It Happened One Night
90% of the time, Miranda wanted to cut. Anytime she was about to enter a surgery, no matter how big or small, she felt butterflies. Butterflies. They were in her stomach. These butterflies were different from the ones that she felt around guys she liked or had crushes on. She knew that the butterflies were from excitement. Surgery exhilarated her, it gave her a rush. "You're ready?" Meredith asked her picking up the chart for Mrs. Johnson.
"Yeah. I am. I'll see you up there." Meredith nodded and walked away.
Before she went up to the operating room, Miranda went by the daycare. She looked through the door and spotted her son. He was sitting on a beanbag in the corner reading a book. Watching him put a smile on her face. Miranda moved out of the way of a parent wanting to see their child. As she headed to the operating room, she pulled her hair into a semi-tight ponytail. Meredith was in the operating room talking to a scrub nurse and someone she assumed was the anesthesiologist or another assisting attending. Miranda started to scrub in as Mrs. Johnson was being put under the anesthetics. She scrubbed and took her time making sure there would be no chance of infections or transference of germs from her hands. Before she opened the door to the operating room, she prayed to God asking that He would give her the will, knowledge and skill to perform greatly. "Dr. Grey, are you ready?"
"Yes, Dr. Bailey. I am," Meredith said nodding.
"Okay, well, scalpel," Miranda began and she started to cut. As she and Meredith worked, Miranda looked up and glanced around the room. She looked at the monitor and checked the stats. Then, she looked down and looked at the doctor working on a newspaper right below the machine. "Dr. Warren, is that you?" Miranda's heart raced. The guy didn't look up. Shoot! And she was embarrassed. Miranda, she thought to herself, every anesthesiologist couldn't be Ben.
"I was wondering when you'd notice me," Ben said looking up finally. She watched as his eyes got thinner that signaled that he was smiling. Miranda put her head down to look at the open body of Mrs. Johnson and smiled. Meredith was looking at her. "How have you been, Dr. Bailey?"
"I've been good. Working and cutting like surgeons do." She smiled beneath her mask.
"Funny. How's LT?" He asked putting his crossword puzzle on the stool in front of him.
"He's good. I just saw him. Reading."
Ben looked at Miranda and replied: "What a nerd." The room filled with laughter.
"Dr. Bailey, does that look like a tumor?" Meredith said seriously. Miranda looked down and felt the mass that Meredith was talking about. She cursed underneath her breath.
The surgery was over. Thank God it was over and Mrs. Johnson was being moved to recovery. Meredith had already left the scrub room and gone up to talk to Mr. Johnson. Miranda continued to wash her hands. This was her favorite part. It was so quiet in the room, only the water ran hitting the sink. She looked into the operating room and watched as Ben walked back in. He sat down on his stool and started to write on a chart. Finishing up and drying her hands, she watched him work. He was diligent and never looked up. She knocked on the glass and his head popped up. His facemask was off and he smiled and motioned for her to come inside of the room. She put the towel that she was using to dry her hands in the bin and walked into the operating room.
"Before you ask, no, I didn't put myself in this surgery with you," Ben commented reading her mind. "But I definitely enjoyed myself. You did well." Miranda was quiet and she found herself looking everywhere except into Ben's eyes. "We make a great team." He stared at her and waited for her to speak. She didn't because she didn't want her voice to betray her, but she couldn't not say anything.
"Um, y-yeah, seeing as how I did all of the work and all you did was work on your puzzle," Miranda said. She regretted it as soon as she said it and hoped that he wouldn't take offense. He started to laugh and she let out a sigh of relief.
"Don't be mad because I choose a profession where I get to sit on my butt, make more money and I make less mistakes," Ben said as he finished up his chart. "And I actually don't like the sitting down part of my job. It's not great for the back. You know. And I like to keep in shape so I can lift my big buckets of money." Miranda smiled and shook her head. They continued to talk and joke with each other. She felt comfortable and was surprised with how easily they communicated. When the cleanup crew came in to sterilize the room, she was invisibly upset that they had interrupted the conversation that she was sharing with Ben.
