Chapter Five: Battle for the Boulder Badge
Just outside of Pewter City, Team Rocket was in the middle of the road digging a hole. "To protect the world from devastation." Jessie said starting their motto "To unite all peoples within our nation." James said chiming in "To denounce the evils of truth and love, to extend our reach to the stars above." Both Jessie and James said continuing their motto at the same time "Jessie." She said "James." James said saying his name "Hey!" Meowth said ramming a shovel into the ground getting Jessie and James's attention, clearly not in the mood to do his part of the motto. "I don't understand why I'm the one doing all of the dirty work while to two get to goof around." He said terribly angry
"He's right, we don't have much time." Jessie said, "If they're heading to Pewter City, which I'm positive they are, they'll have to past through here." James said "Well then, come on! Or otherwise they'll catch us instead of us catching them" Meowth shouted as both James and Jessie grabbed a shovel and started digging "First we dig it deep; then cover it up so well they won't even notice the trap." Meowth said as he and his crew finished completing the trap "There, perfect." Meowth said when James suddenly yelled in terror "We've covered it up so well that I don't even remember where we dug the trap." He said "Uh, I don't know either, Meowth please tell me that you remember where we dug our trap." Jessie pleaded but Meowth just groaned in disappointment "I wish I could Jess." The cat Pokemon said
"Uh! Didn't we dig it over here?" Jessie said pointing to a random location "No, it's over there." Meowth said pointing to a totally different area "Wait, isn't it here?" James questioned as he pointed to the ground he was standing on "Oh just great." Jessie said after she groaned in frustration as she and the others gathered to one spot "We've completely lost the trap. This is all your fault James! If you hadn't covered it beyond recognition, we wouldn't be in this mess!" Jessie said angrily "What?! Why are you blaming me for this?" James questioned sounding offended "Well, I have to blame somebody." Jessie said when they started to sink "Huh?" They all said looking down then sank further "I think we found it." James said as they fell into the trap and was then buried buy the loose dirt.
Unfortunately, Team Rocket's guess on where Ash and the gang would be passing ended up being wrong because they were now just walking through a rocky terrain when Ash spotted something in the distant. Excited, he ran towards the edge of the path and stood on top a large boulder and got a clearer view of the city in front of him "Yay, it's Pewter City!" Misty shouted as she and Anaya caught up with Ash "We finally made it." Anaya said sounding relieved as Ash sat down on the boulder and let out a quick breath of exhaustion "For a while there I thought I'd never get out of that forest." He said "Chu." Pikachu said also sitting down also looking exhausted "Pii-chu." Chuot Dien said looking worn out as well.
"Do you want to go to the Pokemon Center before our Gym battle Chuot Dien?" Anaya asked "Chu." Chuot Dien said with a single nod of its head "Pewter City is gray, the color of stone. This town has always been famous for its stones." A man's deep voice said coming from below them "What the…Who's this old guy?" Ash questioned once he saw a tanned skin man sitting just beneath where they were standing. The man wore a yellow t-shirt with rolled up sleeves, a black belt with a silver buckle, dark teal cargo pants, black shoes, and white gloves. A red beanie covered his head and his beard covered most of his face. "Why are you asking us we've never met him." Anaya snipped at him
"The name's Flint, and you, young man, are sitting on some of my merchandise." The man named Flint said "Oh, sorry." He said standing up but made no attempt to get off the rock "Now you're making it worse, he's telling you to get off it not stand on it." Anaya said pulling Ash off the rock "Hey, not so hard!" Ash shouted, "Quit complaining." Anaya said as she jumped down from the ledge "Hold on, are you telling us that you sell rocks?" Misty questioned as she and Ash walked down from a sloop not far "They're Pewter City souvenirs, wanna buy some?" Flint asked, "No thanks." Ash replied kindly "These are souvenirs?" Anaya questioned "Yes. Is there a problem with that?" Flint asked
"Uh no problem. But why are you selling a rock that's the size of a small car?" Anaya asked pointing to the large boulder Ash was sitting on "Well, a lot of sculptors come to Pewter City to buy the stones. As I said before, this city has always been famous for its stones." Flint explained "I suppose so; but that doesn't make them souvenirs." Anaya said "Well uh; yeah I guess you're right. So uh, what are you kids doing?" Flint asked, "He changed that subject quick." Anaya said to herself "We're all on a Pokemon journey. I'm training to become a Pokemon Master." Ash said "Ah, I see." Flint said as Pikachu sighed still looking weary
"Well, your Pikachu looks worn out." Flint said noticing Pikachu's exhaustion "No, I think he's just tired after dealing with Ash for so long, I feel you." Anaya said, "Talk about the pot calling the kettle black." Ash said looking agitated "Well, why don't you three follow me to the Pokemon Center so all of your Pokemon can get healed." Flint said getting up then walking away "Well, I guess looks can be deceiving. Flint's a really nice guy." Ash said, "Are you positive?" Misty asked sounding doubtful "Oh by the way, that will be a 2-dollar charge for sitting and standing on my rock." Flint said making Ash and Misty fall flat "Spoke too soon." Anaya said "Pichu." Chuot Dien said not really in the mood to deal with this.
When Ash and Anaya arrived at the Pokemon Center with Misty, they immediately went to the front desk "Please, could you heal my Pokemon." Ash said sitting a completely drained Pikachu and his other two Pokeballs on the counter "Mine as well." Anaya said doing the same "Don't worry we'll heal both of your Pokemon right away." Nurse Joy said who was the same Nurse Joy that the one in Viridian City was talking to on the phone "Huh?! Nurse Joy?" Ash questioned sounding confused "Yes, that's me." She said happily "Uh; am I seeing things? Because I was certain I was in Pewter City not Viridian City." Ash said checking his surroundings Anaya just sighed and said "Newbie."
Ash glared at her while Nurse Joy just giggled "No Ash, you're not seeing things. The Joy in Viridian City is my younger sister. I've heard nice things about the both of you." Nurse Joy said "Oh, uh, thank you." Ash said stunned "By the way, have either of you seen that poster up there?" Nurse Joy questioned then took both Ash's and Anaya's Pokemon to the back as the two trainers turned around and saw a poster displaying the Indigo League "Say, isn't this what you were talking about Anaya?" Ash asked her "Yep, and today's the day I start going for gym badges. I've been studying long and hard for this, once my Pokemon are all feeling better I'm heading to the gym." Anaya said with a fire of determination in her eyes
"Hmm." Ash said with a look that pretty much said he was thinking "Ok! I've decided to start going for gym badges too and compete in the Indigo League." Ash said now looking determined as well "Oh really? Can you defeat eight trainers and gather their gym badges?" Anaya questioned "Of course I can." Ash said when they suddenly heard a man laugh looking towards the source of the laughing, they then saw Flint "Don't tell me you two are planning to challenge Brock?" Flint asked walking up to them "And the dead know it; Once my Pokemon are all healed up, it's off to the Pewter gym." Anaya said as that fire returned to her eyes
"And that goes for me as well." Ash said making Flint laugh again "What makes you two think you can defeat Brock?" Flint asked, "My gut." Ash responded, pretty quickly as a matter of fact "Which means his overconfidence. I, on the other hand have been studying and training hard for this day. I know the Pewter City Gym, a rock type gym, is led by Brock Harrison, a rock type expert. I've also been studying rock type weaknesses and strengths." Anaya said "So what? Even though I didn't study rock type strengths and weaknesses I'll still get that badge." Ash said making both Anaya and Misty groan in irritation and Flint laugh
"Good luck with that strategy kid." Flint said and was about to walk away when he stopped "A little advice to the blonde." Flint said getting Anaya's attention "Studying about Pokemon strengths and weaknesses will only get you so far." He said, Anaya face went from confused to determined once again "Of course, the only way to truly win is with the bond with your Pokemon, no amount of strength can overcome that." Anaya said "Hmm, you may be onto something kid. But don't expect Brock to go easy on you." Flint said "I wouldn't expect any less from a gym leader. Besides where's the fun in that?" Anaya questioned making Flint chuckle
"The boy in the cap could use some training of his own though." Flint said and laughed as he walked away Ash groaned "That Flint, trying to make a fool out of me." Ash said extremely offended "He didn't have to make a fool out of you, you've already accomplished that yourself." Anaya said "I'm sorry, but in order for you to insult me, I must first value your opinion. Good try though." Ash said as he and Anaya glared at each other "Oh by the way, your name is Anaya correct?" Nurse Joy asked breaking up the fight between the two "Yeah, that's me." Anaya said looking confused as she and the other two trainers walked up to the front desk "Well then..." Nurse Joy started then bent down and picked up a small brown package.
"I have a package for you." She said holding the package out to Anaya "Oh, thank you Nurse Joy." Anaya said taking the package "Who's it from?" Misty asked, "I'm more curious on what's inside." Ash said when Anaya's face lit up "Hey, it's from Professor Lilithan." She said "Professor Lilithan?" Ash questioned "Didn't you say Professor Lilithan was the one who gave you Chuot Dien?" Misty asked Anaya replied with a nod "Well, don't keep us waiting, open it up and see what's inside." Ash said "Ok, just chill." Anaya said as she opened the package. Inside was a piece of paper with writing and a strange looking device that was round like a watch. But instead of a clock face it had another smaller circle inside that had a shallow indentation and was made of a tough rubber like material.
