Chapter 1

Abandoned Warehouse in Gotham City.

Harvey Dent, now known as Two Face, paced around the empty warehouse. It had been two full years since the incident with the Riddler, which had resulted in his disfigurement, since then he had decided to become Judge, Jury and Executioner, making all of his decisions through the flip of a coin. His latest victim was Mario Falcone, the last remaining boss of the now withering Falcone Crime Family. He continued his pacing, flipping his coin as he did so.

"Please, just let me go" Screamed Mario Falcone, the Crime Lord was tied to a chair. Mario's slick black hair was a mess, his suit was torn and he had several bruises and blood stains all over his body.

"You know why I brought you here." Two Face stated, continuing to flip the coin in his hand. "So, what do you say we do this?" Mario began trembling as this voice didn't seem to belong to Harvey Dent "I will toss this coin into the air and you have to call heads or tails, get it right and I'll let you go, get it wrong and you will be buried alongside your brother."

Mario felt the sweat roll down his neck as well as a few hot tears threatening to leave his eyes at the mention of his brother. Two face readied himself "Call it in the air." He shouted before tossing the coin upwards.

"H-heads." Mario barely managed to shout before the coin began to descend, time slowed down as the coin began to spin on the floor. The Crime Lord's eyes were glued on the coin which continued spinning, and spinning, until finally it stopped. Two Face let out a light sigh before turning to look at the son of Carmine Falcone.

"Tails" he whispered before pulling out a gun and shooting Mario point blank in the forehead. The last major boss of the Falcone Crime Family was dead.

"Now, which one of you scum is next." Two Face's second voice shouted. Turning he took a rather trembling old man, who looked like a simple street thug. Dent knew this man all too well, this was the man responsible for the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne; Joe Chill.

"Alright, now listen, Chill." The disfigured former district attorney said to the trembling old man "Same rules." Two Face proceeded to tie the man onto the chair, letting Falcone's not lifeless body collapse onto the floor.

"W-why am I even here?" The thief asked trembling "I served my time."

"I am well aware." Two Face proceeded to pick up the coin from the ground "But that doesn't change anything." The man turned, showing the disfigured half of his face, his gaze was cold enough to freeze the old man's blood. Taking the coin in hand "Call is in the air." He tossed the coin into the air yet again.

"T-tails." Chill shouted. It didn't take long for the coin to land on the floor before spinning much like before. But, just as the coin was about to fall over the sound of glass shattering echoed across the abandoned warehouse.

Harvey turned to the nearest window to see an all too familiar figure. Standing there in the window sill above them was Batman. Dent glared at the Bat themed vigilante, the man responsible for his physical deformity.

If it weren't for him, he wouldn't be doing this.

The Dark Knight descended from the window and stood in front of the former District Attorney. Two Face growled at the sight of the man before him.

"You have a lot of nerve coming here" Two Face threatened, tightening his grip on his coin "Wasn't it enough for you to ruin my face and career?"

"I did no such thing, Harvey." Batman retorted "You were the one who chose this path."

"Well, I wouldn't have if you had never shown up in the first place. If you hadn't gone after Alberto Falcone his old man wouldn't have burned my face."

"So I should have simply let him get away with what he did? That wouldn't have been fair for the victim."

"The only thing in this world is chance. And you had yours and chose to waste it." The former district attorney tossed his coin into the air, but just before it could hit the ground a green gloved hand made a grab for it. Two Face turned to see what appeared to be a young boy, no older than fifteen years old, with short black hair wearing a bright red and green suit with a long yellow cape and the a small letter 'R' on his chest.

"Didn't interrupt anything, did I?" The boy asked jokingly while tossing the coin in his hand. Two Face reached for his gun, only for Batman to punch him in the face before he could reach it.

The remaining thugs began to run as fast as they could only to stop at the sound of police cars surrounding the building. Batman turned towards the boy, a goofy smile on the latter's face, before placing a hand on his shoulder with a proud gaze.

"Great job, Robin." He spoke, congratulating the boy for his success.

The Bat Cave

Alfred walked up to Bruce, who was currently sitting at his computer. The young man turned to face his butler who had a scowl on his face.

"How was Mr. Richard's first mission?" The butler asked arching a brow.

"He did fine. He caught Two Face completely off guard." Bruce responded.

"Well, of course he did. Who would expect a child to show up to such a dangerous situation?"

Bruce turned to face Alfred, a look of confusion on his face. "Is something wrong with me training Dick to fend for himself?"

"That's not the issue, it is simply irresponsible to allow a boy his age to risk his life for a living."

"Gotham is an unforgiving place, Richard needs to learn to defend himself instead of relying on me the entire time."

"He is still a child, he should be living his life, not throwing it away. Living everyday like it could be his last."

"There's a chance it might be every time he steps outside. It's dangerous out there, even without letting him accompany me to hunt down criminals."

"Still, it is reckless to allow a child to take on mobsters and psychopaths."

Letting out a sigh, Bruce spun his chair to look at his butler. "Look, if you're so worried why don't you talk to him?" Alfred raised a confused brow at the younger man's response. "Perhaps talking to him will clear your mind, get you to understand his reasons for doing this. Try seeing this through his perspective. And if after that you're still worried, we can continue talking."

Dick Grayson's Bedroom; Wayne Manor

Dick sat on his bed looking at his suit. Not bad for his first night out. That Two Face guy really didn't expect to see him there. He felt as if he could take on the world, and yet for some reason, he wasn't as happy as he thought he would be. He felt as if he was forgetting something, something important.

But what? What was it that he was supposed to remember? Was he supposed to do something important? Did Alfred ask him to run an errand? Was he supposed to train with Bruce? Was he supposed to go somewhere? Was it someone's birth- That was it, it was his mother's birthday.

Lowering his head at the realization, Dick pulled out the bracelet he gave his mother. Three years, that is how long it had been since he lost his parents. And the fact that it happened on his mother's birthday made it all the more depressing.

The door to his room suddenly screeched, Richard lifted his head only to see Alfred standing by the now open door.

"Mr. Grayson, may I have a word?" the butler asked. Dick looked at his mother's bracelet before nodding, the butler then walked up and sat by the bed next to the boy.

"Did I do something wrong?" Dick asked somewhat worried.

"No, I am simply worried for your safety. You are much too young to be risking your life in this manner. And the fact that Mr. Wayne is encouraging you to do so is something I do not approve."

"I made my choice, Alfred." The boy then grabbed the bracelet for the butler to see "I made a promise to them, and I don't plan on backing down on my word."

Alfred's eyes widened at the young man's words, letting out a light chuckle in a somewhat nostalgic tone of voice before he responded "That is exactly what he said when he first asked me to train him." Dick's eyes shifted to the butler, his face puzzled, awaiting for him to continue "If I had known back then what I know now, I would have refused. Not only is he risking his life on a daily bases, but he's letting you do the same thing."

"Well, what else am I supposed to do?"

"Live your life." Dick raised a brow "Take advantage of every second you can. Do what children your age should be doing." Alfred then placed a hand on the bracelet "Live up to your name sake."
