Capture
We ran through the forest at breakneck speed trying to lose our pursuers.
Wendy had woken up an hour earlier complaining about her exceed, Carla having some sort of premonition. If that wasn't eerie enough, Wendy herself had been having nightmares for the last week and a half.
Her nightmares were my nightmares and no matter how fast or far we ran, they always caught up to us. Quite like the guardians who were now chasing us.
We fled our school called Fairy Tail Academy almost three years ago. We just didn't fit in among the others anymore, and after losing her family, Wendy just didn't feel safe or secure there.
She wasn't the only one though. Almost three years ago, there had been a huge tragedy in the central city, Era.
One alpha from the psychiatric ward had gotten free and murdered an innocent beta wolf, becoming a mad, rabid omega.
The omega escaped along with a few other escapees, who turned and fled into the city, causing destruction and chaos wherever they went, painting the streets with the blood of the innocents walking the streets.
Wendy's family and many of our fellow students' families were among the casualties.
We happened to be there at the time. I had only just managed to escape with Wendy before the monsters flooded the streets, slaying any person with a beating heart in their path.
Of course, the guardians found them and eliminated them, but not before they had done irrefutable damage to the royal families to had travelled to the city for the coronation of the new queen, queen Hisui.
Each of the royal families had lost at least a half dozen clan members and just as many clan leaders had lost their lives, our friends and classmate's parents among them, taking a massive chunk out of our already dwindling alpha numbers.
What happened was a freak accident, but that day many of our loved ones perished, including Wendy's parents. They didn't even get a decent funeral or memorial because the tragedy had taken so many lives, a group ceremony to honour the dead was held with a stone tablet engraved with all of the names of the fallen. On of the queens first actions as ruler. The deceased deserved better, especially Wendy's parents.
She hadn't resented me for saving her and she knew I couldn't have saved everyone, but still, sometimes I feel her wish to have been killed with them, for now she is the only member left of her dying clan, and a paramount of responsibilities and expectations were burdened onto her small shoulders.
When I say 'alpha' I am not referring to the alpha of a wolf pack. Alpha is simply the term given to purebred wolves. Not all are royal, but there are just under a dozen royal alpha clans left today. They are called 'alpha' because they were the beginning species of our races, at least that is what we were led to believe.
'Beta' is how wolves who are not from the royal clans are classified. Somewhere down the line the blood line was mixed with human, the result offspring were called beta's. Stronger that delta's but weaker than alphas. Delta-human offspring were still classified as delta's because they retained their genetic superiority the beta's lost.
'Delta' is what we call our vampire cousins who feed off of the blood of animals. Naturally, there are many differences between the species and often racism occurs both inside and outside of the academy. One of our major disputes are because deltas are allowed to become guardians where alphas are not. The alphas argue that as the strongest of our race there should be allowed to fight, the deltas argue that they are less than ten percent in numbers as they once were and for the species to survive, they had to be protected.
The 'Omega', now they are an entirely different story. These monsters were born from murder and black magic. It didn't matter if it was an accident or intentional, if a delta killed a person through feeding, they were turned into an omega. There was also the case of being forcefully turned by an omega no matter what species you were, alpha, delta, beta or even human. No one was safe from them.
Omega was the name given to them because they walk alone instead of in packs or groups like we do, and also because it means 'end'.
Our numbers have dwindled over the years and it is rare for us to breed willingly to increase our numbers. Would a royal alpha breed with a normal alpha or beta? No. Would a lower-class beta or delta risk diluting their bloodline further by breeding with humans? No. And while delta's and wolves can breed among themselves, it is incredibly rare for them to let the offspring survive.
We have enough natural enemies out there, why would we let live a new race stronger than us walk among us, only for them to decide they want to be at the top and decide to kill the rest of us off? Hybrids were taboo among our races, even omegas were said to fear them.
Regardless of such, I am sure some parents out there managed to keep their children hidden and safe. Even if they were hybrids, they were still their children and some people would rather risk the species survival because they are blinded by love instead of offer their children up to be slaughtered.
