Author's Note: I've got a lot to say about the show and the direction this story is going in, so I'll save it for the end. This one's gonna be short 'cause I ran out of time. Sorry.

Shattering Illusions
Due to a lack of walls, Moon and River awoke to the sound of guards running up and down the halls. The older woman groaned while her husband moved away from her to tie a robe around himself.
"Whatever are they making all that noise for?" Moon wondered, taking the robe River held out for her. "Can't we just have one peaceful night?"
"Moon," Heckapoo called from somewhere down the corridor. She ran over and found them more than displeased with the unofficial wake up call. "We've got a problem."
"What is it now?" The former monarch questioned.
"Star attacked us and ran away," Rhombulus shouted as he ran up to Heckapoo.
"What!" Moon gasped.
"It's true," the fiery woman lied. "She was performing dark magic when we found her. We asked her to stop but then she began to attack us. She said we were evil liars that couldn't be trusted. She slipped out before we could stop her."
"No…no, Star would never," Moon said in a daze. Sure, her little girl was hotheaded, but she would never attack someone outright. "Which direction did she go?" The former queen stepped into the hall. "Guards, fetch me a warnicorn."
"We didn't see where she went but-," River shoved the Commission member aside.
"Moon, my dear, you can't go after her. She's probably with Eclipsa," River reminded her.
"River, I have to find out what's really going on," Moon argued. "Star doesn't attack people."
"She's…," Heckapoo shoved the shorter man off of her. "She's obviously switched sides. All monsters are evil, and she's chosen to join them."
"Not all monsters," Moon whispered. What was it that Star had said? Buff Frog saved her and helped them hide from Toffee. Star had also pointed out that many of the royal families of Mewni were a form of monster. This was what Star had been trying to tell her. The Commission were far too concerned with controlling the Butterflies than they were about justice. "I'm going to find Star and that's that."
"But…," Rhombulus began.
"Silence," Moon ordered, maintaining her regal composure. "Unless you have information on Star's whereabouts, I don't want to hear anything from either of you."
As she was about to dismiss them, Omnitraxus Prime suddenly appeared from a rift. "Eclipsa and Star Butterfly are working to together!"
"We know, Omni," Moon answered. "How did you get free? Was it Star?"
"Um…no. Eclipsa let me out, but only after I told her what happened to Globgor."
"Shut up, Omni," Heckapoo warned, placing a hand on the orb as if it were his mouth.
Moon looked between the three suspicious members. "Where were they?"
"Monster Temple," Omni informed.
"Omni, what the heck!" Heckapoo lifted the orb, threatening to throw it in another portal.
"That's where I'm going. Go away and keep your secrets somewhere else," Moon grumbled. She re-entered her room to change into something comfortable for riding.
"Are you sure about this, Moon? What if Star really is evil now?"
"River, I'm not going to abandon our daughter because the Commission said she turned evil. Our daughter needs us. I can't believe I stopped listening to her when she needed me most," Moon sighed. She plaited her hair, turning to her frowning husband. "Listen, River, I'm going to need you and Marco to keep an eye on the Commission. We both know that Star only attacks when provoked. Why were they even around her room?"
"Well, you make a good point. You told the guards not to let anyone near her except for us and Marco. The Commission even knew you didn't want them near her," he gasped. "What if she's been switched with a clone or something?"
"River…I don't actually know if that's a thing. First, I'm going to go check her room. Maybe she left a clue somewhere about what she plans on doing." Moon tied a cloak around her. "Remember, keep on eye on the Commission, I don't know if we can trust them."
"You can count on me, sweetheart," he declared before giving her a kiss. "Just remember to be careful."
"I will," she promised. Moon made her way to Star's room, hoping that she would find something to prove her daughter's innocence. She was surprised to find her daughter's door barely hanging off its hinges. Before her and Marco had left, the room had been completely repaired. This did not bode well, for the two. Inside, Moon found the room in a mess with lots of Star's possessions crystallized. However, there were minimal signs of Star's magic. There were areas that had been burned, most likely by Heckapoo. As she turned to leave, she spied a little paper ball that rested a little ways under the teen's bed.
"What's this?" Moon voiced aloud. She retrieved it and felt like she had won the lottery. It was a list of things Star was planning to do. "Find evidence for Eclipsa. Defeat the Commission. Make Eclipsa queen again. Prove monsters are good. Talk to Mom and have a happy ending." The last item made Moon sad a little. Even with all the stress that she'd been under, Star still wanted to make amends with her mother. And what did I do? Moon thought to herself. That's right, I said that she was being immature.
Making up her mind, Moon made her way down to the stables to rush after her daughter. She needed to talk to Star, get on the same page as her, and help her cross each item off her list. Even though the thought of Eclipsa made the thought of her skin crawl, Moon still wanted to be there for her daughter. She pushed the poor steed as fast as humanely possible. It wouldn't do to kill the poor thing just because she didn't know how to communicate with her daughter. She reached Monster Temple by midday but didn't see a sign of either of the two. She did, however, find signs that the Commission members had which gave her reason to pause. In a room deep below the temple, she found what must have been a nursey at one point. There were two little play dolls of Eclipsa and who she guessed was Globgor.
She spied some writing underneath the crib and carefully moved the curtain away. Hidden in the dark was another little list of things to do. It looked to be Star's handwriting as well, which eased some of Moon's worry. The list was the same with two added items: go to St. Olga's and convince Mom to help Eclipsa. Moon frowned. St. Olga's was abandoned, what did the two hope to find there? Remounting her steed, Moon set off to catch up with her daughter and, dare she even think it, her new mother-figure?

