~Lilly's POV~
"So how have you been doing in school?" Christine asked as she finished off my nails.
"Why are you always asking me that?" I chuckled, pulling my hand away from her to admire the shire.
It was the end of a long day and since I had a lot of time on my hands ever since the suspension, I decided to pay my mother a little visit towards the end of her shift in hopes that maybe I'd run into her boyfriend. In the meantime, might as well get a free manicure...in red nail polish.
The past couple of days have been a little disappointing. Raph decided to lay low for a while so I haven't seen him as much as I would like but I understand his reasoning. Still have to keep our relationship on the down low... So, I'm obviously happy about that.
My mother was just finishing off her last costumer, smiling her fake smile and waving the elderly lady out the door, "Alright Kathy...Goodbye." She said letting the door close behind her. She sighed, "I like Kathy but Jesus can she shut up for at least three minutes."
"You did ask her how she was doing. That set her off." Christine chuckled before blowing on my nails. "Go wash off, no soap." she ordered.
"Are Wednesdays slow for you guys?" I asked, washing all the nail residue off on my fingers.
My mother nodded, "Usually, it's just us two here. Its only drop-ins on Wednesday."
Christine smiled mischievously, "And usually, every other week, someone drops by for a hair cut from your mom."
Finally! I was finally going to meet my mother's boyfriend! I can't believe that every time I've been here this guy has not shown up. Maybe today is the day I'll get to see the guy that is my mom's next boyfriend.
"Chris," My mother groaned. "Stop."
"You know you like this guy."
"That doesn't matter. I told him to leave me alone."
"What!?" Both Christine and I yelled in disbelief.
My mother rolled her eyes, "I searched him up on your laptop, Lillian. His father is some big name on Wall Street. His mother is some smart teacher in some big college."
"So!?" I yelled. "His family is loaded. What's the big deal?"
"Well, what am I? Some girl who had a kid when I was a kid and never even finished high school. And he wants me?" She shook her head. "That doesn't make any sense."
Christine rolled her eyes, "She always says that. She thinks he's planning on breaking her heart or something stupid like that."
"It's not stupid." My mom argued. "It's just there's no reason for him to want to be with me."
"Except that maybe...he actually likes you for you." My mother has went on a date with this man, which is far more than John has ever gotten. For John, he just appeared out of no where. But this man is trying to gradually get into my moms life. I mean he asked me for permission to take her on a date. That blows my mind! I think that my mother is not truly over John and he should be the easiest guy to get over.
"I don't know," My mother sighed, running her hands through her hair. "I don't really..."
Just then, a woman in a purple pencil skirt with a matching purple suit jacket walked into the shop. Her black hair was tied back into a tight ponytail and in her hands she had a clipboard. "I'm looking for Aniya Aguilar."
My mother raised her hand, "That's me! How can I help you?"
"My name is Nancy, I'm here because we've received some phone calls about the current living situation your child is in." She explained. "You weren't at home so I came to your work."
Immediately, I knew who did it. I knew who called. "Oh shit..." I cursed.
My mother sort of jerked away from her in shock, "Excuse me?"
"The severity of the phone calls suggested that your child, Lillian if I'm correct, is in a dangerous situation and needs to be immediately removed from said situation."
"What?" I snapped. "I'm not in an dangerous situation."
Nancy looked at me with sympathetic eyes, sighing at my tone. "Honey, I understand this may be a little scary but there have been some accusations made against your mother and I have to remove you from the situation at the moment."
"Who is going to make me?" I snapped, my tone was more challenging than angry.
"I will have you forcibly removed. So I suggest you just do as I say so nothing gets out of hand."
My mother rubbed her temples and scoffed, "This can't be real."
"Who put in the call?" Christine came in, if anyone looked angry it was Chris. She looked like she was about to jump the girl.
I laughed, "You think they're going to tell you that." I felt some surge of panic wash over me. This was real. This was happening. I can't believe that this was happening.
"This is unbelievable." My mother read my mind. "Some asshole makes one call, fucks us over and he gets protected." I think we all know who the fuck made the fucking call.
Christine shook her head, "Now what?"
Nancy pushed her glasses up, "We go to your place, Lillian I suggest you pack your bag. Since you are 16, you will most likely be placed into a group home. Your mother will have to go to court tomorrow."