I yelped in pain as my paw slid off of a root, probably spraining it. I took a moment to regain my composure before Wendy shot out of the trees behind me, followed by the echo of pursuers behind us.
"Erza! Are you alright?" She asked me worriedly and quickly healed my paw before I could protest. I sighed.
"Thank you, Wendy. I think we are going to have to pass through the river to erase our scents. Then we have to run in our human form. They know what we looked like over three years ago, but I doubt they will recognize us now if our scents were covered and we used suitable disguises." I told her and she nodded.
She followed me to a large river. Well, it was rather deeper than wider, and it looked awfully dangerous. After giving it a look, I decided to use my sea empress armor to increase my resistance to the torrent.
"Wendy, climb on my back, hurry!" I ordered as she quickly scampered onto my shoulders.
"Please don't get me wet!" Whined Carla her cat from inside her backpack. I rolled my eyes and swam the expanse in moments. When we emerged, I made sure no witnesses had seen us, before running into the woods with Wendy towards the city.
I requipped into a tight pair of faded black jeans and a white tank top. I got out a dress for Wendy and she used her air magic to dry us off. We both wore platinum blonde wigs to hide our natural hair colours and to make us look more like relatives and less conspicuous.
Once we were dressed, we flew towards the city's train station. We landed in a clearing just outside of the train station and we quickly ran inside. The woman at the desk shot up, getting ready to call security but before she could even open her mouth, I caught her eye.
You see, how I know I must have mixed heritage is by my ability to compel. Not that I could ever talk to my mother to figure out who my father was, I didn't even know her side on my lineage. Compulsion was a strictly delta ability and yet I had it. And mine was debatably as strong as a delta royals' compulsion. There could be other explanations as well, but this one seems most likely.
She quickly took her seat resuming her work as if she had never seen us. I caught the eye of a suspicious guard and silently compelled him to erase the footage of us on the station's cameras immediately. He told his partner he had to relieve himself before setting to the task at hand.
I held Wendy's hand and led her through to a compartment with few windows which was empty with an emergency exit. We sighed and took a seat. Her lip wobbled and she pressed her face into my breast. I hugged her to me and kissed her head affectionately.
We weren't related as far as we could tell, but we were both from royal families and happened to meet a long time ago. My mother had no time for raising me and gave me to a friend of hers, Wendy's mother, to be raised. I was almost four at the time and Wendy had just turned a year old. We had quickly become inseparable.
Despite an almost three-year difference in age, we took the same classes with the belief that I could keep her on my grade by helping her in my spare time. Wendy's parent's death made her the princess of her deceased clan, the last Marvel alive was something all except the omegas wanted to protect and preserve. She was a beacon of hope for our species survival.
They didn't care much about her personally, even though they tried to make it seem that way. They just wanted her out of school quickly so she could be thrown into the world of politics. She would be easy to manipulate. However, as I didn't inherit my mother's alpha gene and I never knew who my father was, I was considered a beta wolf and as such my only duty in life was to serve the delta and alpha.
I chose to be Wendy's guardian. A guardian is pretty much a constant body guard. Some newly graduated alphas and deltas are assigned one if they were royal. We have no choice in the matter, but they do, and it was left in Wendy's parents will that I was to become her guardian. And guardian I became. Both as a beta wolf and also as her family member. We weren't related, but I was considered family to them.
I stroked Wendy's hair gently as she calmed down. A shift of movement caught my eye. A man sat at the far end of the seats opposite us. I couldn't tell much about him apart from his gender and blue hair. I sighed and sat back. The train had begun moving and I couldn't detect any of our pursuers on board. We were safe for now.
But we weren't.
Our heads shot up only thirty minutes later to the screams of a nearby carriage. I tried to concentrate so I could focus on what the enemy was.
"It's omega." I said to Wendy and she shivered violently. In all our years on the run, we've never come across any before, at least until today.
"Come we have to go." I said in panic and ran down the carriage to the exit.