Ben and Miranda walked out of the operating room. She told him that she was headed to the Attending locker room and he said that he was headed that way, too, but he had to put Mrs. Johnson's chart back and get something from someone nearby. She replied that she wouldn't mind going with him because she wanted to see how Mrs. Johnson was and needed to answer any questions. While they walked, they didn't talk to each other. They just greeted other doctors and nurses that they passed. After seeing Mrs. Johnson, Miranda waited for Ben at the Nurses' station. A nurse spoke to her: "Dr. Bailey, are you looking for Nurse Eli?" The nurse was one of her favorite nurses. Her name was Jessica Bokhee, but everyone just called her Bokhee. They were pretty close inside of the hospital and like every other nurse, Bokhee knew that Miranda was dating Eli. Miranda looked confused and her eyes reflected her confusion. Bokhee subtly gestured behind her. Miranda took a step to the left and saw that Eli was sitting behind Bokhee's short and thin frame.
"Yes, of course. Bokhee, do you know where he is?" Miranda asked firmly.
"He was around here somewhere," Bokhee said going along with the pretend search for Eli. She turned around. "Oh, silly me, he's right here behind me." Bokhee pushed fallen hair out of her eyes. "Eli, I think your lady is looking for you."
"Thank you, Jessica," Eli said standing up. Bokhee blushed and sat down at an empty computer and started to work. "Hello, Dr. Bailey." It was Miranda's turn to blush. Eli leaned on the desk and kissed her quickly.
"Hello, Nurse Eli," Miranda said putting her hands into her pants pockets. He looked really good leaning towards her and she had to remind herself that they were in public and she couldn't rip his clothes off just then. She winked at him and he smiled. She hadn't seen him in a couple of days and realized that she did miss him in her life.
"Dr. Bailey, sorry, I took so long," Ben said walking up to her and touching her elbow slightly. He didn't see Eli at first. "Oh, my bad. Hello, Nurse Eli." His voice tried to sound warm, but Miranda sensed a lot behind it.
"Hello," Eli retorted just as coldly.
Miranda didn't know what the hell to do. If she was confused before she was hella perplexed now. This wasn't her worst nightmare, but damn if it didn't come close. She needed an out. And she didn't need Eli to open his mouth and she definitely didn't need Ben to open his. If only she could stop time like and rewind the moment just like in a music video she'd seen years ago. She just wanted to step out of this situation and go back. Both men were looking at her and she was looking for something or someone to intervene. Anyone! "Dr. Bailey!" An intern was jogging towards her. Bless him. She'd have to actually learn his name now. "You gave this to me, but didn't tell me what it was for."
She looked at his jacket. "Thank you, Campfield. I wondered where you'd gotten to with that stuff." She took the items; then changed her mind. "Actually, I'm on my way home. So, you can put that back in the supplies closet."
"Oh, you're going home?" Eli asked.
"Yeah, I am," Miranda said.
"Shoot, I just came in," he responded.
"Ahh, I figured. Well, when you get off, you can give me a call," Miranda said. "I'll text you when I get home."
Ben was still standing there and Miranda felt bad that he was not in on the conversation. But, she didn't feel bad for long. "Are you still going to the locker room, Miranda?" Ben said smirking. He looked at Eli and the smirk disappeared.
"Do you have a problem, Dr. Warren?" Eli asked standing straight up. Miranda smiled inside of herself that she was finally able to compare them both, physically. Eli was a little taller than Ben, but to Miranda who was inches shorter than them both, it didn't too much matter. Ben was darker. Eli's face was classically attractive. Muscularly, they were about the same, both strong men who obviously worked out several times a week. Basically, they were both sexy, but it wasn't just about looks. They each bought something different to the table. Finally, it clicked.
"No, we don't have a problem, Nurse Eli. Dr. Bailey, I'll catch you later, okay?" Ben said and Miranda watched as he walked away and caught up with Dr. Pierce, the cardiologist. She felt a pang of jealousy.
Eli came from behind the desk and he kissed her cheek again. "That guy is such a jerk."
"I don't think he's a jerk, but I do know that there was a lot of tension just now." Miranda looked into his eyes.
