Friend In Need
Two days later...
~Lilly's POV~
"Bye Chris!" I said, holding on to the left over hamburger in my hand as my mother opened the door. I watched as Christine sped off in the taxi before actually turning around. "That was amazing..." I sighed.
My mother finally opened the door, "Yeah, who knew there was a 50s diner like four miles from this place. And those hamburgers too." My mother groaned. "They were just delicious."
Christine had taken us to this cute diner where all they played was old rock and all they served was really cool burgers and cute deserts. It was just perfect. They had a jukebox which had The Four Seasons on it. So we ate and listened, (without crying too), and then afterwards we took a walk along the bay...or ocean. One of the two. Its not like San Francisco Bay that's for sure. But I swear the moon was in the water, it was so still and the moon was so bright. After that we called a cab and came back home for a much needed rest.
I smiled brightly at her, "Yeah, that was just the best." I pulled out my phone from my mother's purse that I also was holding and read about 3 text messages from April.
'Lillian, remember that day I had to leave early because people were following me?'
'Well it's getting worse and I can't go to school anymore.'
'Come over tomorrow. I'm staying with the turtles. I can't go above ground without them anymore.'
I sighed heavily. What the hell is up with her? Is her father like in some gang or something? Who keeps following her? Why can't she just go to the police? Now she has to miss school because some assholes are looking for her! What did she do?
Well, if anything, I know the guys will help her. They are...ninjas. Which is something I still can't wrap my head around but okay. They kick ass. So she's in good hands. You know, unless they all die or something.
But that's highly unlikely...
I walked in, setting my burger on the kitchen counter.
My mother stared at John for a moment who was just chilling on the couch, sipping on a beer. "Hey sweetie,"
Ugh, I could feel the burger coming back up.
John took another sip, "Where'd you go?"
"Christine took us out." My mother explained softly, taking off her coat. "We have some left over burger if you want some."
He looked at me... More like glared. What crawled up his ass? "The money you spent on that burger could have bought us more food here."
"The money you spend on crack could buy us a house." I mumbled under my breath.
My mom tapped the counter, "Shush."
John stood, "Christine told Charles where you were going. And she told him why. Care to tell me why you left without permission?"
I had to chuckle, I just had to fucking chuckle. I began to take off my jacket, biting my cheek from actually laughing.
My mother suddenly straightened, "Well, it's Lillian's father's birthday. I wasn't going to go but since she's my daughter I went."
"What?" I scoffed.
John shrugged, "That I can live without. But it's just... I think you have a little problem with getting that I am the man of the house. And if you're leaving to go out with your friends, you ask me first."
I rolled my eyes, "I'm not asking you for shit."
John grunted like an animal before turning in my direction. "We'll see about that. Because last time I check you wouldn't have those, and those, and this whole fucking house if it weren't for me! Understand."
I scoffed, "You do not get to talk to me that way. I am not my mother. I don't just shut up and take it from you or her."
My mother grabbed onto his hand when he raised it, as if he would hit me. "Please John. Let's just go to bed." She pleaded.
I wish he would. Got me fucked up.
John grabbed my mother's arm viciously, I could tell it hurt even if she didn't make any noises. He must be high or drunk or something.
I stepped forward, "Don't touch her, John."
"Why? She's my property."
What is this? The 1800s where you can suddenly own a person? He doesn't own shit. "Do not touch her."
He raised his hand and before he could slap her, I pushed her out of his reach. Next thing I knew, tears welded up in my eyes from the force of the actual hit. No wonder why my mother was terrified. He hit pretty hard.
My mother cupped my cheek as tears slid down her face, her make up beginning to run horribly. "Oh god, no! Lillian! I'm so sorry."
I blinked the tears away, "I've had worse." I then turned to John. "You can hit me, but you can't hit my mother. She is-"
My mother covered her mouth, "No Lilly."
John looked back and forth between the both of us before actually speaking. "What are you talking about?"