"Group home?" Fuck that. Fuck that shit. Hell no, they'll have to take me in handcuffs. I will break out and I will run away.
"Tomorrow! My daughter gets taken away from me at what? 2 o'clock in the afternoon and I have to wait till tomorrow to go to court for what?"
"Well," Nancy took a deep breath. "Since this is an emergency removal of your child from your, the courts will have to start an investigation in order to make sure that everything is indeed fine."
"And that takes like, how long?" My mother asked.
"It depends on the accusations."
"So, whenever you guys are free?"
Nancy shut her eyes, taking in another deep breath to what look like to calm herself when my mother gave her attitude. "It depends on the accusations."
"What are the accusations?" Christine snapped. "And lady, if you won't tell us who made the accusations, the least fucking thing that you can do is tell us why you're taking her daughter away."
Nancy took one long look at me, her eyes full of pity. "It has been brought to our attention that Lillian is being abused."
"Physically?" Christine asked.
She nodded, "And sexually."
I wasn't the only one who's jaw just dropped open in shock.
Oh...shit.
~Raph's POV~
"Where's Lilly?" I asked April as quietly as I could.
"Huh?" She said, finally getting her nose out of that trig book. "Oh, she went to her mother's work. Apparently she has a new boyfriend and Lilly's been wanting to meet him."
I nodded, Lilly told me about her mom's boyfriend and how he leaves her so much money when he stops by. My opinion, sounds like Lilly's mother is a gold digger. Is that a bad thing? Eh... I don't really care. Just as long as he doesn't try anything with Lilly, I'll be fine.
"Why you asking, Raph?" Casey teased, catching everyone's attention.
"What I can't ask a question?" I scoffed, gaining back my cover. Once everyone looked away, I gave him a swift kick in the shin.
He winced, "Ow..." he hissed to himself.
Asshole, he's trying to get me caught. If April is okay with us, why can't he be?
Casey glared at me before trying to kick me back. I easily dodged his kick, then stuck my tongue out as him. He then grabbed an nearby throw pillow and threw it at me. I threw it back and hit him in the gut. He growled, throwing the pillow again.
"That's it." I stood up launched myself towards him, pushing him up and over the sofa. No one really pays attention to us wrestling anymore, it's like I'm fighting one of my brothers, everyone stays out of it. I think it's funny when Case thinks he's better than me at anything.
April's voice is the only thing that stopped the two of us, "Hey Lil' what's-"
I pushed Casey off and stood up, walking back over to the sofa. "Dumbass."
"You're the dumbass." Casey spat back.
"What? I can't understand you." April pulled the phone away from her ear, "Jesus," she cursed, all of us clearly hearing Lilly yelling-pissed at something.
"What's wrong with her?" I asked.
She shrugged, placing the phone back to her ear. "Lilly, are you talking to me or someone else?... Lil' I can't understand you when you're hysterical. Calm down and tell me what's wrong..." April sorta chuckled, rubbing her temple. She suddenly stopped, looking up in almost horror. "What?... Really?... Where?" April grabbed a pen and began to write down something on a piece of paper, before she tore it out. "Alright, I'll be there... Yes, I will... Of course you can... Yes, okay... Bye." She stood up and handed the piece of paper to me. "Do you know where this is?"
I blinked, reading the address she wrote down. "Um... 13th street and Stanley? Sure I do... Why? What's wrong with Lilly?"
"I'll tell you on the way there." April said walking towards the exit.
"Wait, did something bad happen?" Mikey asked.
April nodded, "Something really bad. Come on."
We made it to the really nice, big building. As soon as Lilly saw us, waiting on the roof, she just broke down. I've never seen her so upset, I mean we could barely understand her. When she looked at me with these big golden eyes, it took everything I have to not grab her and just let her cry into my neck. Instead, April went to go grab her, but Lilly's legs gave out. That's when both Mikey and I went to grab her and help her up off the ground. I still couldn't understand anything that was coming out of her mouth. I don't even think she was speaking English. As soon as I touched her, she wrapped her arms so tight around my neck. I looked around to see if anyone cared, but when all I saw were looks of sympathy I decided it was okay to hug her back.
Lilly cried for 5 minutes before I told her, "Tell us what happened so we can help."
