Season 1, Chapter 6: Game Balance? What's That?

I had an interesting dream last night.

I was sharing a bed with Megumin for some reason. I don't know how or why, but it felt really nice. It seemed so real, like I felt like that I actually holding Megumin and I was even somehow able to smell her wonderfully pleasing scent!

Well, a man can certainly dream... time to get up and start the day!

I opened my eyes and tried to stretch out my arms.

"Mmm..." Something was gripping onto my right arm, holding me down.

What the hell? Was Aqua in my bed? That was the only possibility, as she was the only other one in the room with me last night...

Why the hell was Aqua in my bed?! She got really drunk last night, and then... what the fuck happened after that?! Don't tell me that she... that we...

I slowly turned my head down in fear.

Instead of seeing blue, I was seeing red. MEGUMIN?!

What the fuck?!

Oh. That's right, I remember now. Megumin came over last night at fucking 3 A.M. because she was scared. Ah, that's right. Everything makes sense now!

I smiled as I started to lightly stroke her back with my hand.

"Mmm... Kazuma." She murmured contently.

Heh, how cute.

"Kazuma... it's so big..." Megumin whispered softly, still asleep.

Say what?

"Its girth is perfect..." She subconsciously made a gripping motion with her hand.

The fuck?!

"Kazuma, this new staff is perfect for buffing up my explosions!"

Jesus Christ, Megumin. You really had me in the first half, not gonna lie.

Wait a second, Aqua will no doubt freak out when she sees-

"Megumin?! Kazuma?! Kazuma, what's Megumin doing in your bed?!" Aqua yelled out in shock.

Ah shit. She was already awake, huh?

"Uh, listen-" I started to say.

"You don't have to say anything! It looks like you've finally shown your true colors, you loli-manic!" Aqua screamed out, pointing her finger at me accusingly.

"At least give me a chance to explain-"

"Loli-con! Pedo-NEET! Kazuma, you're a disgrace to humanity!"

BITCH! LET ME FUCKING EXPLAIN!

"Haaa~" Megumin yawned as she woke up. She went up into a sitting position and stretched out her arms.

"Oh, Megumin. Poor, poor Megumin. I hope Kazuma didn't violate you too badly," Aqua said, sniffling.

MOTHERFUCKER!

"Huh?" Megumin said, looking around. "Eh?"

Come on, Megumin! Do something! Damn it, this whole operation was your idea!

"Kazuma...?" She turned to look at me, suddenly aware of the tense situation.

Say something else! This is the part where you look at Aqua and clear my name!

"What...? What happened last night? We..." Megumin started to blush heavily.

Then she suddenly clutched at her chest with her hands and quickly ran out the room.

GOD.

FUCKING.

DAMN.

IT.

"I knew it! Kazuma, you really are a loli-con! Megumin! Wait!" Aqua ran out of the room as well, no doubt to catch up to Megumin.

And now I was alone in the room.

AGHHHHHHHH! I really wanted to punch something right now! How did this even happen?!

Whatever. Fuck it. This was a good time to reflect on the thoughts that I had last night.

Who was Megumin?

Girl. Crimson Demon. Cute. Petite. Shy. Red hair. Has an Explosion complex. Boobs seems to be nonexistent.

Well, that certainly isn't helpful. Maybe I asked the wrong question.

Who was Megumin to me?

Oh shit. Here we go.

Umm... was she a friend?

I don't think friends would share the same bed together, so it must be something more...?

A lover, then?

NO! Definitely not! There was no way that our relationship was at that stage.

A waifu?

Okay, now you're just trolling yourself, Kazuma. How could she be "the one" when I haven't even seen what else this world had to offer yet?

In the end, I came to the grand conclusion of...

I don't know.

I really don't know. This was way too confusing for me. Hell, I don't even know if Megumin actually likes me or not! Maybe she just sees me as an invaluable friend!

I tucked these thoughts away again.

I decided to wait. Maybe as time goes on, I'd be able to come to a conclusion...

For now though, I think I'll go to the Guild Hall for something to eat.

KONOSUBA!

On my way there, I pulled out my adventurer's card again. It looked something like this:

Satou Kazuma - Level: 10 - Class: Advanced Adventurer

Skills and Abilities:

Lurk

Detect Enemy

Steal

Morale Boost

Assassinate

Shatter Defenses

Available Skills to Learn (4 Skill Points Available):

Nature's Beauty - 9 Skill Points

Explosion - 34 Skill Points

Headshot - 4 Skill Points

Take Aim - 4 Skill Points

Shallow Grave - 7 Skill Points

Mana Recovery - 4 Skill Points

It appears that I've leveled up two times from killing that alligator. Sweet! Considering the fact that I didn't have any sort of ranged weapon right now, I decided to learn Mana Recovery. It should help me avoid passing out again like yesterday, and it should help Megumin out too after she's casted Explosion.

