A/N 2: Next chapter should drop by the second week of August (4 ~ 8 August)
.
Naruto yawned as he stretched, the bed inside his parent's house was pretty damn comfortable.
"Breakfast!" Kushina's voice rung out. She waited for a beat and when no answer came, yelled even louder, causing the two blondes to stumble to the living room groggily.
"C-coming!"
Both blondes rushed out to see an angry Kushina holding a frying pan. "D-dad… What's mom doing?" Naruto asked sheepishly.
"I don't know son," Minato whispered, eyes never leaving Kushina, much like a rabbit eyeing a lion, "She's just standing there… menacingly."
A tomato was promptly thrown at him, "I can hear you both, yeah know!"
They all shared a laugh as they wolfed down breakfast before going to the hokage's tower again. "Hey, Namikaze!"
Tsunade appeared from a small ramen bar. "Lady Tsunade? It's only ten in the morning, what're you doing drinking?"
"Be quiet, pretty boy. Use the Flying Raijin and teleport us all." Tsunade huffed, her breath smelt faintly of rice sake.
"How do you even know if I marked the hokage's basement?"
Tsunade cracked her fists, "What was that?"
"N-nothing! Kushina your feet hurt from walking, right?!"
"What—?"
"That's right, off we go!" Minato grabbed Kushina and put a hand on Tsunade's shoulders, Naruto grabbing his father's shoulder.
In an instant they all appeared inside the basement, Jiraiya was already seated, holding a large bag of dango dipped in sweet sauce.
"Punctuality was never your strong point, hm Tsunade?"
She huffed as everyone made their way to their seats.
"Now that everyone is seated, we shall begin."
Inoichi nodded.
The scene opened up to a large desert area, where many shinobi from different villages were lined up.
The crest that they were wearing, was never seen before. It had the kanji symbol for 'shinobi'.
"What is this?" Hiruzen asked.
"This is the Allied Shinobi Forces!" Naruto grinned, "It's formed after Tobi, the masked guy, declared the fourth war."
"Tobi…" Hiruzen experimentally said.
"Will we be okay with a kid like that as commanding general?"
"Lord Gaara's no ordinary kid! Just keep your mouth shut if you don't know what you're talking about!" A sand shinobi rebutted.
"Hmph! How am I supposed to know?! We were enemies not that long ago!"
"Yeah? Well, I don't exactly trust you guys either! So just watch your mouth!"
A fight broke out within the two.
"No one seems to trust each other." Jiraiya sighed.
"It's no surprise. They are all expected to work together, but the rivalries are still fresh, especially during the sand and stone." Hiruzen added on.
Gaara intervened, knocking them both aside with his sand. "In the first through third wars, each country and village fought for their own gains, as ninjas hated and hurt each other. That hatred bred a lust for power, which gave birth to me."
"I, too, used to be a host, an embodiment of hatred and power. I hated everyone and wanted to destroy the world, just as the Akatsuki is attempting to do now."
"But… one Konoha ninja stopped all that. He was my enemy, but he cried for me! I hurt him, but he called me his friend! He saved me! We were enemies, but he was a host too. There are no grudges when you understand one another's pain!"
"You're famous, Naruto." Rin said, looking at the blonde teen in awe.
Naruto blushed as he rubbed the back of his head.
"And for all the good reasons too." Minato said proudly.
"There are no enemies here! We have all suffered because of the Akatsuki! There is no village here, we are all just ninjas!"
"The enemy is now after that very friend who saved me, if the enemy gets their hands on him, the world will be over! I want to protect my friend and protect the world! But I am too young to protect the world alone! I am too green! So, please lend me your strength!"
"A fine speech." Hiruzen took a long drag from his pipe, "It seems the sand has found a wise kazekage."
"They really did." Naruto nodded.
"Amazing… all these shinobi from all the villages working together as one. If you told me something like this could happen, I'd beat the crap out of you." Tsunade said, as she watched the Allied Shinobi Forces work as one.
The crowd cheered, "If you're with me, then follow me!"
"The Fourth Great Ninja war is here, and we will be the victors!"
"Yeah!"
"Tsunade? And that's the raikage." Hiruzen looked at the last person, "Is that… the Fence Sitter? Ohnoki?"
Hiruzen barked a laugh, "It seems I'm not the only one that has aged."
