Chapter 9
The Bat Cave
The visit to Arkham Asylum proved fruitless. It appeared there is nothing on the Joker, the files on him were none existent and the psychiatrist who was assigned to him had been driven insane.
Bruce was infuriated at this, it was as if the Joker didn't even exist. The boy he took in was in the hospital, and the man responsible was lose somewhere in the city. Bruce's only clue was the word 'carnival'.
The Gotham PD had been unable to deduce anything on the Joker or where he was holding the Commissioner. It almost felt like the case would soon be abandoned.
Wait, abandoned. That was it.
Bruce rushed to the computer and typed the words abandoned carnival. The computer immediately showed several images of various abandoned amusement parks in the city, but one of them caught his attention.
Apparently one of them had been sold to a mysterious man known only as Mr. J, the transaction was never truly completed as the real-estate agent had been murdered not long after.
Bruce grabbed the burnt piece before closing his fist, causing it to crumble. He now knew where he needed to go.
Abandoned Amusement Park
"Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages I present to you THE AVERAGE MAN" the Joker announced to a large gathering of people, or rather corpses, as he unveiled a large covered cage. Inside said cage was Commissioner Gordon, the bleached faced man then proceeded to press a button, causing a clapping sound effect to echo throughout the worn down collapsing structure.
Just then the squeaking sound of a car stopping was heard. The Joker turned to see the Bat mobile parked not far from where he was, Batman then stepped out of the vehicle before standing on the hood. The Joker smirked at the sight of the vigilante.
There was a long pause, the two stared into each other's eyes. Then, Batman lunged himself forward, tackling the Joker into the ground. The two began to wrestle on the ground, the Joker reached for his flower and sprayed acid into the caped crusader's arm, burning his suit before running to the stolen vehicle.
As the madman drove off, away from the amusement park, Batman walked up to the cage holding the commissioner.
"Commissioner" he said, catching the man's attention. Gordon turned to see Batman standing outside the cage. The vigilante then grabbed a rock and proceeded to break the lock, he then walked into the cage and wrapped his cape around the older man. "What did he do to you?"
"He-he showed me pictures of my daughter." Gordon responded.
"Don't worry, I'll go after him."
"He told me what happened. He sounded like he was bragging, like he didn't care that he killed a kid."
"He's not dead. He's in a comma. When I get my hands on him I'm gonna…"
"NO!" The commissioner rose to his feet "I want him brought in, and I want it to be done by the book."
"Gordon, if we do that, he'll just be sent back to the asylum and probably escape again."
"But if we don't, he wins. The only way we'll win is if he doesn't get to us."
Batman lowered his head, as if to think, before nodding. "I've already informed the PD, they're on their way. Are you gonna…"
"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Go after him, and remember, bring him in by the book." Batman ran towards the Bat mobile before chasing after the Joker.
Gotham City Hall
Mayor Gal sat in his office, looking out the window thinking this might be the last time he might hold a position of power. Just then, a knock was head at the door, the mayor turned to see an all too familiar face.
"Miss Waller, what a surprise." He stated as the NSA agent sat in front of him.
"Mr. Mayor" she greeted "I have been informed that your Police Commissioner has been kidnapped."
"No need to worry, the situation is well under control."
"And how long will it stay that way? Can this 'Batman' truly be trusted?"
"I know the man all too well. He would never back down on his word."
"If you say so." Waller then rose to her feet "But remember what we discussed, Mr. Mayor."