On the outside of the outer circle was four small clip-like ends that seemed to hold the two circles together. Connected to it was a keypad that had letters on them. On the bottom of the device was a Velcro strap that was the perfect size for a human wrist. "Huh? What exactly is that thing?" Ash questioned "I'm not sure, it's probably one of Professor Lilithan's inventions." Anaya said, "If I'm correct, Professor Lilithan is not just a Pokemon Professor, but she's also a very famous inventor." Nurse Joy said "Yep, she was the one who invented the Pokemon type device I showed you guys a few days ago." Anaya said "Wow, really?" Misty asked sounding impressed "Yeah, and I can't tell you how handy it has become for me." Anaya said
"So, what does this device do? There aren't any instructions." Ash said inspecting the device which was then snatched from his hands by Anaya "I will find out once I read this note." Anaya said picking up the note and starting to read it "What does it say Anaya?" Misty asked as Anaya got up "It just says for me to call her once I get this package. I was gonna call her after I had my battle anyways. But I guess now is a good time." Anaya said
Anaya stood in front of the video phone while the ringback tone was playing telling Anaya that her call was going through and was ringing on the other end. Suddenly, the screen turned on and revealed a caramel colored haired woman with green eyes and light skin. She wore thin rectangle glasses but the left side of the glasses along with her eye was covered by her bangs. She wore a red top with navy blue pants and black work shoes with a white lab coat that went down to her thighs. "Hi Professor Lilithan." Anaya said, "Hey there Anaya, I'm guessing, since you're calling me, that you've finally gotten my package delivered to you." Professor Lilithan said
"Yes, I have, and I'm guessing you wanted to call me because you want to explain what it is and how to use it." Anaya said "Brilliant as always, I knew you'd probably need some instructions on how to use it; I would've sent some with the device, but I'd figure that this is easier for you. Oh? Are these your friends?" Professor Lilithan said now noticing Misty and Ash "I guess, but I've only just met them." Anaya said "Hi, I'm Ash Ketchum." Ash said introducing himself "Hello, I'm Misty." Misty said also introducing herself, "It's very nice to meet you two." Professor Lilithan said with a kind and gentle smile "So, about the device Professor." Anaya said bring Professor Lilithan's attention back to her.
"Oh yes, I'm sure you know by now that trainers can only carry up to six Pokemon with them." Professor Lilithan started to explain "Of course I knew that." Anaya said, "I think everybody does." Misty said, "Well I sure didn't!" Ash shouted Misty just sighed while Professor Lilithan looked shocked and confused "Just ignore him." Anaya said Professor Lilithan snapped out of her daze and cleared her throat "Well, that doesn't mean you can't catch as many Pokemon as you want. The thing is, when you're carrying six Pokemon and catch another, your pokeball will shrink and the button will turn red preventing you from unshrinking it and that creates a lot of problems." Professor Lilithan said "How so, Professor?" Misty asked
"Well Misty, in order for you to use that specific Pokemon, or any of your other Pokemon for that matter, you'll have to go and find a Pokemon Center and send the Pokemon you just caught or one of your other Pokemon to use them to the Professor that gave to your Pokedex. While the Pokeball transporter has helped in tremendous ways, the only place that has the Pokeball teleporter are Pokemon Centers. Sometimes gas stations and small convenient stores while have them but not all the time. But what really causes a lot of problems is the fact some trainers are just too far from a Pokemon Center and they sometimes need immediate emergency attention, and that can be frustrating as well as dangerous." Professor Lilithan said
"Yeah, I get it, I had something similar happen to me with Pikachu. It was pretty close but luckily, it survived." Ash said "That's a good example Ash. Sadly, not all trainers get so lucky. So, that's when a thought popped up in my head 'What if trainers could just bring the teleporter with them?' But I knew that the teleporter was too big to carry and that's when the idea of a Portable Pokeball Teleporter came into light." Professor Lilithan said "So that's what this is." Anaya said holding the teleporter up "Right. If you ever needed a specific Pokemon all you need to do it type in the Pokemon's name which will then transmit me a message and then I can send the necessary Pokemon to you. What's even better is that if one of your Pokemon are critically injured, you just have to type in the emergency code and send your Pokemon to be healed immediately. I'm hoping this will make living with Pokemon and training with them a whole lot easier." Professor Lilithan said
"Of course, it will." Misty said, "Having a Pokeball teleporter will make everybody happy." Ash said "Professor, this invention of yours will be a huge success." Anaya said with her face beaming with happiness "I appreciate that Anaya, but…" Professor Lilithan started "But what?" Anaya asked as her smile turned upside down "Well, the portable teleporter is still in the developing stages. The one I gave you is only the final prototype. But I figure I'd give it to you as a test run Anaya." Professor Lilithan said "Ah, I see. Well even so, I'm sure this is gonna come in handy." Anaya said "Good, I have to get back to work but let me know if you need anything or if there's any problems." Professor Lilithan said "I will, see ya later." Anaya said, "Take care Anaya." Professor Lilithan said and hung up disappearing from the screen "Professor Lilithan's really nice." Misty said "Yeah, and she's pretty cool too." Anaya said with a smile
Later Ash and the two girls went to the Pokemon Center's cafeteria to get a bite to eat while waiting for their Pokemon to be healed "I wonder what Pokemon Brock is gonna use?" Ash questioned with a little bit of food still in his mouth "Did you not heard me talking to Flint? I said the Pewter City gym is a rock type gym. So, you can bet that he's gonna be using rock type Pokemon." Anaya said, "Ok then, where are you going at?" Ash questioned mouth now empty "Ash! You only have three Pokemon and none of them are water types or grass types!" Anaya exclaimed trying to get Ash to think logically "So what? My Pokemon are still strong, they can overcome anything this Brock guy throws at us." Ash said, "Do you seriously think you can win that way?" Anaya asked "Anaya is right. Both of us have said that gym battles are different, they're more experienced and a whole lot stronger." Misty said
"So, Anaya doesn't have much experience either." Ash snapped then gobbled down a bowl of chicken and rice "At least I'm going into my battle with a strategy." Anaya said with a sweat drop while glared at her with daggers in his eyes "I'll tell you what, Ash. If you ask me really nicely, I'll help you out." Misty said as Ash began to stuff his mouth full of food once again "I don't need any help." Ash said with a mouthful and still continued stuffing his face "No, you just need mental help." Anaya said looking annoyed but still proceeded to eat while Misty looked angry "Well, is that so? Fine by me, there's no way in Arceus' name you'll beat Brock and win that badge." Misty said then scoffed as she left, which Ash didn't really care about all that much, that is until he saw the amount on the bill a little too late.
"Oh great; Misty you can leave us with the bill!" Ash shouted back at her but she either was ignoring him or she just didn't hear him because she just kept on walking, "What do you mean by us? I don't have any money." Anaya said making Ash fall flat "Hold on, how do you pay for your food and other supplies?" Ash questioned her as he got up pretty quickly, this made Anaya a little bit nervous "Well, I usually have some money on me but if I'm desperate I try to see if anyone is willing to let me work for money or food. Besides it's not like I don't have any money I just don't right now." Anaya said explaining herself "That didn't make any sense at all." Ash said with a sweat drop then groaned in frustration
After Ash paid for the lunch, he and Anaya went back to the Pokemon Center and picked up Pikachu and Chuot Dien along with the rest of the Pokemon "Well, all of your Pokemon are revived and back to good health." Nurse Joy said, "That's awesome, thank you Nurse Joy." Ash said "Yes, thank you." Anaya said as Pikachu and Chuot Dien both hopped onto each of their trainer's shoulders "Chu." Pikachu said "Chu-Pichu!" Chuot Dien squealed sounding happy "Glad you're feeling better Awa-chan." Anaya said when the small electric mouse noticed the teleporter on its trainer's wrist "Pichu, pichu?" Chuot Dien asked "Oh, what's this? It's called a Portable Pokeball teleporter, Professor Lilithan gave it to me while you were being healed, pretty neat huh Awa-chan." Anaya said "Pichu!" Chuot Dien shouted in agreement.
Both Ash and Anaya walked up to the Pewter City gym that was mostly made out of rocks and had two bronze colored metal beams on each side and connected into one on the top. The door was also bronze colored and was protruding outward. "So, this is the Pewter City gym? Sure, looks weird." Ash said "You're here for a gym battle not to criticizes building design. Besides, gyms are fashioned to look like the Pokemon type they use. But I've seen pictures of other gyms before and the style doesn't even come close to looking like the type of Pokemon they use, it just depends on the Gym Leader's style." Anaya said behind him "Well, whaddaya know." Ash said when he then spotted something hiding behind a tree.