Jiraiya smiled at his mentor.
"Question." Rin raised her hand.
"What is it?"
"If you weren't here to see all this, how come we're seeing it now?"
Naruto thought for a moment, "Maybe it was because I was constantly in the nine tails chakra form, I could sense everything."
Rin was a little confused but nodded her head, accepting the answer. "That just means we get to see more battles!" Obito beamed.
"We're ready, so, sensei, you'd better get ready too."
"That's…" Inoichi sucked in a breath. "Is that…?"
Naruto nodded, "That's Ino, she's your daughter."
"My daughter…" Inoichi tasted the words on his tongue, he had a daughter, she had grown up so beautifully and strong, just like her mother.
"I take it that's Shikaku's and Chouza's kids?" Inoichi said.
"Yeah! Shikamaru and Chouji, they're both my close friends."
"Chouji, Shikamaru, Ino. You've become truly great." Asuma said.
"Asuma died?" Hiruzen slowly said.
"He got killed taking down two members of the Akatsuki."
"I see." Hiruzen nodded, looking at the screen. Were all his loved ones destined to die one-by-one?
"Shikamaru, use the shadow mimic to bring me over to Choji!"
Shikamaru did just that and Choji leaned in for a punch but stopping short just before Asuma's face. "What are you doing?!"
"I can't do it! I can't beat up our sensei!"
"Get out of the way!" Asuma shot a sharp gust of dust a Choji, who was tackled out of the way by Ino.
Choji's face changed after diving deep into his thoughts, a pair of flaming blue butterfly wings emerged from his back, "I've gotta change on my own!"
"It seems this generation's Ino-Shika-Cho is doing very well." Inoichi commented, "We should call Shikaku in here soon."
"That cocoon must've been sturdier than you expected, hm Chouji?" Now, think you can take flight?" Asuma asked.
Choji clenched his fists, "Hell yeah!"
A solid punch connected with Asuma, sending him flying and crashing into the wall, "I've got nothing more to say to you three. Your Ino-Shika-Cho formation was perfect!"
The scene changed to Naruto panting in the nine tails form. "You're stinkin' up the joint cuz' you stopped workin' hard. Lying there like a tub of lard!"
"Well… earlier I swear I sensed the nine tails chakra. But there's no way anyone besides me has his chakra, right?"
"Smart kid," Tsunade said, "He's catching on."
The scene kept on moving, until Naruto was almost at the exit, but was stopped by Iruka himself.
"Ah! Traitor!" Kushina narrowed her eyes at him.
The shinobis got blown out of the waterfall, Naruto leaping outwards. The sage mode sensing everything around him, flashes of the war started coming through his mind.
"W-what is this?"
"War. Madara's making his move." Iruka said.
"Iruka!"
"Naruto's no fool, our only choice now is to explain the situation rationally.
"Rationally? Oh, if he's inherited anything from me, it'll be my recklessness." Kushina said.
"I don't think that's a good thing." Minato nervously said.
"Wait, did you Iruka sensei just say Madara? As in Madara Uchiha?" Obito asked, "He died a long time ago."
"You'd be surprised…" Naruto gulped.
"You're telling me one of the oldest Uchiha member is alive?"
"Alive and a main participant in the Fourth Great Ninja war."
"Dear lord." Jiraiya slapped a hand on his head, not believing it.
Naruto broke free from the bindings and leapt away.
"Told ya! Reckless." Kushina cheered.
Minato and Jiraiya groaned.
"I've been seeing you this whole time, in Naruto's heart. I dunno what you did for him, but that kid thinks the world of you. Unlike my raps, that damn fool." Bee rapped.
"Everything you taught him is still inside, even today. Your words have protected him all the way!" Bee jumped as he followed after Naruto.
"So, he's a good person after all." Minato remembered how Bee had wanted to sacrifice his own life to take his own during their encounter.
The nine tails came on the screen, Kushina tilted her head, "Is it just me, or has the nine tails become… cuter?"
"Cuter? How?!" Minato looked at the screen. "Why don't you ever compliment me?"
"Is someone jealous?" Kushina leered.
"N-no…."
"Naruto, I've always been inside you. I've watched every day of your life, and you are always, always too naïve."
