A/N: Hey, guys! In the previous chapter, Little Mac won his first match by defeating Glass Joe. This is only the first step of his career, so let's see what his next opponent will be.
Chapter 3: The German veteran: VS Von Kaiser
The day after his first win, Little Mac looked at the game board and saw that his next opponent was German Von Kaiser, a welterweight weighing 65 kg (144 pounds), 1.83 meters (6 feet) tall, and he was 42 years old. Out of 36 matches, he had won 23, including ten by knockout and lost 13.
''Von Kaiser taught boxing to the kids, but he was hard and was defeated by the kids. This was a trauma for him, and during a match, he almost always covers his face.'' said Doc.
''I feel almost bad for him. Poor guy.'' said Mac, a little sorry for his opponent.
Once in the ring, he saw Von Kaiser. He had brown hair and mustache and looked quite muscular, with an appearance similar to a certain kaiser(1). He was wearing brown pants and boots, suspenders and brown gloves, and he seemed nervous enough. ''Let's end this quickly, okay?'' asked the German.
''Mac, remember to hit him when he drops his guard. Give him a lesson he won't forget!'' Doc advised, and the match began.
(''Ride of the Valkyries- Richard Warner'')
Von Kaiser attacked first with a left jab, but Mac noticed it because he had seen him move his head and blocked it, hitting him four times on the head, then dodged his right uppercut and hit him six more times. The German was clearly stronger than Glass Joe, as he was faster and took less time to attack, but he was fearful and insecure.
''Mami! (Mommy!)'' he whimpered, being hit in the face with a left hook.
''Don't let your guard down, Von Kaiser. You will always pay for any moment of distraction.'' said Mac, who knocked Von Kaiser down with a right uppercut.
The referee started the count. ''1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6! 7-''
Half of the first round had passed, and Von Kaiser got up. ''Beende das! (Let's end this here!)''
''Don't worry, everything will be over soon.'' said Mac, dodging a right uppercut. ''Nein! (No!)'' cried Von, being hit by four more hooks on his stomach.
The young boxer used his Star Punch and hit the opponent in the face. Von Kaiser now had bruises on his belly and a black eye, and after that devastating blow, he spun around and fell supine like a statue.
(''Ride of the Valkyries- Richard Warner-s'')
''Von Kaiser is KO! Victory goes to Little Mac!'' announced the referee.
''Nice work, Mac!'' cried Doc.
Little Mac helped Von Kaiser get up. ''Nothing personal, I'm sorry for ya. I heard about what you went through.'' he said.
''It doesn't matter. In this match you made me open my eyes. You made me realize that I have to face the ghosts of my past and I must not be stopped by this trauma, so, thanks.'' answered Von Kaiser.
The audience started booing at Mac, which the young man didn't understand. ''It seems that the audience does not like me. Is it because I'm what everyone thinks of me?'' he asked, confused.
''It' is a bit strange, actually.'' said Doc.
(''Enemy Battle- The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker OST'')
An apple hit Mac in the face. ''Hey! Who is throwing things at me?!'' he exclaimed, and the audience booed more and began to throw apples, oranges, banana peels and tomatoes on him.
''This is not how an audience should react.'' said Von Kaiser.
''Yeah. If Hoy Quarlow(2) finds out, he won't be happy about it.'' replied Doc.
While the two talked about it, Mac tried fruitlessly to defend himself from objects thrown by the public. ''Why is this happening?'' he asked himself.
(''Enemy Battle- The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker OST-s'')
It took a whole minute for the audience to calm down, and when it was silent again, the boy saw that he was all dirty. On his tanned skin, there were orange spots, his clothes were dirty and his black hair was all disheveled. ''I had just taken a shower!'' he shouted, shocked at being all dirty.
''Come on, Mac. Let's get out of here.'' said Doc, who brought his pupil out of the ring, while Von Kaiser stayed there for a few seconds, then entered his dressing room.
''Just now that I had a shower! Now I also have to dry my clothes. I can't show up in my next match like that, let alone bare-chested.'' Mac murmured.
''What do you mean? That it's embarrassing for you to be shirtless?'' asked Doc jokingly.
''I've always had a certain modesty, and I don't like being half-naked, it's embarrassing.'' replied the boy. ''I still don't understand why the audience booed me and threw stuff at me. If they have done it now, they will react even worse if I win the next match.'' said the young boxer.
''Not everyone appreciates you, Mac. As you beat stronger opponents, you will be respected, but since you are considered a beginner, this will create some controversy. Just think about the next few matches.'' said Doc wisely.
''OK. I will face my next opponent tomorrow.''
A/N: All right. We are halfway in the Minor Circuit. I hope you enjoyed this chapter and see you next time. Hello!
(1): Von Kaiser closely resembles the last German kaiser, Wilheim II, and his good result record is a reference to Germany's military strength, but his weakness may represent how weak the country was after the First World War.
(2): Chinese Hoy Quarlow appeared in Super Punch-Out! for the SNES. With a weight of 45 kg (100 pounds) and an age of 78, he's is a strawweight, making him lighter than Little Mac and the oldest and lightest boxer, but to fight, he uses a wooden staff.
