Sometimes, when you look for something, it could possibly be deemed impossible to find. On the other hand, when you aren't looking for that thing, it can usually be found right in front of you.
Or, when we are looking for that thing, we don't realise that it can be seen right in front of us, in a place so simple or in a place hidden from the human eye, that we simply look past it.
It could be said to be the same with love.
It was certainly very much the same with this young individual.
Sam sat in her room, caressing the blood pouring out of her nose, it was fine, it would stop soon, her mom hadn't hit her that hard. She had had much worse injuries to cover up.
The only person who knew about Sam's injuries was a person who might have been least expected, but in a lot of cases, most expected. He had known, that Sam's mom caused her grief in a lot of ways, but never knew about the physical pain she put her through.
Flashback
Freddie had been sitting in his room, finishing his homework. He had been out with his mom at a mother and son ballet class. Lately he had managed to avoid these majorly embarrassing activities, but that day there was nothing he could do to get out of it. He had been on the last paragraph of his English essay, when he heard it.
"Psstt"
It had come from his window, leading out to the fire escape. The only person who knew how to get there, and had the skill and ability, was his rambunctious friend Sam. He looked over and saw her in the moonlight. He grinned, looking at her beautiful windswept hair and bright eyes. She grinned back, but when he came closer to help her inside, he saw she was hiding pain in those eyes, hiding a grimace under the grin.
"Hey, you ok?" He said when he caught sight of the tear streaked porcelain skin.
"Freddie I, I came here for.. for help." She looked him straight in the eyes, before sitting down on the bed. He sat beside her, wondering what could be so wrong it could have made her cry.
They both stared deep into each other's eyes, the trust between them evident.
"My mom..." Sam struggled to finish her sentence.
"Well, I guess it would be easier to show you."
She peeled off her ripped shirt at the shoulder blade, to reveal a a large cut that was sticking to the shirt. It was still bleeding, soaking the material.
"Your mom?" He said softly.
She nodded, pressing her lips together in an attempt to stop the flow of tears threatening to spill.
It was an unspoken rule that nobody would speak of this, or Sam's injuries. Freddie knew that Sam would come forward when she was ready, but for now it would stay between them, Freddie being Sam's comfort.
End of flashback.
Sam knew that when she was hurt, she knew she could go to Freddie. It's just she didn't know this time, there was the corona virus around, and they were on the brink of lockdown.
She fished out her phone, handling the blood flowing out of her nose with one hand.
Freddie answered the phone immediately.
"Freddie my nose.." she said thickly.
"Can you manage getting round to Bushwell?"
"Yeah, I was just wondering if you would want me there, you know, with the um coronavirus and stuff."
Freddie laughed, noticing the girl being considerate for once.
"Well, I think this is a bit of a necessary trip so..."
"Ok I'll be over in 5"
Freddie got Sam cleaned up, and gave her the comfort she needed.
"I'm guessing you're staying the night?"
"You got it Benson," she yawned. She had ended up with a few bruises on her delicate nose, but those would clear up in a few days.
It was not something out of the ordinary that Sam would sleep in the same bed as Freddie. This was strictly only for the times that she had gotten hurt though.
They both drifted into a peaceful sleep. Sam had to wake up Freddie a few times during the night either because she kept dreaming of what had happened that day or because her nose was bleeding again. Nothing out of the ordinary happened until about 5:30am.
Freddie was just done cleaning up Sam's latest nosebleed, she was now taking photos with Freddie's camera of her blood stained hands, choosing a murderous expression to define her photos. Freddie laughed at her antics, before checking the time on his phone.