"Well isn't this a rare treat, you coming to talk to me. Has feeding on my chakra brought you back to normal? I get it, you finally wanna be friends because you're lonely in here. But I'm busy now, we'll talk later!"
"You don't understand anything, you gullible fool! Can you really bear or erase all that rage, that hate?!"
"The moment I start second-guessing myself, it's all over! I'll do something about Sasuke, and this stupid war!"
"Standing up to the nine tails, who would've thought?" Jiraiya said.
Tsunade nodded her head, "Such a badass…" Obito mused.
The raikage and Tsunade crashed down in front of Bee and Naruto.
"I can't sit around while everyone's out there sacrificing themselves for me! If we win the war but they all end up dead. It's all meaningless, I won't stand for it!"
"Enough complaining! You are not getting through me!"
As they watched the raikage keep up with Naruto's speed, they shook their heads. "How're going to get past this, brat? Even if you got past him, I'm still there." Tsunade waved her hands.
"I have a feeling that Ay doesn't like me, cause' I dodged his attack that one time." Minato's forehead beaded sweat.
"I am the fastest shinobi alive, now that the fourth hokage has passed away."
"You knew my dad?"
"We butted heads on more than one occasion, he was a great man, one I thought would never be surpassed. One of the Leaf's legendary sannin, Jiraiya. Called him the destined child, the savior of the world."
"But if he was our savior, why are we facing this crisis? Because he failed to deal with the nine tailed fox, and you, his son, have learned nothing!"
Minato clenched his fists at the words.
"Both idiots who runs their mouth without being sure of anything—."
"Don't talk about my dad, like you know him."
"My dad, the fourth hokage didn't fail at all!"
"Yeah!" Kushina nudged Minato, who was still taking in his son's words, "Looks like Naruto kept the faith."
"Y-yeah…" Minato was still a little dazed from that speech.
An emotional battle broke out between Bee and Ay.
"Their faith! Faith that I could finish the job! Faith that I could fulfil the role as a savior!" Naruto pointed to his headband.
A silence came over them, before Ay closed his eyes and pushed Bee aside, powering up to his full chakra levels. "Get ready Naruto!"
"I've been given a lot of responsibility," Naruto began.
"This… it's just like that time when I fought them." Minato looked on.
Just before Ay's fist hit Naruto, he appeared in front of Ay. "I won't screw up!"
"That was just like a yellow flash!" Tsunade said.
"I wanted to test you in my own way, I came at you with the intent to kill. You're only the second person to dodge my top-speed punch. It seems our savior is alive and well inside you."
Ay sighed, "Get going."
"Yes sir!" Naruto vanished in a flash of light.
"That's my boy." Minato put a hand through Naruto's hair.
"Minato sensei!" Obito said, "It's still not too late, how about we get some dinner?"
Minato nodded happily before jerking to a stop, eyeing Obito suspiciously, "What's your ulterior motive, Obito?"
Obito laughed nervously, "I just wanted… to spar with Naruto a little. E-even Kakashi and Rin wanted to!"
Minato looked at Kakashi and Rin who were slightly nodding their head, "Even Kakashi?" Minato was surprised, the usually neutral boy took an interest in his son.
"Only if Naruto is okay with it."
"I'm down!" Naruto gave a thumbs-up, to which Minato sighed, looks like he won't be getting an early night's sleep anytime soon.
The team and Naruto made their way to a training field, where Naruto asked if there were any rules he had to follow.
"Well, for starters, don't injure them too badly, and none of your explosive techniques! I don't want to wake up in the ruins of Konoha. Lord hokage would have my head." Minato sighed.
"So, no Rasenshuriken or the like!" Kushina made an 'x' with her hands. "Anything else goes!"
Team Minato got into their battle formations while Naruto just shrugged. "I feel like there's a really big power gap here… I'm already beyond kage level in terms of fighting and power."
"Just try to go easy on them." Kushina facepalmed.
"I only have one hand; I think that's handicap enough."
"Fair enough…"
Obito's eyes whirled red. "When'd you unlock the Sharingan?"
"I was watching the memories and I guess I was so hurt by one of the scenes I just… got it?
"Strange…" Kakashi mumbled. "So, when are you giving it to me?" He joked.
"N-never!" Obito argued, "Copy Ninja Kakashi." He joked.
"Here I come!" Naruto shouted as he ran forwards, disappearing in a flash of yellow light.