"She's pregnant John."
"Says who?"
I blinked in astonishment. "Um... Says... Who the fuck do you think?"
He backed away a bit, "By who?"
I sighed, simply staring at my mom. I saw this coming. I shrugged and began to walk towards my bedroom.
"By who? By who!" My mother began.
They continued screaming for almost the rest of the night. All I did was, put on some pajamas, plugged in my MP3 player and just went to sleep, ignoring the pulsating feeling in my cheek. I'm so going to kill that bastard one day. I just need to find out where to hide the body. I should have fought back. But in all honesty... It was laughable. I mean, he thinks I'm scared now so I'll use that to my advantages.
It was about 10 o'clock when I woke up, the sun was shining even though last night was basically ruined with the drunken idiot that roamed throughout this house. I got up and felt my cheek, it stung like hell.
I went to the bathroom and my eyes widened in horror when I saw how red the whole side of my face was. I was expecting there to be a hand print but instead, it looked like someone just picked up something big and threw it at me. It was swollen all the way up to my eye, then to my ear, and ended almost to my chin. I looked like a chipmunk with stored nuts on one cheek. It looked red and irritated as if I had been scratching it.
I sighed when I thought of my moms reaction to me actually getting hit. She was stunned at first but then she immediately turned her attention to John when he questioned about her 'maybe baby'. I was kind of disappointed but I also was kind of shocked because she did do more than I expected her to. Oh well, nothing has changed. Maybe this baby will finally make John leave us alone. But then we'd be fucked since we won't have the money for baby shit. I groaned in annoyance. Life was so stupid!
Suddenly my memory came back from the other night. April wanted me to come over. Today? Looking like a tired hamster? Maybe if I put some ice on his it'll be less swollen. I mean he hit hard but I didn't think he hit me that hard. I brushed my teeth, peed a little then went out to the kitchen. No one was in the living room so I thought they were still sleeping. "Alright, so no breakfast."
I grabbed an old bag of frozen vegetables and placed it on my cheek, sighing in great relief as the hot irritation soon cooled down. "Might as well get dressed." I held the bag to my cheek the whole way to my room and when I got there I just flopped onto my bed and stayed there. Not wanting to move, let alone get dressed. "Why am I cursed with such a stupid family?" I asked myself, my cheek suddenly becoming numb. "How's it like up there dad? Your wife is a little crazy with that guy. Please hurt him or something." I knew I was talking to myself, and I knew that no one could hear me. And I also knew that if my dad really was listening, which is highly unlikely, then there was literally nothing he would be able to do about anything that's wrong in my life. Personally, he would have started so long ago.
All I knew at that moment was the fact that this bag felt so good and my eyes were starting to grow heavy once again. That is... Until my phone began to rang.
Groaning, I felt around on my tiny dresser by my bed until I found the small little shit. "Hello?" I answered not caring who it was.
"Are you coming?" April said hopefully on the phone.
I nodded to myself, "Yeah, I just have to get up."
"Alright."
"Alright..." I said sleepily. After a couple moments of silence, I opened my mouth to say goodbye but I was suddenly interrupted by the soft cries that seemed new to me. "April?"
"I need you here. I need a friend. My life is basically over if I don't get out of here. I can't live down here forever. And I can't go up there." She sobbed softly.
I sat up, my whole body suddenly feeling like a bucket of sympathy was dumped on it. "April..."
"I love these guys. They're family to me. They're my brothers. But I just can't live here my whole life. I-I'll go crazy."
I shushed her, "Okay, first things first... Stop crying. If the guys even hear you crying they'll flip. Second, I'm coming as fast as I can right now, alright? I'll be right there. Alright... Take a couple deep breaths and pull yourself together."
April sighed, "Okay..."
"You can cry when I get there." I joked harmlessly. "I'll be in there in about 10 minutes. Don't worry, April. Everything will be fine."