I put my card away and walked into the Guild Hall.

Oh. It looks like the rest of my party was already here. I sat down with them.

Aqua and Megumin quickly looked away. Darkness gave me a confused stare.

"So." I began.

Silence.

"Did Megumin not explain everything?" I asked Aqua.

"Kazuma!" Aqua turned to face me. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry for calling you those names! You were just trying to comfort Megumin! I spoke without realizing what had happened, please forgive me!"

Well, that deescalated quickly.

"It's alright, useless goddess. You are forgiven." I replied.

"Thank you, Kazuma- wait, what did you just call-"

I turned to face Megumin, cutting her off.

"How are you feeling?" I asked her.

"Uh... good..." She replied, looking down at the ground, blushing.

"Kazuma? What in the world happened?" Darkness asked me, super confused.

"Don't worry about it!" I quickly replied.

"But-"

"Hey! Waitress! One plate of fried fish please!" I called out, effectively changing the subject.

After we had eaten, I pulled out the bag containing the 8 million Eris from yesterday and split it equally among my party.

"Wow, I didn't expect this of you, Kazuma." Darkness looked at me in surprise.

"What? Expect what?" I said in confusion.

"I thought that since you were the one that caught all the fish, you'd keep all the money for yourself." She explained.

I looked at Aqua and Megumin. They all nodded their heads in agreement to what Darkness had said.

"Seriously? I only did that quest so that our party could get more money! What kind of person do you think I am?!"

"The kind that steals panties from innocent girls," Darkness said, deadpan.

...

She had a point.

...

"Do you want the 2 million Eris or not?!" I tried to desperately change the subject.

"I do! I do! Think of all the alcohol I could buy!" Aqua exclaimed as she took the money, and then quickly ran out of the Guild Hall.

Okay, I REALLY needed to get her a therapist or something.

"Kazuma... I've never had this much money before... what should do I do?" Megumin looked up to me in awe, her hands tightly clutching the coin bag.

"Do whatever you want! Just try to spend it wisely, alright?" I smiled as I replied back.

"Thank you, Kazuma!" Megumin gushed out as she left the Guild Hall as well.

"Thank you as well, Kazuma." Darkness said to me with a smile.

"You're welcome! Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'll go exploring around the town a little bit." I replied happily.

"Would you like me to show you around?" Darkness offered politely.

"Thanks for the offer, but I'd like to go alone today. I like the feeling of discovering something new."

Actually, that was a lie. What I really wanted to do was to check out a certain place that a male adventurer told me about last night. I mean, if this place really existed...

"Well then, have fun!" Darkness gave me a thumbs up.

"Thanks," I turned to leave when suddenly I was face-to-face with Mitsurugi Kyouya.

"Satou Kazuma! I've been looking for you!" He said out of breath.

Ha, look at how pathetic you look without your sword!

"What for? Do you need something?"

"I'll get straight to the point," He said as he bowed to me. "I know that I'm in no position to ask you for a favor, but could you please return my sword back to me? In return, I'll buy you any other sword you want!"

AHAHAHAHA! HE DOESN'T KNOW!

"Why should I? Didn't your girls tell you that I requested to keep the sword after I won that duel?" I tried not to laugh as I talked.

"I know, but that sword means the world to me! Please give it back, I'll do anything!" He begged.

Oh my god this was too fucking hilarious!

"Well, I don't currently possess the sword anymore."

"What?!" Kyouya's eyes widened. "Kazuma, where is my Cursed Sword Gram?!"

An idea suddenly popped into my mind.

"I'll tell you for a million Eris," I told him.

"WHAT?!"

"Well, I mean, I could just not tell you. I have no obligation to, after all. You want information, you'll have to pay up. One million Eris. Take it or leave it." I gave him an ultimatum.

"Fine!" He said as he pulled his coin bag and gave me the money. "Now, where is my sword?!"

Jesus, that was easy. Maybe I should've asked him for more!

"Go visit the blacksmith. If you're lucky, maybe the sword hasn't melted fully yet." I said knowing full well what had happened to the sword.

"WHAT?!" Kyouya screamed as he started running. "DAMN YOU, KAZUMA!"

