"I thought it would be easier to find a place but three weeks in and still haven't found a place to stay. It's either they see me and don't want to rent to a pregnant teen or they are to far from everything. The ones that are close want an arm and a leg. What am I going to do?" Tessa complained to Spike.
"Can Joey rent it for you?"
"We're barely speaking. He got mad that I chose to be his friend after we kissed. It was just a caught in the moment kiss, almost everything was going so well for us." She sighed. "Let's talk about you though, I haven't worked with you since school started. What have you been up to?"
"Soooo...," Spike started trying to get the words out. "I might drop out of college"
"What, Why?"
"My mom's salon is getting really busy, and she wants to train me has her apprentice. It'll be two years and then we can be the mom and daughter hair team. I can even just take basic advertising and marketing class in the mean time." She saw the look Tessa had given her, "I've always really loved doing hair, it's the one thing I know I'm good at."
"Your good at a lot of things."
"You don't get it," Spike tried to explain, "It's something that I love. I want to be able to follow that passion. Have you ever had that feeling?"
Yes, Tessa wanted to answer but she shook her head. Her passion got her pregnant. She knew it wasn't the same thing.
"Your really getting the hang of it Adam." Tessa compliment her tutee. "You might not need my help anymore."
"I need to fail more often then." He said giving her a coy smile.
There was something about Adam that attracted Tessa to him. She knew part of it was the attention; the only guys in her class that gave her attention were only doing it in hope of getting laid. His longing looks and beautiful smile were enough to leave her knees weak. The other part was more obvious, he was really handsome. For the past 3 weeks she had looked forward to their two times a week tutor sessions.
"Don't do that, our hockey team would be really lost without you."
He laughed in agreement before he tried to change the subject, "So is Joey really going with Melanie to the holiday dance?"
Melanie had changed a lot in her last few years of school. She had started to wear more revealing dresses and hanging out with the pot smokers, even losing her virginity to Todd before junior year. In the beginning of senior year she made it her mission to be even more popular by going after two of the most popular guys in school, Adam and Joey.
"It seems that way." Tessa said shrugging off the question pretending it didn't bother her. Melanie even started that rumor of Tessa being a man eater after dumping Yick for Todd last year. It also didn't help that she was still friends with Caitlin.
"Do you have a date to the dance?" He asked inching closer to her, practically breathing in her ear. She can smell the mix of spearmint, vanilla and light aftershave resonating from him. It made her break out in goosebumps.
"No," She felt light headed having him this close. "No one wants to ask the pregnant girl out to the dance." She had been feeling down since she felt like she started to show. She knew that there was a good chance after the new year she would have to finish her classes at home.
"Honestly? I can't even tell." He said eyeing her playfully. In her mind Tessa had gotten fat, in reality Tessa had mainly gained weight in her breast and hips drawing the attention of many of the horny boys in her class. She was far from being unattractive.
Tessa steered the tutoring session back on course. She had lost track of time being with Adam that when Joey interrupted she felt embarrassed.
"Are you ready to go? I have work in a hour and I need to drop you off before I head over. You know I have to work the late shift on the weekends."
"Oh shoot, I'm so sorry Joey. I'll be ready in five. We'll have to pick this up later Adam." She said starting to packing her books.
"I can take her home," Adam offered, "that way you can head home and do whatever you need to do."
Before Tessa could thank him Joey asked to speak to her outside the classroom.
"I don't like him." Joey stated.
"Ok?" Tessa replied back confused. "So just because you don't like someone I'm supposed to avoid them?"
"Tessa, I don't like the way he looks at you. "
"You mean like how you use to look at me while you were with Caitlin? "
Joey took a step back, "You know what," he said trying to control his anger before it got the best of him, "do whatever you want." With that he turned and walked away.
Teasa stayed with Adam until the library closed. What she said to Joey was still playing in her head. She thought she was over their summer issues but she wasn't. Tessa always felt inferior to everyone else in Joey's life.
"Do you want to grab some fries before heading home? I'm kinda hungry." Adam said breaking through her thoughts.
"Sure, I'll just let Mrs. Jeremiah know that I'll be home later then except."
"You can call her from my car, I have a car phone. My dad just got me a new car. I've been dying to show it off."
"May I ask you something?" Adam asked after the fries were delivered to the table, he looked at Tessa for a sign to continue, "what do you see in him?"
Tessa wasn't ever asked this question. All the girls flocked to Joey now, and the guys in school all befriended him. She didn't know what to say.
"I don't know how he ever got not one but two of Degrassi smartest, most beautiful girls to sleep with him. What's worse is he's a liar and a cheater and the school adores him. Joey Jeremiah, what a stud." Adam ranted.
"He's not all that bad." Tessa said defending him. "He can make me laugh."
"Oh wow," Adam mocked, "Tessa why would someone want to have a DeLorean as a second car?"
"Why?" Tessa asked confused.
"Because they could drive it from time to time!" He joked making her chuckle. "I made you laugh, does that mean I get a date?" Before Tessa could protest he answered, "I just think you can do better, someone who is handsome, on the hockey team, who can make you laugh, who's also single and doesn't have a date for the dance."
"Thank you," she blushed. "And if you know anyone who fits that description send them my way. I might even go to the dance with them."
The rest of the night went by really well for Tessa. It felt like a date to her, something she hadn't been on since mid August. Adam convinced her to go see a movie with him. They finally ended heading home a little bit before midnight.
"Seriously let me at least pay you for the movie."
"A gentleman never lets a lady pay." Adam said giving her hand a little kiss. It sent shockwave up her arm. "And I was serious earlier. I would love to take you to the dance."
"It's a date." Tessa agreed.
"No it's not." Adam leaned in close before capturing her lips with his. "Now it's a date." They continued to kiss. Tessa got lost in Adam's lip that she didn't see the car lights behind them.
"Tessa?" She heard behind them. There stood Joey with a mix of disappointment and anger.