After that, I immediately got up and began to dress. I put on a tang top, then over that I put on a hoodie, then I just put regular jeans. I tied my hair up and just walked out the door. I didn't think about putting the vegetables back in the freezer, or the fact that my cheek was again starting to burn. I've never heard April cry or say that she needed me in my life. Or in the short time that I've known her. Like five months I guess.
So when I hear her cry, and tell me that she needed me, knowing that she is a strong person that doesn't even cry when she's hurt badly or for any reason what so ever, I make it my number one priority to get over there and have my shoulder right there so she can cry on it. There's just something about friends that mean so much to me. They make up for the suck-ish family I have. So, in other words, they're kind of like family. April is kind of like my cousin... I don't know about sister... I mean, friendship is like a video game, you level up at certain points.
And it goes for me too. I'm sure I'll level up to become like... Best friend or something.
So, even though I'm not built for running, I run my ass to the manhole cover we usually go to and pick up the cover are quickly as I can. Which was really hard to do, especially since they're so heavy. I managed though, to get the lid off and on.
God, the sewers stink. How can they live in here?
If I remember correctly, I would know where I'm going and soon I'll be there in no time.
Eventually, I make it to the train tracks and just followed those. Hopefully, it's the right way. Unless it's not then I could be walking for hours...
After taking a few breathers, I start to wonder if it's rude that I just show up unannounced. Should I have called first or... No. This is April. It's an emergency. I'm sure they won't mind.
I finally find the entrance and a sudden nervousness came over me. How was I just going to waltz right in without calling anyone and letting them know that I was coming in the first place? This is just incredibly rude.
I tip toe to the front entrance and saw everyone watching tv. Everyone, including April, who was just hugging her knees to her chest. Oh god, I want someone to notice me so I can act like I was just strolling along and just happened to run into the entrance of the one place where four mutant turtles live- oh who am I kidding!? I should just walk right in. Act like I'm supposed to be there.
But it's so rude...and awkward.
April sighs, "I think I'm going to go take a nap, guys."
"You already did, though." Mikey protested.
April stood, "Yeah, but I'm just...I'm just not..." She turned and finally saw me. "Lilly, you came."
Everyone turned, I suddenly wanted to crawl away. I wanted to run. And I don't know why! I mean I've been here before so why am I so nervous?!
"Of course I came." I said softly. I finally entered the place, only to be embraced by Mikey, who ran from where he was sitting. "Hey Mikey," I chuckled.
April put a hand on her mouth, "My... God, what happened to your cheek?!" She yelped in horror.
I blinked like I didn't know what she was talking about. "What do you mean?" I asked.
Mikey pulled away, "Yikes it looks like someone just punched you. Does it hurt?" He poked at my cheek.
I winced, "No."
Donnie immediately got up and cupped my cheek. "It's very red, very swollen and very irritated. Have you iced it?"
I pushed his hands away, "No," I lied. "I just slept on it too much, I guess." It was like everyone was surrounding me because of a little red mark. I suddenly felt suffocated. "Alright, okay, all up in my bubble. You pop it and I'll pop you."
Everyone took a step back, only April was the one that took my hand. "I'll take a look at it. Come with me." She led me down the hallway of rooms. Straight down was the room she was staying in. It had a plain simple bed and nothing else but two big bags full of what I'm guessing are her clothes. She sat me down on the boring bed and shut the door behind her.
April took a deep breath before she actually managed to speak. "I've never really lived in a house full of testosterone."
I smiled sadly, "April..."
She shook her head, kneeling down in front of me. "I've only lived with my dad. And he's...gone. And now that I can't even live with my aunt... I just..." She took another deep breath, her hands resting at my knees. "I'm so sorry."
I blinked, "What are you talking about?"
"You'll be alone without me. I don't want you to. But I can't go up there because people are trying to-"
"Kill you?"
April scoffed, "I don't know. Probably."