I started to laugh uncontrollably. Oh my fucking gods. That shit was way too fucking funny! I think that just made my day! One million Eris, just like that!

"Um, Kazuma, what was that all about? Did that have something to do with the duel yesterday? Speaking of the duel, what even happened? You won against him?" Darkness launched a string of questions at me in bewilderment.

"Don't worry about it," I said, still laughing. "Well, I'll be on my way now."

I exited the hall, calming down. I took a breath of fresh air as I started to walk towards my destination.

I had 3.2 Million Eris now, huh? I could still remember the first day that I came into this world with nothing but a useless goddess. Look at how far I've come since then!

I couldn't help but feel proud. From zero to hero, baby!

I whistled happily as I continued to walk towards my destination. Ah, that should be the alleyway up ahead.

I peeked my head in.

Holy shit, it actually existed?! Succubi actually existed in this world?! Holy mother of god this is fucking awesome!

I walked into the alley and put my hand on the door handle to the shop.

"Emergency! Emergency! All adventurers, please gather at the front gate immediately! I repeat, all adventurers, please gather at the front gate immediately!" Luna's voice rang out through the speakers in the town.

Lol fuck that, I'm sure it'll be alright if I don't show up this one time. I prepared to open the door.

"Especially Satou Kazuma and his party, please report to the front gate immediately!" Luna's voice rang out again, sounding stressed.

Are you fucking serious right now?

I begrudgingly walked out of that alleyway. I'll be back for you, I promise!

Now, time to see who the fuck interrupted my fun time.

KONOSUBA!

Well shit it was Beldia again.

I slowly made my way into the front of the crowd. Ah, it looks like the rest of my party was already here. Hmm, the Dullahan seemed to be saying something.

"You're asking me why I came here? I should be asking you people why you didn't come to my castle! I've been waiting for a whole week! Do you people have no respect for your fellow adventurer's life?!" He shouted out from the top of his horse.

"What? What the heck are you even talking about?" Aqua shouted back at him.

"The party leader that I cursed, of course! He meaninglessly suffered for a week in pain, and not even one of his party members came forth to my castle! Have you people no decency?! That brave party leader who's name I don't even know died in vain! And yet you people act like nothing has happened!" Beldia angrily explained.

"Oh, you mean me? Hai Hai, I'm Kazuma." I said to him as I stepped into his field of view.

"Eh?" His eyes widened.

"WHAT THE HECK?!" He shouted out in suprise.

"Oh Kazuma, you're here!" Aqua turned to face me. "Don't tell me that this stupid Dullahan actually waited for a whole week with no idea that we dispelled his Death Curse as soon as he left! That's hilarious! That's super hilarious!"

Aqua started to laugh in the Dullahan's face, mocking him.

Shit, I really don't think that is a good idea.

"Are you taunting me?! If I felt like it, I could massacre everyone in this city!" Beldia declared menacingly.

OH SHIT!

I had no doubts about his statement. He was a Demon King General and he looked powerful as hell. If he decided to go on the attack, we might all be fucked!

Any hope that I had for this world's game balance was gone. It's beyond shit. Like. Beyond beyond shit.

I mean, seriously?! You're asking a level 10 adventurer to take on a fucking GENERAL?!

Let's fucking do it! My tryhard instincts kicked in as I tried to formulate a plan to defeat him.

Well, I guess I'll finally test out the true wombo combo: Assassinate + Shatter Defenses + Explosion!

I turned to face Megumin. "Got your Explosion ready?" I asked her quickly.

"Um...yeah..." She whispered quietly as she looked down, blushing heavily.

God damn it not this shit again! This better not be about last night! Maybe I really did need to stop doing those things with Megumin!

"Okay, good. Get ready to use it on my word." I turned back to look at the Dullahan again.

Time to cast Assassinate-

Wait.

My gamer instincts told me that something was off. Beldia was a General. What if he had some bullshit trick up his sleeve? Hmm... did spell reflection exist in this world?

"Mana recovery!" I yelled as tried out my new skill.

A blue beam of light shot out towards him and hit his armor.

Then it instantly rebounded and hit me in the chest. I felt my mana going up.

"What? What was that for? What were you hoping to accomplish by casting Mana Recovery at me? Anyhow, it doesn't matter, for my armor reflects all spells and magic!" Beldia boasted.

Sigh. Just like I thought. Thank gods I didn't cast Assassinate first.