She pulled away from me and wiped her swollen eyes, smudging her make up. She took a couple deep breaths before she was able to say anything. "I can't go home."
"Why?" April asked.
Lillian groaned, "Someone called into Child Protective Services and said I was being abused by my mother. So they had to remove me from the situation immediately and now I'm stuck in this mental facility disguised as a group home. Do you know how hard it was to get up to the roof? They fucking think I'm going to kill myself. Everyone here is...nice but I don't want to be here."
"Why did they let you stay with your aunt?" Casey asked.
"Because they're investigating the entire family. My mom is going to court tomorrow to see how long the investigations will be. I want to runaway."
I nodded, "Then come with us."
Leo stopped me, "That's not a smart idea. It'll only make things worse." He stepped to Lilly, grabbing one of her hands. "Do you know who made the call?"
She shook her head, "I don't know for sure but I fucking know it's John. Last time I saw him he was really mad that my mom was kicking him out. And apparently he's practically stalking my mother."
Casey scoffed, "You guys told me he was bad, but this guy needs a serious beat down." I'm always happy to volunteer to give him another.
Lilly shut her eyes, "I don't want you guys showing yourselves to him. Please..."
I shook my head, why does she always do this? It's like shes protecting him. "No. We need to do something about this guy. Lilly," I said, clasping my hands on her shoulders when she opened her mouth to protest. "If we get him to call CPS again to retract all he said, or even admit that he faked whatever accusations he made up, then all this will be done quicker."
I could still see the hesitation in her eyes. It made me want to yell at her, it made me angry that she wants to protect him. "Let the CPS people do whatever they have to do. Please don't take matters into your own hands. Please..." She pointed at me. "You especially. You'll kill him." She's not lying. "I honestly believe you would kill him, I do not want any of you to fucking do this."
Mikey came up to her, grabbing her hand. "Lil' please let us help you. We don't want anyone to hurt you anymore."
"But showing yourselves to this guy...this is so dangerous." She's wiped the rest of her tears and sniffed. "And you guys don't know this guy like I do. He will fucking turn you in. He'll expose you. I can't-" Her voice began to tremble again which made her stop talking. I saw her lip tremble and felt my heart break, it was painful to me to see her this upset. I instantly grabbed her hugged her again without caring if anyone would say anything.
"I think we all understand your concern but," Donnie chimed in. "You don't have to keep worrying about us. Especially in this situation."
"You're safety and happiness is more important than anything else." April comforted.
Leo shook his head, "We're family, your problems are ours." When he walked over to me, and motioned for me to hand her to him, I wanted to kick him away. Instead, I had to put on this fucking act. "Listen, we'll respect your wishes. But," He raised her face to his and wiped away her tears. "If this isn't the last time we hear about this guy causing trouble, then we'll have to intervene. Okay?"
She smiled a broken smile, "Thank you."
I don't agree to this bullshit. He always does this. He make these choices and everyone has to go along with it because he's the leader. Well, this is my girlfriend and I am not agreeing with anything! And by the way, he's a little to close to Lillian. I know he's my brother but...take 5 steps back.
"Promise me you won't do it."
Fuck, now I have to make a promise that I can't keep. I'll find out where this guy is and I'll beat his face in. I'll make him confess, I'll watch him make the phone call hell, I'll even make him leave the country if I have to. Anything to make Lillian happy.
"We promise." Leo sighed.
I don't.
~ The next day ~
I took another look at my cell, watching the numbers only go up. I've been standing in this chilly weather for at least 20 minutes waiting for April to come back out from Lilly's house with any information she could get from Lilly's mother who apparently wasn't in the best shape. As soon as we left Lilly, we all went home and decided to go against her wishes and find out more info to see if there was anything we can actually do. We needed to know any bit of info that could help us do something for Lilly... She's going to be so mad. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
I groaned, throwing my hands in the air in frustration. "What's taking April so long!? God, it's literally been hours and I really wanna punch someone."
Leo rolled his eyes for like the 12th time that day. "Raph, how many times do you have to tell us? We know April is taking a long time, we know you want to punch someone and we know mad because you literally tell us every chance you get."
"Can you blame me!" I shouted.
Rubbing his temples, Donnie sighed. "Yes we can since you're the one saying it."