Naruto threw a punch at Kakashi, who swiftly dodged it, but felt a blow to his jaw, sending him to the ground. "This is just like I that memory, with Pain. Senjutsu?"
"Frog Kumite!" Naruto didn't let up as he rushed to double-up on his attack on Kakashi, but a large fireball headed his way.
"I'm here as well!" A truth seeker orb slammed into the fireball, completely negating it.
"Suiton: Suiryūdan no Jutsu." A raging dragon erupted from the river and flew towards Naruto, knocking off balance.
"I didn't expect Rin to know such a high-level technique, looks like you guys have been training without me, huh?" Minato smiled.
A quick battle ensued, with the three genin being absolutely decked by Naruto. "Well… this was to be expected anyways."
Naruto helped all of them up, "Hey, hey! Naruto, why don't you show us what you can really do?"
"I don't think that's such a good idea… destroying the village and all."
And suddenly they were teleported to the outskirts of Konoha, near the mountainside. "Dad? Why'd you bring us here?"
"I guess I am kinda curious what you can do at your max potential as well." He rubbed the back of his head.
"You can't be serious," He looked at Kushina, who had stars in her eyes, "Not you too, mom."
"I-I just want to see how much you've grown."
Naruto gave in, asking them all to get back a good distance. "You'd better not have gotten rusty, Kurama. You're finally getting an excuse to let loose."
Kurama snorted from inside the mindscape.
"Uuoh!" Naruto yelled as the yellow chakra expanded massively, a large nine tails appeared. A nine tails made from chakra with three faces and six arms floated in the sky. Nearby trees and water being lifted into the air by the sheer power radiating off it.
"Six Paths: Rasenshuriken." Two massive Rasenshurikens formed around the constructs arms, increasing the already fast wind speeds.
"Naruto! That's enough!" Shielding his face from the rough winds.
Hearing Minato's voice, Naruto undid the transformation and landed on the ground. The three genin were absolutely shocked, "You wanted us to fight that?!" Kakashi asked Obito.
Naruto nervously chuckled, "I might have gone a little overboard, showing off a little bit." He wobbled side to side, before being supported by Kushina.
"A little?!"
"Woah, releasing that amount of chakra in a burst took a little too much out of me." Naruto sighed.
"That was insane…" Rin commented, Obito nodding, sharing her sentiment.
"Is there anyone that can even come close in terms of power?"
"Uh… sure there is." Naruto started counting off his fingers, "Kaguya… Sasuke… and Old man sage!"
Minato caught that he didn't mention either Madara Uchiha or Hashirama Senju, was he truly stronger than those two legendary figures?
Right now, Naruto was probably the strongest shinobi alive in this time.
After everyone had calmed down, Minato waved goodbye to his team. "Let's go home, shall we?"
"Yeah!"
"Care to explain why almost half the apple trees outside of Konoha have been uprooted?"
"I can explain, lord hokage." Minato said, seriously.
"Can you?" Hiruzen raised an eyebrow.
Minato sighed, "I can't."
After settling the compensation negotiations, Minato sat down sighing. "Look's like I'll be going on more missions to pay for all those apple trees."
Kushina gave a sympathetic laugh, "I'll accompany you, yeah know?"
"Good morning." Mikoto and Fugaku said as they entered. "We got your message, Naruto." They held up a kunai with a paper tag, sprawled with messy handwriting.
"You should take your son to a calligraphy class, Minato." Fugaku joked.
Minato and Kushina shared a laugh as Naruto went to sit with Inoichi.
"So, if you called them here, it means Sasuke is going to be in your memories?" Hiruzen asked.
"Itachi's coming up, he came back as a... reanimation."
"What?!" Fugaku stood up, grabbing Naruto by the collar. "You never told me anything about this, you never told me my son died!"
"Y-yeah, I brought you here, so you'd find out and you'd be able to change it!"
"Who! Who killed Itachi?!"
"S-Sasuke…" Naruto said sadly.
As he digested those words, the weight came crashing down on him. Fugaku calmed himself, letting go of Naruto, "I… apologize for my behavior."
"It's alright, I know you meant well." Naruto gave a nod.
"Is it alright if I brought Itachi over, and you connect with his chakra? I heard from Lord Jiraiya that through this method, I can see what happens through Itachi's older self. I'd like to see my son's final moments."