"We've got company." Ash said pointing to the tree that a redhead girl was standing behind "Huh?" Anaya questioned and looked back towards where Ash was pointing to, that's when she noticed Misty trying to hide from them "Oh for the love of Mew Misty, if you want to watch the battle all you have to do is say it." Anaya shouted at her Misty groaned "How did you know it was me?" Misty asked "Simple, you're the only redheaded girl that's been following us." Anaya said as Misty came out of her hiding spot and walked up to the two trainers "Aw, see, look who does care." Ash said trying to tease her "Listen you, I'm not here to watch you battle 'Cause I know you're gonna lose. I'm only here to watch Anaya battle and then I'll be leaving." Misty said
"Geeze, you didn't have to go and impale me like that." Ash said "Well this ain't the middle ages either. Seriously, who uses the word impale these days?" Anaya questioned "It was a Metaphor!" Ash shouted "Wow, I'm surprised you knew the word metaphor and its actual definition." Anaya said pushing his buttons "I don't have time for the two of you, let's go Pikachu." Ash said as he walked towards the doors and opened them but was then pushed down by Anaya "Ladies first loser." Anaya said as she walked into the gym, Ash growled as he got back up "Hello, anybody here?" Anaya called out as Ash, Misty, and Pikachu walked into the gym "Ugh, I can barely see anything." Ash said as the three trainers walked into the gym a little further.
"Who goes there?" A voice asked as a spotlight turned on revealing a boy about 15 years of age. He had tan skin and... well, nobody knows what color of eyes he has since they are mostly shut 24/7. His hair color was brown, and he wore an orange shirt with a green vest and brown pants along with blue and white sneakers. He sat cross legged on a rock made platform. Anaya turned her head towards where he was sitting "So, you must be Brock Harrison, the Pewter City gym leader." Anaya said as she turned her whole body facing towards the teenage boy "That's right, and who might you be?" Brock asked, "My name is Anaya, I come from Minato City, and I challenge you to a gym battle!" Anaya exclaimed loudly "Hmm, is this your first Pokemon Gym battle?" Brock asked her once again
"So, what if it is? You gotta problem with that?" Anaya questioned him with determination in her voice and a smug look on her face "As a gym leader I have to accept challenges from anyone that wants to earn a Boulder Badge." Brock said, "Boulder Badge?" Ash questioned "It's the name of the badge that you earn at the Pewter Gym." Misty exclaimed "However, a gym battle is different, in the Pokemon League authorization codes, certain rules have to be followed." Brock said, "Believe me, I've studied the rules and I fully well know them and have already picked out my two Pokemon." Anaya said not at all completely fazed by Brock "Hmm?" Brock said studying Anaya then noticed Chuot Dien on her shoulder
"How long have you been with that Pokemon on your shoulder?" Brock asked again as he got up "This Brock guy sure likes asking questions." Ash said with his arms behind his head "I'm sure he's testing Anaya." Misty said, "About three months tops, same amount of time I've been traveling." Anaya said, "And you are now just going for gym badges?" Brock questioned "I wanted to get more Pokemon and get better at battling, that way I can be ready for whatever comes my way." Anaya said "I gotta say, I like your spirit. But your Pichu doesn't stand a chance against my rock type Pokemon, no matter how cute it is." Brock said "Piiiichuuuu!" Chuot Dien exclaimed
"Knock it off Chuot Dien, and as for you Brock, who said I'd be using my Pichu?" Anaya asked him "Pi? Chu-pichu." Chuot Dien said sounding confused and shocked "I fully know that some rock type Pokemon are also ground types which means electric types have no effect on them, so my Pichu is out of the question." Anaya said "Pichu, pichu." Chuot Dien said looking totally disappointed "Aww, Chuot Dien really wanted to battle." Misty said "I'm sorry Chuot Dien, but if we're gonna win our first gym battle we can't just rely on your spirit. We need a solid plan that will gain us a victory, your electric attacks won't be effective against Brock's Pokemon. But I promise you'll be in the next one, ok Awa-chan." Anaya said trying to comfort her partner
"Pichu." Chuot Dien said as though it agreed but still didn't look too happy "I've got to say, it looks like you and your Pichu are good friends and you've obviously have done you're research. But don't expect me to go easy on you." Brock said "Oh don't worry, I didn't expect you to, and I don't want you to either. I want my opponents to give everything they've got." Anaya said, "Then let's begin." Brock said then snapped his fingers, the light above turned on then the floor began to move which then revealed a huge rock field "So cool!" Anaya exclaimed "Forrest, please come out, we've got a challenger!" Brock shouted, "I'm coming!" A small voice said and out from a side hallway came a little boy that looked extremely like Brock
"Whoa, he looks like he could be a miniature Brock." Misty said as she and Ash looked shocked "Alright, you remember how to judge a battle?" Brock asked "Yep, I've been memorizing everything you told me." The young boy named Forrest said "Great, now take your mark." Brock said "Right!" Forrest said as he made his way towards the side of the battlefield "That's Forrest my younger brother. He'll be the referee." Brock said explaining to Anaya and the others what was going on "I thought he might be your brother. You two look extremely similar." Anaya said "Yeah, everybody says that." Forrest said rubbing his head a little bit looking a little embarrassed "I know that feeling." Ash said looking peeved "You do?" Misty questioned him "Yeah, everybody says I look like my Dad." Ash said, "If you two are here to spectate, then you may watch from the balcony, the stairs are by the front door." Brock said to both Ash and Misty
"Forrest, begin the match if you will." Brock said stepping down onto the battlefield as Misty and Ash made their way up to the balcony "Right, the match between the Gym Leader Brock and…. Um, sorry I don't know your name." Forrest said rubbing the back of his head "It's Anaya." Anaya said with a giggle "Right, the match between the Gym Leader, Brock and the challenger Anaya will now begin. Each side will have the use of two Pokemon and the battle will be over when either side has defeated both of their opponent's Pokemon. Furthermore, only the challenger may substitute Pokemon. Now trainers, release your first Pokemon." Forrest said, "Just don't surrender before the battle is over." Brock said, "Believe me, I don't plan on surrendering." Anaya said, "Here's my first Pokemon, Rhyhorn go!" Brock shouted throwing a pokeball and released a spiky rhinoceros-like Pokemon with four short legs and a single horn on top of its snout.
"Cool, I wonder what Pokemon Anaya will be using." Misty said "So, a Rhyhorn." Anaya said pulling out her Pokedex "Rhyhorn, the Spikes Pokemon. Rhyhorn's brain is exceedingly small, giving it a one-track mind. Whenever it runs it usually forgets why it's running, but it won't stop until it has fallen asleep." Dexter said "So it never stops charging, gotta think of a better Pokemon. Oh, I know. Bellsprout, time to shine!" Anaya shouted as she threw a pokeball out onto the battlefield releasing the planet Pokemon "Bell!" Bellsprout shouted as it appeared from its Pokeball and landed on the battlefield. Misty did an anime fall in shock and confusion
"Wha...Why use Bellsprout?" Misty questioned "What's wrong with using Bellsprout?" Ash questioned "Oh, just be quiet." Misty said groaning "Well, smart choice on choosing a grass type against a rock type. But using a Grass and Poison type like Bellsprout against a Rock and Ground type like my Rhyhorn, wasn't the best choice." Brock said, "Oh don't worry, I've gotta plan that will help me win this battle." Anaya said, "What is she up to?" Misty questioned as Brock looked at her with confusion "She's definitely got something up her sleeve, which means I've gotta stay sharp." Brock said to himself, "Alright, let the battle begin!" Forrest shouted
"I'll start things off, Rhyhorn use Take Down!" Brock shouted "Rhy!" Rhyhorn shouted and began charging at Bellsprout at an extremely high speed. But just before Rhyhorn was able to hit Bellsprout Anaya shouted "Bellsprout, dodge it now!" Bellsprout then jumped up missing Rhyhorn by an inch "Rhy?" Rhyhorn said confused as it slid to a stop it then turned its body around and charged at Bellsprout again "Don't let up Bellsprout, keep dodging it until we find an opening!" Anaya shouted "Bell." Bellsprout said nodding its head then jumped once again just before Rhyhorn was about to land a decisive blow "Oh, I get it now." Misty said
"Huh?" Ash questioned raising his eyebrow as he faced her "I know why Anaya chose Bellsprout even though it's a poison and grass type." Misty said "Ok, why did she choose Bellsprout and to be honest I still don't understand why it's so bad choosing Bellsprout against Rhyhorn." Ash said completely lost while Misty just sighed annoyed by Ash's low I.Q. "Remember, Bellsprout's long and thin so it can bend in any direction making dodging easier." Misty explained "Oh, now I get it. But that didn't explain what's so wrong with a Bellsprout and Rhyhorn match up." Ash said making Misty groan once again "Ha, I knew there was a reason you chose that Pokemon, you're relying on Bellsprout's flexibility." Brock said as Bellsprout landed
"I figured that someone would find out my strategy sooner or later." Anaya said "Yeah, well, sorry but dodging won't help you win this battle. Rhyhorn use Stone Edge!" Brock shouted "Rhy!" Rhyhorn shouted as it reared up and then slammed hard into the ground. No sooner than that, multiple jagged, light blue, spiked stones came out of the ground and aimed straight for Bellsprout "Bellsprout! Use protect!" Anaya shouted "Bell!" Bellsprout shouted as its eyes turned a turquoise color, it then used its both leaf-like hands to form a similar looking colored force field around itself which kept the blow of the Stone Edge from hitting "Whoa, that was some quick thinking." Misty said overly impressed at Anaya's performance
"Way to go Bellsprout!" Anaya shouted, but then yelped in shock when she saw Rhyhorn charge at Bellsprout head on, it was so sudden that she didn't even have time to process her thoughts for a counterattack. Rhyhorn struck Bellsprout hard while knocking it off its root like feet "Oh no, Bellsprout!" Anaya shouted in concern as Bellsprout hit the ground hard then rebounded a few times like a rock skipping on water. "Ooh, that's gonna leave a mark." Ash said as he and Misty winced "Well done Rhyhorn." Brock said as Rhyhorn took a few steps back while watching Bellsprout slowly get up "Can you go on Bellsprout?" Anaya asked as the flower Pokemon shook itself "Bellsprout!" It shouted with regained focus "That's the spirt. Ok, now use Bullet Seed!" Anaya shouted
"Bell! Sprout!" Bellsprout yelled out as it shot multiple seeds at Rhyhorn from its mouth "Rhyhorn use Rockslide!" Brock shouted "Rhy!" Rhyhorn shouted as its body began to glow a bluish color. A white circle then appeared above Bellsprout when a large gray boulder appeared from the circle, it then splits into several smaller boulders as it fell down at a fast rate. "Bellsprout, use Hidden Power at those rocks!" Anaya shouted "Huh? What good will that do?" Misty questioned "Bell!" Bellsprout shouted as a light blue energy sphere appeared in between its leaf-like hands then fired directly at the falling rocks.