Instead of saying something back at that smart mouth, I walked over to the edge of the building and let the cool breeze try to calm me down. I couldn't sleep, eat, or even sit still without thinking about what Lilly is going through and how she was coping. Most of all, I can't help but think about how just when we think this John guy is out of her life forever, he comes back like some infectious disease. Even though I'm super confident that he's the one that made this situation, unfortunately I couldn't do anything because I don't know where the stinking low-life is. But boy, I was dying to find out.
"Guys, there they are." Mikey said, pointing down below.
We all saw both April and Casey come out of the house with Lilly's mom who was dress up like she was going to Church or something. April said something to her and Lilly's mother nodded and waved a file in her hand, April nodded before all three of them walked down the steps. April gave Lilly's mother one last hug before they watched her get into a black car and drove off.
April and Casey both walked to the nearest alleyway like we agreed to.
"Finally!" I yelled before jumping down on the fire escape before landing down on the ground. "What took you so long?"
"You try getting as much information out of a woman who's literally trying not to break down in front of us." April said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yeah dude," Casey added. "She's in real bad shape. I mean the lady just lost her daughter."
"So..." Leo began. "What'd you get?"
April sighed, "Hold on for this one, because it's a mess." She leaned up against the wall and rubbed her forehead. "Lilly's mother is...well, she's not happy that's for sure. At first she didn't want to tell me anything but after I told her that Lillian had a 'group of important friends' that would do anything in their power to help she just unloaded on both of us."
"Well..." I pushed. "And..."
Casey sighed, "Apparently, Aniya's boyfriend is the commissioner or something. He was able to get the recording of the phone call from CPS and play it to her."
"I'm assuming Aniya is Lillian's mother." Donnie said. "And?"
April nodded, "It's him."
My fists clenched at my sides, "Where do we find this guy?"
"Well, wait a second," April said, pushing herself of the wall. "They're investigating Lillian's mother for abusing her."
"We know-"
"Physically and sexually, Raph." She snapped.
"WHAT?" We all shouted.
I can't believe that...no. Of course it's fake. Lilly would have told me and not to mention the guy who made the claim is just trying to get back at. I shook my head at the thought. What am I even thinking...?
"He was trying to get Lilly out of that house as fast as he could so he said her mother was..." April looked like she was going to be sick.
Casey placed a hand on her shoulder, "Let's just say the details she gave us could have been spared."
April put her hand to her chest and swallowed hard,"Common spot he hangs out at is some place called Georgie's Alibi and some place in the Bronx where he sleeps at."
"Said he's jumping from couch to couch but that's the main area he goes to." Casey added.
"But, I don't think we should involve ourselves with this." April said softly, locking eyes with me.
"Yeah right," I answered sarcastically.
"Listen, Raph..." She began. "Not only is the investigation going to end soon because they're not going to find anything, Ian is coming tonight to try and pick her up either tonight or tomorrow."
My eye widen slightly, "Ian..." From what I remember, Lilly is absolutely obsessed with Ian. The way she talks about him is almost the same way she talks about her father. This guy is a protective, military, responsible man. I have a huge amount of respect for him and I've never even met him. Now that he's coming over, maybe he could fix this... "Does he know about everything?"
April shook her head, "Aniya couldn't get into contact with him, but she's on her way to court right now, and being that she's friends with the commissioner maybe something will end faster than we thought. So maybe Lilly may not need us. All she really has to do is wait."
Before I could protest, Leo held out his arm to stop me. I stared at him like he just stabbed me in the foot. "It's just something she has to do." When I looked around I could tell I was alone on this one. I wanted Lilly out of that place now, but it was nearly impossible without consequences. "In the meantime," He sighed. "I suggest we go against Lilly's wishes... We have to do something about John."
I didn't say anything, I just nodded.
"Georgie's Alibi is 133-42 and 39th street. Opens at 5 closes at 12." Donnie read off of his phone. "It's a little far from here. Do you have the address where he stays?"
April nodded, "I typed down every bit of information I thought might have been useful. But I say we hit the bar first."
Leo nodded, "If, by the time the bar close, we still haven't seen him, we'll pay him a visit at home."
"And when we see him, what then?" Mikey asked.
Leo turned to me, giving me a half smile half smirk. "You take it from there."
I smiled, punching my fist into my hand. "Gladly.