So he had spell reflection. That's fine, back in my games, spell reflection only worked on single target spells, so Area of Effects spells like Explosion should work on him fine.

I should probably test it out, though, just in case.

"Hey, Aqua, do you have any AOE spells?" I asked her.

"Hmm? Yeah! I totally do! Look! Turn Undead!" Aqua exclaimed as she casted the spell on the Dullahan.

Wait a fucking minute you dumbass! What if it got reflected?! I guess I got lucky this time, as that spell only affected the undead.

A heavenly circle opened up under Beldia.

Wait sweet! It didn't get reflected! Let's fucking go!

Then the circle suddenly shifted over to be underneath us.

I suddenly got blasted by a wave of holy light that made me go temporarily blind.

God fucking damn it! AOE spell reflection?! That's bullshit!

When I could see again, I looked through the stumbling crowd. Hopefully no one went blind or anything.

"AHHHHH!" A lady wearing purple shopkeeper's clothes screamed as she suddenly collapsed on the ground.

She looked to be fading away.

What the fuck? Was my eyes playing tricks on me?

"You absolute idiots! I just told you that my armor reflected all magic, didn't I? And yet, you people have the audacity to fire another spell at me! Are you taunting me?! You dare taunt a Demon King General?! Very well then, I shall take all of you on personally!" Beldia said as he got off his horse.

He unsheathed his sword and started to slowly walk towards us.

What the fuck man?! Straight to the boss battle?! What happened to fighting his underlings or something?! This is bullshit! Hacks! I call hacks!

I mean, FUCK! My plan just got turned completely upside down! I couldn't use magic against him, and I sure as fuck can't man-fight him, so what the fuck was I supposed to do? Damn it, Explosion was supposed to be my trump card!

Wait a second, if Megumin casted Explosion at him because she was so trigger happy...

And it got reflected back on us...

OH.

SHIT.

"Megumin! Oi! Megumin!" I called out to her.

Why the fuck was she still staring at the ground?!

I rushed over so that I was right next to her.

"OI! MEGUMIN!" I shouted at her.

She appears to have not heard me, still lost in her thoughts.

For fucks sake, I didn't have time for this shit!

"LISTEN UP!" I grabbed her face with my hands and forcefully turned it so that her eyes met mine.

"Eh...? Kazuma? Consider the time and place..." Megumin shyly mumbled out, her red eyes looking away.

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU ON?!

I turned to look at the Dullahan. FUCK MAN HE'S GETTING REALLY CLOSE!

"Darkness! Go distract him! Buy me some time!" I shouted out to her. I didn't want to send her out, but at this point I had no choice. The rest of the crowd looked to be paralyzed in fear. Fucking useless.

"Oh! Kazuma! With pleasure!" She moaned out in response as she made her way to the Dullahan.

Okay, good. That bought me sometime. Back to Megumin.

"Alright, listen," I said to her face. "Under NO circumstances are you to cast Explosion today, got it?"

"Huh?! Wait, why?!" She looked surprised.

WHAT THE FUCK!? WERE YOU NOT PAYING ANY ATTENTION?! HOLY SHIT!

"BECAUSE BELDIA CAN REFLECT ALL MAGIC, YOU DUMB EXPLOSION LOLI!" I screamed out, tired of her bullshit.

"Kazuma, you're not your usual self..." Megumin tried to pull away from me, scared.

OH FUCK OFF! THERE'S A FUCKING DEMON KING GENERAL COMING AT US, AND THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE FUCKING WORRIED ABOUT?!

"Just promise me that you won't cast Explosion!" I said, trying to calm down.

"But what if... what if my Explosion doesn't get reflected? Can I cast it to see?" Megumin asked hopefully.

OH MY FUCKING GOD YOU EXPLOSION LOLI! WHAT'S SO FUCKING HARD ABOUT NOT CASTING EXPLOSION?!

"NO!" I screamed right in her face. "IF YOU CAN'T EVEN HOLD OFF ON CASTING EXPLOSION FOR A SINGLE DAY, THEN YOU SHOULD JUST LEAVE THIS PARTY!"

Megumin suddenly tensed up. "Kazuma... is that how you really feel about me?" She started to cry.

Wait shit.

"Fine! If that's what you want, then I'll just leave... you don't need a burden like me here anyways..." She pulled away from me and ran off, crying uncontrollably.

OH COME ON! AGHHHHHHHHHHH!

Damn it! I'll worry about her later. Darkness! How's Darkness doing?!

I turned to look at her.

"Darkness! How are you holding up?" I asked her worriedly.