"It's the least I can do."
"Thank you." Mikoto said, wiping tears away.
"We're beginning." Inoichi said, after they were finished.
"I don't believe it…"
"Are they close?"
"I've got this nostalgic feeling."
"So, even Nagato got summoned back. His red hair turned white?" Jiraiya asked.
"He used too much power when he brought everyone back to life."
Naruto and Bee landed in front of Itachi and Nagato.
"I suppose it's been some time since we last met, but it feels like it's been an instant, since you were there when I died. You look different Naruto." Nagato said, propping himself onto Itachi for support.
Out of nowhere, Itachi launched a fire technique that ate up the surroundings, Bee cutting it in half with his blade.
"What's become of Sasuke?" Itachi asked, mid-fight.
"He's trying to take revenge on the Leaf, he even joined the Akatsuki!"
"Why won't he return to the village?!"
"When he learned the truth about your secret mission, he decided to destroy the village in retaliation!"
"Secret mission? What was it?" Mikoto asked.
"The Uchiha Clan was planning a coup. Itachi was given a choice, and he chose to kill all his clan members, and was able to leave Sasuke alive."
"You lie!" Mikoto shouted.
"Itachi made himself the villain, to save Sasuke and the village." Naruto said, resolute. "He's a hero."
"And a martyr, apparently." Fugaku sighed, holding onto Mikoto.
"I'm counting on you to take care of Sasuke."
"That was always my plan!" Naruto shouted.
As the fight continued, Itachi's Mangekyo Sharingan burst to life. Naruto suddenly choking as a crow with its own Mangekyou Sharingan started writhing out.
"Eek!" Rin covered her eyes.
"Gross…" Obito cringed at the sight.
Itachi's eye connected with the crows, as he launched Amaterasu at Nagato's summons. "It worked."
"Calm down, I'm not being controlled anymore, I layered a new genjutsu on top of the enemy's technique. With this, the reanimation is cancelled. The genjutsu is an order, to protect the village of Konoha."
"I implanted an eye into that crow. The ultimate illusionary technique of Uchiha Shisui's Mangekyo Sharingan… Koto Amatsukami!"
"What!?" Fugaku choked. "That's amazing…"
"Self-sacrifice, a nameless shinobi who protects peace from within its shadow, that is a true shinobi. Shisui taught me that. Shisui gave me his eye, trusting me to protect the village with it. He asked me to hide its existence and then died silently."
"So, it's true then. Sasuke is the only living Uchiha…" Fugaku regarded sadly.
Obito also looked downed from the news.
"If the brother I left behind ever became a threat to the village, as the keeper of Shisui's eye, it would mean I betrayed his trust. You were the only one who could hope to correct this."
"You called Sasuke your brother, Naruto. This is why I felt that only you could stop Sasuke if the time ever came."
Naruto smiled, unwavering, "Itachi, thank you for trusting me. You don't have to worry anymore, you've done more than enough for the village already, leave the rest to me!"
"I'm grateful, that my son has a friend like you." Fugaku regarded Naruto.
"Yeah!" Naruto gave a thumbs-up.
A large flaming skeleton used it's hand to swipe Nagato away.
"T-the Susano'o!" Fugaku laughed, eyes not leaving the screen, "My son is able to use the Susano'o! The only other person that could use it was Madara Uchiha!"
"C-calm down, dear." Mikoto pulled his sleeves.
"Sasuke can use it too."
Fugaku only smiled and laughed harder. Mumbling something about raising geniuses.
As they were being sucked up by the gravitational pull of Nagato's technique, Itachi calmly assessed the situation. "If we destroy the center of mass, that should end the technique. Let's all hit it at once with our strongest long-range attacks!"
"Smart." Minato commented.
"You don't have to aim; the gravity will pull our attacks straight to the target!"
"Yasaka's Magatama!"
"Rasenshuriken!"
"Tailed Beast Bomb!"
The three techniques crashed into the sphere of stone, completely destroying it. Nagato was stabbed by Itachi's blade.
"I'm sorry, Itachi." Nagato mumbled out.
"This is the sword of Totsuka, I'm about to seal you away permanently, any last words?"
"Naruto, I'm going back to where our teacher waits for me. To watch… how your story ends. I think you're the third part of this trilogy. The first was Jiraiya, and he was a master-piece."
