Chapter 10
A/N: Now that my summer break is ending, my postings will not be nearly as frequent. This story was also planned to be only 8 chapters, clearly, I went past that. This will likely be another few chapters long. Once I finish this story, I will be going on a Descendants hiatus to finish other stories I already started. Now onto the story!
Carlos and Elyse were sitting on Evie's bed as Evie makes adjustments to the light blue vest that Evie made for Hadley. The short-haired girl standing still, hoping to not be poked with needles. "You need to relax. If not, I will prick you," Evie warns as Hadley accidentally shifts, almost poking her side.
"She threatened me! You guys heard, that right?" Hadley jokes, just to get pricked in the arm by a pin. "Ow! That was on purpose!" she pouts.
Evie just gives Hadley an innocent little smile as Elyse and Carlos laugh. "Mal has been acting very weird lately. She's using magic again," Evie says as she motions for Hadley to take off the vest.
"She made a truth gummy for it earlier," Carlos says as he scratches Dude behind the ears.
"It tasted like farts," Dude comments, startling the three girls in the room.
"Mal is probably stressed about everything. All of these new responsibilities, learning politics and how to act. It's overwhelming. I'll talk to her, I've dealt with it," Hadley says as she walks over to Maleficent's cage. Not spotting the small bearded dragon. "Mom is gone."
"How would Maleficent get out?" Evie asks as she walks over to the cage. Seeing the top open and no lizard. "We need to search for Mal, let's split up."
"Evie, search for clues in here. You'll notice if something is out of place," Hadley suggests before running out the door. Elyse and Carlos following behind.
"How can they be so alike yet so… not," Evie comments once the other leave. Noticing how quickly Hadley jumped in to lead the second Mal wasn't there to do so. The blue-haired princess walks around the room. Looking for anything out of place amongst Mal's things. As she opened the purple-haired girl's nightstand, she saw that a note was where Mal's spell book was supposed to be. She gingerly picked up the note and read it. "She went back to the Isle… I have to tell Ben!" Evie exclaims as she runs out of the room, note in hand.
After the argument with Mal, Ben decided that distracting himself was the way to go. When Evie walks into the room looking panicked, he pushes his papers off to the side. "Evie, is something wrong?" he asks, concern shining in his eyes.
"Mal went back to the Isle," Evie says as she holds out Ben's signet ring. Finding it with the letter.
"This is all my fault; I have to go get her!" Ben says quickly getting up from his brown leather backed desk chair. He walks over to Evie and takes his ring from her, turning it over in his hand before putting it in his pocket. Logically, he knew that him going to the Isle could get him killed, but he didn't care. He just wanted Mal home, where she's safe.
"I'm coming with you! And we're bringing the guys and Hadley. You won't last long dressed like that. Hadley probably has some clothes you can use, she shops in the men's section," Evie says as she heads to the door. Texting Carlos, Jay, Hadley, and Elyse. "Mal ran away. We're taking Ben to the Isle with us. Hadley will be brought back in one piece and we need to borrow her clothes."
"Meet us in the lad of the rock lobster!" Hadley sends back right away.
"She means our room. I introduced her to 80s rock music. I'm sorry," Elyse responds as Carlos sends a picture of a lobster holding a guitar.
In Hadley and Elyse's room, Carlos was helping the couple find something for Ben to wear. Elyse was wearing one of Hadley's leather jackets. The ember tucked in an inside pocket to keep Hadley away from the influence. Evie, Ben, and Jay walk in as Hadley throws a blue shirt and blue beanie onto her bed. "Elyse… you can't come. It's too dangerous," Ben says as he sees his friend prepped to go with them.
"I want to see the Isle and Hadley has to drop something off. Buddy system," Elyse says as she throws the shirt and beanie at Ben. "Hadley's jackets won't fit you. They're more… skin tight."
"So we have two different teams? That works. Hadley has more access to parts of the Isle Mal wasn't allowed to enter without a fight. Hell, Hadley may be able to talk some of Uma's crew into helping protect Elyse," Jay points out as he sits down next to Carlos.
"Gil will help. We would pass by the chip shop on the way to my errand. As long as I don't go against Uma, I'll be set," Hadley says with certainty. She had been able to send small packages back to Uma during her time in Auradon. Mostly shells, bottles of clean water, and money. Proving her loyalty still lied with the wharf rats.
"I have a jacket for Ben. We can grab it our way to the limo," Evie says as she leaves the room, the others all following.
"You will need to follow my lead. Are you okay with that?" Hadley whispers to Elyse. The daughter of Hades is fine with bringing her girlfriend to the Isle. She trusted in her ability to protect her. However, the less attention they bring to themselves, the better.
"Strut or slouch, just chill," Elyse says as she sits next to Hadley in the back of the Limo. Jay getting into the front to drive. Reciting two rules Carlos explained to her.
"Don't look anyone in the eyes and only smile if you see someone in pain or you're causing trouble," Hadley adds as she pulls Elyse close. Knowing they can't do this on the Isle.
"The smile at pain thing is what the sadists do," Carlos says. Glancing at Hadley and Jay, the former giving him an innocent grin.
"Well I'm excited to see how the rest of my people live," Ben comments, causing the others in the back to exchange looks. Hadley told Elyse how bad it was, Mal decided to let Ben keep his ignorance.
"Well… we're here," Jay says as he parks the limo in a courtyard on the Isle.
A/N: This one is a bit shorter. I would rather not deal with a super long chapter.
