"Julie, can we talk for a moment in private." MIke asks as he watches Kate go to the bathroom. Julie leads him to a private family room that is on the ward, a place they are able to talk in private, she flicks the sign over to say in use so that others know someone is in that room and not to come in.

"What's up Mike." She asks, as they both have taken a seat within the room, the door having already been closed and locked.

"It's in regards to Kate, we can afford whatever care she needs, money is no option for us. If there are options, medications, doctors that can only be gotten via private and with money don't be afraid to call them in." he says to her, Julie hears the emotion in Mike's voice. SHe knows this is a hard time but she also knows how expensive this could get for them. It's not a cheap way to go about looking after Kate.

"Mike that sort of thing costs thousands. Not three figures sums Mike but can be up to six figure sums, even more depending on how bad things go and what is needed, you do realise lose that and even then you could throw hundreds of thousands of dollars into this Mike and still both babies and Kate. Money can't buy her body recovery time."

"I understand that money can't buy you everything, and normally I wouldn't be asking but being a mum for Kate is everything. I would never ask you to put Kate's life on the line to save those two very much wanted babies she is carrying. I offered just in case you knew of something that maybe of help or another doctor that you may want to call in that is private and wouldn't normally be called in, that there is money there, that you don't have to worry about what is funded and what isn't, if she needs it give her to her and give me the bill and you will have the money in your bank there and then."

"Normally I wouldn't be worried but she not long ago nearly died, you do know how serious her injuries were, don't you? I know she is cleared to work and that she is healthy which is a god send, but still she coded three times on Melbourne, that alone can cause unknown issues and damage not just to her heart but her organs as well, then there were the injuries to her liver, and spleen, we honestly have no idea how the stress of a pregnancy will do on her body, we know what it is like without adding on what she has gone through, we know the effect a multiple pregnancy has on a body, that is a massive strain."
"Yes I do, I was informed of just how badly injured she was, including how many times she coded. I know I'm bloody lucky to still have my wife alive." Mike states to her knowing that when on Melbourne they in fact lost her, but got her back.

"Mike I wouldn't be doing any of this if I didn't think it was needed. Yes we are living in a time where things are more possible than say five years ago, even ten years ago. But being fit to return to work and being fit to carry a baby are two different things. The list of things that could go wrong is too long to even consider or think about even without what happened before she became pregnant. I don't want to do this Mike, but I honestly do not think her body will handle growing two little ones as well as care for itself."

"We understand where you are coming from Julie. I just wanted you to understand that if you need money to give this more of a chance to be possible then we have it, you don't have to sit there figuring it out, finding what is and isn't funded that could help her get through this."

"I appreciate that Mike it means alot to know that I don't have limits."

The two leave the room and head to the room Kate is now assigned too.

"What did Julie and you talk about?" Kate asks him once the two are alone on her bed, curled up with each other. The bliss of becoming parents now being replaced with fear and worry.

"I talked to her about options letting her know that she doesn't have to worry if a drug or a doctor is funded or not, that we have the money to cover whatever she wants or needs to do to get you through this pregnancy."

"Mike." Kate says to him he can hear her underlying meaning.

"Kate, you know I am wealthy, no I mean we are wealthy, we have shit loads of money honey it won't matter what it costs us. It won't affect how things are now or change things. Why not let her know, if it means we can keep this pregnancy going then why the hell not use it to give us better advantages. Gives you the chance to be a mother, I told you that one day I would make you a mother no matter the cost, if paying for the best in the country to care for you is what it takes then that is what I will do."

"But Mike that could lead into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Have you really thought about how much it would cost to have me in care for the next seven months." Kate says to him not sure what to think about his statement of them having money to just throw away on her and a pregnancy that is going to be a problem for her and the baby. She knows her internal organs are still recovering from her shooting.

"Yes Kate I do know, have you looked at our bank account online at all?" He asks her, he knows she has access to the accounts as they both went in and had her added to his accounts so that everything was in their name including the house.

