When they arrived at the ED, Fenisha had to be checked over, while Siena was taken the Paediatrics to be assessed. Fenisha was given the all-clear quickly, and while she was waiting for them to discharge Siena (who was also fine) Will went to arrange paternity leave. He still felt slightly bad about it, seeing as he wasn't the baby's biological father, but Ethan had told him very clearly that it would be awkward for him to be the father.
When he came out of Connie's office, he spotted Ethan.
"Ethan!"
"Will,"
"Come on," he said, pulling Ethan towards Paeds.
"Where are we going?"
Will rolled his eyes. "Erm, is it not obvious?" He said as they went to where Fenisha was with baby Siena.
"Siena Rose Khatri, meet your uncle Ethan!"
"Will, be quiet, she's asleep," his girlfriend whispered.
"Sorry," he replied guiltily.
"Wow she's beautiful. She looks just like you," Ethan said. "You're giving her Fenisha's surname," he noticed.
Will nodded. "It just seems right to, you know?"
Ethan nodded. "Congratulations. I mean it,"
He had to agree, it felt right. Although she didn't feel a lot like his, he knew that it was fair, and that this was the best outcome for all of them. At least he would still be able to see her a lot.
"I need to get the car," Will said. Oh no, I need to go home to get the car..."
"I'll drive you," Ethan suggested.
"Thank you Ethan, you're a life saver. Wait aren't you on shift?"
"I'll take my break early. It'll be fine."
"If you're going back, could you get my coat? And this little one's coat? And some socks and a blanket? Oh, and make sure the baby seat is in the car,"
Will smiled. "Yes, I know," he said.
Siena was currently in a blanket from the hospital, and considering it was probably about to snow, it really wasn't warm enough, even if they were only driving home.
About half an hour later, Will arrived back at the hospital. By now, the news of Siena's birth was known to all of their friends, although only Robyn had been to visit. They knew that the family would want some space, although it was nice for Fenisha to talk to Robyn. Will guessed that the 'New Baby' cards would be piling in by the time everyone had recovered from the night shift.
Will carefully removed the hospital blanket from Siena, and together, with Fenisha, they put on her nightgown he had brought, along with her coat, hat and socks. They needed to be careful not to let her overheat, but as it was November there didn't seem to be a very high chance of that.
It had started to snow as they walked out of the hospital. Beautiful, tiny flakes drifted down from the dark night sky. Will put his arm around Fenisha.
"You're freezing," he commented.
She shrugged. "What do you expect? It's snowing."
He nodded, carefully cradling Siena. Fenisha had told him to carry her; she was still exhausted from labour, and the lack of sleep, and didn't want to take any chances with her daughter.
They carefully placed her in the car seat, and out the blanket over her, before strapping her in and checking the car seat was on properly.
When they arrived at the darkened flat, Will gently shook his girlfriend awake. He didn't want to wake her, but he needed to. She yawned. "Where's Siena?" She asked suddenly.
"In the back. She's fine."
As if on cue, Siena started to cry.
"She's probably hungry," Fenisha noted.
Will nodded. "Let's get her in,"
They had a thermometer in her room, as Will knew that babies were meant to sleep in a room from 16-20 degrees- they can't control their body temperatures.
As Will had installed a smart heater, which kept the house at a controlled temperature, he checked it was set to 18 degrees.
Before Fenisha could feed Siena, they put a nighttime nappy on, so they didn't need to change it during what was left of the night.
Fenisha fed Siena until she fell asleep, when they placed her in the ivory cot.
Then, they crept into their room next door, and grabbed whatever sleep was possible before they were woken up.