He walked behind her and leaned down to whisper in her ear: "On-call room. Now. I'll meet you there in four minutes." Her body shivered and the hairs on her arm stood up. As much as she liked to be in charge, there was something about being somewhat sexually submissive that turned her on. She looked over at Bokhee, who had her eyebrow raised, before she started in the direction of their favorite on-call room. She took the long way. When she got there, she was relieved to find that it was empty. She didn't bother flicking on the light, but she sat on the bottom bunk of the bunked beds that were in nearly every on-call room. Someone knocked on the door and Miranda got up and saw Eli at the door. He started kissing her before he even got through the door and Miranda closed and locked the door behind him. Swiftly, he lifted up her shirt and pulled it off. Then, he did the same to his, throwing it in the corner. "I want you," he said in a hoarse voice. He kissed her again, passionately. His arms wrapped around her body and the heat from their bodies made her hot. She pulled at the band of his pants and they dropped. He pushed down his boxers. His organ sprung from his clothes and Miranda moaned. Eli helped Miranda pull down her scrub pants and then he picked her up and put her on top of the dresser. He was completely naked except for his black A-shirt. Miranda pants were around her ankles and she was really feeling this. The cold dresser wasn't bothering her at all. She grabbed his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. He went to the other dresser and to get something and Miranda admired his ass from afar. He pulled out a condom and put it on. When they'd finished on the dresser, they'd moved to the bed for round two. Miranda melted into Eli's body as he made love to her, going as deep as he could and as deep as her body would allow. Together they moaned and groaned as quietly as they could. When they were finished, Eli collapsed on top of her, his breaths fast. "Damn, Miranda. That felt good. I- I- I love you."
Miranda took a deep breath. "I love you, too, Eli. God! That felt good." Eli rolled off of her and behind her. They snuggled together and Eli started to snore lightly. Miranda looked at her watch and saw that it was about six o'clock. She couldn't lie there all night, not while Tuck was in the daycare and there was plenty of time for them to spend together before the night was completely over. She gently threw her body into Eli's one time before she got out of bed and started to get dressed. Fully dressed, she leaned over and kissed his head.
"You're leaving me?" Eli asked stirring and smiling sexily.
Miranda smiled at the man in the bed. "I'm going to get Tuck."
"Do I have to worry about him?" He propped up his head on his hand.
"Tuck? No, he's fine. I saw him before I went into surgery. He was reading," Miranda replied and she unwillingly remembered Ben's comment. She smiled once more.
"That's good. Studious. And I'm not talking about Tuck," Eli said.
"Then who are you talking about, Eli?" Miranda asked reaching for her phone and pager which were on the floor.
"Ben Warren," he said as he got out of the bed and walked, nakedly, to his clothes on the opposite side of the room.
"What are you talking about? Did I just make love to him? Do I love him? No, I'm pretty sure that was just us in those sheets," Miranda walked to Eli. "And I love you. I don't love him."
"But you could," Eli said his face unchanging. He looked angry.
"I've never lied to you. Of course, there's a chance, but that doesn't have to change how I feel about you."
"I don't even know what to say," he said while fixing the strings on his pants.
Miranda grabbed his hands. "Look at me, Eli. I think what you're feeling is, is jealousy. And there's no need for it. I'm with you. You're my man." She put her arms around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss. "Do you believe me? Eli, you believe me, don't you?" She kissed him again. Eli just nodded. That worried her a little, but she bypassed it.
"I'll see you later, Miranda." He said it with so much… what was the word she was looking for? Sincerity. He leaned down to kiss her one more time. Then, he walked out of the room. A few minutes later, she did the same thing.
After she tucked her son into bed, Miranda sauntered into her bedroom. She turned on her TV and started to catch on the shows that she missed while she was working and taking care of her son. Her phone rang. "Hey, Miranda. It's Eli, I'm outside. Can I come in for a bit?"
"Sure, Eli. I'm coming to the door now," Miranda said with her heart pounding. Pounding. Her heart was jumping out of her chest. Miranda put on her robe and walked to door. She knew that he would be, but she hoped that Eli was no longer upset about Ben. She opened the door and he walked through. He fit perfectly within the frame of the door. He kissed her cheek. "Hey, babe, how was your shift?"
"It was good. Do you have any more wine?" He asked hurriedly and he walked into the kitchen. She followed him. Eli pulled down two glasses and opened a bottle; coincidentally, or not, it was one he'd given her for their three-month anniversary. They were the only ones to drink it. "Do you want a glass?"
"Yes… please." Miranda took the glass.
"I think we should sit," Eli said after taking a sip.
"Eli, I-I don't want to sit."
"Miranda. Miranda, please, baby, just sit," Eli said slowly and he pulled a chair from the kitchen table.
Reluctantly, Miranda sat down and Eli sat down as well. "What's this all about?" She asked the question, but she already knew the answer.