"Oh! Kazuma! I don't think I've ever been hit this hard before!" Darkness moaned at me while being beaten by Beldia's sword.

Okay, she looked to be fine.

"Are you enjoying this? How are you enjoying this? What kind of Crusader are you?!" Beldia yelled out angrily as he continued to hit Darkness, trying to bring her down.

Okay, what to do, Kazuma? You can't fight him, and his armor reflects all magic. I knew that a Dullahan's weakness is water, but the only way we can get water right now is through casting spells, so the water would be reflected back onto us...

THIS IS ACTUAL BS! HE'S ACTUALLY INVULNERABLE!

Think Kazuma think. Could you remove his armor somehow?

Agh! I wasn't prepared for this fight! I didn't think that Beldia would actually come back! Fuck!

"Look at Darkness out there fighting solo!" A male adventurer that was next me shouted out to his friends.

You know who Darkness is?

"We're letting a female fight our battles for us, and we call ourselves men?!" He continued shouting.

"We should just wait for Mitsurugi Kyouya! He will no doubt be able to instantly kill Beldia with that cursed sword of his!" One of his friends replied, scared.

Yeah... about that...

"It's been far too long, and he still hasn't shown up yet! Come on! There's four of us, and only one of him! If we all charge in at once, we're guaranteed to do some damage! CHARGE!" He raised his sword and started to run at Beldia.

Three other men followed him.

What the fuck?! Are you guys stupid or something?! There's nothing we can do at this point! Fucking run! Retreat! Retreat!

"Oh? Look's like you guys are finally putting up a fight. Very well then, enough playing around." Beldia cruelly remarked.

WHAT?! He was just playing around?!

With one swift blow to the chest, Beldia sent Darkness flying into a tree with his sword.

HOLY SHIT WHAT?! HE WASN'T EVEN USING HIS FULL POWER YET?!

"Ah~ so hard..." Darkness moaned out before she passed out onto the ground.

"AQUA! Go heal Darkness!" I hurriedly told her.

"Of course!" She quickly headed over.

The party of four now surrounded the Dullahan.

"Die, you scum!" The leader said as he leapt towards Beldia.

"Ho ho? So this is where the fun begins?" Beldia said as he tossed his head in the air.

"Oh, Eye of the Wicked Lord, lend me your strength!" He exclaimed as a giant red symbol of an eye appeared above his head in the air.

Before I could even do anything, I saw a flash of red.

The four men lay dead on the ground, their own blood pooling beneath them.

I could hear a terrified gasp from the crowd behind me.

I... was this... was this real? A sudden wave of nausea hit me as I stared at the bodies. I tried to not throw up.

We're fucked. This General was going to wipe out this whole town and there was not a single damn thing I could do about it.

"Ha! Foolish mortals!" Beldia laughed evilly as his head started to come down.

A desperate idea came into mind.

"Lurk!" I whispered as I went invisible.

I started to run at the Dullahan, who was focusing on catching his head.

Before he could catch it, however, I leapt up and snatched it from him in mid-air.

I rolled to a stop on the ground, holding his head in my hands. His red eyes widened as he looked at me through his helmet.

Holy shit I actually did it! But what the fuck do I do now, though?!

"Uh..." Beldia stammered out.

I looked at his helmet. Wait, so his armor can reflects spells. What if I don't hit his armor? I looked at the gap in the helmet.

I had nothing to lose. If this didn't work, then I'm dead.

"ASSASSINATE! SHATTER DEFENSES!" I put my hand palm down on his helmet so that I had a clear shot at his face.

"Wait, what are you doing? I can't see!"

It... didn't get reflected? I didn't feel vulnerable or anything, so it worked?!

"CREATE WATER!" I shouted out.

"Wait, what?! We can talk about this- EYAH!"

His helmet was filled to the brim with water, and then suddenly it started to turn into dust in my hands.

Nani?!

I turned to look at the rest of his body. It too was starting to disintegrate.

Soon, nothing was left.

It worked? Holy shit, it fucking worked! Assassinate and Shatter Defenses combined can literally kill anything!

I let out a sigh of relief as I laid down on the ground. Thank god, it's over.

Aqua came over and bent down to look at me.

"I finished healing Darkness." She reported solemnly.

"Good, thanks. What about those four...?" I asked her quietly. Please... if they were even clinging on by just a thread... then Aqua could help them recover fully.

"I'm sorry, Kazuma. I went over there as soon as I could, but... they died instantly."