Once it hit one of the rocks it exploded creating a blast wave that projected and dispersed outward. "That was incredible!" Misty said, "We've got 'em now. Ok Bellsprout use Razor Leaf!" Anaya shouted "Bell, sprout!" Bellsprout cried out as it shot multiple leaves from its two large leaves aiming directly at Rhyhorn "Rhyhorn, quick, use Sandstorm!" Brock shouted "Rhy!" Rhyhorn shouted as it once again reared up and slammed into the ground creating a strong sandy wind that sucked up the Razor Leaves. "What? No way!" Anaya shouted completely stunned "Well, I've gotta admit, you're really giving me a tough time. But you're still not strong enough to beat me. Rhyhorn, it's time to finish this! Use Earthquake!" Brock shouted
Rhyhorn then jumped into the air and came back down with such a huge force it created a shockwave throughout the entire battlefield "Holy crap! I can feel it all the way up here!" Ash shouted as he and Misty held onto the railing for dear life "Pi-i-i-i-ka" Pikachu said stuttering a little as the shockwave shook the little rodent's entire body. Then the battlefield started to shift and break apart making a huge dust cloud covering the entire field along with the Pokemon. "It's over." Brock said as once the shockwave subsided and the dust cloud cleared a little revealing Anaya who was not smiling had her head down so her bangs covered her eyes. "Is it really over?" Misty questioned who was still hanging on the railing.
But then, just before the dust cloud completely dissipated, Brock watched as Anaya's frown turned into a smile. She then lifted her head revealing her eyes which were full of confidence and determination "Huh?" He questioned when he spotted something in the dust, and as soon as the dust cleared it realized it was Bellsprout standing tall and completely unscathed shocking everyone "What? How…?" Brock questioned loudly when he suddenly looked down at the ground and gasped when he saw that Bellsprout had rooted itself to the ground.
"It's a good thing that Bellsprout can root itself to the ground or otherwise it really would've been game over for us." Anaya said as Bellsprout unrooted itself, "Well, I won't deny it, you're making this really hard for me. Not that I didn't know it would be difficult, I just never expected that you would figure out all my little quirks. But even so, it's time to wrap this up." Anaya said as Brock grunted "Rhyhorn use Take Down!" Brock shouted "Rhy!" Rhyhorn said as it took off "Bellsprout, use Vine Whip to dodge!" Anaya bellowed out "Bell!" Bellsprout yelled as two green vines came from out from in between its leaves, grabbing onto one of the iron beams missing Rhyhorn by inches "What!?" Brock yelled in confusion
"That was so cool!" Misty exclaimed as Bellsprout released itself from the iron beam "Ok, spin and use Clear Smog!" Anaya called out confusing everyone in the room, minus Ash. "Bell!" Bellsprout cried out as it spun in the air and released a white fog from its mouth that cover the entire room. "Why use…. Clear Smog? …. It's a…poison type move." Misty said as she coughed along with the others, Brock grunted as he to cover his mouth trying to keep the Smog from getting into his lungs. "I can't see a thing!" He shouted in frustration when it suddenly dawned on him "Wait, I can't see!" He said "Bellsprout, use Energy Ball!" Anaya shouted
"Bell! Sprout!" Bellsprout yelled as it fired three orbs of light green energy at Rhyhorn, once it hit its intended target it created a huge wave of energy that it that cleared the field in a split second. Rhyhorn skidded across the field as Bellsprout land safely and smoothly "Rhyhorn, no!" Brock shouted, "Keep going, use Magical Leaf!" Anaya yelled "Bell! Bellsprout!" Bellsprout shouted as its leaves began to glow a light green, it then drew a ring of green energy which it then turned into an orb. Bellsprout then fired multiple glowing light green leaves from the orb. Not really sure what to do, Brock just stood there as he watched the Magical Leaf hit its target.
The force was so great that it knocked Rhyhorn off its feet, "Rhyhorn, don't give up." Brock shouted trying to encourage the Rock Pokemon as it hit the ground. Even though Rhyhorn didn't fly up extremely high, it still landed pretty hard and added to the fact that it took a direct hit from the Magical Leaf made the impact a whole lot worse "Rhyhorn!" Brock shouted but then noticed Rhyhorn cringing in pain "No, Rhyhorn, please get up!" Brock shouted as Rhyhorn slowly opened its eyes "Ok, now's the time to end this. Bellsprout, use Solar Beam!" Anaya shouted shocking everyone, all but Ash. "Rhyhorn, you gotta get up!" Brock shouted now sounding desperate
"Bellsprout, do it now!" Anaya shouted as Rhyhorn began to get up very slowly "Bell!" Bellsprout shouted as it fired a very light-yellow colored beam "Rhy?" Rhyhorn said as the Solar Beam made contact which exploded as it hit Rhyhorn "Oh no, Rhyhorn!" Brock shouted as the dust cleared away revealing Rhyhorn on the ground knocked out. Brock groaned in defeat, he then looked over at his brother who was shocked and confused, not really sure what just happened or what he was supposed to do. "Forrest." Brock said getting his brother's attention. He looked over at his older brother who didn't say a word but just nodded his head.
Apparently, Forrest understood what he meant. He regained his composure then raised his left hand "Rhyhorn is unable to battle, Bellsprout wins." Forrest shouted "Alright, Bellsprout!" Anaya shouted with glee "Bellsprout." Bellsprout said as it came up to Anaya who was holding out her hand and high fived her "Pichu." Chuot Dien said as it held out its paw "Bellsprout." Bellsprout said high fiving Chuot Dien as well while Brock had Rhyhorn return to its pokeball "You did well Rhyhorn, now get a good rest." Brock said placing it pokeball back on his belt. He then looked at Anaya who was rubbing Bellsprout's head in affection.
"I'm actually impressed. She obviously knew that poison type moves wouldn't be effective, so instead she used grass type moves for offense and still used the poison type moves as a defense. The way she was able to figure that out proves that she's very clever. It's clear that she cares for her Pokemon a great amount and her Pokemon care for her the same way. She and her Pokemon trust each other 100%, with that level of trust and add her intelligence to that makes her an exceptionally powerful trainer. I'm gonna have to find a different way of defeating her." Brock said to himself
Brock then cleared his throat getting her attention "I admit my defeat and I gotta say you're pretty strong. But this match isn't over yet. So, are you able to handle my next Pokemon?" Brock asked as Anaya smirked then stood up "Bring it on." She said "Trainers, release your next Pokemon." Forrest Shouted, "Here's mine!" Brock yelled as he threw another Pokeball releasing a turtle-like bipedal Pokemon with plated green rocks as its shell. Anaya took out her Pokedex once again and aimed it at the Pokemon "Golem, the Megaton Pokemon. Golem grows bigger by shedding its skin once a year, which hardens when exposed to the air, then it crumbles away returning to the soil." The Pokedex said "So a rock-like shell. Well then, Bellsprout return." Anaya calling the plant Pokemon back "You were awesome, now get a good rest." Anaya then places Bellsprout's Pokeball back into her back then grabbed another.
"Alright Seel, center stage." Anaya shouted as she threw the Pokeball releasing it "Seel." It said as it landed on the ground looking ready to battle "I see, so you've saved your best for last." Brock said "Of course." Anaya said with a wink "Well, just because we are at a disadvantage doesn't mean we'll quit." Brock said "Alright, battle begin!" Forrest Shouted "Alright, Seel use Bubble Beam!" Anaya commanded which Seel was incredibly happy to comply "Seel!" It shouted as it fired multiple light blue bubbles from its mouth, "Golem, use Rock Throw!" Brock shouted "Golem!" Golem shouted as multi-colored waves formed around it's body that formed into white orbs which then turned into white glowing rocks, Golem then fired the rocks at Seel which in turn blocked the Bubble Beam. "Seel! Use Protect!" Anaya quickly shouted
"Seel." Seel said as a similar colored force field that Bellsprout used in the previous battle, formed around Seel protecting itself, "It can use Protect too?" Misty questioned quiet surprised "Ok now use Iron Tail!" Anaya shouted "Seel." It said as it jumped, its tail started to glow very brightly and if you looked closely enough you could see that the glow almost looked metallic "I didn't know water types could use steel type moves!" Misty exclaimed "I didn't know there was such a thing as a Steel type Pokemon." Ash said which caused Misty to fall as the Iron Tail hit its intended target "Golem, are you ok?" Brock asked as the rock Pokemon slid backwards "Gol-em!" It shouted as it stood tall and proud.