"Look, I'm a nurse. I can sense pain and discomfort. And I'm trained… trained to know when differences happen and I'm trained to detect and fix problems while caring for people. I care for you so much, Miranda. So much. And Tuck. I love Little Tuck. I think he's… perfect. He's well-mannered and smart and a great kid. And you. Well, I love you. You make me happy and I think, well, I used to think I made you happy and that it was enough and we were happy. Now, I'm not sure. This is not me breaking up with you, Miranda Bailey." Miranda looked at him and watched him take another sip of wine before going on. "I'm just telling you that I want to continue this relationship. Earlier, you asked me to believe you there was no need to be jealous of Ben, that you loved me and wanted to be with me. And I want to be with you, too. And I would definitely believe you except I have this nagging feeling that you'll dump me… for him." Miranda started to speak, but Eli held his hand up. "And I'd rather you do it now before we get further in our relationship and you can't figure out a way to break up with me." Eli was done, for the meantime and it was Miranda's turn.
"Eli. I'm sorry, if all of this has caused you pain. I didn't mean any of it. And while we're being honest… I do love you. I love you so much. I love how you are with my son and how you take care of me and how you're always there. Honestly, I don't know how I feel about Ben. I do know that we're becoming friends. And with the history between you two, it's hard to be friends with him while loving you. There's too much tension. Ben and I could never really be friends while I'm with you and we, you and I, can never have a full relationship if my friends aren't a part of my life. I can't choose you over him or vice versa and, uh, I'm answering your question, aren't I?" Eli was nodding and standing up. Miranda grabbed his arm and pulled him back into his seat "Wait, no, please… don't go. We can work this out."
Eli moved his chair closer to hers and moved towards her, before their lips connected, he paused. Eli closed his eyes and kissed her. A kiss so passionate that she felt it everywhere. "Goodbye, Miranda. I'll see you around." Eli got up and walked towards the door.
"I'm sorry. I… I still love you," she said. He stopped walking.
"I know," he replied without turning around. And just like that, he was gone.
"DAMN IT!" Miranda screamed after she heard the door closed. Hot tears flowed down her face as she listened to Eli's truck rev up and pull out of her driveway. "Shit!" She finished her wine and rushed to her room. She picked up her cell phone and punched in all ten of Callie's number. Usually she would look on her "Favorites" list, but fiercely dialing the number gave her a small twinge of relief.
"Hey, Mandy!" Callie said cheerfully. Miranda didn't speak. "Mandy, are you there?" Miranda could only nod. "Miranda, are you okay?" Miranda could hear the concern in her friend's voice. So, she made a noise that she hoped would tell Callie that she was fine, just utterly heartbroken and feeling stupid. "I'm coming over. I'll be there in 20 minutes." Miranda nodded again and the call was disconnected. Miranda took her phone and went back to the kitchen and pulled out three bottles of wine. Eli's glass was still on the table. She picked it up and traced around the rim of the glass, she put it to her lips and finished the last of the wine that was left in the glass. Then, she took it to the sink and washed the dish. She put it back in the cabinet. Miranda went to Tuck's bedroom and checked on him. He was sleeping so peacefully. She wondered how he would take Eli being gone from their life. She didn't want Tuck, at seven, to have to avoid Eli if they ever saw each other in the halls of the hospital. This was precisely the reason why she didn't want to date in first place. She didn't want her son getting used to new guys only to have them leave. It was fortunate for her that the first guy she dated after leaving her husband turned out to be in their lives for seven months. She slowly opened the door to Tuck's room and started to straighten up a bit. When she got tipsy, she started to clean. There was a knock on door and Miranda left Tuck's room and let Callie in. Well, Callie and Sofia. Callie was carrying Sofia, her two-year old daughter. Her father was Mark Sloan. Sofia was asleep and Miranda gestured for Callie to lay Sofia down on her bed. Callie took her to the room. While she did that, Miranda grabbed her wine glass, an extra one for Callie and two bottles of wine, including the wine Eli had given her. When she came back, she sighed and checked her watch. "Okay, so it's about 11 o'clock. I'm assuming my godson is asleep?" Miranda nodded again. She had long stopped crying, but looking into the worried eyes of her best friend sent her back down that road. "Oh, honey," Callie said rubbing Miranda's back. They were seated on a sofa in the living room. "Okay, so start from when I left you in the lounge after Arizona and April left."
