The year was 261AG, Broadcasts worldwide had started spreading the news, Avatar Korra had died peacefully. Just as Avatar Aang before her, she had left behind a legacy of peace, justice and balance to the world.

However, as the world mourned its loss, a glimmer of hope still lingered. The world knew, the cycle would begin anew, the Avatar would return.

Republic city was now a utopia, or so we were led to believe, the spirit portal that Avatar Korra had opened all those years ago had become the epicenter of a great technological revolution, spirit energy was harnessed and great technological leaps had been made. Houses had unlimited power, vehicles ran clean, medical treatment was free for all, now they had started looking to the stars.

Meanwhile the new Avatar (Avatar Rushe) an earth bender had already completed his training, he had travelled the nations, was a world-famous pro bending champion, a master of all 4 elements and had already started a family of his own in his home city of Ba sing se.

My name is Jayu, I was born into a fire nation colony, just south of the Si Wong Desert, my father was a proud man and a skilled fire bender who had lived most of his life in the firenation army, however he had retired 12 years ago when my younger sistser Ula had been born, my mother was an earth kingdom farmer and a non bender, she had lived outside the colony on small farm south of Bas Sing Se, she had met my farther whilst he was stationed nearby, he had come visiting Bas Sing Se as a guard for a firenation noble diplomat, long story short my father prevented my mother from being mugged by some low life's, they didn't expect a firebender to come to the rescue that's for sure, after my mother fell pregnant they settled in the southern colony.

My older brother Bai was born an Earthbender thanks to my mother's ancestry, my younger sister Ula a Firebender like my father, and I was born a disappointment, a non-bender. My mother would re assure me that there was nothing wrong with being a non-bender, but my brother (and eventually my sister too) would tease and remind me constantly about it. I resented them for it, but I did not hate them, they were my family and even though they teased me daily they would defend me to their last breath if I was ever in any real danger.

In the 12 years my father had retired he had taken a keen interest in Ula, Bai and myself could not firebend and we knew that he had always wanted someone to follow in his footsteps as a proud firenation elite operative. He would train with her every day, showing her new techniques, how to defend herself and how to present herself, I would watch intently, wishing that I could make him as proud as she did, wishing that I wasn't such a disappointment. Bai on the other hand was not so bothered, he would help my mother with the farm, using his earthbending to sow seeds, raise and plant crops, he was the apple of my mother's eye and I knew that even though she loved as all equally Bai was her favorite.

For years now, I had dreamed of being something greater, I would do and give anything to make my parents proud of me, to make them see that I have something to offer, that I have a real purpose, that I am just as good as my brother and sister. I had studied hard at school, I was determined to make something of myself, I wanted to become a student at the university of Ba Sing Se. The exams had been hard and my I had taken my final test three weeks ago, any day now the letter would arrive, I would either be moving out to the City, or I would be stuck here forever.

The day finally came, the letter I had worked so hard for. My parents knew that I had studied hard, but they had no idea that I had applied for the university, I figured it would be a great surprise. However, it was not meant to be, a rejection letter as I feared it would be, Ba Sing Se would only take in those who had been nominated by others in a socially higher class. At least I wouldn't disappoint my parents.

In my eagerness to tear the letter open I had not noticed a second letter, this one had the seal of Republic City.

It was an offer, to join the University of Republic City. This was strange, I had not applied to this as my heart was set on Ba Sing Se, who had sent this? And why were they interested in me?