"Good, now, use Rock Blast." Brock shouted "Golem!" Golem shouted as well as three rocks formed above its head as the glowed a bright orange while its forehead had a silver glow. It then fired multiple silver rocks from its forehead at Seel. "Quick, dodge them Seel!" Anaya shouted "Seel." It said as it jumped and dodge the Rock Blast, unfortunately, it was hit by one of the rocks causing the Sea Lion Pokemon to lose its balance and fall "No, Seel!" Anaya shouted "Seel." It said in pain "Please Seel, you've gotta get up. Hurry, we don't have much time." Anaya pleaded as Seel got up very slowly "Seel." Seel said regaining its composure
"Yes! Now quick, use Water Gun!" Anaya shouted and just as she commanded, a powerful stream of water came flowing out of Seel's mouth "Golem, use Defense Curl!" Brock shouted "Gol." Golem said as it pulled its arms, legs, and head into its shell; making itself into a ball as the jet of water hit its target but with no effect "Dang it." Anaya said now completely lost on what to do "Golem, use Rollout!" Brock shouted, still curled up in a ball, Golem began to roll with incredible speed moving towards its target. Anaya groans in frustration, "Seel! Use Ice Shard!" Anaya shouted
"Seel." It said as a light blue ball of ice formed above its mouth, then launched it at Golem using its tail. Unfortunately, the ice only shattered into little pieces as it made contact without doing any damage. Golem continued rolling then smashed into Seel knocking it back "Seel!" Anaya shouted in concerned watching the water Pokemon twitch in pain "That Ice Shard didn't even slow it down." Ash said, "Yeah well, that's because not a lot of moves can stop a rollout attack." Misty explained "But, Anaya should've known that." Ash said confused "She's feeling the pressure, and when that happens people start to become desperate and stop thinking logically." Misty said with a serious look on her face "Well, as I said before, you are really making this hard for me. To be honest, you're probably one of the toughest challengers I've ever had, and you definitely have the potential to be a Pokemon Master, heck you might even qualify to be one of the Counsel of Region's Grand Masters." Brock said
"SAY WHAT!" Ash exclaimed loudly "But, you're not quite there yet. Ok Golem, it's time to finish this. Use Rock Tomb!" Brock shouted "Go-Lem!" Golem shouted as its body glowed with a white energy. While it rose its head, multiple gray rocks with the same white energy, formed above its head in the shape of a ring. Soon, Golem stopped glowing causing the rocks to fall down around Seel blocking it in. A large boulder then came falling down aiming directly at Seel. "Oh no, Seel! Please Get Up!" Anaya shouted in fear "If that boulder lands, this match will be over!" Misty exclaimed "What? Seriously!?" Ash questioned in shock as the boulder landed with a loud crash "Seel, Please No!" Anaya screamed as the dust cleared revealing a giant circle of rocks with one larger rock in the middle.
"No." Anaya said frozen in disbelief, "Is it over?" Ash asked as everyone stood still in total silence "Um, Brock?" Forrest asked but Brock held his index finger up telling him to wait "No, please Seel, please be ok at least." Anaya said in a low voice "Ok Forrest." Brock said "Uh; wait Brock look!" Forrest shouted pointing to the pile of rocks, Brock looks over and sees that the rocks have started to crack. "What's happening?" Ash asked as the pile of rocks began to crumble, revealing to everyone a silver force field "What?!" Brock cried out in bewilder "Is that protect?" Misty questioned "It looks different." Ash said "Wait, this is Safeguard." Anaya said when suddenly the Safeguard disappears and was replaced by a blinding light.
As soon as her eyes adjusted to the light, Anaya looked towards where the light was coming from and realized that Seel was giving off the blinding light "Why is Seel glowing?" Ash asked trying shield is eyes from the light "Because it's reached a certain level, just like with Butterfree." Misty said also covering her eyes "Huh? Wait, is it doing what I think it's doing?!" Ash exclaimed "It sure is." Misty said as Anaya laughed "Seel's evolving!" Anaya shouted with a huge smile on her face as Seel began to grow larger "Pichu!" Chuot Dien Shouted as it did a little happy dance "Pika, Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted happily as Seel's tail grew longer.
Not a moment later, the light died down which exposed a snowy white pinniped Pokemon; it had two black eyes, a black nose, two tusks that extended from its upper jaw, a streamlined body that had two front flippers and a long flowing tail. "Dew! Gong!" It shouted "Alright, it's Dewgong!" Anaya shouted with glee "It's adorable!" Misty yelled with giddy and heart shaped eyes "If there was a word for your obsession, I'd call you that." Ash said with a sweat drop as Anaya pulled out her Pokedex "Dewgong, the Sea Lion Pokemon, and the evolved form of Seel. It's long flowing tail allows it to swim up to speeds of 8 knots. The horn on top of its head is so sharp that it can cut through the thickest of ice floats." The Pokedex said
"Awesome; you've learned some new moves Dewgong!" Anaya yelled in excitement "Dew." Dewgong said nodding its head "Evolving means nothing, it takes a lot more than that to make us surrender." Brock said "Well, that's good news for us. Cause now we can try out those new moves of ours. Dewgong, let's try one out, use Icicle Spear!" Anaya shouted "Dew! Gong!" Dewgong shouted as it fired thin, spear-shaped ice shards from its mouth landing a direct hit "Golem!" Golem shouted in pain "Hang in there Golem." Brock said encouraging the Megaton Pokemon "Golem." It said as it stood up straight, but you could tell that it was very painful to stand
"Yeah, that definitely did some damage." Anaya said as she noticed how worn out Golem looked "Even so, Golem won't back down until its been defeated. So, with that in mind. Golem, use Sandstorm!" Brock shouted "Go! Lem!" Golem shouted as it raised its arms in the air creating a twister of sand that spread throughout the entire battlefield, blinding Dewgong. "Dewgong, Dewgong!" Dewgong cried out in annoyance and frustration "Dewgong…. please, calm down, ok." Anaya said trying to get the water Pokemon to relax "Golem, use Heavy Slam!" Brock shouted "Go…. Lem!" Golem shouted as it jumped into the air while a sliver aura surrounded its body then prepared to slam into Dewgong "Use Safeguard!" Anaya shouted "Dew." It said as its body glowed white and formed the same sliver force field around its body.
Golem ended up slamming into the force field hard and was knocked back "Golem, keep going, use Take Down!" Brock shouted "Golem." It shouted as it took off running at high speed. "Alright Dewgong, on my signal." Anaya said "Dewgong." Dewgong said nodding its head "Wait." Anaya said as Golem kept charging at them "Wait." Anaya continued as the Megaton Pokemon kept getting closer "Wait!" She said "What is she waiting for? If she doesn't attack now Golem will land the attack." Ash said confused as Golem was directly in front of them "Now! Use Iron Tail at 12 o'clock!" She shouted "Dew." The Sea Lion Pokemon shouted as its tail lit up the same metallic glow as before but much more powerful.
Dewgong swung its tail hitting Golem with so much force that it almost flew upwards "No, Golem!" Brock shouted as Golem winced in pain while it slowly made its way to stand "Quick Dewgong, use Water Gun at the ceiling!" Anaya shouted confusing everyone except Ash once again "Dew! Gong!" Dewgong shouted as it shot another stream of water out of its mouth hitting the ceiling. "Go-Lem, Go-lem." Golem shouted running all over the place as water droplets from the Water Gun landed on the Pokemon which it didn't like one bit. But soon, the Sandstorm disappeared clearing the field completely, which surprised Brock "She was able to clear the Sandstorm." Misty said sounding just as surprised as Brock did while Dewgong opened its eyes.
"Yes! Now you can see again." Anaya said, "How did you figure out how to clear the Sandstorm so quickly?" Brock asked "Easy, that was my plan from the beginning." Anaya said shocking everyone but Ash… again. "You see I do a lot of planning of a lot of different types of moves. I was able to figure out that if you disperse any sort of water type attack the Sandstorm will always dissipate." Anaya explained "What?" Brock questioned loudly "Alright, let's try another new move Dewgong. Use Water Pulse!" Anaya shouted "Dew, gong!" Dewgong shouted as it formed a light blue orb of energy, it then fired it straight at Golem. Once it landed it exploded into a wave of water.
This pushed Golem back even further "Golem no!" Brock shouted "Golem." It said clearly in a lot of pain "No, this can't be happening." Brock said sounding baffled "Ok, time to wrap this match up. Dewgong, use Aqua Jet!" Anaya shouted "Dewgong." It shouted as its body became surrounded by water, Dewgong then shot itself upwards like a rocket and then redirected its aim towards Golem. "Now combine that with Drill Run!" Anaya shouted making everyone gasp "I didn't know you could do that!" Ash exclaimed "For once, I didn't know that either." Misty said as Dewgong began to spin its body extremely fast while still charging towards Golem. "This really could be the end of this." Misty said as Dewgong struck its marked target.