We were all waiting on the roof top across the street from the bar where he was supposed to be. God knows how long we waited there, it was already dark out but we were tempted to wait all night if we had too. April went back to Lilly's house to wait for her mother so they could go pick up Ian from the airport.
"Is that him?" Casey asked when another man stumbled out of the bar.
"Casey, that's the fifth guy you pointed out. No. That's not him." Donnie growled annoyingly.
"I've never seen the guy. How am I supposed to know what he looks like if I don't ask questions?" Casey snapped.
I rolled my eyes, "Both of you shut up."
"You shut up."
"I'll kick your ass, Jones." I threatened.
"You won't."
"Oh yeah?"
"Guys," Leo warned. "Pay attention to the objective."
I glared at Casey who glared right back. Why was he even here?! He doesn't even like Lilly! I mean, was I grateful that he was here, sure. Nothing ticks me off more than knowing my girlfriend and my best friend hate each other. Casey's not a bad guy though. He's a dick, but he's not a bad guy. He may not like Lilly, but he hates injustice just as much.
"There he is!" Mikey shouted, pointing in the direction of a guy who was walking out of the bar with a beer bottle in his hand.
"Alright, when he passes by this alley we-" Leo began, before stopping when he noticed, when we all noticed, a black car pull up like it meant business. John stopped, looking at the car in curiosity before someone stepped out, then his face morphed into that of annoyance.
"What the fuck do you want?" He yelled at the man that exited the car.
The man went up to him, grabbing John by the neck and dragging him over to the alleyway underneath us. The man seemed to be way stronger than John, since he easily picked him and threw him to the ground. "I told you to show up in court today and admit the accusations were fake? Care to tell me why you didn't, because you're legs don't look broken...yet." The man growled.
All of us looked at each other in awe, as if we were watching the best thing ever.
"Are you kidding!? They threw me out onto the streets. They deserve everything they got!" John yelled.
The man sighed, "Really wished you never said that." He stated calmly before throwing a hard punch to John's face. After he shook his hand in pain, "I warned you to do as I say."
"Or what? You can't kill me." John laughed maniacally.
If I were down there, John would already be begging for me to stop. He would have already dropped whatever charges he placed. It would already be over. This guy is an amateur.
"Really?" The man reached around his side, pulling out something- a gun!
"This dude has a gun! Let's go guys!" Casey said, giving me a little shove. "This guy is crazy."
"Wait, I want to see if he'll do it." I said.
"What? Are you crazy?" Casey slapped my shoulder. "See what? Him killing the guy?"
"No you idiot, I want to see if he'll get him to go with him."
I looked back down at the guy, who was now hold the gun to John's temple. "I could end this all with the power I have."
"Then why don't you do it?" John snarled. "Why don't you do it and maybe... she'll give you a little reward. I can see that you really care for her." He teased him before laughing. "She's easy, I'm sure she'll do anything."
"I don't know how a pathetic low life like you got someone like her." He raised his gun, then whipped he gun across John's head sending him down to the ground. When he didn't move we thought that was it- but this guy was relentless. He picked John up, slapping him awake. "Stay with me. You go tonight, right now, I'm going to take you there myself, and you tell them the truth or I swear, I'll spatter your brains all over this pavement!" He yelled, placing the gun in John's mouth. "Say I won't do it, I dare you."
I looked up at Leo and couldn't help the giant smile from creeping across my lips. "I'm starting to like this guy." Whoever he is, he's cool with me. Leo looked at me like I was crazy but I just shrugged.
"Okay! Okay fine! I'll go! Just get that fucking thing away from me." John finally broke.
"Great, glad we got that fixed." The guy placed his gun back in his carrier before pulling out something else. "Turn around and put your hands on your back."
Casey snickered, "A cop?" Wait a minute...
"I guess so." Donnie said before he snapped his finger. "The boyfriend!"
John groaned, "Why the hell are you arresting me for?! I didn't do anything!"
"Besides making false accusations? Yeah you did." He began to handcuff him. "I got a list of things you did."
"You don't have shit!"
"Assault of an officer, resisting arrest, public intoxication...need I go on?"
"Assault- I didn't even touch you!" John yelled as he was shoved into the back of this guy's car.
"My word against yours." He said before slamming the door shut. "You have the right to remain silent." He said before stepping inside the car and shutting the door.