"I see... thank you for trying."

"So, did you kill Beldia?"

"Yes."

"What did it cost?"

I thought about the four brave adventurers that had lost their lives today. I thought about how I had scared Megumin so deeply and sent her off crying uncontrollably. I thought about what the future would look like now.

"Everything," I replied simply.

KONOSUBA!

That afternoon, we held a brief service to honor the four adventurers.

It was bittersweet.

I never knew them that well, but I went there and paid my respects.

Darkness was hit a bit hard, though. It appears that she actually knew them pretty well, so I left her alone so that she could say her goodbyes.

Aqua said some nice blessings to them like a proper goddess.

Megumin didn't show up. In fact, I haven't seen her yet since she ran off.

Maybe she just needed some time alone...

The cold reality of this world suddenly hit me.

You could die here, just like any other world.

That was just a General, and look at how overpowered he was. If he hadn't been defeated, who know what might've happened.

I decided that from now on, I'm going to thoroughly do my research before taking on a quest or fighting any strong enemies.

For now though, I don't think that I'll be taking any quests soon. I needed a break.

I started to think about the positives. Hey, I killed a Demon King General today! What's my reward?

"Kazuma, the town and I are eternally grateful to you for saving us from Beldia!" Luna said with a smile as she walked over.

"It's no problem. I just did what I had to do, that's all." I humbly replied back.

"Again, thank you, Kazuma! We'll never forget this!" Luna started to walk away.

"Wait! Don't I get like a cash reward or something?" I asked her in confusion.

"Hmm? Oh, we don't offer money for killing Demon King Generals. Isn't our eternal gratitude enough of a reward for you?" Luna replied back, a bit harsh.

"Oh! Yeah! Yeah, of course! I appreciate you explaining, thanks!" I tried to sound grateful.

"I see. Well, thank you again, Kazuma! I'll be on my way now," She left with a smile.

SERIOUSLY?! I RISKED MY FUCKING LIFE FOR YOU PEOPLE AND I GET THIS FUCKING "ETERNAL GRATITUDE" BULLSHIT AS A REWARD?! IF YOU GUYS DON'T EVEN OFFER ACTUAL REWARDS FOR KILLING A DEMON KING GENERAL, THEN WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT IN KILLING THEM?!

Fuck this bullshit, I'm going to bed.

I excused myself from the Guild Hall and went back to my inn.

I crashed into my bed and started to think. There has to be a reason to kill Generals, right?

Some type of incentive...

Oh, that's right! Levels!

I hurriedly pulled out my adventurer's card.

And...

I went up four levels.

Four fucking levels.

4 Giant Toads leveled me up to level 8, but a FUCKING Demon King GENERAL only brought me up by four levels.

HA HA, NICE ONE, GAME BALANCE! NICE ONE!

Well, at least this meant that I could learn some more skills.

I picked up Shallow Grave with no hesitation. If I had Shallow Grave today, then I maybe I could've saved one of them...

I closed my eyes and took a small nap.

When I woke up again, it was nighttime.

Ugh. I'm hungry. I guess I'll head over to the Guild Hall for some food.

On my way there, I thought about my next steps.

My immediate concern was Megumin. I knew that I was way too harsh with her today. I needed to apologize.

Hmm... what to say, what to say.

I had an idea in mind as I walked into the Guild Hall.

Ah, there was Aqua and Darkness!

But no Megumin.

Shit.

I sat with them. "Have either of you guys seen Megumin?"

"Who's Megumin?" Aqua asked me with a confused look on her face.

"What? Did I say her name wrong or something?" I said in confusion.

"Sorry, I was just trying to play a joke on you. Looks like you didn't get it." Aqua said with a slight chuckle.

A joke? How was that a joke? Was it some sort of reference or something?

She switched to a more serious tone. "I was actually going to ask you if you had seen Megumin. I haven't seen her at all today since you made her cry like that!"

"Yeah, those were some harsh words that you said to her!" Darkness told me. Then she added with a slight blush, "You know, I wouldn't mind if you spoke to me like that..."

Of course you wouldn't!

"Well, I'm sure that she'll be alright." I said mainly to myself. "Just give her some time and I'm sure that she'll come around."

"I sure hope so..." Aqua said worriedly.

Looks like my apology would have to wait until tomorrow. Oh well.

I ordered some food and dug in.

Megumin wasn't at the Guild Hall the next day.

Or the day after that.

I even tried searching the town for her on the third day, but she was nowhere to be found.

...

Fuck.
