Hey all, I know I've been gone a while. I honestly wasn't expecting to come back, but due to being stuck at home as well as some conflicting feelings, I felt the urge to write again. Idk if I'll ever finish this story(or Ostracized for that matter, for those that follow me and wanted more, I just haven't had the motivation to write in such a long time, and this is kinda what I feel like writing atm. If you like it and wanna continue pm me, I'll gladly give you the reigns. I kinda don't wanna see something I worked on go unended like that) This is a story I thought of a long long time ago, and started it, but lost the bit I did write and never followed up. Anyways. I hope you like it
"What do you mean you won't be my housemate this year?"
Lyman groaned, leaning his head on the train window. He was currently on the phone with his best friend Lucy, a Lycanroc like himself but the daytime form, about their now nonexistent housing arrangements.
~It means exactly as I said. My mate said he didn't want me living with someone else, and we decided to stay together this year.~
He huffed at the feminine voice, the disappointing news annoying him slightly, rolling his eyes thinking of what kind of housemate he'd end up with.
"But things were fine last year! What made him wanna stay with you now? You know what happens when someone is left without a housemate before the house applications close."
~Yeah...Maybe having someone randomly picked for you wouldn't be so bad? I know you have issues with dealing with others, but maybe this will be a good change. You need to broaden your horizons, come out of your shell a little.~
He sighed. Why does she always have to get so preachy about this stuff? he thought. He knew his best friend only wanted what was best for him. But he'd heard the same spiel a dozen times.
"Yeah yeah I've heard it all before. I just don't want some clingy freshman all over me. That's why I asked you last year, you're too much like a sister so I knew nothing would come of it."
He heard her snicker over the phone and rolled his eyes.
~HA! Like anyone would want your lanky ass. I'm sure whoever you get would keep their distance. That towering body and gloomy disposition will make sure of it.~
He chuckled to himself, knowing he was abnormally tall for a Lycanroc Midnight. He stood at a towering 6 feet and 4 inches, meaning that when people looked up at him, they were met with his natural grimace, the face all of his kind were blessed with. Naturally people were weary of him, and kept their distance. And dealing with that for such a long time, he started to distance himself from everyone else too.
"Alright alright. Maybe you're right, it won't be all bad right?"
He looked out the window, they were nearing the first wall of the school.
"Maybe I'll meet someone I'll like..."
...
"The greatest school in the country" also known as Atmos University, where our motto is "If you have the resolve to rise above the odds, we'll help you reach the sky." This is truly a school for the most gifted and talented students, where most register years beforehand just to get a spot. And even then, they have to maintain the highest grades, hone their battling skills, and truly realize their potential just to have the chance of enrolling here, and rising higher. So congratulations to all of you, standing before me, who've worked the hardest to get here."
The Latios stood in front of the microphone in a full suit and tie, addressing the adolescents in front of him. A certain student, stared in awe at the grandeur and magnificent manor in which he spoke, taking in all the praise and adoration he was showering over his peers as well as himself.
Yes, he had registered several years beforehand to get a spot, and stayed up every night studying to make sure his grades were top notch. His battling skills weren't much to speak of, but they were willing to waive those because his grades were some of the highest in the country, and his father was a well known affiliate with Atmos, so he may or may not have pulled some strings to get him inside. The rest was up to him. And he did it. He worked hard, and earned the right to be here today.
The Latios wrapped up his speech and bid farewell to the students, wishing them happiness and luck. He took flight, and went blasting off, leaving the students in shock. 5 more psychic Pokemon took his place, levitating down onto the stage. A Xatu, a Gardevoir, a Metagross, an Alakazam, and a Bronzong. In unison, 5 voices rung in the students' heads.
"We are the Student Council, we will be finishing this ceremony, before assigning you to your homes and allowing you to get comfortable before classes start next week. Allow us to introduce ourselves."
One by one they spoke their names. The Xatu went first.
"I am Sorin Lepeero. You may call me Sorin. I work with school security to ensure the safety of students on campus as well as the public areas surrounding the school. I hope to keep you all safe and orderly."
Next was the Gardevoir.
"My name is Diana Noire. Feel free to address me as Diana. I work with the counseling department, and the housing department, to ensure the health and stability of a student is always as its best. I look forward to aiding your possible stress relief."
After her, was the Metagross. In a metallic voice they spoke.
"You will address me as Tadakatsu. I am in charge of the transportation on campus as well as the surrounding areas. I will make sure everything moves smoothly, so please try to cooperate."
Then, the Alakazam, he bowed politely as he spoke.
"I am Saiko Rebrum. I am the current disciplinary chairman, as well as the overseer of all the student council members. I look forward to working with you all this year."
And lastly, was the Bronzong. In a voice even more robotic than the Metagross, it spoke.
"I am Belle Stiel. I work towards helping achieve technological greatness each year, and help ensure that all machines and dohickeys are in working order. Pleased to meet you all."