"Hey, something bad is happening back there, you should hide or run away to the nearest populated area." I told the man who sat there. He had his forehead pressed on his knuckles and made no move to escape. I pitied him his fate and I took Wendy's hand and escaped.
There was no forest in sight. Only vast rocky terrain. Typical Australia. We would be seen either way so I used the only rational plan of action I had.
"Wendy, you and Carla fly ahead. I will remain grounded to fight any pursuers. Go! I'll try to stay directly beneath you!" I told her and watched as they took flight. Their eyes watching me, hopefully, hoping that I would remain with them. Truthfully, this isn't the first time we were found. They just hadn't had the skill to catch us, but this was the first time an omega attacked near us. Hopefully we weren't their targets.
I requipped into my flight armor and sprinted across the terrain with Wendy in my sight. I could feel someone following us so I stopped to glance back. That was when something hit me in the gut. I grit my teeth and observed my attacker. He seemed pleasantly surprised that I hadn't been taken out by his attack. He had nasty red eyes and fangs. Omega. My heart thudded in my chest, but before I could requip a weapon, a burst of light hit him and they both assailed to the sky.
"Erza!" Wendy yelled from the sky.
"Don't worry about me, keep going!" I yelled back and continued my sprint. I was panting violently when we finally thought we lost our pursuers. We couldn't stay here for long. The guardians must have heard about the commotion and would be on their way. An idea struck me and I pulled Wendy along with me as I raced through the nearby city. They had an airport.
I wasted no time compelling someone to fly us out to Japan. It was dangerous as many more of us resided there, but it was safer than anywhere else we could run to.
I sighed as we took our seats in the first-class section and removed our disguises. The plane had taken off and we were given a brief moment to calm our racing hearts. A brief moment indeed.
The cabin burst open and an omega eyed us hungrily. He leapt forward and I pushed Wendy into the toilet room. Once she locked the door, I looked at my opponent. I had never seen an omega before today, but he appeared much like a vampire, except he had some canine traits. More than one set of fangs, pointed ears and red eyes. He was obviously a wolf before he turned.
"And they say omegas can't fly." I said bitterly.
The flight would be at least 7hours. I couldn't fend him off for that long. I had to fight and attempt to kill it. I grit my teeth as I requipped into my flame empress armour. We were in the air now so I couldn't risk damaging the plane in case we crashed into the ocean. I swung my fire sword at him and managed to back him up a tiny bit. I couldn't fight him. But.
I opened my requip space and launched a sword through his chest. He struggled then collapsed. Nothing but fire, decapitation or a blessed silver stake could kill an omega. I gulped knowing what I had to do. I moved the body to the food compartment and swung my sword at his neck repeatedly. I couldn't set him on fire on the plane, nor could I stake him as I hadn't graduated and never received a stake. My stomach turned but I kept hacking at his neck until I saw the bone.
Just then he woke up and grabbed my arms harshly, cutting through my soft flesh with his long dirty claws. With what was left of my strength I screamed and brought my sword down one last time. His head rolled. And so, did my stomach. I wrenched over his corpse and coughed until the shock wore down. I washed my arms and face of the blood, but my cuts were deep and my arms kept bleeding. I held my sword shakily in my hand.
"Wendy? Carl-?" I began, but a loud bang erupted from the planes boarding door. I lurched forward. I hit something hard and yelled out. I saw Wendy open the door and rush towards me. I also saw the man with blue hair from earlier closing the door on the plane. I tried to tell Wendy to run and hide, but before I could utter a sound my vision blanked and I fell into a dreamless sleep.
When I woke up, I felt better, but also… restrained. Restrained?!
"Wendy!?" I called frantically, as my eyes shot open and I surveyed my environment. We were still on the plane, but I was tied up. And Wendy wasn't in sight. I began to panic until the man from earlier walked into the lower-class compartment where I happened to be.
"You're something else, you know that? Did you really kill that omega in there? I hope you don't think my treatment of you is extensive, but after that I think I should be wary of you." He said jestingly. My breath caught in my throat.