It struck it with such force that Golem was knocked off of its feet and then sent flying backwards into the wall "Golem!" Brock shouted as the rock Pokemon slammed hard into the wall "Go-Lem." Golem said in a knocked-out tone "No." He said in a disheartened tone, he sighed in disappointment as he looked over at his brother who was stiff as a board, clearly awe-struck, it had been a while since he saw his oldest brother loose a Pokemon battle. "Forrest, make the call." Brock said "Uh, right." Forrest said bringing his attention back as he raised his left hand once again "Golem is unable to battle. Dewgong wins, which means the match goes to Anaya!" Forrest shouted "Yes! We did it!" Anaya shouted as she jumped for joy
"Pichu!" Chuot Dien shouted jumping as well "Dewgong, we did it." Anaya said as she ran over to Dewgong hugging it suddenly Dewgong hopped onto Anaya and because of its weight, Anaya fell backwards onto the ground, though Anaya didn't seem to mind, as she laughed with happiness. "That was an incredible battle." Misty said as she and Ash walked down from the balcony "Yeah, whatever." Ash snipped as he went a head of Misty angrily mumbling to himself "Oh boy." Misty said annoyed "Pika-pi." Pikachu said also sounding annoyed Brock held out a pokeball, calling Golem back "You were great Golem, I'm proud of you and Rhyhorn for fighting so well. The both of you deserve a nice long rest." Brock said
He then placed its Pokeball back on his belt then walked up to Anaya "I gotta tell ya, I'm really impressed by how well you've trained your Pokemon." Brock said as Dewgong got off of her "Thank you Brock." She said as Brock helped her up to her feet. "It's not everyday someone from Kanto gets to see a Pokemon that has its origins from a different region, especially one that is unique as your Pichu." Brock said as he knelt down and began to give Chuot Dien some attention "Chu." It squealed in pleasure "Even though its weak against rock and ground types it's obvious that's it's been raised well." Brock said as he continued to give Chuot Dien attention "I appreciate your comment Brock." Anaya said as Brock stopped petting Chuot Dien
"You and your Pokemon have a deep bond going and with your clever strategies and quick thinking make you really strong, you keep this up and you'll be hard to beat." Brock said as Forrest walked up to them with a tray. Brock grabs a silver octagon pin from it and holds it up to Anaya "This is proof that you've defeated the Pewter City Gym Leader in a battle, congratulations, you've earned it." Brock said "Yeah, you must be a strong trainer to defeat my brother, I can't remember the last time that happened." Forrest said as Brock handed her the badge "Thank you both, so much." Anaya said taking the badge
"Yes, we just got the Boulder Badge." Anaya said "Pichu, Pichu." Chuot Dien shouted, Anaya then grabs a case from her backpack and places the badge inside it. "Thank you for such a great battle Brock." Anaya said as she closed then case and placed it back inside her backpack then bowed to Brock. "I should be thanking you; I haven't had a challenge like that in a while." Brock said extending out his hand "No prob, it was a lot of fun." Anaya said shaking hands with him, completely stunning Ash "I wish you the best of luck in your future gym battles Anaya." Brock said "Thanks, I hope we will be able to meet again someday." Anaya said
"And if we do, I hope you'll consider a rematch." Brock said making Anaya chuckle "You can challenge me any time, but until then I look forward to it. See ya!" Anaya said as she began to leave "Pi-chu!" Chuot Dien said waving goodbye then hopped onto Anaya's shoulder, Anaya walked up to Ash who had a grimace look on his face "Take that Oirugeji." She said making Ash growl at her as she left the gym "Hey, Anaya wait up." Misty shouted as she ran to catch her "Can I help you with something?" Brock asked looking at Ash "Yeah, I'm Ash from Pallet Town, and I challenge you to a gym battle as well." Ash said "Oh, two challengers in one day. Is this your first gym match as well?" Brock asked "Yeah, so what?" Ash questioned
"Well, I hope you were paying attention to the battle." Brock said, "Of course I was, I just need to defeat two of your Pokemon and that Boulder Badge will be mine." Ash said as Brock then looked down at Pikachu "So, how long have you had that Pikachu?" Brock asked "Uh, about two weeks, I guess." Ash said "Figured, it's in its cutest stage." Brock said "Kachu." Pikachu said with a smile on its face "It won't win." Brock said finishing his previous sentence "Chu." Pikachu said with a sweat drop and leaning a little "Hey, why don't you worry about your Pokemon and I'll worry about mine." Ash said snapping at him a little
"Suit yourself, as gym leader, I have to accept every challenge. So, let's just get this over with, Forrest take your mark again." Brock said, Forrest nodded and walked back to the side of the battlefield while Brock and Ash took their places "You ready?" Brock asked "Yeah, let's go." Ash said as he took his backpack off "Alright, you may start Forrest." Brock said "Ok, the match between Gym Leader Brock and… uh… sorry, what was your name again?" Forrest asked looking a little embarrassed "It's Ash, Ash Ketchum." Ash told the small boy, "You gotta work on remembering names Forrest." Brock said making Forrest laugh awkwardly.
"Sorry bro, anyway. The match between Gym Leader Brock and Ash Ketchum, the challenger, will now commence. Each trainer will have the use of two Pokemon each and the battle will be over when both Pokemon from either side is unable to continue, furthermore, only the challenger may substitute Pokemon. Trainers release your Pokemon!" Forrest shouted "Ok, Pikachu, I choose you!" Ash shouted "Pikachu." Pikachu said as it got onto the battlefield "Onix, go!" Brock shouted as he threw a pokeball releasing the rock snake Pokemon. When Pikachu realized how big Onix was, the electric mouse retreated back to Ash, climbed up his leg, and tried to release another Pokemon of Ash's.
"Hey, this is your battle Pikachu, not Pideotto's. Go on, get going." Ash said sitting Pikachu back onto the field "Pika, Pika?" Pikachu questioned as it turned to look at Ash, who nodded. Pikachu then walked towards Onix "Onix, use Tackle!" Brock shouted as Onix flung itself at Pikachu just missing it by mere seconds; but just before Pikachu could get away, Onix grabbed it with its tail "Onix, bind it now." Brock said Pikachu grunted as Onix tightened its grip against Pikachu. Ash growled in frustration "Pikachu, give it a taste of one of your Thunder Shocks!" Ash shouted "Pika, Chu!" Pikachu shouted using one of its attacks, however; Onix wasn't effected one bit "What?!" Ash shouted in confusion "Seems Pikachu hasn't been raised very well. Those weak electrical attacks wouldn't even hurt a tiny Weedle." Brock said as Ash grunted this time, in fear.
"I know you hate this, but I have no choice." Ash said as he grabbed Pikachu's Pokeball from his belt "Pikachu, return now!" Ash shouted holding out the electric type's Pokeball while he tried calling it back but was unfortunately was blocked off by Onix "No, Onix is blocking it. Which means I can't bring Pikachu back." Ash said sullenly as he watched Pikachu struggle clearly in pain "Stop this now, please, don't hurt Pikachu!" Ash shouted in extreme concern "Then, do you surrender?" Brock asked, Ash grunted as he fell onto his hands and knees "Yes." He said as he clenched his fists, Brock and his brother looked at each other for a minute then Brock nodded to him "Ok, Pikachu is unable to battle and the challenger forfeited, which means the gym leader Brock is the winner." Forrest shouted as Onix released its grip on Pikachu "No, Pikachu!" Ash shouted running up to the knocked out Pokemon "I gotta say, that was one of the weirdest battles I've seen." Forrest said to himself with a sweat drop
As Ash carried an injured and unconscious Pikachu in his arms, he slowly walked towards the Pokemon Center feeling guilty that he made Pikachu battle. But then, he noticed someone standing in front of him "Huh?" He questioned as he looked up and saw that it was Flint who said nothing for a few seconds until finally "Come with me." He said turning around and walked away. Ash stood there for a second then ran after him. Flint led Ash to his cabin that was not far from the Pewter City Gym; there Flint laid Pikachu on a makeshift bed, "Everyone loses sometimes. You can't let that get you down." Flint said trying to cheer Ash up as he carried out a tray that contained a teapot and two green cups.
"Yeah, well, Anaya didn't lose, as a matter of fact she won, and got the Boulder badge before me." Ash said as Flint gave him one of the cups "Well, that may be true. But, even so, even if she's never lost before doesn't mean she'll always win, and I can grantee you that she knows that quite well." Flint said as he sat down beside Ash "Yeah, but I didn't just lose, I completely sucked at it. Brock's just too good which means, I can't ever enter the Indigo League if I can't beat him." Ash said sounding depressed "Well, I don't know about that, but I do know that you're right about Brock. He's exceptionally good, his talents can take him a lot farther than being a small-town gym leader." Flint said as he took a sip from the cup.