"But I… I was garbage, I was a bomb. An utter failure. My way was wrong. Even our teacher wouldn't acknowledge me as a true part of the series." Nagato whispered, as his form crumbled to ashes.
"The third and final part is here, wrap it all up! Be so stellar that everyone forgets how horrible the second part was, Naruto!"
Jiraiya grunted, "I forgive you, Nagato. Now, it's time you forgive yourself."
"No, I'll end this war by myself. I'll take full responsibility, that's my role in all this." Naruto panted; the chakra exhausted was catching up to him.
"It's true, you're different. You're stronger than before, but it seems to me you might be losing sight of what's important." Minato said.
"I know, I was little too arrogant in this time." Naruto nodded.
"Listen, and listen well. If you fixate your attentions onto your 'self', becoming arrogant and forgetting others. You'll one day become like Madara."
Obito gulped.
"No matter how strong you become, don't try to bear the weight by yourself. You will fail."
"The reason your father Minato could become hokage, was because he had your mother Kushina, and all his friends. Your dream was your father's, wasn't it? Remember this well then, the village didn't acknowledge him because he became the hokage."
"He became the hokage because the village acknowledged him! Don't forget about your friends!"
Hiruzen nodded.
"Naruto, I promised this guy called Iruka or somethin'. To protect ya! I ain't letting you go alone! Besides! I'm still kickin' and bitchin'!" Bee grinned.
"There's no need for you to shoulder all of this alone." Kakashi told Naruto, waving his hand dismissively. "That's why we have comrades, even if they are incompetent."
"…" Obito took a second, "What was that, dumbass?!"
Rin had to intervene to make sure another fight wouldn't start.
The orb changed, Inoichi whispering to let Naruto know which one would be starting next.
"The next memory skips ahead a few hours or days, I can't really remember, Madara will be making his entrance."
The audience shivered at the thought but motioned for Naruto and Inoichi to continue.
A coffin emerged from the ground, and unlike the normal lid dropping to the ground, the lid cracked and exploded outwards. A hand reached out, "So, it finally happened, it would appear that little brat Nagato managed to grow…"
"Naruto? Are you okay?" Minato asked, seeing his son quiver.
"Y-yeah, just some bad memories."
"It can't be… This next summoning…"
"Did you say Reanimation?! Isn't that the technique known as a complete atrocity against the entire flow of life and death in the universe?!"
"Who's this guy?" Obito asked Naruto.
"You'll find out in just a moment…"
"So, you've come…" Ohnoki started, "Madara Uchiha!"
Madara stood on the rock, glaring down at the shinobi below. His red armor clanking softly in the wind, long raven hair flowing behind him, the Sharingan spinning slowly in his eyes.
"Wait… But didn't that Tobi guy say he was Madara?!" Obito gaped, "The Shinobi Alliance received intelligence that Madara was heading towards the tailed beast's hosts!"
"…Then who in the world is the man behind that mask?!" Jiraiya asked the question everyone was asking.
"So, if that right in front of us is the real Madara, then the person we thought was Madara this whole time, was someone else?"
"Quite possibly." Gaara concurred.
Madara leapt down and fired of a wide-spreading flame technique.
"What a powerful technique, usually you'll need multiple people to fire off such a wide-scale technique." Fugaku said, awed at the power of his ancestor.
As the scenes changed, Fugaku was shocked again, "The Susano'o… The Shinobi Alliance is doomed." He put a hand to his head, "And he has the Mangekyo Sharingan."
"Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan." Naruto corrected him.
"Even worse." Fugaku groaned.
Naruto threw the Rasenshuriken at Madara while Gaara pulled him out of the Susasno'o with sand, sending him on a collision path with Naruto's technique.
"Yeah! Instant kill, baby!" Obito cheered.
"That's a bit too much." Madara said as his eyes swirled to the Rinnegan, soaking up the Rasenshuriken.
"Crap..."
The scene changed.
Hiruzen fell back onto his seat. "Dear lord…"
"This is… on an entirely different level." Rin said, her hands covering her mouth.
Tsunade felt nauseous just looking at the scale of the attack that Madara just launched.
A large meteor, as though sent down from the heavens itself, came plummeting down, blotting out the sun.
"Is this the power of a god?" Gaara asked.