"Where is she? Wendy!" I called out. He put a hand over my mouth, startling me.
"Keep it down. She is fast asleep, poor thing. You really pulled her along a long way. And don't think of trying to escape. As soon as we land at JAL a force of guardians will be there to capture you and take you back to the academy." He said somewhat smugly.
I narrowed my eyes at him. I smiled and tried to access my magic. I couldn't. My smile disappeared and fear must have shown on my face for he lifted his hands in a calming gesture.
"Easy. I'm not going to hurt either of you. I have been assigned as princess Marvels temporary personal guardian. My only job was to find and capture you and bring you safely back to the academy." He said calmly.
"If we wanted to be there, we never would have run away!" I growled and tried to compel him. Compulsion wasn't magic, so much as it was mind control. His lips quirked and he stared into my eyes definitely.
"Your compulsion is strong, but mine is stronger. Do not try that again. I see I will have to blindfold you until we have you back on academy grounds. Why did you feel the need to flee a perfectly safe environment, if you don't mind my asking?" He asked curiously. I huffed and frowned as I tried to restrain my tears at being caught. Once we were off the plane, we would be given the identification bracelets all students wore. They compressed magic and other supernatural abilities.
"You are her guardian? You don't know a thing about her! I took her away from the academy because the strain was hurting her! She is barely fifteen and yet she takes complex senior classes so that she can graduate faster to become a political pawn! I was protecting her!" I yelled at him and angry tears fell from my eyes. I bowed my head lower to better hide my face with my hair.
He was eerily quiet as he pushed my hair behind my ear and wiped away my tears with his thumb. I was too shocked and upset to care about how he was invading my personal space.
"I empathize with both of your situations. I am not the bad guy here. I am assigned to protect her; therefore, I am on your side. As her guardian I will advise her when I can to ensure she doesn't get ensnared in a political power battle. You can rest easy. What you did was foolish, but at least now you can graduate and become the guardian you were supposed to be." He told me gently but my eyes burned with frustration.
"Foolish? I did protect her. From everything and everyone. Even an omega. I wouldn't have left if I thought it would hurt her. You obviously don't know a thing about either her or me." I said bitterly. He sighed and walked towards the first-class doorway towards where Wendy slept.
"Perhaps I don't, but I will. Get some rest… Scarlet." He said gently. I was shocked. Then again, I shouldn't be. He found us and caught us. He had to know at least as much our basic information. It irritated me how he knew my name and I didn't know his. But I never got the chance to ask as the plane descended and the confused pilot emerged from the cockpit.
"What am I doing here?" He asked sceptically. We ignored him and descended to the ground where we were indeed outnumbered. Before I could open my mouth to thank our captor for acknowledging our genius at escape, he was gone and Wendy with him. A guardian came behind me and blindfolded me. My protests were ignored as I was led into a car.
"Hey, is this really necessary?! Just take off the blind fold. Please." I asked urgently. I heard a sigh beside me.
"It's alright, take it off. Her compulsion doesn't work on me anyhow." Our captor said. And as soon as it was gone, my ID bracelet was snapped onto my wrist and I was cuffed to the doors handle.
"There has to be a compliment in there somewhere. And for your information, bondage and cuffs aren't my thing." I said venomously staring him down as he focused on the road. His lips quirked upwards slightly.
"But they look so good on you." He chided. I growled and switched on the car stereo with my telekinesis. He glowered behind the wheel and switched it off. Not a moment later I switched it back on.
"I'm not against using sleep magic on you. You best not irritate me further." He said darkly. I stared at him defiantly and broke the button to switch off the stereo. I smiled challengingly.
"So, you obviously know who I am, but you never told me who the hell you are." I said irately.
"That's because you never asked." He said just as irate.
"I just did." I argued with a snap in my words. He narrowed his eyes, but kept them on the road.
"No, you merely stated the obvious. I did not tell you. And you did not ask." He said smugly. And grinned at the irritated look on my face. The music was annoying me now on top of it all. I rolled my eyes and used my telekinesis to switch off the stereo. He smirked and glanced my way.
