Beginnings
His school assignment was finally done. It wasn't that much of a problem to begin with since he excelled at Japanese literature and frankly most students here were for science, which he wasn't that concerned.
He just to get away from Chiba, away from all those pricks in middle school who bullied and insulted him,for his damn eyes of all things.
Hachiman didn't even expect that a school in Academy City would accept him. It was geared towards students with potential to develop mental abilities and he simply had none.
This school must have really low standards since many of the elite schools such as Tokiwadai for middle school girls didn't even allow non-espers to attend.
It didn't take long for him to realize that he was chosen for his command in Japanese Literature so the school had something to show in public events and festivals and thus roped into writing slogans, poetry and such, usually by a senior,Seria Kumokawa who was a scary as hell woman who really knew how to persuade people.
Now to head to the staff room and hand it over to Tomoe-sensei.
"Hikki-chan! You ignored us throughout recess and now going to be Tomoe-sensei. You sly dog!"
Hachiman swore he just popped a vein his forward because the class resident blue-haired idiot and lolicon said something stupid again out loud and all the stares he was getting was making him uncomfortable.
"Stop it,Aogami. This is why people tend to avoid us."
Touma told his friend who along with a blonde guy who always wears sunglasses form the Idiot Trio. Rumours about their perversity and knack of getting into trouble was known well outside the school.
Hachiman just lift the papers on which he had written Haiku in his own Kanji handwriting and head towards the door.
He just had placed last minute additions and thought his work work to be satisfactory. He didn't want to be seen as associated to the Trio and by extension become target of Fukiyose Seiri's Divine Punishment she usually dishes out at them.
He walked through the hallway and got himself pondering about how his life had been since moving to this city.
One thing notable was that how unnoticeable he was, which kind of made sense.
This place was inhabited by people whose powers were developed to the point that they could flatten buildings and performing feats which seemed straight out of science-fiction novels.
He also noticed perculiar behavior and style of appearance of the more powerful espers, one he did cross paths with was a Level 5 who shouted 'Guts!' a hell lot.
So of course a non-esper and merely a plain, regular student like him was not worth any interest to anyone.
No. It was not entirely accurate to say no one was interested in him.
Tomoe-sensei was impressed by his grasp in Japanese language and often relied on him for School events.
While the Idiot Trio annoyed him,he was never really mad at them since none of them ever showed malice unlike all the cruel and shallow kids he knew back home.
He came here hoping for a normal school life as well as to be accepted and to an extent he did achieve it.
Well,as normal as possible in a city with technology far more advanced and students able to manipulate realities.
The school day was over and it was uneventful, minus the knocking out of the Trio in the middle of class by Fukiyose but in his opinion, they deserved it this time.
Komoe-sensei as usual was impressed by his work.
"Great job again, Hikigaya-kun! If only some of my students tried to focus more on the Curriculum."
She was referring to the Power Curriculum which was used to develop esper abilities by manipulating reality from which he was exempt from due to his non-esper status.
He thought that was a bar too high for them to cross due to their attention span but didn't say it out loud.
"I may be a science teacher but I do recognise importance of Arts as well. We've been pushing the City Board to hold an Arts Festival with same prestige than their science fairs. In fact I've sent them your work to convince them that such talents are also well-worth."
That made Hachiman concerned since he only wanted and had for the most part gotten a quiet, peaceful life. Well as much as possible in a place with powerful esper and unique personalities. One esper he crossed paths with was a Level 5 who shouted 'Guts!' a lot and seemed like someone out a shonen manga.
He didn't want to be under pressure by becoming centre of attention but it was too late anyways.
Hachiman returned to his dorms to prepare for another task.
He didn't get much from school stipends so he took a job. It was nothing spectacular like what powerful espers were able to do but he had pride in it.