Finally Miranda was able to speak. "So, I walked out of the lounge…" Callie listened intently and only interrupted to ask Miranda to repeat details. "And just like that, he was gone. Just gone," Miranda finishing her story. And Callie was quiet. "And it's only been about an hour, if that, but it feels like it's been weeks, months even."
"So, I can offer you the stock best friend response, a commentary, I can give you some real friendly advice, defend Eli, be completely on your side or tell you exactly what you need to hear," Callie said taking a sip of wine.
"I have to pick just one?" Miranda asked getting up from the sofa and grabbing some chips and dip. "I'm kinda leaning towards you telling me exactly what I need to hear. I need to hear the truth from someone other than Eli."
"Shit, girl, I can give you all of them."
"Yes, then I'll take all for 200, Alex," Miranda said smiling for the first time since Eli had dumped her. Or had she, by default, dumped him? That's not the point. They were broken up and would probably never get back together.
Callie smiled, too. "Alright! You asked for it," she said clapping her hands together, startling Miranda who jumped. "My bad. So, stock best friend response: There are plenty of fish in the sea, no need to be trippin' over a guppy. Let's drink!" Callie said finishing her glass and gesturing for Miranda to do the same. "Commentary time. You already know what I'm going to comment on."
"The on-call room?" Miranda asked pouring more wine and eating more chips.
"Yes, girl! That sounds so hot, makes me miss my wife."
"Where is your wife?"
"At home, she has a big surgery tomorrow, so I let her sleep. So back to the on-call room. Mmm, I think as surgeons, sex in the hospital is the best kind of sex."
Miranda shook her head, "I like being at home."
"Yeah, me, too. Next one?" Callie asked.
"Lay it on me."
"Uhh, friendly advice. You guys were good together, but sometimes good isn't enough. I would say more now, but it clashes with what you need to hear."
"We were good together. I really liked him and loved him."
"I know, honey. I know you did."
"Next one?"
Callie stood up for this one. "Poor Eli. Everything was going fine until you saw Ben in the locker room. And then everything was still fine. It really got messed up when you two spent all day together. And instead of telling Eli, you kept him in the dark about your feelings." Miranda had her eyes closed and was nodding. "On the other hand, you really believed that it was just a harmless crush and not something that could damage your relationship with Eli. Maybe you didn't know that you really liked Ben and it wasn't until Eli mentioned it that you realized…" Callie's words trailed off and she sat down and stared at her best friend. It was getting real now. They didn't drink any wine now. "Except that you knew, Miranda. And it was it was shocking to feel something for someone after being with Eli for seven months, but you kept pushing it down, lying to Eli and yourself and to Ben as well. Now, you and Eli are over and you have to deal with that, but there's a bright side. You have a bright side and believe me, everyone doesn't get a bright side. There's Ben." Callie inhaled and exhaled.
A tear fell down Miranda's face and she nodded. Everything Callie had said was right. Right. Had she done the right thing by letting Eli go? Did she not put up a fight? Was her friendship with Ben so important that she was willing to lose a man who loved and cared for her? She honestly didn't know. And what in extra hell made her think that Ben didn't already have a girlfriend? She saw him walking off with Maggie, the cardiologist. For all she really knew, they could have been dating and Ben just liked to flirt and maybe Ben was looking for something extra. She would NOT be someone's something extra. Why had that never occurred to her? She expressed all of this to Callie who listened intently. She had to talk to Ben, she thought.
"I think you should talk to Ben," Callie said at the same time.
"And say what?"
"I don't know. That you like him. Obviously he likes you."
Miranda responded quickly: "You only think that because I do and because he asked you about me."
"Yeah, well. That's enough for me. And clearly enough for you," Callie said putting her feet up.
Miranda mimicked Callie's movements and put her feet up as well. "I'm glad I don't have to work tomorrow."
"Shoot, me either. Because you're definitely trying to get me drunk."
"That's all your own doing," Miranda said reaching over and getting some potato chips. When she looked up, she jumped. Tuck was standing under the arch of the living room. "Tuck? Is everything all right?"
"Yes. I went to your room and saw Sofia, so I came out here."
"Is everything okay?" He asked and she waved him over. "Hi, Aunt Callie."
"Hey, baby. Did you have a bad dream?" Callie asked picking up her glass.
"No, just thirsty."
"Oh. Okay, Vell, go into the kitchen and get a juice and head back to bed," Miranda said as she hugged him and he went over to Callie and hugged her as well. Tuck turned around and did as he was told.