After they all introduced themselves, they each took turns going in depth about what they did and how it effected the everyday lives of the students. As they exited the stage, the Gardevoir took the microphone on last time.
"On a final note. Those of you who haven't chosen a house will be sent a text via the school announcement number with your new address on it. Please head on over to the housing districts and get settled. That will be all."
Right as she finished, Lucien's phone vibrated. He read the address in the text with glee. He was excited to see who his housemate was gonna be. He was starting fresh at this school and didn't know anyone, so he decided to leave it in fate's hands.
...
Lyman followed the directions he input in his Maps app. His new home wasn't far. He was wondering what kind of girl he'd be living with. He specified girl because he requested a coed house, fully prepared to be living with Lucy before she backed out in favor of living with her boyfriend instead. He also didn't get along with guys. He didn't know why, but all his life he got along better with girls, which made it harder for him to befriend other men, aside from Lucy's brother Alex. He was a Lycanroc Dusk form, and was really abnormal, but it made him easy to get along with. He wasn't gay, but he couldn't help but long for some dude time. He'd hoped for a girl housemate, and Lucy volunteered, saying it'd be loads of fun.
He walked up the pathway to the plain orange house. It wasn't as big as a normal house, but it was big enough to house 2 people, and had the perfect amount of accommodations for whoever was staying there. He noticed the lights on the first floor were on.
She must already be here.
He unlocked the door to see a Lucario sitting on the couch in the completely furnished living room. She was humming happily to whatever music was playing in her headphones, drawing in a sketchbook.
Huh. She's kinda cute. I wonder what she's like...
He put his suitcase next to the couch and walked in front of her, making his presence known. The Lucario looked up from her suitcase, and flinched, giving him a look of shock and fear. In a voice that didn't sound even vaguely feminine, he uttered:
"Who are you?"
Lyman's shoulder's slumped. Of course he somehow ended up getting another guy when he wanted a girl. The Lucario took his headphones out and relaxed a little.
"Do you have the right house?"
The Lucario's face scrunched up in confusion.
"Huh?"
Lyman growled lightly. He hated when people acted like they didn't hear him when he spoke.
"This is a coed house. As you can see we're both males. I think there was a mix up somewhere is what I'm saying. Is this the address you were sent to?"
His look of irritation was very apparent, as the Lucario had a fearful look on his face. As Lyman looked down at him, he realized he had too many effeminite features. Rounder eyes, bright red irises, even an innocent look that he couldn't deny was a little calming.
"Yeah, see for yourself."
He sighed and watched as the Lucario pulled out his phone, and showed him the text with the address, which was the exact same one he got.
Yup, this is the place.
"Alright then. We should probably get this taken care of then. Let's go, I wanna do this as quick as possibl-"
"Hold on, why are you taking charge all of a sudden? Does it really matter if this is a coed house or whatever, shouldn't we just get settled in like the Council said? We just got here after all."
Lyman turned around with a glare, mixed with a questioning gaze.
"The Council? Oh no you must be new here. See, I requested this house, because I didn't wanna get stuck with some bratty newbie. Newbies almost never request houses, much less coed ones. So I wanna know why I got stuck with a guy and when I can get this resolved. You don't have to come with, but it'd be a lot easier for you if didn't get comfortable, because when I do get this shit fixed, you're gonna have to leave anyway."
The Lucario just puffed and crossed his arms, looking away in annoyance.
"Fine then, I'll stay here. I'd rather wait here alone than stroll around with some jackass any day."
Lyman rolled his eyes and grabbed his suitcase, leaving the Lucario with a huff.
...
"FULL?! WHADDAYA MEAN FULL?!"
The clearly frustrated Espeon stood there with a stern face, not faltering after being yelled at.
"I mean exactly what I said sir. All the houses are full this year, enrollment has reached an all time high since the Headmaster portrayed his skill in battle last year at Tournament 3000. Some people are being forced to stay at home until extra accomodations are made in the city for them to have comfy living arrangements near the school. Which comes to your situation. Obviously your house wasn't the only one used to fill in the empty spaces, there are plenty of others who had a new student bunk with them, and weren't happy with who they got."
He slyly pointed to the dozen other students who tried to fix their living arrangements, and had gotten shut down by the firm Espeon. Lyman slumped down a little, but was far from defeated.
"Isn't there anything that could be done about this?"
The Espeon pretended to think.
"Weeeeeeell. You could ask someone to swap housemates. That's only an option for a week however, after that, the housing arrangements are permanant. Or, you could ask someone on the list to be put in the new housing district in the city, have them take your house, while you go home and you wait for the new housing district to be built, in abooouuuuuut 10 months tops? Or just pay thousands of dollars to stay in a hotel for the year. You know, if you're new roomie is already that unbearable."
Lyman flinched at the last part then rested his forehead on the counter, defeated this time. He knew very well how hard it was to get someone to swap houses. He would ask one of the students who had also been unhappy with their arrangements, but considering they were all flustered and ALSO had newbie roommates, or worse, he wouldn't wanna waste his time.