I raised her face up, "Okay girl, stand up and sit on this ugly bed." She chuckled before sitting next to me with tears in her eyes. "Okay, why are people after you? More importantly, who is?"
April sighed, "Remember the girl that Leo was into."
"Okay. I wanna beat this bitch's ass. Who the hell does she think she is? I oughta... Okay, you know what, I'm chill... Continue..." I attempted to compose myself. Three times I've heard about this fucking girl and out of the three times she's been nothing but trouble.
"Well, I kind of did that."
"Did you punch her?"
"Yeah, and then I flipped her down some stairs. But that's not the point. The point is that she's looking for me. The point is that my life is basically over because I have to live down here so her and her 'pals' won't find me." April wiped her face, "I love these guys. They're everything to me. But I just... I can't stay down here. It's not for me."
I nodded, "I get it. You're limited here. But April, it's not the end of your life. I'm sure if you wait it out they'll just-"
"We're working on taking them down. You see, not only is there her and her gang, but there these...things. Aliens..."
"Aliens?" I chuckled. "Alright mutant turtles, mutant rat, a giant mutant cockroach, and all seem to know martial arts or have a form of weapon on them- that I'll believe. But aliens... That's a little far fetched."
April took my hands in desperation, "I would never lie to you. Except the time I lied to you about this." Her eyes were so full of emotion and hope that I just couldn't say I didn't believe it. I didn't. I mean... Aliens! Even I know that's dumb. "They're called the Krang and they're after me. Donnie is trying to figure out why but all I know is that I have to stay down here where there's nothing but boys and I just miss being up there." She whimpered softly.
I gathered her in my arms, "Alright, alright..." I sighed, letting her cry into my shoulder. This was weird, and I felt like I was obligated to do this for some reason but at the same time it wasn't weird, and I wanted to comfort her. She was my friend after all and she's always willing to listen to me. I've never been followed or have my life threatened like her, so I don't really know what to ask her. "Have you thought about going to the police?"
April nodded, "Yes. But then I think, a 16 year old girl going to the police about being chased around by a bunch of ninjas while also being hunted down by an alien race may just have me arrested instead. They'll think I'm crazy."
"Okay, I see your problem." I may not believe in this alien race thing but the ninja gang seems plausible. "The guys will protect you I'm sure of it. Donnie will guard you with his life. Nothing will happen to you. As of staying down here... Being away from home is not fun. Especially since you don't have a choice. But give it time. That's all I can say."
April hugged me desperately, "What would I do without you?"
"Go crazy in a house full of- let's face it- horny teens."
She gagged, "They're like my brothers. They would never try to do anything."
I shrugged, "Mikey won't. Leo won't. Raph...is a flirt. But Donnie. He most definitely won't. He's too scared. But what a cutie..."
April chuckled shaking her head, "You sound like-"
"It's a compliment. Doesn't mean I have feelings. They're all cute. Especially Mikey. Raph... A little less cuter than everyone else but that's only because he's mean."
"Jesus, you hate him don't you?"
I shook my head, "Not at all. I did. But he's slowly getting cool."
April stayed silent for a while. She then took my hand and clutched it like she was going to tell me that she was in love with me. If I was that way, she'd so be my girlfriend. But since I'm not she'll just stay as my...girlfriend. "Are you going to tell me what happened to your cheek?"
"April..." I warned.
She cupped my swollen cheek, causing me to flinch in pain. "What happened?" She ground out through her teeth.
"Does it matter what happened? I came here for-"
"Of course it matters! Lillian, what happened?"
Oh shit... She used my whole name. She's angry now and I don't know what to do. I've never heard her order me like this. She wasn't really asking me what happened, and respecting that I didn't want to tell her because frankly, it's not such a big deal. She was telling me to tell her then and there. And I've never got to know angry April. And I don't want to.
I let out this breath that I didn't know I was holding in. My hands began to shake with an anxious feeling.