"Vell?" Callie said when he was out of earshot.
"I'm beyond tipsy, but not yet a drunk," Miranda said giving her "the hand". The two of them started laughing uncontrollably. Callie got up laughing and checked on Sofia. Then they put on a movie. They were quiet for a long time and soon Miranda felt herself going to sleep.
When she woke up, it was morning and she was still asleep on the sofa. She remembered the details of the night. The night. Miranda said a prayer that maybe it'd been a dream and that she and Eli really weren't over. But, she knew that it wasn't. Shit, Miranda needed to call him. Obviously, it had all been a mistake. She didn't mean to make it seem like Ben meant more to her than Eli did. What the hell had she been thinking? She really needed to speak to him. She wanted him. She wanted to talk to him and hold him and have him hold her. She was missing him already. She reached for her phone and started putting in his number. Before she hit the "call" button, Miranda heard a noise outside. She put down her phone and ran to the window. She didn't see anyone or anything that looked weird. Sitting back on the sofa, she saw the phone with Eli's number still on it. She erased it. She'd give him some time to think and wait for him to come to his senses.
Miranda looked around and saw that Callie's shoes weren't there and that Callie was no longer on the other sofa, where'd she been when Miranda had woken up in the night. Miranda figured that she'd taken Sofia and gone home. But one peek into her bedroom showed two lumps in the bed, one big, one small. Miranda checked on Tuck who was already awake. She was glad that his body was starting to get ready for school because the break was almost over. Miranda didn't have to work today. She didn't usually get two days off in such a short time span, but with Tuck out of school, she wanted to spend extra time with him. First, she'd have to break the news of Eli. And how was she supposed to do that? She wasn't one for really beating around the bush, so she'd just come out and say it. "Good morning, William," she said sitting at the foot of his bed. He was playing with Nintendo DS.
"Morning, mommy," he said without looking up. She quickly pressed the "pause" button, something that she wished life had sometimes. "Mommy!"
"I want to talk to you. I need to tell you something." Tuck didn't speak. He lowered the game and closed the screen. "So, I'm off today and as usual, it's whatever you want to do."
"I know you're off today, it's on the calendar," Tuck said excitedly. Miranda smiled. He was so much a part of her that his happiness made her happiness even after the hellish night she'd just had. "Can we go to the park? And then to the zoo? Please?" He asked folding his hands together and shaking them in her face.
"Of course. Of course." Miranda grabbed his hands and noticed that he needed to clean under his finger nails.
"Yes!" He exclaimed.
She almost hated to break the news about her and Eli. "So, um, I want to talk to you about Eli." Miranda took a deep breath. "We are… no longer seeing each other. We broke up. He won't be coming around anymore." Tuck didn't speak and his facial expression didn't change. "Are you okay, Tuck?"
"Yes. Is that all?" He asked. "I don't know if I even liked Eli."
She started laughing at him. "What?"
Tuck laughed as well. "He was okay, but I don't like him like I like...," Tuck stopped talking.
"Like you like who?" Miranda asked.
"Nobody. Are they coming with us?"
"Who? Miranda asked hoping that he would slip up and say who he liked better than Eli.
"Aunt Callie and Sofia."
"I don't know. Aunt Callie does have the day off, but they might want to do their own thing." Miranda checked the alarm clock on his nightstand. It was about 10 o'clock in the morning. "And maybe you should start getting dress so we can head out. Also, I think we should go to the zoo first."
Tuck shook his head. "I think we should go to the park first," he countered as he threw back the covers and got out of bed. Miranda nodded and watched him glide into the bathroom. She left his room and walked to hers. "Calliope Torres," she said in a hushed tone so that Sofia wouldn't wake up. Miranda asked Callie about going to the park with them. Callie declined the offer, but said that she'd meet up with them at the zoo. Sofia and Callie were gone before Tuck came out of the bathroom. Miranda hopped in the shower and when they'd both had a Pop-Tart and a glass of juice, she and Tuck headed back to the park. The entire drive there, Tuck hoped out loud that Ben and Jazmin were there. He also wanted Alex to be there. But, Miranda knew that Alex was probably participating in the same surgery that Arizona was, so he probably wouldn't be there. She prayed inside that Ben wouldn't be there. She didn't mind Jazmin, obviously, she actually wanted to talk to her, but Miranda didn't want the girl's uncle anywhere in the vicinity.
