearing of throat made him look at his side where a white haired girl was
"On behalf of my team and my friends I want to give you our deepest gratitude, without your help things could have turned very bad" she said while extending her hand, Jaune chuckled at the formality but took the hand nonetheless
"There is nothing to thank for I'm glad to be of help" he smiled at her when he felt a weight settle on his back turning his head he saw that Nora was clinging on him
"Of course there is a lot to thank you for Jaune-Jaune! We were weak, tired and with low morale and then you came riding that golden steed shining bright as the stars!" Jaune arched an eyebrow and was about to ask when a hand on his shoulder made him turn again
"What Nora wants to say Jaune, is that we're glad that you helped fighting and with our aura, maybe for you it wasn't a lot but for us, you gave us a bigger chance to survive and go back home" Ren extended his hand at him, and Jaune couldn't help but smile at the words of his male comrade, he shook his hand and nodded at him
"I repeat I don't like how easy their bromance is blossoming help me Weiss! He'll steal Ren!" Nora shouted whispered appearing on the back of the heiress
"Get off me you barbarian!" Weiss shouted trying to maintain her balance, making everyone laugh at their antics
"Hey kiddos why you left so little fun for us eh! Almost not worthy the travel "the weird dressed girl approached them with her team behind
"What Coco is trying to say is that we're happy you guys are ok and we're proud that you could handle a horde as big as this was" the rabbit Faunus added
"Wait, do I meant that?" Coco said just to receive a slap on the back of her head from said Faunus "Yeah I meant that, we're happy for you guys, hurray whatever we should go back to Beacon to report to Ozpin don't take too long" Coco said turning around in direction to their bullhead
"Bye CFVY! Thank you so much for your help" chirped Ruby and with that team CFVY waved goodbye and left
"We probably should get back to Beacon, we need to report to Ozpin, a horde of this magnitude isn't normal and I saw Grimm that isn't even from this region" said Ruby remembering the Beringel that Jaune killed
"Yeah let's get back to the Town our bullheads are over there" Pyrrha said and with that they started walking to town
Ugghh this chapter was a nightmare, I didn't like the way I had to end it but my brain couldn't find another way to do it.