Commuting was out of the question, he wasn't even from this area, he lived at least 5 hours away by train, and having to pay for a back and forth ticket would put a fairly large dent in his wallet, not to mention the toll it would take on him mentally and physically. He didn't know anyone from the list of people who were put in the queue for a new house in the city, let alone how to contact them. And finally, getting a hotel would undeniably cost more than taking the train, he could probably get by for a few weeks, but for the year would be devastating.
He decided that the Lucario wouldn't be so bad. He felt like a bit of a dick for questioning his intelligence and having so little patience, but didn't think much on it. He figured he wouldn't get along with the guy anyway, so there wasn't a need to apologize for it.
...
This time he walked up the plain orange house with his shoulders slumped, dragging his suitcase along the concrete. He opened the door, to find the Lucario still sitting in the same position, drawing as if he hadn't moved at all while he was gone. He closed the door and Lucario shifted his attention to him, giving him a snide look.
"Guessing things didn't work out so well?"
Lyman's brows furrowed.
"No, genius they didn't. There's a lot of bullshit I'd need to do in order to handle this, so we're housemates until something comes up."
The Lucario snickered annoyingly.
"I guess you're stuck with me then. I was waiting for you to be here, because I didn't wanna leave you out of room choosing. I already looked and didn't mind either one, so you can choose first."
Lyman was a little surprised when he noticed the Lucario hadn't unpacked anything other than his sketchbook and pencil. Even after their minor spat he was still willing to let him choose the room he wanted first. He cursed at himself for being an ass to him.
"Oh. Alright, t-thanks."
The Lucario nodded without looking. Lyman silently grabbed his suitcase and walked upstairs. He looked in both rooms, unfamiliar with them. The first was on the front side of the house, it had a very large window that gave an amazing view of the rest of the housing district, and the rest of the world passed the wall. It was fairly large and gave plently of living space. He walked in the other room, and noticed how stuffy it felt. It was on the back side of the house, where the only window was facing the wall that worked as the border between the housing district and the main campus. It was noticeably smaller than the other room, which made Lyman question why the younger Lucario hadn't just chosen a room and gotten it over with. One room was clearly better than the other! He put his suitcase by the door of the larger room and walked downstairs.
"Hey, Lucario. Why didn't you just choose the bigger room? I don't believe you'd be fine in that small ass room."
The Lucario leaned his head back at him to look back at him, and shrugged.
"Believe what you wanna. I really don't care. Have you chosen a room? I'd like to unpack my stuff already."
Lyman stomped back upstairs while stating:
"Fine. I'll take the bigger room then. Suit yourself."
He heard him call from downstairs.
"And my name is Lucien. Not Lucario."
He went to his new room and started to unpack his stuff, grumbling to himself.
"Fuckin smartass, trying to use reverse psychology to get the bigger room. Well it didn't work, jackass."
As he grumbled to himself, he noticed the Lucario finally make his way into the other room, and smiled excitedly as he got a good look at it. He had a hint of glee in his eye that made the Lycanroc think, that maybe he didn't really care. He was just happy to be there in the first place. He watched as the Lucario danced around the room, unpacking and putting away his clothes, setting up his desk and smiling as he cleaned everything.
He felt himself no longer annoyed for the time being. He decided to focus on his own cleaning, and get his room prepared to his liking.
About 45 minutes later he brimmed at his handiwork. He knew he'd have no trouble getting comfortable, he had set it up just to look just like his room at home, even moved the bed directly under the window so he can stare outside at the sky while he was in it.
His rumbling stomach brought him back to reality, he patted it, realizing it's been a long time since he's eaten, and it was late, meaning most of the places to get food would be closed. Wasn't this great.
He knew the responsibility of putting food in the fridge fell on the students, meaning unless the Lucario went shopping in the last few hours, he'd be hungry until tomorrow. He sat on his bed miserably, trying to think of any way he could at least put something in his stomach so he wouldn't have to deal with hunger pangs all night. It was then that he got a knock on his door. He opened it, and looked down at the Lucario standing in front of his door holding a container, and a hand on his hip. . He quickly realized there was almost 2 feet in distance in their height, and stooped down to his level.
"What?"
The Lucario handed him the container, which had some food in it. It looked like fried fish and some steamed vegetables.
"Here. I made this earlier but you seemed snippy so I figured I'd give you a chance to settle down. I warmed it up for you, but if you don't want it you can stick it back in the fridge and eat it later."
He turned around and walked back downstairs. The Lycan was left standing there, an unimpressed but grateful look on his face. He took the container into his room and sat at his desk, quietly eating.
It's actually pretty good...
He 'tch'd' and ate the rest, silently thanking the smartmouth Lucario. He left the container on his desk, noting that he should clean it later. He laid down in his bed, thinking to himself.
This should be an interesting year.
Hopefully you guys like it so far. Idk if it managed to pull anyone in yet but give me your thoughts. I'll see you guys next time.
