Poe was not unfamiliar with running afoul of the law. His time as a spice runner had not been without incident but this was the first time in his life that he felt truly worried. At first, he was afraid that the arrest was just a sham. Something for the First Order to parade in front of the rebel leadership in a show of following the law. He assumed that as soon as he was away from an audience he would be executed in some dark alley with his body never to be found.

That did not appear to be the case. Poe was booked at the nearest magistry holding station and handed over to the local authorities. No one from the First Order had even bothered to stay with him. At least, none that he recognized. Poe supposed that they could always wait until the dead of night to dispatch him in his holding cell or they could simply pay one of the other inmates to finish their dirty work for them.

But so far, none of that had happened. Poe had been treated like any other suspect. No better, no worse. The magistrate had tried to connect him with a local attorney but Poe had refused their services. It left him in a bit of a conundrum because he couldn't contact anyone from the resistance for fear of leading the First Order straight to them. Poe would never betray Leia and the resistance like that. The real resistance that is.

No, Poe would just need to sit tight. He had seen glimpses of his mug shot on the holo projector at the guard station so he was sure that Leia knew what was happening. He just needed to be patient, stay vigilant for assassins and wait for the resistance to bust him out.

It wasn't so bad, all things considered. He had stayed in far worse accommodation when he was a spice runner. Had eaten far worse too. Despite that, he looked back on those days with fondness. He had Zorii to keep him company.

More and more, Poe found his thoughts pulled back to Zorii. He missed her. Sure she busted his balls on a daily basis but she got him. She was always up for an adventure and a laugh and her eyes had always enchanted him. Poe regretted the way things had ended with them. Sure they had never actually gotten together but they were more than partners, more than friends. The only real disagreement between them was his desire to leave the spice trade to join the resistance.

Zorii had no love for the First Order but she didn't want to get involved in a battle that she didn't consider hers. Zorii wanted to make as much money running spice as they could to buy their way onto a nice quiet planet and live out the rest of their days in peace.

It might have been their only real fight but it had been a battle for the ages. Neither one of them had been willing to back down or to admit that the other had any valid points. In the end, Poe had called her a coward and left. He would never forget the look of hurt in her eyes. For a long time he would see the pain in her expression every night as he closed his eyes to go to sleep.

If he was being honest, Poe had pushed himself to be the best fighter pilot and commander in the resistance in some misguided attempt to prove to Zorii that he was right. That he hadn't thrown his life away and that fighting for the resistance mattered.

Poe wondered if he would ever get the chance to see her again. He desperately wanted to see her and make things right. Even if she never forgave him, he wanted to tell her that he was sorry and that he was wrong to call her a coward. She had never been a coward.

Resting his head against the back of his cell, he played their last moments together over again in his mind. He didn't know if she would even speak to him but Poe vowed that if he ever got out of this cell he would return to Kijimi and find her.

…..

Rose was more than a little scary Finn decided. In fact, she could be downright terrifying when she wanted to be. She continued to shock him with her hidden talents. Talents that included hacking into the magistry mainframe and identifying every official who passed within 5 meters of Poe. She then proceeded to dig up every ounce of information on all of those people.

She had all the makings of a criminal mastermind. Finn shuddered to think what would happen if she ever decided to become an actual villian. She might look all cute and guileless but Rose was a fierce protector of her friends and was capable of going to extreme lengths to keep them safe.

They had lucked out so far. The First Order had not made any further moves against Poe and it did not appear that they had anyone on the inside to monitor Poe. Which would have made any attempt at a prison break all the more challenging.

Their friend was being held in relative safety in the jail and Rose had identified that several members of the staff were ripe for blackmail. One guard and two members of the maintenance staff had made seriously questionable decisions regarding their life decisions and Finn was not above exploiting those weaknesses if it meant getting his friend out. Apparently, neither did Rose.

"Okay, here is the plan so far," Rose outlined.

"The night guard and the maintenance staff on Poe's cell block both have very serious gambling debts. Those are both serious offenses for anyone working in the magistry and will result in immediate termination of employment if the debts ever come to light. We can use this to force the guard to scramble the video feed and to open Poe's door. We can then smuggle Poe out of the cell block and down to the waste processing center in the maintenance worker's trolley. If all goes to plan, we can then use the large sewage tunnels to not only get out of the building but we can follow the tunnels all the way out of the city where we will rendezvous with Chewie and the Falcon here."

"Ugh, I am not looking forward to going out of those tunnels."

"It is the safest bet we have. There are only a few cameras directly monitoring the tunnels near the building and they routinely go down due to mechanical error and just straight camera blockage."

Finn wrinkled his nose imagining how much slop must be flowing through those pipes if it routinely interfered with camera visibility.

"I get that, but how do we get in the building? We can't go in via the tunnels. Someone is bound to notice two people smelling like the inside of a Rancor's den."

"That is where the other maintenance worker comes in. The worker for the first floor is having an affair with his sister in law. His wife does not know it, but I have some pretty explicit photos of the two of them together that leave little to the imagination."

Finn again found himself marveling at the criminal genius that was Rose. The mechanic had demonstrated a frightening proficiency in the arts of dirt digging and blackmail. When they pulled this off, prison break expert would be added to the list.

"He is going to supply us with two guard uniforms and on the night of the prison break, he is going to leave the secondary access door ajar so that we can enter relatively undetected. The guard will then scrub the footage of our coming and goings from all the video files."

"Okay, I think this could work," agreed Finn. "When do we do this?"

"In two days everyone that we have blackmail material on will be working the evening shift during the same rotation. It is our earliest opportunity to get Poe out."

"Two days it is then."

Finn reached over and wrapped his arm around Rose's shoulder, pulling her in for a quick kiss to the top of her head.

"My evil genius," he muttered into her hair.

"You better believe it." She jokingly replied.