"Yesterday, after we came home, John was mad because my mother didn't ask him permission to go out." I began softly. "So when he raised his hand to hit her, I pushed her out of the way and got the worst of it. And I gotta tell you, he hits pretty hard."
April scoffed in disgust, she stood up from the bed and began to pace. "How dare he lay his hands on you!? On your mother!? If I could go over there I'd..." She grunted in frustration the last of her sentence and began to punch the air. "That low life. No offense but you should have let your mother take the hit. I hate to say that but I just don't like seeing you hurt like this."
"My mother..." I rubbed a hand over my forehead in embarrassment. "Has a bun in the oven..."
"What!?" April yelled out in shock. "Are you kidding me?!"
"Nope. Well... She says she's not sure but... It's been five years now so it was bound to happen sooner or later."
~Raph's POV~
I stared at both April and Lilly when they walked off to where April was staying. "What just... Did that just..." I shook my head in confusion. "Never mind."
"Did you guys see how red her cheek was?" Donnie asked softly, as if fearing that both girls could hear us.
"It was as red as your mask, Raph." Mikey stated before jumping back on to the couch.
I shrugged, "She said she slept on it all night."
Donnie thought for a moment. "If that was the truth then her cheek would have just been a light pink and that pinkness would have gone away. This was red. As if she had been...slapped."
Leo sighed, "I'm just as curious as you are, Donnie. But we can't force her to say anything if she doesn't want to."
I smirked, "We don't have to."
"What do you mean?"
"Why bother asking her to tell us when we can just listen?"
"Eavesdrop? You want us to eavesdrop on April and Lilly's private conversation? You want us to break the rules of privacy just out of complete curiosity?" Donnie over-exaggerated.
I rolled my eyes, "Did I say something different?" I turned and quietly skipped to April's room. I looked back and smirked when I saw Leo and Don both hesitantly following me. Maybe we were going to hear something that had something to do with us or Lilly or April.
Whatever we heard, I'm not sure if we were going to like it.
I placed my ear to the door and listened intently. Donnie listened in front and Leo above me.
"Okay, I see your problem. The guys will protect you I'm sure of it. Donnie will guard you with his life. Nothing will happen to you. As of staying down here... Being away from home is not fun. Especially since you don't have a choice. But give it time. That's all I can say." I heard Lilly say.
"Is she actually doubting that we'd-" Donnie began.
I shushed him.
"What would I do without you?" April chuckled softly.
"Go crazy in a house full of- let's face it- horny teens."
I nearly chocked on my saliva. I could see the blush seeping from underneath Donnie's mask, Leo had to clear his throat in embarrassment and, if we're being honest, I could feel my face warm up too. Did she just call us horny teens?
I don't know about my brothers but I sure wasn't as hit you as she may think.
April made this gagging noise, "They're like my brothers. They would never try to do anything."
"Of course we won't." Donnie argued. I shushed him again.
"Mikey won't. Leo won't. Raph...is a flirt. But Donnie. He most definitely won't. He's too scared. But what a cutie..."
I'm not a flirt! "Crazy little..." I growled.
"She... She thinks I'm cute?" Donnie smiled boyishly. "A girl actually thinks I'm cute."
I shushed him, clearly annoyed.
"You sound like-" April began.
"It's a compliment. Doesn't mean I have feelings. They're all cute. Especially Mikey. Raph... A little less cuter than everyone else but that's only because he's mean." Lilly interrupted quickly.
I grunted annoyingly. I knew I wasn't going to like what I was going to hear but I didn't think they'd be attacking me.
Leo chuckled, "She thinks I'm cute too."
"Looks like you're the odd man out, Raph." Donnie chuckled softly.
I grunted, "Shut up."
"Jesus, you hate him don't you?" April asked.
"Not at all. I did. But he's slowly getting cool."
I smiled.
Alright, so she wasn't just attacking me. She's cool too. Still annoying though... Extra today.