"I actually liked that song." He said, trying to irritate me. I clenched my jaws and looked outside of the window. Now and then I caught him looking at me through the reflection on the glass. Probably trying to assess if I was plotting an escape. I sighed and looked away from his reflection to the ever-nearing academy.
"She'll be fine." He said as we entered academy grounds. I laughed bitterly.
"I thought you were smarter than that. You mean she will pretend to be fine and since that is what you want to see you will believe it, or just not care either way." I said coldly.
"Not everyone out there is your enemy." He said sadly.
"No," I admitted. "Only people like you who force us to live how you want us to and do what you want us to. Oppression is a sin you know." He never answered me, but he got out of the car and walked around to my side.
"Master Siegrain! Principal Makarov wants to see you and the escapees immediately!" Called a guardian.
"So, your name is Siegrain." I stated as a matter of fact. He snorted and began walking away.
"Siegrain is the alias I use as a member of the council." He said, donning his coat. I stood in shock for a moment while I assessed the symbol on his back. It was the symbol of the ten saints of Ishgar. He was one of the ten most powerful supernatural creatures on the planet.
"Erza!" I heard Wendy cry before she collided into my midriff. Our cuffs and restraints were removed and we were led forward. The academy had day classes for wolves and night classes for vampires, only some of them twisted the rules because they wanted to have classes with friends. We just so happened to be brought back in the middle of the day during the second break period.
"Requip!" I commanded, and changed into my casual armor. The guardians watched me warily, so did the saint as he waited for us to walk our way towards him.
'Hey, aren't those two…?'
'Yeah, I'd know that hair anywhere!'
'Titania has returned!'
'It seems even the queen didn't stand a chance against Fernandes.'
'Nah, you're tripping! The blood obviously ain't hers!'
'Yeah, she probably beat him to a pulp!'
'Hey is that the Marvel princess behind her?'
'She sure grew bigger.'
'No, she didn't you blockhead.'
"Erza, fight me!" I heard loud and clear among the gossipers. I grinned viciously as our old friend Natsu Dragneel, the prince of the Dragneel clan came running up to me, fist raised and filled with dragon fire. I put my hand on Wendy's shoulder, urging her to stand back as I stepped forward.
The saint narrowed his eyes at us in contemplation and the guardians looked ready for action. I smiled and raised my fist to Natsu's stomach. He dropped to the ground in a heap.
"Natsu!" Lucy shouted and ran over to see if he was alright before sighing and leaping up to hug me and then Wendy.
"We missed you guys! Do you have any idea how worried we were about you?" She asked as tears pricked her eyes.
"Liar. I wasn't worried. I knew they were fine." Natsu wheezed out before collapsing into unconsciousness.
"You still can't hold back, huh? And here I thought the two-and-a-half-year gap would affect you. Should've known better. Fight me now Erza." Gray said, coming up from behind Lucy. I huffed and placed my hand on my hip.
"It's good to see you Gray. You definitely look more handsome than back then." I said flirtatiously and fluttered my lashes teasingly. As predicted, he flushed and stepped back, scratching the back of his neck.
"Y-you look pretty good yourself, Erza." He said hesitantly. "And what Lucy meant to say was, the next time you want to pick up and ditch the academy, take us with you!" He yelled defiantly. I flushed and turned away, tossing my hair over my shoulder.
The saint watched us closely as we made our way to the headmaster's office.
"They seem decent. Can't see why you left." He said, not to either of us, but so both of us could hear him.
"The problem was the faculties, not the fellow students, although some students did take bullying too far." I told him defiantly. He eyed us a moment before knocking on the headmaster's door.
'Enter.' A voice said from behind the door. The master of the academy was also one of the saints, therefore it made sense for Wendy to squeak and hide behind me. I gulped myself and slowly walked forward towards the two leather chairs in front of the desk.
