June 2020 (finally!)

4 weeks later

(Also, didn't mention this but COVID-19 doesn't exist in this fic because adding it in would make trying to write this even more difficult!)

It was 4 weeks since the test when the letter arrived. Fenisha wasn't noticeably pregnant, but her clothes had started to get tighter on her. She hadn't bought any maternity things yet, so she was stuck with wearing loose clothes for now. Jan had taken her off night shifts completely, and today was the first day in almost a month she and Will both had days off.

However, Will was working a night shift, and wouldn't be finished until 10am. He'd told her to come and meet him at the ED at 10, but was now too nervous about opening the letter to wait. It was 9am now- she was getting the bus in as Will had taken the car and it was too far to walk. She checked her watch- there was a bus at 9:16 which she could catch to get her to the hospital by 9:30. Grabbing a bag, she shoved the letter into it and headed out.

She wasn't sure what to do when she got to the hospital- she didn't exactly work there so she didn't want to wait in the staff room, so instead she sat at a table outside. Somehow, her mind came back to the now slightly crumpled letter inside her bag. She wanted to open it- but she had promised both Will and Ethan that she would open it with them.

Getting out her phone, she texted to Ethan and Will to meet her outside at 10.

"Fenisha!" She looked up at the sound of Robyn's voice. "Can I sit here?" She asked, motioning to the empty seats next to her. The paramedic nodded, smiling nervously.

"What are you doing here then?" She asked.

"Just waiting for Will," said answered. "What's it like?"

Robyn frowned. "What's what like?"

"You know, everything. Being pregnant, having a child, all of that."

"It's hard, I can't lie. But it's worth it."

"I'm just so worried that I'll let them down, or not be a good mum. I've never done anything like it before. It's scary." She admitted.

"It will go by quickly- you're already, what, 15 weeks?"

"Sixteen."

"My maths was never perfect, but that's like two fifths of the way through."

"That's what I'm worried about- it's just all happening so quickly. 4 months ago I had absolutely no idea that any of this would happen."

"You're going ahead with it- thats basically telling you you're ready."

Just then, Robgn's pager bleeped.

"I'm sorry, I have to take this- text or call me if you want a chat ever, ok?"

"Thanks Robyn," she said.

As Robyn walked away, Fenisha couldn't help but wonder when they were going to tell people properly. They'd never really had a chance, especially as it had been so complicated with Ethan and Will. She guessed Robyn thought it was Will's- and how simple it would be if it was. What Robyn also didn't know was that it had been tested for Huntington's- and that the letter with the results was in her bag.

She was pulled from her thoughts by her name being called again. She looked up to see Will and Ethan walking towards her. She pulled out seats for them both- Will had changed out of his scrubs as his shift had ended, but Ethan still had 4 more hours of his shift.

Nervously, she took the letter out of her bag.

"Have you opened it yet?" Will asked. She shook her head. "Go on then. Waiting won't make it any easier." Carefully, she opened the letter, and scanned the page. Her eyes fell on the words "Huntington's gene test results:"

Her eyes widened.

"Well?"

(Was going to leave it on a cliffhanger here but thought that was a bit mean)

"No... no gene. It's fine. It tested negative for the gene." Suddenly realising what the letter had said, she hugged Ethan and Will, breathing a high sigh of relief.

Ethan felt a massive weight lifted off his shoulders. It was fine. It wasn't going to die a horrible and painful death. Unlike him- a thought he did not want to even start to consider yet.

"Fenisha, I think... I think you should tell people it's Will's baby."

They both looked at him in astonishment.

"Why?"

"Is you tell them that it's my baby, but you're with Will, that instantly makes people start to gossip, and think things that you might not necessarily want people to think of you." When neither of them looked convinced, he said "I just don't think it's right, not now you're together."

Will was silent, before saying, "Are you sure you're thinking about this properly- you are this baby's actual dad- do you really want it to grow up not knowing that his biological father is you?"

"Of course I want to be part of its life- but it's not about what I want, is it? It's about what's best for you two, and for the baby."

When they were silent again, he said, "Why don't you make me its godfather or something, I don't have to be it's dad to still be part of their life."

"Are you sure this is what you think is right?" Fenisha asked.

Ethan nodded. "Who knows it's actually mine?"

"Just Lev- I'm not sure if Jan does or not..." she blushed, remembering the night she had sobbed into her boss's arm. "I'm not sure what I actually told her."

Will smirked, putting an arm around his girlfriend. "She probably just thinks that you didn't know then or something. She already thinks you're annoying, maybe she thinks you're emotionally unstable too,"

She playfully whacked Will on the arm, feigning a look of outrage.

"I'm sorry Ethan- if you change your mind, well, you know where to find us."

Ethan nodded. Somehow, he knew that this was the best decision for him and them.

"Anyway, we have got a cat sanctuary to get to!"

Fenisha's eyes instantly lit up as she grinned.

"Finally!"

I decided not to give the baby the gene in this book, just because I am very soft-hearted and would just struggle writing anything too depressing- something that the writers of Casualty clearly do not struggle with! Seriously though, I would be so sad if the baby did have the gene and then Fenisha aborts it. Fingers crossed it won't!

Next chapter the cat will make its first appearance! (I literally don't know why I'm making such a big thing of this cat, but it's the little things in life that count, right?)

This might be one of the shortest pregnancies ever because I'm not sure what else to include, so it's likely there will be a few more chapters until she goes into labour. I might continue it for a little while after then but I've had another idea for a new fic that will kind of follow on from this one. (Not giving any spoilers but: spoiler alert: it will be more centred around Ethan as this one isn't really a lot to do with him!)