"To be honest I just look at our spending joint account to make sure there is enough money in it before I spent money, I haven't looked at any of the others."

Mike opens his phone and pulls up his mobile banking app and logs in to it, and then shows her their other accounts, their joint spending account is where their Navy salary goes.

"WHAT THE HELL." Kate says, being totally shocked at what she is seeing on his phone.

"Mike?" She says to him, she is not sure how to ask or what to ask.

"Family money honey, My grandparents were rich, they had their own business that made them that way, mum and dad have shares in the business, so do I. Why do you think when we first went under I was so used to all the nice things, all the things money can buy, I grew up with money, but I also grew up knowing that it doesn't grow on trees and that you need to respect it, and earn it as well. Mum and dad worked as well so I didn't see why I couldn't work as well. They would only buy what was needed and when they did buy they always got the best, but they never just spent the money for the sake of spending the money. Over time you end up earning so much interest that you can live off that so easy, then it just gets bigger and bigger. Because mine has just been sitting and not being used as I use my Navy salary for my day to day living and expenses, it has now at what you see it at, ninety percent is invested, the rest sits there for emergencies or things like this right now.."

"You did tell me you had money but what I thought and what it really is is by far very different." She says he gets what she is meaning.

"It is why I said what I said that day when we went back under cover, I knew no matter the cost I could make you a mother whether it was via having our own, adoption, or even surrogate ." The two just lay there. Kate taking in what he has just said about other options, things she hadn't thought about either. Her brain being on a baby she carries of Mike and her DNA.

Several days later.

"Ok you two we have the test results back, they are good and bad. The twins they are doing ok, one is as per normal doing better than the other, the problem is you Kate, the bloods we have been taking compared with those this morning, are showing that they are sucking a lot out of you. Even with the transfusion, and IV's we have been giving you are not helping you. We now do need to seriously consider that reduction Kate, we try and see if we can then keep you going with just the one. But it is your choice, but I can tell you now that if you proceed with carrying these twins, you are going to end up very sick and losing both these babies. You could even lose your own life as well." Julie says to them.

The three sit there, Mike and Kate look at each other and Julie just watches as the two just look at each other, the odd facial expression showing, she has no idea what is going on with the two of them, if the crew was there they would know they are having one of their silent conversations. Ones that the crew know they have often, along with many other conversations including throat ribbing debates.

"Julie go ahead with the reduction, when will it be secluded to be done?" Kate asks.

"I'll go look and let you know when we can do it." Julie says as she heads off to get it all organised for them.

"We tried honey." Mike says to her and they sit there holding her.

"I know we did but still doesn't make it any easier to deal with."

"No it doesn't." He says to her.

The following day Julie does the procedure which goes without a hitch, they motor Kate over the coming week keeping her in hospital just to make sure she was doing ok and that there weren't any compilations. She gets sent home a week later.

Over the next few months Kate is monitored closely by Julie, Kate keeps working as much as she can, and at times has to get IV infusions to help her body cope with the pregnancy. When Kate hits the seven month mark her blood work starts to go down hill, and so does her health. Julie admits Kate and gives her steroids for the baby, Kate only makes another week and they have no choice but to deliver the baby, they decide on an emergency c-section, they organise it all and within thirty minutes she is wheeled in to the OR to deliver.

They deliver a 4lb 6oz, baby girl, the NICU takes over care of her and they rush her straight up to the NICU unit.

As expected during surgery Kate had trouble clotting again, they were prepared this time as tests had shown there may be a clotting issue again for her. They get her through surgery, and take her straight to ICU, they had already prepared them all for the fact their baby would go to NICU, and that Kate herself may need to go to ICU as well.

Mike visits his newborn daughter in the NICU, they have wires and tubes all hooked up to her. He knew about all of this beforehand, having had all this gone through with both of them a week ago. They rang his parents then as well and informed them along with Steve Marshall who was on the first flight back up to Cairns to be on hand at NAVCOM so Mike could take all the time he needed to be with Kate through this difficult time for them both.