"Are you going to tell me what happened to your cheek?"
I could feel everyone finally get over themselves and start to listen seriously. Judging by the sound of Lilly's sigh, she didn't have good news.
"April..."
"What happened?"
"Does it matter what happened? I came here for-"
"Of course it matters!" April yelled.
"Uh-oh..." I snickered.
"She's awoken the beast." Leo joked.
Donnie shook his head, "This is not going to end well."
"Yesterday, after we came home, John was mad because my mother didn't ask him permission to go out. So when he raised his hand to hit her, I pushed her out of the way and got the worst of it. And I gotta tell you, he hits pretty hard." Lilly explained so calmly, it almost sounded like she didn't really care.
I clenched my fists tightly as anger began to rise up in me for the twentieth time that day. No man should hit a woman. No guy should hit a high schooler. I really wanted to hit someone for doing what they did. John... He's going on my list.
I could tell that everyone else was thinking the same thing.
"Hey guys, what are you-" Mikey started to ask, making his way towards us.
We all shushed him.
"What?" He asked.
Again we all shushed him.
"My mother...has a bun in the oven."
I winced at that. This poor girl. If it's not one thing it's another. Donnie and Leo both sighed and shook their heads.
"She should really get that out. It might burn or something." Mikey informed us, suddenly listening underneath where Donnie was.
"No, you doofus. Lilly's mother is pregnant." Donnie growled quietly.
"Oh!... Oh, that's not good. Unless it is... Wait, I'm confused."
"What are you going to do?" April asked.
"Help with it. If she decides to keep it."
"You mean she's getting..."
"Well, I was thinking adoption but I'm not sure if she'll actually do that."
"What are they talking about?" Mikey asked.
"Mikey, I swear. If you don't shut up right now I'm gonna-"
Leo shushed me, "They'll hear you."
"You shush. I'll smack the green right off you." I threatened Leo.
"Oh shush Raph. We're going to get in trouble because of you."
"You're the one that's practically yelling."
"Guys, shush!" Donnie hissed. "I think they heard us."
We all listened very carefully and heard nothing.
"I don't hear anything." Mikey whispered loudly.
I finally smacked him upside the head.
"Ow..." He whined.
"Guys!" Leo warned.
We all shut up and finally began to listen.
"So April, sex is great right?!" Lilly chuckled loudly.
April laughed, "I don't really talk about it but since it's just us girls, let's talk about it."
Everyone, except Mikey, were pressing so hard against the door I could feel it dent from the pressure. And even Donnie was listening super intently.
"Alright... Hold on one sec, let me just get comfortable and take off all my clothes..." Suddenly the door swung open and all of us fell in, except Mikey. "What the hell were you guys doing?" Lilly shouted. "Mikey?" She gasped. "I am extremely disappointed in you."
I got up, rubbing my face. "He didn't do it. I did. It was my idea." I groaned, my face pulsing.
Mikey threw himself at Lilly, "I'm sorry! Don't be mad at me. I'll do anything." He practically cried like a wuss.
Lilly pushed him away, "Alright." She then looked at us. "Get your tails out of this room!" She shouted. "Now!"
Leo and I bolted out of that room, I wasn't scared of her. She's a little scary when she's mad but I wasn't scared of her.
Not at all.
"Wait Lilly... Do you really think I'm cute?" Donnie asked before getting the door slammed right in his face.
"Is Mikey in there with them?" I asked suddenly when Donnie came sulking into the living room alone.
"Um..." He looked back at the door. "I guess."
I hate to say it but I kind of hate Mikey at the moment. He was in a room all alone with two attractive girls, and although I knew nothing was happening in there because it's Mikey... I still wanted to trade places with him for some strange reason.
I shook my head in denial. Maybe she's right- I am a horny teenager.
"Bleh..." I scoffed before turning to sit and watch this stupid tv show.
Alright, I'll get the next chapter as soon as I can! See you guys!
