Chapter 2
I wake up sandwiched between two crisp white sheets and the sterile scent of disinfectant. Clearly I haven't moved in a while, or there would still be people monitoring me but this is perfect.
I know I should wait till someone comes to check on me but I have to find Uriah. I need to know this isn't just some messed up dream or simulation created by the Erudite to break me.
I dress in the clothes on the side. I feel more comfortable in my clothes from Dauntless than in the papery hospital gown. I wonder who brought them but I feel immense gratitude towards them.
My bare feet slap against the shiny tile as I search for Uriahs room until I spot an equally bewildered figure at the end of the corridor.
"Uriah?" I ask and he whips around before smiling weakly and rushing towards me. He slips and slams into me, causing us to fall onto the ground in a hysterical mess of tears and laughter.
"Oh god Tris. I thought I was in another simulation caused by that female Hitler. I'm so glad it wasn't just me. I don't say it enough you know but I love you." He says and I smile, the onlookers hurriedly pressing the hospital help call button.
"I love you too Uri." I say and I mean it. Uriah is the best friend anyone could hope for and his smile can light up a whole room. "Now come on! Let's go find the others!"
I grab his hand and we pull each other down various pathways, dodging concerned staff members and patients alike but no one tries to intervene. Until we reach the door.
"Miss Prior, Mr Pedrad. You can not proceed any further." The man's pronounces. He's wearing a smart looking suit and shiny shoes. He speaks in a posh accent and I know he's not from around here.
"Oh shut up you pompous old git. We have business to attend to!" Uriah rolls his eyes, imitating him.
Then without warning he swings his fist into the man's temple, watching him crumple to the floor.
He blows on his hand. "Still got it!" I laugh and he opens the door bowing.
We wander further and i regret not wearing those stupid pink flats. The stones press into the sensitive skin on the soles of my feet and i wince. He turns around and i jump on his back gratefully.
We then see a huddle of hunched shadows sat on stone pillars. I take in their solemn faces and i slowly match them to people in my head. Zeke, Shauna, Hana and Christina. Then I see him. Tobias. I jump down and we break into a sprint with one sole focus. To get them and never let them go.
The look up and their jaws drop down to their feet. Uriah reaches them first, breaking down in their trembling arms and i will myself to move faster and launch myself into his waiting arms as he spins me around in circles. I can't hold it in any longer as I sob into his shaking shoulders and he buries his face in my hair.
"I thought I lost you." He murmurs and I kiss him forcefully. A fast, desperate, burning kiss. Sparks fly every time he touches me and I melt into his being.