When the car sped away, we all just sort of stood there in shock and awe. I was happy that I got to keep the promise I didn't make to Lilly, I'm also happy I got to watch someone beat the crap out of... I suddenly frowned. "Damn..." I can't beat him now. "Well, I feel unsatisfied."
Casey nodded, "Now what?"
Leo shook his head, "Now we go home and wait." Just then his cell began to vibrate. "It's April... Hey April,"
Casey came over to me, giving me a small shove. "You should tell them now." He whispered.
My eyes widened in horror, my hands grabbing him by the shirt pulling him away from the ears of everyone. "Are you insane? Now is the worst time to do anything."
"Why? They obviously know that you care about her. They won't get mad at you." He urged with a small smile.
"Why do you care so much?"
He shrugged, "Its only fair your family know who you're dating."
"I don't even know why you were so quick to come her. I mean you don't even like Lillian."
"I never said I didn't like her. She's just annoying." He sighed, scratching the back of his head. "Okay look, truth is, she's not on my good side. But just because I don't like her, doesn't mean I want bad shit to happen to her. I'm still going to try and save her if she needs to be saved."
"Okay, doesn't explain why you want me to blurt out the fact that we're together."
"If you don't think keeping a secret that big away from your family is wrong, then I guess I have nothing to say anymore." He said before slowly backing away. "It's your choice dude." He said with a shrug.
Damnit! Why is everyone begging me to tell everyone my business? Lilly, Casey, even April, only person that hasn't done anything yet is Donnie. Maybe they're right, I should tell Leo- this whole time I've been so obvious, I'd be surprised if they don't even suspect anything between us. And if I tell everyone it'll be another weight off my shoulders... Fuck. I'll think about it.
"Guys," Leo called, hanging up the phone. "Lilly's home." He said before looking up and glaring at me. "And she wants to see Raph."
Everyone turned their attention on me, I couldn't help but snicker as if he were joking. Play it off, Raphael. Just play it off. "Just me?"
Leo nodded slowly, "Wonder why? Seems like you two have been getting awfully close lately." He growled, crossing his hands over his chest.
"Okay? What's your point?"
"I hope you're not getting involved with her."
I scoffed, "Involved? You make it sound like she's dangerous."
"No, but we are."
"No we're not." Donnie jumped in, catching me and everyone else off guard. "Leo, if Raph and Lilly are dating, it's their business. Why do you have to make it seem like we have a disease that could kill her?"
"We do, it's called the Shredder, the Krangg, the Foot. If any of them found out we were with people, they'd use them to get to us. And if Raph was with Lilly, it would be our business as a team and as a family." He snapped walking over to Donnie and getting in his face.
"You guys are overreacting." Mikey laughed. "Look at Lilly and look at Raph, he's too ugly to be dating her!"
"Me?" I chuckled. "I'm-"
"No no, he's right." Casey joked, holding out his hand for Mikey to slap it.
"This is serious!" Leo yelled. "You can't date a human girl."
I laughed at his stupidity. He's not the boss of me. "I can do whatever I want. You don't like it, fine. But let's say I am dating Lilly and we've been together for...I don't know, 5 months. Do you honestly think I want your approval?"
"No. But you being with someone is just selfish on your part. You're with someone for your own good, you're not even thinking about her. You're thinking about yourself. Then, next thing we know, she's captured and we have to risk our lives for her."
I growled, clenching my fists and pressing them against my sides. "What are we doing now? Risking our lives for Lillian."
"Yes but this is not life or death. If it's with the Shredder or the Krangg, then we either save her or she dies. We could all let her deal with her problems by herself but we don't because-"
"We're family, according to you."
He sighed, "We are... But we're here because we all know you like Lillian, we all know how much she means to you. But you can't let your feelings get in the way-"
"Fuck you, Leo. You're a fucking hypocrite. Giving me a lecture when you're the one flirting with the Foot? I don't think so." I turned around, finding it necessary that I leave or I beat the shit out of him. "I can't tell if you're bitter or jealous that there's a possibility Lilly could actually have feelings for me."
"There's a difference between flirting and actually getting involved-"
Before he finished his bullshit sentence I jumped over to the other building, not really wanting to bash his face in right now. I really need to see Lillian before I snap.
This is bullshit...
Please ignore all the problems and mistakes. I'll see you real soon!
