Chapter 1:Getting a job in a New World?
A row of red brick houses appeared before me; the streets lined with cobblestone like one of those old European towns I had seen on TV. There were people passing by down the street, shops peddling their goods, surprisingly normal. There was a middle-aged lady passing by that looked at me curiously.
"Good day madam, may I ask you where…"
"Ah, you must be from out of town like that young lad from a few months back. He was wearing a top like yours, but it was green. You came here to join the adventurer's guild, didn't you?" I was interrupted as she exclaimed excitedly.
"Uh, yes that's why I'm here…"
"Welcome to Axel, the town for novice adventurers. Go down the main road and turn right, you will see the signboard for the adventurer's guild. My, so many young heroes have appeared lately." Thanking the lady, I followed her directions and headed down the road. Interesting, I could understand and speak the local language as well as read the various signs the shopkeepers had on the street. Looking down at my attire, I had a grey jacket, a black sling bag and surprisingly two holsters attached to my belt on opposite sides. Gently opening one of them exposed the metallic glint of a pistol. Just as I was processing what I had, I realized I had reached my destination. The wooden doors of the adventurer's guild lay before me.
"Welcome, please approach the counter if you're questing. If you're here for food, please take any empty seat!" A waitress greeted as I entered. The guild was kind of crowded, with some men wearing armor and some wearing wizard hats. After taking a quick glance at me, most resumed what they were doing. Heading towards the counter, which were all empty, I went for the first counter.
"Good morning, how can I help you?" A beautiful blonde woman with wavy hair asked.
"I am here to be an adventurer. I come from a farm, so I don't know much." Well that technically wasn't a lie, I had been to my aunt's farm in Hokkaido once.
"Hmm, you look rather young, but well… There will be a registration fee of 1000 eris, is that alright?" Of course, I would need money. Searching through my pockets and then my sling bag, I found what looked to be a coin bag. Counting out the amount needed, I paid for the registration fee, surprised that I knew how the currency here worked. The counter lady beamed as she took out a card, explaining how adventuring worked.
"On this card, the monsters that you kill will be tracked through experience points. These add up to increase your level which gives you points you can invest into skills. Also, your stats will increase as you level up, so do work hard to raise your level. Now, if you can place your hands over this crystal." She placed the card under a blue crystal sphere machine and as I moved my hands over it, it started glowing. The "machine's" parts moved about, a blue light inscribing onto the card.
"Thank you. Alright, Kato Fujiwara-san right? Let's see, you have rather high dexterity and agility, above average luck and intelligence and the other stats are acceptable. Eh, it seems like your class is already chosen as a gunslinger." A confused look appeared on her face.
"Is this not normal?" So, it seemed that a gunslinger was a class suited for me, as per what that angel said.
"Eh, well usually you get to choose your preferred class and well I have never heard of a gunslinger before. But your stats are suitable for many fighter and ranger classes so there should be no trouble classing you as an adventurer in the guild." There was some murmuring amongst the crowd, which grew more excited as the lady spoke.
"This is historical, a new adventurer class. I'll register you now. Welcome to the adventurer's guild, Fujiwara-sama! All the staff look forward to what you can do!" Alright, I was a special case adventurer now, no pressure. I smiled and waved awkwardly to the cheering crowd.
Later that night
A boy lay a sheet over a pile of hay in the stable. Lying down on the sheet, he looked out of the entrance.
"So this is not a dream, huh. Mum, Dad..." The boy closed his eyes, as tears rolled down his cheeks, staining the sheet below him.