"Then why hasn't he competed in a Regional League yet?" Ash asked not paying attention to Flint as he took a sip but then cringed as soon as he tasted it "Huh? Tea too hot?" Flint asked noticing him "Uh, yeah, a little." Ash said as he sat the cup down "I keep forgetting that I don't like any of the Kanto region's tea." Ash said "Anyway, to answer your previous question, Brock has his reasons for staying." Flint said as he too sat his cup down "Huh? What does that mean?" Ash asked now turning his full attention to Flint "Come with me and I'll show you what I mean." Flint said as he got up "Huh? Wait, what?" Ash questioned in confusion "Pika." Pikachu said lightly as it shifted in its sleep.
Ash followed Flint towards a house where several children were sitting around the table. Some were playing with each other and some were reading. Suddenly, a young girl with pigtails came running in tears while shouting to an older boy who had his back towards them "I tore my skirt!" The young man turned around which revealed to be Brock "Alright, alright, I'll sew it up for ya." He said in a nurturing tone. Ash was shocked to say the least, he turned to look at Flint but when he said nothing, Ash stayed silent and turned his attention back to Brock who was now kneeling down as he had a sewing kit sitting near him while he sewed a pretty skirt.
"Are you almost done big brother?" The little pigtail girl asked, "In a minute, you just need to be patient." He tell her calmly, Ash watched with a glim in his eyes. Soon he feels Flint tap his shoulder, Ash turned to look at him who motioned him to follow. They walked away from Brock's house in silent, but as soon as they were a far enough distance, Ash decided to speak up "Wow. I sure never thought of Brock like that." He said with a sad voice "Brock has 9 little brothers and sisters to take care of, that's why he can never leave town or compete in any regional leagues." Flint said
"But doesn't he have a Mom or a… a Dad?" Ash asked lowering his volume towards the end of his sentence "His good-for-nothing father left the family to become a Pokemon trainer, and they never heard from him again. Brock's heartbroken mother did her best to hold things together, but unfortunately, she passed away a couple of years ago, Brock was only 13 at the time." Flint said, this struck a chord in Ash's heart as he thought about his own father and how similar it sounded "I'd better not listen to any more of this type of stuff, or I may not have the heart to beat Brock the next time we have a battle." Ash said
"Hold on, I thought you said you could never win a match against Brock." Flint said stopping in his tracks "Yeah so, I know I can win, just not at this stage. I know I can beat him if Pikachu was more powerful, if only there was a way to do that." Ash said surprisingly with an intensely serious tone, which is rare for him. "Hmm." Flint said thinking to himself "Wait, I may just know a way you can supercharge Pikachu." Flint said "Really? You do?" Ash said now sounding more like his hypergentic self.
"Whoa! What is this place?" Ash asked in awe with Pikachu in his arms as he stood at the entrance to what looked like a water mill with Flint right next to him "It's an old hydroelectric plant, the river turns the wheel and makes electricity." Flint said explaining to Ash "Oh, so it's like a Dam and Windmills." Ash said, "Pretty much though windmills are powered by wind." Flint said "Obviously." Ash said, "If we hook Pikachu up to it, you might be able to give it a power boost." Flint explained "Wow, thanks Mr. Flint, that's a really great idea. So, how do you know so much about Pokemon?" Ash asked him.
"Me? Uh, you see, I, uh…" Flint started looking extremely uncomfortable "Well, I just got lucky, I guess. That's it lucky." Flint said "Well, Pikachu, get ready for a power up." Ash said not really paying attention to Flint's behavior "Pikachu." Pikachu said looking determined "Of course, right now the river is dried up." Flint told him which caused Ash to yell out in disappointment "Then what was the whole point in coming here if there's no way to turn the wheel and get the plant working again?" Ash asked angrily "I never said that." Flint said, "Say what now?" Ash questioned him "The river may be dry, but I have another idea in mind." Flint explained to him
Once inside Flint taped some wires to Pikachu's cheeks "Pikachu's all hooked up now." Flint said to Ash through an opened window, apparently, Flint's idea was to have Ash stand on the wheel and power it manually, though Ash didn't seem to mind it. "Ok, here we go." Ash said as he started to move the wheel with his feet "Alright, it's working." Ash said as the meter began to fill up "Pi?" Pikachu said with confusion but as soon as it started to feel the immense voltage, it began to squeal in pain "Take it easy Pikachu, all this power may hurt at first, but you'll get used to it the high voltage soon." Flint said trying to get the mouse Pokemon to relax. Not sure if Ash could hear Pikachu, but even if he did, he still kept powering the plant.
"If I can take this, you can take it Pikachu." Ash said, "Oh yeah, you're really working a sweat up there buddy." A voice said, Ash turned around to see Anaya along with Misty who was beside her, Ash grunted and turned his head back around "I didn't ask for a comment Anaya." Ash snapped at her as he continued to power the mill by foot "Well, even so, don't you think it would be a lot easier to ask me or Anaya for help instead of going with this crazy power plan of your?" Misty asked him Ash scoffed at her "Forget it. I'm going to win that badge without either of your help." Ash said "Huh?" Misty said a little confused at first but then grunted in irritation "What do I care?" She said while walking away.
Anaya sighed clearly irritated as well "Men are such babies." She whispered while walking away as well "I'm gonna get a badge using the Pokemon I'm training and not anybody else's." Ash said as Misty stopped then sighed, she then continued to walk away along with Anaya who was right behind her. Once she was far enough away from the mill, she groaned "Men are so stubborn. It'd be a lot easier if he just used some of my Pokemon." Misty said to Anaya who walked up to her "What'd ya expect? He's a guy, and guys wanna prove that they're tough." Anaya said as they continued to walk away from the water mill "Although, I can see where he's coming from." Anaya said now that Ash was out of earshot. "Huh?" Misty questioned a little bit surprised
"While it's true that using one of your water Pokemon would gain him the victory and get that badge but that would mean that he didn't work for it. Honestly, in my book, I'd consider that cheating." Anaya said, "I guess that makes sense." Misty said, they were silent for a few seconds when Anaya said "You know, if Ash were to actually follow the rules. I think he really could be a good trainer." Misty exclaimed in surprised when suddenly, a huge explosion was heard coming from the Power plant. Misty and Anaya gasped and ran back towards the Power plant, there, they found the water mill completely destroyed "That was some incredible power! Hey, you ok there Ash?" Flint asked, "Yeah never felt better." Ash said a little bit dazed "Unfortunately, that oversized ego of his clogs his brain too much." Anaya said as Misty groaned in annoyance "Pikachu." Pikachu said looking a little embarrassed.
The next day, Ash went straight to the Pewter City gym. He pushed opened the doors with great force and shouted, "I'm back!" Brock walked up to him with his brother Forrest and said, "Haven't you learn your lesson yet? If you failed once before, you'll never succeed." Ash grunted but his eyes told a completely different story, a story of determination and perseverance "Success is not final, and failure is not fatal. It is the courage and will to continue that counts." Ash said with the same serious tone he used during his talk with Flint, Brock was definitely taken by surprised, he was stunned speechless "Believe me, we're ready for you this time Brock." Ash said Brock just chuckled now that the initial shock was worn off "We'll see." He said as he and Ash walked over to the battlefield "Same rules as last time, we use two Pokemon each." Brock said "Understood." Ash said as Misty and Anaya walked into the gym and made their way up to the balcony.
"Forrest, you may begin." Brock said "Right, the rematch between Ash, the challenger, and Brock the Gym Leader, will now began. Trainers choose your Pokemon." Forrest said, "I'll start out with this Pokemon; Geodude go!" Brock shouted throwing a Pokeball onto the battlefield releasing a gray boulder-like Pokemon with two muscular arms "Huh? Who's that Pokemon?" Anaya questioned as Ash pulled out his Pokedex "Geodude, The Rock Pokemon, Geodude is a proud and sturdy Pokemon, it can use its arms to climb up steep mountains paths and will bash against other Geodudes to prove whose body is harder." The Pokedex said Ash hummed then put his Pokedex back into his jacket, he then turned his hat around and grabbed a Pokeball from his belt "Pidgeotto, I choose you!" Ash shouted releasing the flying type Pokemon.
Misty and Anaya just groaned "Alright, battle begin!" Forrest shouted commencing the battle "Pidgeotto, use Gust!" Ash shouted as Pidgeotto began to flap its wings sending a huge wave of wind towards Geodude but due to its sturdy build, it was hardly fazed by it "What the…?!" Ash shouted confused and shocked "That was a bad move. Flying type moves are weak against Rock type Pokemon." Brock explained "Oh yeah, I forgot about that." Ash said with a sweat drop "Come on Ash, use that brain of your's." Misty said, "He doesn't have one, remember Misty." Anaya said as the rest of Brock's siblings appeared on the balcony.
"Mother Of Sweet Arceus! How Did You Kids Get Up Here So Fast?!" Anaya yelled out in astoundment as Pidgeotto was knocked out, Ash grunted then grabbed Pidgeotto's Pokeball "Pidgeotto, return!" He shouted calling it back "Giving up again already Ash?" Brock asked him "Not on your life. Pikachu, I choose you!" Ash yelled out "Chu." Pikachu said nodding then walked on the battlefield "Really, Pikachu again. I feel sorry for it being raised by such a weak trainer." Brock said as Ash had his head down just enough for his hat to cover his eyes "Oh boy, I think that provoked him." Anaya said, Ash kept his head down for a few seconds before looking up with this most intense stare. It was so intense that it made Brock flinched.