"Have a seat." The old gruff voice said, turning in his leather chair. He appeared to be a little old man the size of a six-year-old. We knew better. The master, all of the saints, were monsters in one way or another. I took a seat on one of the couches. Wendy started to sit on the other before deciding against it and quickly hopping onto my lap. We held each other tightly and comfortingly.
"Now. Is there anything you have to say for yourselves? Any explanation?" He said, seemingly calmly, twisting his moustache between his fingers thoughtfully. Wendy shook her head violently and hid her face between my neck and shoulders.
"I guess… congratulations are in order for finding us. Or capturing us at least. We have been found a number of times- "I began my clever remark before the master slammed his fist down on the desk. His eyes glowed yellow and he grew in size until he reached the tall ceiling.
"Do you think this is funny?! Your lives were at stake, including the good reputation of this school! I can't expel Wendy but you my girl are going to be on the road after your stunt!" He shouted at me. I held my breath and stared into his eyes defiantly.
"Master Makarov, they have a bond. It would be foolhardy not to nurture it. Besides, with me on campus, they have no chance of escaping again." Siegrain said from behind us. Master growled before sighing and slumping back in his desk.
"I swear you kids will be the death of me! Erza, I am very disappointed in you. You were a role model in this academy, someone everyone aspired to be like. Your actions have had major consequences for the academy, even if I do not expel you, you will only be allowed to remain here on probation. There will be conditions. You must both be punished." He said sternly.
"I understand, master Makarov. What is my punishment? You should know that it was my choice to take Wendy away from the academy. You know she idolises me. She shouldn't be held to any blame." I said clearly, keeping my head held high. He sighed and pinched his nose between his eyes.
"I am sorry… for worrying you master." I said softly and sincerely. It was true. The academy was a haven for us. What we feared was what would happen after we left the academy.
"I view all of my students as my own children. It hurt losing you, but I am glad you are home safe. Before I decide on your punishment, however, I require my report on your capture." He said and looked behind us.
"Commander General Fernandes, please report." Master politely asked and Siegrain seated himself beside us. I too was quite interested in how he had found us. It would help to know when we escaped again.
"Three weeks ago, I had been assigned the case of acquiring and returning my new charge and her accomplice. I researched with archive where they had previously been found. I used my own tracker magic to find them, using some of the red hairs found in a brush that was abandoned on a previous escape." His lips quirked upwards.
"You could say, the red strings of fate led me directly to where they had been hiding out. From watching them carefully, I could determine that they would have to leave the house to hunt soon, so I carefully situated guardians in a reverse diamond formation around their location. We almost caught them, but miss Scarlet and princess Marvel used a river to erase their scents, which would have led to another escape for them if I hadn't been surveying them from an aerial view the entire time. I tracked them to the train station and slipped in undetected, found the darkest, empty compartment available and sat quietly, observing their interaction." He said calculatedly.
"About thirty to forty minutes along the train was derailed, attacked by omegas." He said and master Makarov's eyes widened in alarm. He stared at us in panic before looking back to Siegrain and nodding for him to continue.
"As I was saying, we were ambushed. Only two omegas, thankfully. I dispatched one, but the other got past me. I tried to track it, but I failed and decided that retracing the princess was the better objective. When I found them, aboard a plane, the princess was in distressed over the unconscious body of miss Scarlet. The other omega had snuck on the plane after them. But… it was dead when I arrived." He said hesitantly and pursed his lips.
"I contacted my guardians here in Japan, they waited for us down at the airport for a private landing. From there we drove straight to the academy." He ended his narrative and nodded. Master Makarov looked at me.
"Tell me my girl, what happened on the plane?" He asked kindly. Wendy less afraid now, turned towards him and smiled.
"Well, I deduced that it wouldn't be safe for us to stay within range of being found so I decided to fly. The train stations would have been too dangerous, we couldn't run or drive because it would be too slow and too easy to be tracked. Once the plane took off, we were assaulted by an omega. I hid Wendy in the toilet compartment while I fought him off. I knew I couldn't keep him away for the duration of the flight so I had to kill him." I said steadily, and looked down at Wendy who stared up at me in awe and admiration.
