Does Cassie ever tell Sam all the things about her past that she told Jake in the early movies? I like to think about the scenes and conversations that we don't see on the show. I don't own Good Witch or any of the characters.
A Christmas Confession
Cassie and Sam were excitedly preparing for Christmas they had been engaged a few months and were looking forward to having a big family Christmas together. They sat at the Grey House kitchen table deciding which gifts to buy everyone, a bracelet for Grace, computer game for Nick, earrings for Abigail and a kneeling pad for George to protect his knees while he enjoyed tending to his plants in the garden. Sam thought back to the fun christmases of his youth, before he married Linda. His parents would always get into the holiday spirit decorating a tree and buying him something great to go under it, though as he wasn't fond of surprises he would always sneak downstairs and open his gifts in advance before re-wrapping them carefully. He remembered the excitement of secretly knowing he would be receiving something great, one year it had been a remote control car, another a microscope. Grinning he turned and said to Cassie, "what is the best Christmas present you have ever been given?" Cassie's relaxed smile slowly slipped from her lips as her mind drifted to all the long lonely Christmases spent in a succession of foster homes after her parents had died where she would be lucky to get anything more than some colouring pens. Then she thought about Jake and how he had pulled out all the stops to give her a family for Christmas by marrying her on Christmas eve. Her breath caught as a pang of loss hit her she turned away to make some tea so that Sam wouldn't see the tears she was blinking out of her eyes. While Sam didn't see her tears he had seen the sparkle in her eyes slowly dull as she contemplated his question then he heard the slight catch in her breath as she quickly turned away reaching for the kettle. Cassie feeling unusually emotional took in a deep breath in a bid to calm and rebalance herself. She said over her shoulder, "Ooh I don't know, it's hard to choose. Do you want some coffee?" Her voice was full of false cheer and they both knew it. Sam stood up and went over, she was still fiddling with the kettle her back to him so he slid his arms around her, holding her tight he kissed her neck and said "I'm a great listener, tell me about it?" Cassie paused for a moment enjoying the feeling of security his strong arms gave her. Cassie hadn't like to talk with Sam about Jake since the Tarynsville book launch 14 months before but thinking about the past had shaken her off balance and she was struggling to repackage it back into her mind fast enough to convince him she was ok. Sam sensed her indecision, they hadn't really talked about her youth other than her briefly telling him, on the day they had admitted there was something between them, that she had always wanted a big house as she moved around so many foster placements after her parents died. He said gently, "I love you Cassie, talk to me so I can understand what is going on inside that mind of yours. Let's have some tea then you can start at the beginning." Cassie acquiesced they sat on the sofa together, she snuggled into his side with her head on his chest ear listening to the calming rhythm of his heart beating. She closed her eyes and let her mind wander back deciding that as she had with Jake she would tell him everything. Sam sat with his arm round her enjoying the warmth and weight of her on his chest he was happy to wait while she collected her thoughts knowing she would share when she was ready.
" My parents were performers we travelled together all over Europe, it was a magical time. When I was 9 we were staying in an apartment just outside Zurich, one night they were tucking me into bed before heading out to do a late performance, when I got a really bad feeling. I pleaded with them not to go but they told me not to be silly, that they would be fine and home before I woke in the morning. They died in a car crash that night on the way home from the venue, I was woken by police at the door in the early hours and told they were gone. They shoved a few things in a suitcase for me, gave me my mothers wedding ring then sent me back to the US where I spent the next 5 years being moved from one foster place to the next never really fitting in anywhere. I wound up at my foster mother Doris's, while we have a good relationship now we didn't then, she was so strict and controlling she killed the magic and I felt lost. So after 4 years I ran away to college changing my name so no one would be able to find me or hurt me again. After college I travelled all over the world seeing some of the art and cultures I had studied at first with John, Brook and Mark working a dig in Istanbul then on my own. I was always searching for a place where I would fit in and be able to call home, eventually learned that I had inherited Grey House from my mothers side of the family the Merriwicks. I was in Vietnam at the time but I had such a strong urge to come here I set off at once. When I arrived Grey House was derelict so I started fixing it up, met Jake and opened Bell Book and Candle. Jake was the first customer in my shop, he stood up for me, helped me settle into town and feel at home. Over time we fell in love and decided to get married but we couldn't seem to find the right date. We got to a week before Christmas he came to Grey House to tell me he had been trying to think of the perfect present for me and decided we should get married on Christmas Eve so I could wake up on Christmas morning with everything I had ever wanted, a family. We had 6 days and problems at every turn but it all worked out, so my best present ever was waking up knowing I wasn't alone anymore I had a whole family who loved me." Cassie, breathed a sigh of relief that she had finally shared everything with him. She waited for Sam to speak tho she wasn't worried his calm steady heartbeat and the loving caress from his arm spoke volumes. Sam sat there in awe, how someone who had lived such an unconventional life and endured so much heartache could be so calm and balanced was a mystery to him. He didn't know where to start so he just reached out putting his finger under her chin so she looked him in the eye and he said "I love you, Cassie!" " I love you too." She replied. They were just about to get up when Sam said "Hang on a second, did you say you changed your name?… What was it before?" Cassie knew he would pick up on that eventually looked at him shyly and said quietly, "Sue-Ellen Brock" Sam chuckled, " I know you'll never stop surprising me, it's one of the things I love about you! Thanks for telling me, though I guess we are sticking with Cassie?" She laughed, "Yes, we are!"
