Chapter 1

Logan couldn't keep up with Sophia speaking quickly in Spanish. "Sophia! Sophia! Slow down, I can't understand you! Take a deep breath and speak slowly...in English."

Sophia took a few deep breaths. "The baby...she gone with him! This my fault Mr. Logan! I-I not know she do a thing like this! Why Mr. Logan? Why she do this!"

Logan shook his head confused. "What are you talking about? Who left with Luke? Marie came home and took Luke somewhere?"

"No, no! Miss Kate! She no come back and I not know where she is! I should have stayed with little mijo, but she say you tell her this morning before you go to work you wanted Natillas de Leche tonight and I had to go to the store for some of the ingredients."

Logan again shook his head in confusion. "I didn't ask for...ok Sophia, start from the beginning. What happened?"

"Miss Kate, she tell me you want Leche tonight. I go to the store, when I get back there was note that Miss Kate take mijo to the park. I start to make Natillas de Leche, then I see it time for little one's lunch. She no come back, but I see she take his bag, a couple bottles of Mrs. milk and the mash carrots I make for him. Maybe they have picnic at park I think. Then it get past little one's nap time and I worry. I call and call Miss Kate, but she no answer. I go to park to look, but the other women with babies say Miss Kate no come today. They say she tell them yesterday that mijo has doctor appointment today, but little one have no appointment...do he?"

Logan's heart pounded. "No. No he doesn't! Is there another park she would have taken him to?"

Sophia shook her head. "No Mr. Logan. She always takes him to Springer Park. She say because it closer if Luke go to sleep or get cranky, she can bring him home right away."

"Ok...have you called Marie?" Logan asked as he started to stack a pile of papers and shutting down his computer preparing to leave.

"Si! I try but her phone is only voicemail!"

Logan looked up at the clock on the wall. "She'll be in her third lecture now, she always turns her phone off during lectures. I'll call the school's emergency number to get a message to her. I'm on my way home. Sophia...if Kate doesn't show up or call in the next 5 minutes...call the police. I'm on my way home."

Logan left after getting a message to Marie that there was an emergency and she needed to come home. He knew she would get there before him, as it was an hour drive from the warehouse, and during his drive he tried Kate's cell several times, only getting her voicemail.

The first few messages was out of concern, if she might have been in a car accident, her and Luke possibly rushed to the hospital, but the nagging thought of her telling the other mothers and nannies at the park that Luke had a doctor's appointment, he knew this was planned...but why?

After talking to Marie, her calling the hospitals and being told that neither Kate or Luke had been brought in, the last message Logan left for Kate was fueled by anger, fear and a father's pain. It was part Logan speaking, but mostly Wolverine when he left the next message. "I don't know what kind of shit you're pulling, but you have no idea who you're fucking with here. Bring my kid home now bitch! I will hunt you down to the end of the Earth and God help you if one hair is harmed on Luke's sweet head! I'm not playing here! Bring my baby home right the fuck NOW!"

Logan screeched his truck to a stop in front of the house, a little taken aback by all the police cars, neighbors gawking, Wade and Vanessa comforting a sobbing Marie as several police were talking to her, and another group had Sophia to the side getting her story.

He started to run towards the house when a couple of police stopped him. "Sir, this is a crime scene, you need to stay back."

"But..." Logan started when Marie hollered.

"Logan! He's my husband! Let him go!"

One of the officers holding Logan's arm blinked at him. "You're the husband?"

"Yeah...that's right. Problem with that?" He growled out.

"No sir, sorry. Reporters have been trying to get through to get a story. We thought...sorry, you can go to your wife now. I'm sure the detective will have some questions for you as well."

Logan huffed as he started to walk away. It was all he could do to ignore the comments the two cops muttered, not knowing Logan's enhanced hearing.

"Bit old for her isn't he?"

"You see this house? Nanny...housekeeper...trophy wife. Now that's what I call living the dream."

Marie collapsed in Logan's arms, sobbing. "What's going on? Where is our baby? Why? Why did she take him? I just want my baby back!"

Logan engulfed Marie in a tight embrace. "I know darlin'. We'll find them. It's gonna be alright, we'll find them." He couldn't help the shudder and his shaky voice as he tried to console his mate, console himself.

"Logan...I-I should have listened to you. You didn't want to hire her, you didn't feel comfortable with her. This is my fault! I should have listened to you!" Marie's sobs becoming stronger and louder as she spoke.

Logan pulled her back slightly by the shoulders to look into her eyes. "Don't you dare blame yourself for this! You did all the right things, checking her references, a criminal report...no one could see something like this happening."

Marie once again fell into Logan's arms. "Why would she do something like this?"

Logan shook his head. "I don't know, sweetheart. Maybe try to extort money from us."

"That's a reasonable explanation, Mr. Howlett." The detective said as he approached the couple. "Have either of you received any phone calls or text messages?"

Logan blinked at the short, pudgy man trying to place where he recognized him from. He shook his head. "I haven't. Marie?"

Marie shook her head. "No. I haven't gotten anything."

The detective nodded. "Ok...how about we go inside where we can talk without the entire neighborhood staring."

Logan looked around, he had been so intent to be with his Marie in this time of crisis he had forgotten about the neighbors. "Yeah...good idea. Our friends here, is it ok if they come in too?"

Wade cracked a grin. "Awww Logan! You do love me."

"Shut up before I change my mind." Logan growled. "Besides, I meant Ness and Darlene."

Wade gave a loud "HA" as Vanessa shifted their daughter, Darlene, on her hip. "Honey...now is not the time for jokes." Vanessa scolded.

Wade leaned close to Vanessa. "I'm trying to ease some of the tension. Logan is about to lose his shit. Look at his hands."

Vanessa looked down at Logan's clenched fists, noting the places between his knuckles where it was visible that his claws were millimeters from breaking through the surface, and the tightness of his clenched jaw.

Vanessa nodded. "Logan, hold Darlene a minute, my arms are tired." Before Logan had a chance to protest, she had handed her daughter off to him and watched as he instantly began to relax as the group made their way into the house with the detective hot on their heels.