6 WEEKS LATER

Baby Emily May Flynn is finally allowed to come home, she has been doing well for being seven weeks early. She now weighs 6lb 5oz. Feeding well and putting weight on.

"I never thought I would ever get to see this day." Kate says as she stares at her daughter, as she lays in her crib, sound asleep, Mike behind her with his arms wrapped around her.

"I knew it would happen one day." he replies back to her, as he lays a few kisses along her shoulder blade.

"Honestly when I was laying in that backyard bleeding out, I honestly thought I was going to die Mike. Well I did die later, but while laying there all I could think about was that I hadn't had a baby, hadn't become a mother, hadn't married you for real, hadn't gotten to grow old with you, the only good thing was that we had spent that time together before hand, I had at least gotten to call you my husband even if it was the job. It reminded me of that day in your cabin on board Hammersley, the conversation we had that day." she says as tears fall down her face, as she thinks about to nearly losing it all, Miek turns her around and hugs her, before he then picks her up and takes her to their room where they lay down together holding each other, the contact reminding both of them that they are still alive, that they are still here together.

All those prefer moments together that have been scattered out over the last ten years finally coming together, finally they are able to become something more, than some amazing times together, it's become more than just a working relationship. For them it's more than just a relationship, they both know deep down they are soul mates, meant to be together. And now they are finally doing it for real, not because they have to pretend to be married, pretend to be in love, and pretend to be doing a job for the government, they can do as they please together as they are together, Married for real, with Kate taking Mike's last name.

They both still have dreams of that night with everyone, the night she was shot, the night where Mike though he has lost his only true love, the only person who he knew could tear him away from the sea, and Hammersley, no one par Steve knew the real reason Hammersley become his wife, she become his wife because he knew there be no one else but Kate who he could love, and them being split up torn him apart, broke his heart he knew his boat couldn't hurt him in the same manner. Somehow they never seemed to have their nightmares at the same time, they did talk about them to each other, and this helped.

Two years after baby Emily Flynn was born Kate learnt she was pregnant again, and of course they were surprised to learn she was carrying twins again. She went on bed rest at 26 weeks after a few signs of early labour, she did as she was told, but at 32 weeks she was admitted into hospital, they gave her drugs to help the babies lungs nad to try and keep those babies in longer, she made it to 36weeks before they had no choice but to deliver as her waters had broken, she was able to deliver them bot naturally which was a big wish but she did know that is may not happen, they welcomes two boys, first was Chris Ben Flynn weighing in at 5oz 3lbs, Alan Ross Flynn was second weighing in at 5oz 8lbs.

For Mike and Kate they were a family, a happy family, with a massive amount of love and support around them. They were about to change their future which looked like it was going to be like their past into something far more fitting for the two of them, instead of amazing moments here and there, it was field with amazing moments everyday in their home that they shared with their three children, and Mike's parents who had decided to move to Cairns to help look after their grandkids, they could see when Kate was at home with Emily, that she missed working, they also learnt over time Kate wasn't a fan of the money, that she wanted to help provide for their family by working too. Cause of Kate and how she felt and they knew Mike had chosen a wonderful person to marry so it made the choice of moving and supporting them so much more easier. It allowed Kate to go back to work without the cost of child care, though with the twins Kate stayed home longer than she did with Emily, she knew they would be a handful for her inlaws, they were a handful for Mike and herself. She did employ some extra help at home, as she knew that she was returning to Hammersley soon, she knew staying away from Hammersley wasn't good, but she also knew the longer she stayed at home the harder it be for the kids. Of course when the twins were ten months old, she had no choice but to return. She returned knowing everything was in hand at home, well she hoped so. Leaving Mike in charge she knew wouldn't always be good but she trusted him, she now just had to learn to trust her new XO who she hadn't had a chance to work with yet, or get to know. The only good thing was Dutchy was back and he had worked with the new XO, she trusted Dutchy so she decided if Dutchy can trust him she had to, even if her gut was telling her something else.