"I couldn't risk an out of control fire on the plane, and I hadn't graduated so I didn't have a silver stake. Which left decapitation. I incapacitated the omega with a sword to the chest, which rendered him unconscious for a moment. I began trying to slice off its head, but he woke up in time to fight back. I managed to harness enough strength to bring my sword down in one last effort, and just like that his head went rolling. I was about to see if Wendy was alright when this idiot next to me opened the door on the plane, causing turbulence making me injure myself and rendering me unconscious. Again, I would have escaped if he hadn't been immune to my compulsion." I said, slightly miffed. Said idiot smiled charmingly at me as if I had complimented him. I rolled my eyes and scoffed turning back towards the master who regarded me carefully.
"I see. I am happy that you are safe. We must make preparations for your molnija mark tomorrow morning. As for your punishments…" He said with a gleam in his eyes. Molnija marks were awarded to anyone who killed an omega in single combat. They looked like lightning bolts.
"Firstly, as expected, you are forbidden off campus. While you will retain your S-class miss Scarlet, your liberties will be revoked. Second, you are to participate in the school beauty competition fundraiser. Third, you are obligated to participate in the yearly magic games in order to restore our school's prestige. Four, you are to take extra lessons after school classes each day until seven at night. I am yet to decide on your instructor." He said thoughtfully.
"Master. I accept my punishments. However, I must oppose to having a personal instructor, especially every day. I do not need to learn anymore, and there isn't anyone on campus that I cannot already best. They will end up in the infirmary before the week is out, and that is if I hold back." I said proudly. I don't know what it was that I said, but master smiled at me evilly.
"You are lucky Laxus is currently away on a mission, otherwise I would have him train you. There is one man on campus who could teach you many things my girl. Guardian Fernandes, you will be miss Scarlets mentor for the duration of her stay at the academy." Master said to both of our surprise.
"Master Makarov, I am not here to train- "Siegrain began before master held up his hand to silence him.
"Please my boy, do an old man a favour? Erza is a talented young woman and I am sure an alpha guardian such as yourself has much to share with your future guarding partner." He said ever so reasonably.
"Every day? Master, I still have trail missions to go on alone. He cannot accompany me. And what about weekends? There is only so much even I can take." I said sadly and looked up at him through my lashes pleadingly.
"He may accompany you on your mission to make sure you do not escape again. And I suppose you may have Saturdays off, if only for your sanity." He said sympathetically. I thinned my lips and nodded in acceptance. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Siegrain staring out the window with his chin on his palm.
He had a strange red tattoo on his face. It began on his forehead and ended under his eye, trailing down his cheek.
"You are dismissed. You have the rest of today to settle in, but tomorrow your classes begin." Master said as he went back to his paperwork. I sighed as Wendy and I were led towards our new rooms. We used to share a room, but since we might conspire to escape again, they decided that it was best to keep us separated. Both our rooms were in the guardian's dorm. They were bigger. But we had less privacy.
I flopped onto my new bed and stored my armor. I looked at the brightly lit evening sky for a long while before I decided to take a long shower. The only decent thing about living in a guardian's room was having your own private bathroom. Apart from the royals, all students had to use communal bathrooms.
I rubbed the soap over my body soothingly, erasing all traces of running, fighting and past injuries. My sweat and blood ran down the drain as I relaxed with my face under the showerhead. I smiled ruefully. We got caught. I hummed a song while I washed and rinsed my hair. I already missed the luxuries of the outside world. Here the shampoo was unscented apart from the soapy smell, and conditioner wasn't supplemented. It was a luxury. I dried my hair with a towel as much as I could before I used my hair dryer to finish off drying it. It was time to face the questions we would get in the cafeteria. I sighed as I walked out of my room towards Wendy's room, which was of course guarded. Not by Siegrain I noticed with a smirk. I could easily have taken her and fled. Instead, I waited for her to come out of her room and for us to be escorted to the cafeteria.