"You know, this place is waaaayyyy creepier without all the princesses," Star told Eclipsa. She side stepped some broken teacups and jumped as a mouse ran by. "Yup, definitely creepy."
"What exactly should we be looking for?" Eclipsa shined the light emanating from her wand at a nearby portrait. Meteora snored from the little carrier she sat in around the older woman's chest. Checking to make sure she was still asleep, Eclipsa gave her a peck on the top of her head.
"I guess the office, or wherever it is that people keep student records," Star guessed. "I never was a big fan of school. I got into a lot of trouble while on Earth because I refused to do my homework."
"Studies were better than watching my mother rally Mewni to slaughter innocent monsters," the queen admitted.
"Uh, yeah. That makes sense. Maybe that's why my mom finds it so hard to let monsters in. I mean, Toffee did kill her mom in cold blood."
"Toffee killed your grandmother?" The older woman looked over at the blonde teen.
"Yeah, though mom didn't tell me until we were under attack by Toffee and his gang."
"Oh," Eclipsa said softly, "Toffee killed my mother too."
Star snapped her head in Eclipsa's direction. "What?"
"She fought monsters, Star. He wasn't exactly pleased to see her as Queen of Mewni, none of the monsters were. So, he defeated her in battle."
"Is that why you were forced to marry King Shastacan?"
"I didn't have much of a choice, I'm afraid. It was that or continue my mother's legacy. I wasn't about to keep slaughtering the innocent just to satisfy the Commission and the other backwards thinkers."
"I'm sorry you had to deal with that after your mother died, but at least you understood that the monsters were just trying to protect themselves," Star said wistfully. They found the office and entered to find a projector hooked up to an old robot. "What the heck is that creepy thing?"
"It's St. Olga," Eclipsa informed. The video appeared to be in a loop and had just finished. The countdown from ten began again. "I wonder-," the older woman gasped as she spotted Moon in the door. "Queen Moon."
"Eclipsa," Moon answered shortly. "Oh, Star, thank goodness you're all right!" She went to hug the teen, her face dropping when her sentiments weren't returned.
"How did you find us?" The teen questioned, moving to protect Eclipsa and the sleeping Meteora.
"Star, it's okay," Moon began. "I'm not here to take you back, I'm here to help you."
"I don't believe you. Why should I trust you when you locked me away?"
"I was wrong to be angry with you and ignore what you were saying," Moon said, cupping her hands together. There was a loud beep as the screen began to play.
In pale colors, an image of King Shastacan and the Commission appeared. In the monarchs hands was a little giggling Meteora. He stared down at her with deep hatred and disgust, thrusting the child away from her. He asked St. Olga to remove the infant from his care as Heckapoo produced another child. The swap was effortless but far more damning than anything they had ever seen. Eclipsa gasped in horror as Meteora was named Heinous and was forced to hide her differences. If Moon had had any doubts before, they were quickly muted in response to St. Olga's memories. Two things were abundantly clear to Moon though, Star had been right, and the Commission were liars.
Eclipsa clutched Meteora to her more tightly, softs sobs coming from the woman. "My poor baby, you didn't deserve any of that."
"Do you see now? The Commission-."
"Are liars," Moon finished. "I didn't want to believe it and I'm very sorry for doubting you." Star sniffed loudly before running and hugging her mother.
"I knew you wouldn't abandon me," Star said shakily, burying her head in her mother's neck.

Author's Note: Okay, so I seemed to have repressed the memory of Moon being a grade-A screw-up in Season 4. I understand that it's Disney's fault that Daron and the Crew made the decisions that they did for each character. However, I love Moon very much and I'm not going to make her into that terrible of a person. As for the Commission, nah, they're gonna burn.