"Whoa, I don't think I've ever seen Ash this fierce before." Anaya said as a shiver ran down her spine "I know right, I wonder what's gotten into him all of the sudden." Misty said "Well, Brock probably pushed a pretty sensitive button. He called Ash weak and that may have triggered something in him." Anaya explained to her "You mean like something dormant?" Misty asked "Possibly, but I'm not sure. If I knew more about Ash maybe I could figure this out more." Anaya said "Pikachu, now's our chance to show him how truly weak we are." Ash said "Kachu!" Pikachu shouted releasing a burst if electricity towards Geodude and burning it in the process, knocking it out "Wow, nice going Pikachu." Misty said
Brock was so stunned that it took a few minutes to gather his thoughts "Return Geodude." Brock said retrieving the Pokemon "You definitely earned a nice long rest." Brock said, then placed Geodude back onto his belt "Well, it seems you trained that Pikachu better than I thought, but you're still no match for Onix." Brock said throwing a Pokeball onto the battlefield. When Onix appeared, Pikachu became so frighten and startled that it began to release a bunch of thunder shocks. One hit Onix, some others hit the ceiling lamps "AH, Pikachu! Calm Down, You're Gonna Hit Someone!" Ash shouted stopping Pikachu who was then suddenly wrapped up by Onix "Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" Ash shouted
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted mustering up the strongest thunder shock it could, Onix roared in pain but still held onto Pikachu tightly. "Keep it up, it's working!" Ash shouted, "Don't give in Onix!" Brock shouted, Pikachu tried as hard as it could to keep the thunder shock going, but the lack of oxygen was starting to take a toll on the little mouse Pokemon "Oh no! Pikachu!" Ash shouted in extreme concern, however, there was nothing he could do but watch. "Onix, please stop." Brock said, Onix then released an unconscious Pikachu and slithered back to Brock "Hey, wait just a minute, this match isn't over!" Ash shouted
"There's no point continuing, I don't want to hurt your Pikachu." Brock said as Ash growled in anger but then sighed knowing he was right. However, none of them realized that they lamps Pikachu hit with its thunder shock were on fire and continued to burn. Soon the smoke from the fire activated the sprinkler system which ended up Onix getting drenched in water, the rock Pokemon roared in pain as Pikachu regained its consciousness and looked up at Onix, Ash noticed Onix's strange behavior and was thoroughly confused "Ash!" Misty shouted getting Ash's attention "Quick you air head, rock types are weak against water." Misty said to him, Ash gasped "Pikachu, use Thunder Shock!" Ash shouted
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted releasing a huge amount of electricity zapping Onix big time and the Rock Snake Pokemon fell down with a thud. "Let's wrap this up, Pikachu use Thunder…" Ash started to say but then he felt something grabbed him, he looked behind him and saw that one of Brock's brothers had grabbed his arm. Before he knew it, all of Brock's brothers and sisters started to latch onto him "What the… what are you guys doing?" He asked "Wow, are those kids related to the Bolt?" Anaya questioned "Pichu." Chuot Dien said sounding amazed "You leave Onix alone!" One of Brock's brothers said "Yeah, our brother worked hard to raise him, you big bully." Another one of Brock's brothers said
"Believe me kid, I'm no bully." Ash said, "Stop this right now." Brock said "Salvadore, you should know better. Timmy I can understand but you…" Forrest started to say but was cut off "Forrest, stop, I'll handle this." Brock told him "Uh, ok." Forrest said "Alright, all of you, get off of him now. This is an official match, and we're gonna finish it no matter what." Brock said scolding his siblings "But Brock, we know how much you love Onix and all of your Pokemon a lot." One of Brock's sisters said this time "Yeah, that's why we can't watch suffer from another attack, just like you did with Pikachu." Said another one of Brock's brothers, Ash gasped as he realized what the kid was talking about. He remembered earlier in the battle Brock had told Onix to release Pikachu. He thought about it for a minute then shouted "Pikachu, return now." Pikachu looked back at Ash confused but it did as it was told.
"Hey! What's the big idea? This match isn't over!" Brock shouted as Ash put one of his brothers down "Setting off the sprinklers wasn't part of my plan and because of that, it would feel like cheating and that wouldn't prove a thing." Ash said shocking Anaya "But the next time we meet, I'll be a whole lot stronger and I'll battle you the way I battle, fair and square." Ash said pointing to Brock then turned and walked away "Maybe, just maybe." Brock said to himself, Misty sighed "Seriously, just when he's about to win he decides to be nice." She said as Anaya continued to stare at nothing "I can't believe he did that." She said "Pichu?" Chuot Dien said a little confused as it was looking at its best friend and partner.
Ash was walking on the road with Pikachu tailing behind him as the sun was starting to set. "Sorry if I was too hard on you Pikachu. But I'm really proud of you and Pidgeotto for battling so hard." Ash said "Pika-chu." Pikachu said with a melancholy tone "Guess you're feeling the same way I am." Ash said looking down at the rodent "Ash! Hey Ash! Wait Up!" A voice shouted from behind them, both Pikachu and Ash turned around and saw Brock running up to them "Brock?" Ash questioned as Brock stopped in front of them to catch his breath "Ash, you forgot this." Brock said holding out a badge "Wait, that's the boulder badge. I can't take this; I didn't beat you." Ash said "No, it's the other way around. I lost to you, in battle and being kind to all Pokemon." Brock said "But…." Ash started to say
"To be honest, I actually enjoy raising Pokemon more than battling with them. I don't want to become a Pokemon trainer or Pokemon Master, I wanna become the best breeder the world over. But unfortunately, taking care of my brothers and sisters has kept me from doing that. Ash, will you take this badge and fulfill my dreams by fulfilling yours?" Please." Brock said Ash was a little shocked at first but soon a grin came onto his face "I will." Ash said while nodding "And I'll do my best to deserve this too." Ash continued while walking up to Brock and taking the badge from Brock's hand "Brock, you should go follow your own dreams." A voice said, Brock and Ash turned to look and saw Flint standing a few feet in front of them.
"Flint?" Ash questioned when suddenly, Flint took off his beard which was revealed to be fake (obviously) and his red hat. "That's actually my father." Brock said with a bitter voice "Wait what?! So, you're the 'good for nothing father' that left home and never came back?!" Ash exclaimed loudly a little shocked "Yes, that was me. I couldn't become the great Pokemon trainer I wanted to, I was such a failure I was too embarrassed and ashamed to return to my family." Flint said explaining himself "Hold on, then why the heck did you help me instead of Brock?!" Ash yelled fuming a tiny bit surprising Brock a little "You reminded me of myself. You didn't seem to have a chance." Flint said walking closer to the two boys.
"Gee, thanks." Ash said with a sweat drop "It's time for me to stop slacking off and start taking care of my family. You go fulfill your dreams and mine." Flint said "First, there are somethings I wanna say." Brock said with a very stern voice and expression "After everything that's happened, I wouldn't be surprised how you feel about me, so get everything off your chest now." Flint said as Ash just looked at Brock then at Flint with an intense stare, suddenly Brock dug into his vest "Here." Brock said handing his father a needle and some thread. "Ahh." Ash said as he fell down while Brock began to talk to his father really fast "Well, I guess everybody takes these types of situations differently." Ash said as Brock continued to talk really fast "Slow down, I can't write that fast!" Flint shouted sounding overwhelmed.
"Hey, are you sure it's ok I come along with you on your Pokemon journey Ash?" Brock asked later that night with a backpack on his back "Yeah I'm sure. The more the merrier, and it's good to have someone to talk to." Ash said, "But what about…" Brock started to say when Anaya walked past them, Ash growled at her "Why do you keep following me?!" Ash yelled in irritation "The next Pokemon gym is this way; you just happen to be going the same way I am." Anaya said as he place her hands on her hips "Ok, then what about the other girl that keeps following you two?" Brock asked looking back at Misty "I'm gonna keep following you until you replace my bike Ash Ketchum!" Misty yelled making Ash groan.
"I know, I know." Ash said, "Come on Pikachu, let's try to lose her." Ash said as he started running "Chu." Pikachu said running along side him "Hey, wait for me Ash!" Brock shouted running after him "You're not getting away!" Misty shouted following behind Brock as all three passed Anaya who chuckled "Looks like we're running too Awa-chan." Anaya said to her partner "Pichu, pichu." Chuot Dien said as they began tailing behind Misty. Suddenly, a big drill appeared with Team Rock emerging from the hole "See, I told you I'd get us out of the hole." James said, "This was all…." Jessie started to say but was trampled on by Ash while Pikachu stepped on Meowth.
"Come on Ash!" Brock shouted as he stepped on James "Your fault!" Jessie shouted finishing her sentence "Wait for me!" Misty shouted stepping on Jessie "These guys must have agility powers, seriously." Anaya said stepping on James as she followed the trio "Chu-Pichu! Pipi Pichu!" Chuot Dien shouted as it stepped on Meowth "Buried alive, then trampled on like a rug." Jessie said whining "We've hit rock bottom." James said with a gloomy voice, and with that, all three of them slipped then fell back down "LITERALLY!" Meowth shouted as the three fell. So, with a new traveling companion and with Misty and Anaya close behind, Ash continues his journey in the exciting world of Pokemon.
