A/N: Hi, guys! In the previous chapter, Little Mac beat Von Kaiser, but the audience doesn't seem to like him. Who will he face? Let's find out!
Chapter 4: The audience's idol: VS Disco Kid
After spending ten whole minutes in the shower to clean himself up, Little Mac spent a whole day washing his dirty clothes and drying them. The next day, he was still thoughtful about what had happened since his victory against Von Kaiser, and the whistles received by the audience made him perplexed.
''Is something wrong, Mac?'' asked Doc.
''I was thinking about what happened yesterday. Maybe the audience doesn't like me because I'm the underdog.'' Mac replied.
''Maybe. Anyway, it's almost time for your match, kid. Your third opponent is Disco Kid(1).'' said the coach. The boy went up to the ring and saw a young American from Brooklyn, a neighborhood of New York. He was a heavyweight who weighed 95 kg (210 punds), was 20 years old and was 1.90 meters (6 feet and 3 inches) tall. He was tanned, with a big smile on his face, very short blond hair and wore blue gloves, shoes and shorts. In 16 matches, he had only won 4, including 2 by KO, and had lost the other 12.
''Disco Kid, huh? Let's rock!'' exclaimed the younger one, ignoring the public's boos.
''Get ready, Little Mac: the party begins!'' said Disco Kid, and the audience cheered.
''Start!'' announced the referee.
(''Misirlou- Pulp Fiction'')
Disco Kid attacked first with a jab that was blocked, but hit Mac in the face with a powerful left hook. The younger one dodged another jab and hit the opponent with five punches in the face followed by a hook in the stomach, then dodged a left hook and hit seven more times on the face.
''Admire the power of the disco dance!'' exclaimed Disco Kid, who began to spin and launch a series of spinning punches. Mac ducked under two of them and dodged another one, but the last one, a powerful right uppercut, hit him on the chin and almost made him fall, and in addition, the opponent began to move so quickly that he seems to dance on the ring.
''He's really fast!'' thought the boy, who however anticipated his attempt to hit him with a jab with a right hook, knocking him to the mat. The referee started counting.
''1! 2! 3! 4! 5! 6-''
Disco Kid got up and attacked with a left hook, but Mac bent his back backwards, dodging his attack and counterattacking with a powerful right uppercut. (2) He was then hit by a right hook, but he dodged a left jab and hit with seven punches.
''Let's see how you deal with this!'' shouted the older boxer, moving quickly from one side to the other, and hit Mac on the neck with a hook, knocking him to the mat, then he posed and the audience cheered.
''1! 2! 3! 4-''
The boy quickly got up, and there were fifty seconds left in the first round. After blocking a forward, he hit Disco Kid with five punches on the stomach, followed by a jab in the face and a right hook, which was however blocked. The bell rang, as time had run out.
(''Misirlou- Pulp Fiction-s'')
''Mac, Disco Kid is fast. When he tries to surprise you with his speed, keep an eye on him and don't lose sight of him!'' said Doc, who gave Mac a bottle of water.
''Ready... fight!'' announced the referee, and the second round began.
(''Boss Battle- Mega Man 2 OST'')
''I have to admit it, you're not bad, Mac, but do you think you can keep up with me?'' asked Disco Kid.
''We'll see about that!'' Mac replied, dodging a left hook and hitting him seven times. Disco Kid tried to confuse him by moving quickly, but the boy kept an eye on him and hit him with a Star Punch in the face, making him spin and sending him against the corners of the ring.
''Ouch...'' murmured Disco Kid, who fell to the ground in a prone position. He tried to get up, but without success, and the ten second limit had expired.
('' Boss Battle- Mega Man 2 OST-s'')
''Disco Kid is KO! Little Mac wins!'' announced the referee. The audience started booing at Mac just as he helped Disco Kid get up.
''I admit, you're pretty good.'' said Disco Kid.
''Thanks, you too. You were a good challenge.'' Mac replied, before someone from the audience threw him a tomato in the eye. The audience, unhappy with Disco Kid's defeat, threw lots of fruits and tomatoes on the boy, and it was even worse than yesterday, even throwing coconuts on his head.
''I swear I'll tell Hoy Quarlow.'' murmured Doc.
''I agree. I know the audience loves me, but that's not what I want.'' said Disco Kid.
The referee found himself forced to resolve the matter himself. ''SILENCE!'' he thundered, and the audience went silent.
''This is so embarrassing... I hope my parents didn't saw that.'' murmured a saddened Mac, realizing he was even dirtier than yesterday. Because of the coconuts on his head, he also felt so groggy that he almost fell to the ground.
''Come on, kid. Let's go.'' said Doc, taking him to the locker room.
''Dammit! It took me all day yesterday to dry these clothes, and the audience humiliated me again! If my parents saw this scene, they would freak out!'' Mac exclaimed, irritated by having to wash again.
''I''ll tell Hoy Quarlow everything. In your next match, you will have to face the Minor Circuit Champion, so the audience should be more respectful if you win.'' said Doc, who left the room, and Mac was forced to take a long shower again to get the terrible stink off his skin.
Fifteen minutes later, Doc returned. ''Hoy Quarlow was really angry when I told him everything. He realized that you have the potential to become a great boxer, and the fact that the public humiliated you just because you're the underdog is a total lack of respect.'' he said.
''It's true. All of this is intolerable. Even Disco Kid was disgusted by it.'' Mac replied.
''In two days, there will be the match for the title of Champion of the Minor Circuit. Rest and then train tomorrow, okay?''
''All right. In the next matches I will show that I am not one to be taken lightly.''
''That's is the spirit, kid!''
A/N: Another win for Mac, another disrespect from fans. Anyway, the next opponent is the Minor Circuit Champion! See ya!
(1): Some features of Disco Kid are quite similar to Kid Quick from Super Punch Out for the SNES.
(2): This move is based on Little Mac's down special attack in the Super Smash Bros. series, the Slip Counter.
